Needing an escape from NYC, my boyfriend and I picked a place at random for a long summer weekend. We lucked out at Scribner's! The place is charming, cozy, and beautifully decorated. The rooms are spacious and very unique. The restaurant far exceeded our expectations! Everything was just perfect. We will definitely be back! read more

Extremely limited menu. Asked out server what their speciality was, she responds with cocktails. Ok! Order two of one of their "specialty " cocktails and are told 10 minutes later they only have one left. Regardless, the menu was not thrilling after a day of skiing. Go somewhere else. So many other places available much more worth any wait. read more

We had breakfast on sunday, 8/30/2020 My wife had Yogurt with Berries and I had a Cheese Omelette. Very pleasant until 2 hours later when my wife started to throw up violently and continuously for over 3 hours. I immediately called and notified the Restaurant Manager, Francesco. I suggested cross contamination of the food. He promised to investigate and get back to me. Never returned my call to find out how she was or the result of the "investigation" Next day I called to find a less than sympathetic Office that told me that the Restaurant was closed until Wednesday. Next , complained about being ignored. The ignominious Manager finally called back and suggested that it was in my wife's head that caused the disgusting episode. Guess what, if it is in your head to eat there, get it out of your head before you destroy your day!!! Proceed only if suffer from bulimia. Eric Fenchel read more

My wife and I recently traveled to Scribner's the day after our wedding for a 'mini-moon' and couldn't have been happier with our decision. - staff was friendly & accommodating throughout our stay - had 3 meals at prospect, all unique, all delicious - room was minimalistic, clean, had everything we needed - pool was inviting, warm, and gave us some great views - the surrounding area of Tannersville was quaint, and less than 2 miles away. Other Catskill towns like Hunter, Hudson, Phoenicia are also a short drive away and worth exploring for delicious foods and cool shops One of the very best things was the community at the lodge. Settle in near the library or campfire and you're bound to have a good conversation with interesting people. We highly recommend Scribner's, and are already planning our next trip back! read more

I have not been during the COVID-19 pandemic but have stayed a few times prior to that. The rooms are great -- clean, modern, yet with some nice, homey and rustic touches. My favorite spots are the pool and living room area, which is beautifully decorated and inviting. The Shack offers tasty bites near the pool. The on-site full restaurant is amazing and never disappoints. Love the cocktails as well. Yoga classes with Jeanne Licurse were both relaxing and invigorating, whether in the studio or on the patio looking at the mountains. My kid loved the s'mores! It's definitely a luxury stay at $400/night but a great treat once in a while. read more

Love it here. Hospitality on point - the staff, decor, ambiance, food.. everything. Post-COVID - everything felt extremely clean, guests kept their distance from other guests, and all wore masks in shared spaces. 10/10. read more

I live and work in Manhattan for over 20 years. I have no problem paying for a nice steak, all I ask for is if I'm paying don't rip me off. I had the New York strip for 1 person, and it was literally half a steak. It was 4 thin slices. After talking with my father, who also had eaten there. He informed me he took my nephews to eat there and had a terrible experience too. If you're paying $21 bucks for a cheese burger, do you really need to charge for every club soda you pour? 11 club soda at $3 bucks a pop, and the waitress kept pushing them on the kids. That's more then a little ridiculous. It's trying to be Manhattan, and in Manhattan they don't pull the sh*t they pulled. Do yourself a favor and go eat at Jagerberg, it blows Scribner out of the water. read more

