We usually do the Catskills or Berkshires for our anniversary and our go to rental was booked. So we opted to try something new. We mainly chose here cause its technically a Marriott now. I travel for work and trust the brand We booked, prepaid, arrived to the location. Grounds are beautiful and there is some signage, so it was easy to find however the most important sign is missing (Registration:Office:Check in) anything, it's technically not a front of a building, there's no main entrance so some signage would be amazing. (If you are reading this before staying there. Park in the handicap spots and go to the left, there's a ramp (no sign) that goes to the front desk. We were greeted upon check in, got a small upgrade for being a bonvoy member. Also got some drink chips and a resort credit. All super appreciate, especially as this is a pricier place to stay.. This is an older place, (1966) with some enhancements. The room we stayed in was a king bungalow. It was clean, spacious, had a nice sitting area and a little balcony! It fits the vibe here Love the water stations, sparkling or still. Right near our room!! (Need ice machine or ability to get ice, I asked multiple people for ice) Room needs a fridge or microwave, but other than that it's checked off the boxes. We did dinner at Prospect in the hotel- left a separate review but we will not be back there. Overall missed the mark especially for the price. Highly recommend staying, but ensure you go explore some of the towns nearby! read more

I booked a one-night staycation during spring break while we explored the Catskills area. The property is beautiful and inviting. The communal lodge area is especially welcoming, featuring a cozy fireplace, billiards, board games, and multiple seating options. Amenities include a sauna and a pool, both of which were not in service at the time. The ice rink was available, and we did enjoy the s'mores on the west deck in the evening. Our room was simple but very cozy, with mountain views and a balcony. However, the room did not have a fridge or microwave. I also appreciated that the hotel is dog-friendly and offers a Pupstar package. There is a restaurant and bar on site, but prices were high. Dining options in the area were limited during the off-season weekdays, which made this a bit challenging for us. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the amenities we were able to experience. Carlos at the front desk provided outstanding customer service every interaction and was extremely helpful. Even though a few things were unavailable, the property itself is lovely, and we would consider returning when all amenities are open and the local area is more lively. read more

If you're searching for the ultimate mountain getaway, look no further than Scribner's Catskill Lodge! My husband and I have stayed here twice in the past five months, and it's easily my absolute favorite spot in the area. One of the best features: it's located right across the street from Hunter Mountain, making it a perfect option for any skiers hoping for convenient and comfortable lodging. The lodge's common area is warm and inviting, centered around a large fireplace. Whether you're relaxing with a drink from the downstairs bar, enjoying a pool game, or sitting at the bigger tables for some takeout or board games with friends, the atmosphere is always lively and fun. Downstairs, the Prospect restaurant is top-notch. We've enjoyed both breakfast and dinner there, and honestly, everything on the breakfast menu is fantastic. If you want excitement, comfort, and amazing food on your mountain escape, Scribner's Catskill Lodge is the place to be! read more

We stayed at Scribner's Lodge for a weekend getaway from 1/30-2/1 and overall had a really good experience. The lodge itself is beautiful, cozy, and thoughtfully designed--perfect for a winter escape. The receptionist and staff were incredibly kind, warm, and helpful whenever we needed anything, which truly stood out. One of the highlights was starting the morning with a yoga class and then heading to the sauna afterward. A quick expectation-set for future guests: the sauna is small and comfortably fits about 4 small/medium people or 2 larger individuals. It's decent but not extremely hot. The morning view is lovely, but the evening has no view, so it's best to book earlier appointments before slots fill up. We had dinner at the on-site restaurant, Prospect, which was a solid option given the limited nearby dining. The appetizers were excellent and generously portioned for four people--we ordered the beet salad, winter salad, and bread and butter (which came with three different butters and was delicious). The entrees were good overall (Cornish hen, duck, and market fish), though the steak was priced at NYC levels ($79 for an 8oz), which felt a bit steep. It was my friend's birthday, and the restaurant surprised us with a complimentary dessert, which was a very thoughtful touch. The lodge offers great amenities--sauna, pool (we didn't try due to winter), games, communal spaces with fireplaces, and s'mores. We especially enjoyed the outdoor s'mores and campfire, which added to the cozy vibe. The reason for the 4-star rating is an unfortunate experience with a next-door neighbor who repeatedly complained about noise, even though our group of four was speaking at a normal, low volume and spending limited time in the room. There were even instances of wall-knocking as early as 8:30pm while we were quietly relaxing. The front desk was understanding and genuinely tried to help, but with thin walls, there was only so much the hotel could do. While we don't feel we did anything unreasonable, the situation created unnecessary stress during what was meant to be a relaxing girls' weekend. To be clear, the hotel and staff handled this as best as they could--but if not for this experience, we would have easily given 5 stars. Overall, Scribner's Lodge is a lovely property with great service and amenities; just be mindful that thin walls and overly sensitive neighbors can impact the stay. read more

absolutely HORRIBLE - this place is an absolute disgrace. my wife and I came here on a mini moon the week after our wedding because we could bring our dog. we showed up and immediately couldn't find the front and then when we did there were Hershey's chocolate bars all over the front area. We chexked in and went back outside and the chocolate was still there so I asked politely again. Then the third time I walked out and the chocolate was still directly in front of the main door so I complained and was rude. I called 3 days before we showed up and asked if I would have a problem with our furbo (doggy camera) and they assured me there would not be any problems. of course the WiFi at the hotel was public so the doggy camera didn't work- as well they didn't have a fridge in the room so we had to go pick up more dog food since we had to leave it out. They also assured us that the smore time Started at 630pm and we went out there at 715 and we had to remind the front desk to start the fire for the s'mores . This is a very expensive hotel and it's absoltely HORRENDOUS!! even after the third time I asked about the chocolate they were so rude. I would highly recommend anywhere else but here. theyre very unhelpful and straight up rude. We came to celebrate our wedding which was last weekend (Oct 9) and it was the worst mini moon of all time. These people are horrible !!! read more

The most charming and cozy Catskills getaway. All the employees and guests were so warm and welcoming. Had so much fun at their New Year's Eve party. The mango mezcal drink I had (the Mucho Mango) was amazing. The views of the mountains are beautiful. Very well heated indoors and outdoors by the fire. Beautifully maintained hotel. Can't wait to take a properly long vacation here. Vibes were so good. read more

I could easily say that I would stay at Scribner's Lodge again. The rooms have what you need (stellar mattress and an amazing shower) and the amenities make it a very enjoyable stay. Everyone from the front desk to the cleaning staff was so friendly. We checked in very easily. I would suggest bringing your dog as you get a pupster package that includes all the essentials: treats, bags, a toy, and bowls for you to use. What makes Scribner's go above and beyond when it comes to your furbaby is that they offer you bandanas that you can put on your pup to show whether they are friendly or shy. Our dog rocked his green bandana with pride and many guests were excited to pet him. I would suggest reserving the sauna and hopping back and forth between the pool to really make the most of it. The entire grounds are enjoyable and relaxing the walk around. This is a small but important detail but the free coffee and tea they offer are top notch. I would highly suggest taking advantage of that. read more

One of my top dog friendly destinations! Love the outdoor area for my dog to explore and sniff (on leash) and being able to grab a meal and drinks on the restaurant. Cozy. Welcoming. Warm. Knowledgeable staff. This was my first time in Hunter and I'm very grateful for the staff recommendations of cafes, tubing, and fun activities to do in town. It was our anniversary (and kid free weekend) and we were greeted in our room with a personalized welcome note and bottle of bubbly. Little details like that are things people remember! Don't forget the s'mores buy the fire. See you again Scribner's. Next time I'll bring the kid. I felt guilty cause it was so family friendly :) read more