The top notch service, friendly staff and excellent food at Scribner's made our annual romantic Christmas getaway to the Catskills the best yet. My husband and I wanted to leave Brooklyn for some nature and quiet over the holiday. We had no plans to ski but chose the lodge based on word of mouth, photos and a desire to try something new (having spent numerous vacations in home rentals and boutique hotels in and around the Catskills.) We booked two nights initially, but extended to three when we simply weren't ready to leave. First reason is the service. Christmas time in snowy weather can be a formula for chaos but Scribners was run tight. Checkin, help with bags, our room, etc were handled and we eased into vacation mode effortlessly. The staff at the front desk were friendly, knowledgeable, and dare I say real people. We had great conversations and more than a few laughs. Second is the room (king) which was clean, warm and quiet. Although there wasn't a dresser (seems no modern hotels have them anymore) there is a large closet with ample hanging space and a low and long shelf for folded clothes or to place bags so they're off the floor and out of the way. Under that is another clearing to put shoes, easily 8 pairs of boots and shoes. This was the best and most efficient closet design I've seen anywhere. The bathroom has a powerful heater and the hotel shampoo, conditioner and body wash smelled amazing. We took extra showers because it was so nice. Finally, the Prospect Restaurant was an absolute standout. This sounds ridiculous but we ate 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners there (eating in nearby towns for lunch) because the food was simply excellent. EXCELLENT! We arrived quite late the first night and popped down for an easy bite but ended up with salad, soup courses and korean bbq drumsticks. The second night was the Christmas dinner which was Mediterranean inspired lamb with a host of seasonal accompanying dishes (e.g. beets and cucumbers in a tahini sauce, a leafy salad with zaatar if i recall, an herby, nutty rice, and sides of brussels sprouts, green beans and juniper berries, and two dessert courses. The bread and cultured butter were mind blowing. And the next night was Mexican themed - mole chicken tacos, squash quesadillas. Everything was hot, fresh, perfectly dressed and served in an unpretentious dining room with sweeping views of Hunter mountain. Breakfast menu didn't change but everything was delicious - the steel cut oatmeal with fruit and maple syrup, the eggs on croissant, the sourdough bread with butter and jam....so so good. Suffice it to say, I highly recommend staying at the Lodge. For our next visit we plan to bring a few couples and their kids. read more

The lodge is beautiful, cozy, clean and well appointed. The rooms are very comfortable- ours had a lofted bedroom. Loved the shower and the gas fireplace in room was a nice touch. The property is full of comfortable seating areas, fire pits for chilly evenings (and smores), a very nice pool area, and beautiful details all over the grounds. There are many interesting books to read and board games to play with a bottle of wine. The inn is perched on a hill a quick walk or drive to Hunter, and overlooks the mountains. Quick drive to Tannersville for restaurants etc. Front desk staff is friendly- quick to grab us wine opener, glasses, anything else we needed. The restaurant is very good (especially the apps). Great cocktails and lovely environment. Service was a bit slow for dinner but maybe it was a fluke. The complementary yoga in the morning was a great touch. For better or worse, this place seems to be going for the "montauk of the Catskills". As such, it attracts such a crowd. On the particular weekend we visited it was Cider Fest at the hotel- which was fun- but brought it tons of NYC(bk) families and crowded the lodge a bit with chatter about Instagram filters etc- kind of what I was hoping to escape. When the crowd dispersed it was a lot more relaxed and laid back. It would be nice if breakfast was included in the nightly rate- as it is at equally nice places around here i.e. Deer Mountain Inn which is not even as expensive per night as this place is. It is definitely expensive for what you do not get. Nothing in this place is given to guests. well -there is coffee starting usually close to 7:30 but it's not readily refilled nor is it well advertised. At least a continental breakfast would have been nice. Overall we had a nice time on this beautiful property with good onsite bar and restaurant and cozy grounds. I am not sure it is worth the heavy price for this area- but I don't think that will detract the brooklynites. read more

Do not under any circumstance stay in room 50. You will regret it. It is above entrance of hotel and the kitchen vent is attached to its wall. It's a huge vent. The cherry on the cake is their delivery access is also by the room and you will be woken up at god awful hours by huge trucks reversing to access it. No, you don't want to stay in this room! read more

Girl at front desk hates her job, walks around with a scowl and does not like people. Never saw her smile or greet you when you walk in or waLk out. Lodge feels very cold once you enter and then to receive no greeting and a frown? Perhaps this location can not find professional staff. Very important to have a greeting, welcome and a smile. Do NOT expect this anywhere on their 20 acres. Service in restaurant is the same. Rude and entitled comes to mind!! But they are here to provide a service. In this lodge , i believe it is to alienate. This was our second time here and same unhappy staff and bad food for city prices. Save your money and grab some sandwiches at circle W and some drinks and have your isn picnic. 2 Stars for S'mores .. cocktail menu is very weak. Cocktails are served in tiny glasses for High Prices. They were over sweet, we tried 3 different ones and kept telling the waitress we did not want sweet??? Hello! Headache that night from too much sweet alcohol. Again expensive and tiny glasses, Bring your Black card! You will need. Food is really Salty. Menu is high price with mediocre at best food. Menu is completely boring! Very small menu and very boring. No real appetizers and many different spaces in hotel to gather but no bar foods or snack foods or real fun appetizers ~ such a shame. Zero creativity on the menu. Minuscule cheese platter that someone throws in front of you. Not explaining what we were about to eat. The charcuterie platter so tiny! Thrown in front of us, no explaining!! So we begin eating mystery cheese and meats 2 small pieces fennel salami some sort of chorizo 2 tiny pieces, paper thin cured beef (i assume) was gross couldnt eat. Than what looked like Jamon (not sure) was 2 of the tiniest slivers of fat not even 1/8th inch wide by perhaps 1/2 inch long!! Wow! These platters were rations of mystery meats. 3 olives, 4 tiny tiny Cornichons and what looked to be another sliver of grain mustard it was a tiny line not a spoon or a dollop but a line. Enough for 1 piece of mystery meat. Embarrassing! Truly! Than to top it off no crackers or bread come with these pricy doll sized platters so you have to pay an additional $5 for bread and a dab of butter! Again not enough butter for the 4 slices given. WtF??? Ordered a chicken dinner which was overcooked and crazy Salty! Does the "supposed" chef smoke cigarettes? So before coming to this lodge my friends in the area warned us that the foods were crazy salty and overpriced and mediocre quality. Truth and Truth. Funny thing going into the bathroom, 2 ladies were standing in there saying how salty the food was!! I just giggled and did not join in. Well the good news here (1 STAR ) is the best of the night was the s'mores and sitting on the deck laughing about lack of everything in this lodge but a darn fine S'more! Most expensive S'more ever! Honestly no reason to return until they find a new chef and get their staff to smile and realize the reason they are there is Us, the customers ! read more

We have a wonderful experience every time we stay here. The staff is so attentive and welcoming. I feel like I am at home in my own living room when I am sitting by the fire with a book on the couch. I love that they always offer things to do, like an outdoor fire every evening, complimentary yoga, or even free snow shoes to go explore the property. The owners are lovely people. Best part? It's so dog friendly! I always feel comfortable bringing my dogs and feeling relaxed about having them travel with me to such an inviting place! It's perfect during any season. read more

(after renovation) This place is epic. It's simple, efficient, but elegant. Our room had a balcony terrace where the pool was visible and lit at night. Gorgeous. Room was comfortable and restaurant is amazing. Pool and fire pit inviting and bocci ball court so fun. The library area is just stunning and such a centerpiece of community. There are taps of tap and sparkling water where guests can "refill" all day. Pool table is beautiful. Adirondack chairs so comfortable and s'mores for the evening fire pit roast! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. read more