Scribner's Catskill Lodge - Lovely stay - Hotels Near Me - Hunter, New York

Scribners is a cozy space in a decent location. The rooms are ok and the service is bad-to-okay. I thought there were lots of additional opportunity to satisfy the customer that were not taken, but that's for another time. The value is where scribner's lacks. You stay at a place like scribners for the price you pay and you expect a certain standard of excellence. You probably will not get what you were hoping for. Two of their main amenities, the glice skating rink and the sauna are pretty disappointing. If I ever paid for those individually (price is most certainly built in) and got what I got, I'd be pretty upset. They say it's covered by the "destination fee" for now, but its most certainly priced in and plays a heavy role in marketing for the property itself. The sauna is colder than your room. I sweat zero amount in it. Not to mention how you need to reserve it and there is only one small (basically a private) sauna for the entire property. The water from the showers in the rooms will spray all over your bathroom floor. The showers don't come with a door, just one of those half glass wall things (aren't I sophisticated?). The rooms dont have fireplaces unless they are specific fireplace rooms, which is pretty sad for a lodge themed property that charges quite a lot for those rooms. Many, if not all, rooms lack a fridge and microwave, so convenience factors are also missing. Oh and your "sofa" has no back..just the cold hard wall. They give you some pillows, but you need to stack like 5 of those to make a DIY back support that is comfortable enough. They itch like crazy too. The vibes are nice though. It's cozy, quiet, and has nice mountain views. I probably wouldn't stay again unless someone else is paying or there is some big discount because as quaint as it is, I could never justify the cost. This review does not include the restaurant, which is a separate establishment. read more

We had an amazing experience staying at Scribner's. It's beautiful, clean, organized, and the staff has the place running wonderfully. We were 4 adults and a toddler, so we rented the Scribner Suite which worked out well for us as a family. FYI it doesn't provide much privacy since there are no doors. The view from the balcony was incredible. We also got a weekday stay promo so breakfast was included during part of our stay. Breakfast was DELICIOUS and generous -including entree, side, juice - and lasted from 8am-12pm. BUT worth noting that lunch at the shack by the pool and dinner at prospect are not available on Mondays and Tuesdays. They had daily s'mores, yoga equipment available, beautiful books, an amazing garden of veggies and flowers that we literally visited every day with amazement, corn hole, etc... the sauna barrel was a fun and sweaty experience, but no doubt the most beautiful view I've had from a sauna. The pool area is great, but note that the pool is barely heated. Very dog friendly and in fact counted more dogs thank children. The location is great - 20 minutes to everything - the waterfalls, gardens, railway explorers, Phoenicia diner, etc... Overall it was an incredibly relaxing experience and I would highly recommend! read more

All around fantastic. We spent a weekend here with a group of friends/family celebrating a new marriage and had a wonderful time. The hotel and facilities/grounds are top notch. The bar/lounge was great. Chris, Kelly, Laney and others on the staff were 5/5 amazing with our group and all our request's. Conveniently located to town and the mountain, only a short drive from gorgeous hikes. Absolutely recommend this spot for anything from a weekend getaway to a wedding, and personally hope to be back. read more

We came here for a little summer getaway and we were disappointed. The rooms feel very sparse and the walls are paper thin. There was no charm. The front desk staff was fine. We booked a room with a loft and when we got to our room, we realized there was no TV up in the loft. The livingroom part of the room had hard built in benches that did not feel inviting at all. We asked the front desk if they had any other rooms and they were very nice and showed us two other options, but every room has the hard built in benches and super sparse interiors. We ended up taking the smallest room, so we could feel some sense of coziness. Went for dinner at the restaurant and the bartender was very rude and was acting like he was doing us a favor and was very unwelcoming . Our waiter for dinner was nice. The dinner menu was very limited and lacked vegetables. The pool is cheaply redone and the pool deck did not feel welcoming. Overall we were disappointed. We booked 3 nights and left after 1, but we could not get a refund because they have a minimum of 8 nights cancellation policy. Very disappointed. read more