Food was fantastic! Service not so much. It started with the reservations time, we had to wait for 30 min past out reservation to be seated. Then were out of the special at 7:30. We ordered drinks, but when they came, the requested tonic water was plain soda, and the wine didn't arrive. After 15 min we had to remind the waiter of the wine missing. Also, the water wasn't being refilled, and the waitress had to be reminded of that too, but it was hard to get her attention. The dishes and empty glasses weren't cleared either, nor were we asked if we wanted more drinks. The food took almost 45min to arrive, and, while it was all outstanding, the wait had gotten very long. The waitress eventually offered us a free drink for the wait, which was nice, but when we ordered a wine and tonic, she again brought soda water. And, when we paid, the wine was back on the bill... the place looks like a 60s ski lounge, with lots of wood panels and gas fire stoves, endearing, but it is also very noisy. They took out the beautiful, large river stone fireplace that was there before the renovation as well as the grotto in the basement-- both which made the place much more unique and charming. Still, the food is absolutely worth it! read more

We came with a group of six. We're from downstate New York, venture in the city a lot. Jay, the bartender, was the best bartender I ever had. The man knew his drinks, whether he talked about it or made the drinks. He was honest, made fantastic drinks, and was an absolute fantastic bartender that could succeed anywhere his life takes him. He also makes THE BEST Irish coffees. Seriously IRISH COFFEES!!! Better than the Dead a Rabbit in Manhattan and Brooklyn (which are world famous) Besides that, scribners drinks are fantastic. I got the chicken my first time, it was good. Got the ravioli the second time. The pasta is good but not worth the price. Spend $30 for 6 raviolis. Yeah, they handmade their raviolis.. but for a pasta shell on pasta shell and a $600 bill.. definitely not worth it. Basically, foods overpriced, taste is fine, but not worth (on average) $38 an entree. Pasta is between $24-$29 for a handful, literally a single handful of pasta. read more

Amazing. I have been here before about 10 years ago and I'm guilty of making my memories seem way better than they were...in fact I remember this place as being just an awesome Ski Lodge (we had a great time when we were there)....but my husband quickly reminded me that it actually looked more like the hotel from Hot Tub Time Machine!!! lol horrible. The renovation is GREAT!!!!! The place looks fabulous. It's cozy and well appointed. We went for drinks and dinner (and brunch because we loved it so much). Amazing. Dinner We had the Scallops, the Fondue, the Beets. I could have stopped there but we didn't....we went on for the Sea Bass, the Chicken and the Mushroom plate. The flavors were eclectic, fresh, exciting!! The food was presented so perfectly...it was like having a little Manhattan flair at Hunter Mountain. Just perfect. We give our hats off to Chef Sagar!!! The staff was BEYOND...also. So welcoming...they make you WANT to stay and cozy up at the bar. Brunch...just go with the French Toast. They make their own brioche and then they soak it for like a week. It tastes like what dreams are made of. Just do it. Enjoy!!!! read more

Very disappointing! Instead of a comfortable sofa to view television, there was an uncomfortable bench. The ceiling in the bedroom was slanted so much I couldn't stand up when getting in and out of bed. I'm only 5'4". After a day in the Catskills we came back to a room which had not been touched. No regular milk for coffee in the morning. They ran out. If you plan to stay here, my advice is to check the room before you pay. Cindy S. read more

Excellent experience and the food in the restaurant is outstanding. This place is sorely needed in Hunter and welcome. Great bar and bartenders. Knowledgable, friendly. I wanted to find a romantic getaway from noisy NYC for a few days and thank gosh I found Scribner's online. It was beyond perfect. We were upgraded to a king loft. After a warm greeting at the front door, we were walked to our room by the gentleman at the front desk. There was a handwritten card with two apples and supplies for smores by the fire for later that night on the table in our room. We spent the night in our soft bathrobes and had a wonderful sleep in the clean, cozy bed. Breakfast is a tray of beautiful pastries and fresh butter and jam which was perfect to get us started for the day and keep us full on our hike up to Kaaterskill Falls. The bar and restaurant were great as well. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

Scribner's is always on the top of my list when I'm planning a trip upstate. I've visited 3x twice in the fall/winter and once during the summer. It's the perfect getaway if your looking to get out of the city and experience some real time upstate. The Restaurant is also one of the best in the area so you don't need to travel much once arriving. Though if you do chose so, the little town of Hunter Mountain has the most charming stores. read more