Ahhh I love this place so much it hurts. It's like sleep away camp for grown ups from Brooklyn and it made us so, so happy. If you've ever suspected that most of your desires can be reduced to a simple formula and marketed back to you, Scribner's provides a definitive and emphatic yes. There were bonfires and s'mores every night, a taco truck in residence, a free all day coffee and oat milk station, a world class restaurant that's on par with/better than anything in any major city, friendly staff/ guests/dogs everywhere, the air smells amazing, the views of the mountains are incredibly beautiful, the list goes on. If it's your dream to sit in multiple Adirondak chairs, be surrounded by nature, eat amazing food, and have a great central location for hiking and skiiing, this is the place to be. The garden and sauna are also must do highlights. The garden is so beautiful and grows much of the produce that supplies the restaurant. There are also fun events like movie nights and we got to live a life long dream we didn't even know we had by watching Night at the Roxbury poolside. The only not great thing is the rooms are a little bare bones and run down. Multiple things were broken, there were some mystery stains on the wall and ceiling, the towels are thin and scratchy, and the shower doesn't have glass that goes all the way across so you have to stay huddled under the rainfall ceiling mount and water still gets everywhere- not a luxury experience, but the mountain view is tremendous and the front desk is so quick and helpful you can't stay mad. Moreover, who's to say the slight disrepair isn't just a highly curated hipster nod providing some infamous Mount Airy Lodge '90s nostalgia vibes?? (For anyone not blessed enough to know what I'm talking about, go on YouTube right now and watch the Mount Airy Lodge TV Commercial and family home video from 1992.) In the words of Stefan, "this place has everything." Anyway, it was magical and the Catskills and Scribner's have a special place in our hearts. Can't wait to go back. read more

Bae took me here for my birthday weekend and it was nothing short of magical. We stayed in the Mountain King room with the lovely balcony and Hunter Mountain view. That bed is one of the most comfortable beds either of us had ever slept in. We still talk about it to this day lol my ONLY downfall with this room is that the shower is a rainfall shower head -- which is not really black girl friendly or friendly for ANYONE who doesn't want to get their hair wet quite frankly. So showering everyday was an adventure to say the least. We ate dinner at their on-site restaurant called Scribner's Prospect. We both had their house burger...unbelievably good. I wish I could remember the names of their cocktails but trust me, you won't be disappointed. Our waiter was so pleasant. I initially ordered their fish speciality dish and had to be totally honest with him and told him I didn't like it. I hate to send back food but they took it back with no problem and returned with that juicy burger we liked so much. It was my birthday dinner so that seriously made my night. The dining room is spaced out and the entire wait staff wore masks. The front desk folks were friendly. This is a super short drive away from Hunter Mountain's ski resort where we took snowboarding lessons. It's also a short drive from any in town restaurants but please note that all of the town's restaurants close at 8pm and the on-site restaurant is closed for dinner on Monday's and Tuesday's! We're typically late night eaters so this was a bit of a challenge for us. We ended up finding a lovely restaurant in Woodstock instead but just be mindful of this so you don't go to bed hungry. We absolutely loved our stay and wished that we had booked just one more night there. If we had time, we would have hit up their on-site ice skating rink or have a cocktail in their decorated lobby. We'll be back one day for sure read more

We came here for my boyfriend and I's birthday. The prospect restaurant had terrible service and the food was not that good especially for the price you're paying. Paying over $200 for the hotel room just have the TV to barely not work in the shower-head to barely work. We also wanted to order room service, but the staff seem annoyed, we wanted to do that so we just went and picked it up for takeout. When we went, we were excited to use the sauna, but it was broken. We were able to use the other amenities like playing pool and skating on the glice. Besides that it was a nice getaway, but just very outdated and staff needs to be better. read more

Our stay was fantastic. Lodge grounds are beautiful and spacious. There's fire pits, a pool, sauna, restaurant, pool bar (pool shack), a garden. Staff are friendly. Food is good..although pricey and slightly limited to our previous visits. It's a very peaceful place to unwind and regroup. Close to many tranquil Catskills spots and swimming holes. I'd come back in a heartbeat and it was one of the best stays we've had in the Catskills...however it was also the most expensive. A couple of cons: No hairdryer, iron, or fridge in Mountain View room. Music wasn't all the good near pool area. Breakfast menu is very limited. Drink choices for pool shack are slim. The frozen alcoholic beverage they sell at the shack is ridiculous looking and odd. My favorites: Grounds of lodge as well as the Decor. Old man Scribners garden. All the wildflowers. The room balcony. How open and airy room felt. Cleanliness. Convenience to Catskills stops. read more

I stayed at Scribner's during the summer of Covid. They were following all guidelines and proper distancing was in place. The property is beautiful. My favorite part is Old Man Scribner's Garden, they grow a lot of their own fruits and vegetables they use at the hotel restaurant, Prospect. Our room was nice, nothing extraordinary. It was a good size and had a flatscreen smart TV along with an electric fireplace. We had a view of the parking lot but it didn't matter much. They provide fresh apples as a snack and a s'mores kit to use at nighttime around the fire outside. We used the pool which was great. There are plenty of seats and lounges spaced apart to use. They have a small lunch option by the pool called The Shack though it had closed for the day when we got there, so we didn't get to have lunch there. The staff is extremely kind and helpful. Whenever we had a question, we always receive a thorough and prompt response. The library is a great place to hang out. Plenty of books and chairs to sit in, felt like I was in my own living room! We had dinner and breakfast at Prospect on the hotel property. Prospect is a good option if you don't want to leave the hotel. Prices are expensive and the menu can be limited but overall happy with the meals we had here. Overall, Scribner's is a beautiful hotel and a nice escape away from regular life. One thing I don't like is just how expensive it is. We were lucky to grab a relatively "cheap" price this time for 1 night but often rooms start at over $400 and sometimes there is a 2 or 3 night minimum. I can not justify spending $1,000 to come here for a short time. Scribner's is nice for an overnight trip, but if you aren't into hiking or skiing, I do feel like staying more than one night may be boring. I would like to come back if I can get a cheap-ish room again! read more

I went here for a getaway with my girlfriend and it was a wonderful experience. The rooms are cozy and if you pay extra there's a nice view of the mountain which is also a ski resort in the winter time. They include white noise machines, s'mores for taking out and make at the fire, extra blankets and plenty of hair and body product. The facility is dog friendly. There was a dog book signing event when we arrived where people drank wine, read from entries, bought merch, and let dogs walk around and play (on leashes and supervised). There is also a large open area and outdoor patio with plenty of bookshelves loaded with reading material and some board games. A fire place in the great hall and outside for s'mores. A pool table. Finally, there is a restaurant with delicious meals and mixed drinks. There's also a wine place just a few minutes away with a very broad local and beyond selection of spirits if you decide you'd rather snuggle in your room and have a drink while you sit on a Adirondack chair and stair at the mountains under the pale moonlight as dogs play in the rolling green fields and along the perimeter of the lodges swimming pool. Nice if you want to just get away. They have wifi if you want to get away from your getaway too. read more

Really enjoyed our stay - it was cozy and warm and beautifully decorated. Upon arrival there were s'mores in the room along with a fireplace (gas one). They had a lot of board games to rent. Yoga class was wonderful - space wasn't the greatest but the instructor was lovely. Drinks they mixed at the "Apres Ski" were delicious and strong! Outdoor sauna was warm and a unique experience. Free coffee and tea all day was such a nice touch. The only gripe I had was with Prospect, the restaurant. Everyone, from the maître d' to our waiter, was rude and disinterested. Menu was limited - they had two fish options, chicken, and a burger (which was sold out). Definitely skip. read more