(Note: this review is for the new hotel, after the 2016 renovation) Beautiful rooms and an excellent restaurant! There's nothing as good as this in the Catskills. Belongs in magazines like Wallpaper, Monocle, etc. The chef has major chops from NYC. read more

This is an attractive facility run by the wrong management team, apparently. Very rigid cancellation policies, require entire payment upfront, and provide arrogant service. Rooms are small and uncomfortable and very stripped down. The public areas are attractive but unless you want to sleep in them, they're of minimal value. They made enormous mistakes on my billing, resulting in my being erroneously charged over $1400 and then told me it could take up to 10 days for the charges to be reversed. So they tie up a customer's money for their mistakes. The apology was perfunctory at best. Service at restaurant was poor as well though the food was fine. With arrogance like that, they'll find their customers looking for other options, which are readily available. read more

A great stay and cozy atmosphere. The front desk was very accommodating. I can't wait to come here again.

Came to stay up here for a friends wedding in Tannersville and it looked like everything we were looking for. Only to realize my friends and I had a bad experience with the staff. Do not stay here!!!!! The service is terrible, they get angry if you ask questions, especially the manager. Overly priced and highly not recommended. For the price you pay here.. you should get a much better experience. The best part is that I was so shocked at the service, I started researching who the manager is. I eventually realized that the same manager was the same guy who was the 'Director of Operations' of the Chelsea hotel when my mom stayed there in 2008. She had the worse experience with him. Do not get scammed by baby dictator!!!!! A snippet from Glennon's past experience: 'We've heard from multiple sources that today is Director of Operations Glennon Travis's last day at the Chelsea Hotel. In his brief tenure here at the hotel, Glennon has managed to alienate nearly everyone he has come into contact with: residents sane and otherwise, guests, employees, union reps, reporters, you name it. His habitually obnoxious and abusive rejoinders to anything from mere pleasantries to valid questions by concerned residents, have led us to speculate on this blog that BD Hotels may be using him as a kind of one-man harassment crew to drive out the rent-stabilized tenants and union employees.' read more

Have not been to Scribner's- but had a very bad experience trying to redeem a Gilt voucher that is worth a note of caution. I bought a voucher for two weeknight stays at Scribner's from Gilt.com. The terms and conditions stated no blackout dates and noted that guests would stay in one of their queen rooms. Before buying the voucher, I checked the hotel's availability on their website and they appeared to have queen rooms available. When I emailed Scribner's to make a reservation, I was informed that there were no applicable rooms available from December 21-31. There was no explanation of why this was. When I checked online this morning, the terms on the voucher had been CHANGED from when I originally bought the voucher, and now listed December 21-31 as blackout dates. I received no notice of the change to the T&C of the voucher by Gilt or Scribner's Lodge. It was only after I mentioned this that I was told there had been an 'error' by Gilt and that December 21-31 were in fact blackout dates and they were unable to honor the voucher based on the terms on which they were purchased. The only solution offered by the hotel was to apply the value of the voucher to the full price of any available rooms that week- an additional $150 on the $125 initially spent, which seems to defeat the entire point of the voucher. This kind of bait and switch is dishonest and irresponsible on the part of both Scribner's Lodge and Gilt City. Neither felt it necessary to inform buyers of the error or make any reparations. I would avoid for this reason. read more

If you actually want to eat than i wouldn't go to Scribner's, unless you feel like making a reservation four days early. The people who work there are either grumpy or rude. I have been going there since it opened. Every single time I have gone there they have had so many open tables but they say "we have all the tables booked". We came back after eating at another restaurant to see these "booked tables "- instead there more than ten tables open. The other problem is the food is only mediocre. Lastly I wouldn't waste my time going somewhere to just interact with rude people and probably not get seated. read more