What a charming inn. We stayed here over a weekend trip to the Catskills and Saratoga and couldn't have been happier. Everything about the place has such character, from the bedroom loft, to the fireplace book collection in the lobby, to the surprise smores on the patio upon arrival. We loved the lobby area to relax and read a good book. We also enjoyed the restaurant as well. The rooms are nice and clean, and the shower was nice with the most amazing smelling shampoo and conditioner! Although there isn't so much "to do" per say in hunter, I think that is part of the charm since it is a great place to get away from it all. I have been getting away to the Catskills for about eight years now. We decided to stay somewhere different; Scribner's Lodge. I thought the room prices were a little steep but we were their two days before christmas eve, so thats expected. We checked in. We were in our room for 15 mins and room service came in without knocking and he realized he entered the wrong room. The room was very nice and cozy. Shortly after being in the room we found out they forgot to put hand soap in the room. We went to the front desk to get soap and the lady was kinda snobby about it. Service was not great. There is a lot of young people working here that seem like they don't want to be working. We got dinner that night and for the five of us, the bill came out to $273 (not counting tip) and they charged us $2 for four pieces of bread while we waited for our food. That took the icing on the cake for me. The next day we had breakfast at the lodge. I had three pancakes for $12 I believe. I left hungry. The food is way overpriced. Our waiter didnt seem to be in the best mood. We asked for water for the table and she only brought over two cups of water for four people. I went hiking afterwards and my wife and her cousins waited for me at the bar in the afternoon after checking out. The same waiter was working the bar also but she only knew how to make two or three drinks. She even said she was not the bartender. In the afternoon there should be a bartender on staff. So basically to sum it up: the service is poor and the food served is overpriced. I would stay here again because the rooms are nice. But I wouldn't eat here again. I'll stay here again only if my normal go to motel is sold out. We came here with my wife's cousins from England and I was honestly embarrassed the way we were serviced. Ive spoken so highly of getting away upstate and they were not thrilled about it. If they fixed a few issues this would be a great place. All these reviews seem to list all the same issues and things that I noticed while staying here. Management needs to be revamped here. read more

Beautiful looking lodge but unfortunately the service is terrible. Just a few links to work out but definitely has the potential to be great. Restaurant: attitude from a number of waitstaff (not Bessie, she was great) and every morning took forever to take our orders. Service was incredibly slow but the quality of the food was rather good. Cleaning: day 1 our rooms weren't cleaned until after 4pm but the following days were much better and were cleaned by mid morning. Room: we had the king size suite which was great. The lower level was comfy and well designed. Unfortunately, the top floor with the king size bed was exceptionally hot as the cold air from the lower floor air con doesn't ever quite reach it. There is a fan in the room but not enough to keep you comfortable during the summer. I don't mind heat but it was so hot that myself not my husband was able to sleep well the entire time we we're there. I'd stick to a queen suite where everything is on one level. Pool: great! Very kid friendly. Interior: gorgeous. Great interior design. Loved the library area with the games. Was great for kids on a rainy day. read more

The service at this hotel is abominable. We arrived for our weekend stay only to be told we did not have a reservation, we showed our confirmation email, and a girl at the front desk admitted to changing our reservation. Despite this, the manager, Kate, blamed us and said we changed our reservation. Mind you, there were no emails to show any changes. We sat in the lobby for over an hour while no one did anything. We were told it was against their policy for us to speak to a manager. They said they were fully booked. The manager did not once apologize for their error and gave us a lecture on respect. This place is trash. Do not stay here. Service is ridiculously unprofessional. The only positive experience of our trip was the owner of the restaurant who is very kind, professional, and reasonable. Visit the restaurant but don't stay at this horrible hotel. read more

Old Man Scribner has a good thing going here... Pros: - Beautifully renovated (this iteration of Scribner's opened in 2016, before it was a run down lodge of the same name). In the lobby expect a nice mix of modern and rustic with old books lining the walls, plenty of games to keep you occupied (plus a pool table), a fireplace, cozy rugs and furniture. In the rooms expect minimalistic, zen and rustic with a fireplace. - A great, romantic restaurant is attached (separate review to follow) - Pet-friendly (prepare to be stared down by some dogs who think they own the place but are adorable at the same time) - DJs play in the lobby from 3-5:30 on weekends, which makes the lobby feel like the place to be. I liked that some people were there by themselves reading, while others were playing games. You could bring a group of friends here or even make new ones in this kind of atmosphere? - Rooms come with a little S'mores kit to use at one of two outdoor fireplaces - Views are amazing of Hunter Mountain (you can literally watch people ski down the mountain) - The drive up to the lodge takes you on a winding road past a beautiful waterfall - The nearby town of Tannersville (10 min drive) has a really cute Main Street with places to eat and antique shops to visit - Free yoga in the mornings (at least on Saturdays and Sundays) Cons: - The price (I think it's $100 too high a night for 1 bed) - The fact that you usually cannot rent one night at a time during weekends - Some of the clientele reek of wealth, which makes sense due to the high price tag but can be off-putting to a middle class gal like myself. Stand your ground, middle class. We deserve Scribner's too! read more
