Always an amazing time. I keep coming back. It's an old school vibe and an amazing time. Never had a bad stay. Life here is good.

Wonderful Inn at Round Top. Great views of the Catskills with lots of trails available for hiking! There are soo many activities on the property. There are no golf carts when you go golfing, but it wasn't a bad walk through the 9 holes. Beautiful place to stay, that was recently made a historical site!! Breakfast was amazing! Rooms don't have mini fridges and it's an older place, but beautiful and everyone was oh so friendly! Would definitely come back for a stay!

Started coming here as a kid, now I take my family here. Great place to unwind and get away from the spin of day to day. Beautiful grounds during all seasons. Nice people. Good food. The WiFi works very well, but unplug anyway!

Even my kids didn't want to touch the keys.

MAIN BUILDING: Old, worn out but clean. There's a difference between rustic charm purposely decorated to be as such and and simply worn out/old. Place was built in the 1800's and it feels like it. Ever go to an old museum that has that historic old musty smell? That's the smell-memory that popped into my head when I stepped in. They really need a carpet cleaning or new carpets. Again they do a great job of cleaning. Not much dust. But everything felt sticky and I didn't want to sit on half of the fabric chairs because I felt I would get hit with a waft of history. And yes, there is an adorable black cat that roams around freely so if you have a sensitive cat-allergy, beware. No elevators and all rooms are 2nd floor and up. The porch area is long and there are ample rocking chairs but there are bird nests all around...at first it's cute and you point and say "wow! Nature!" But then you find yourself dodging the birds that fly over your head and before you know it you're playing Bird-Poop Hop-Scotch around the front porch. There was one corner by one of the entrances that was so bad with bird poop they placed a trash bin under it. Just makes you feel icky. REC AREA: Across the main building is the rec area....you enter and again... hit with musty smell that makes you wonder if it's safe to breath this stuff into your lungs. There is a pool table (might require quarters... we didn't use it) and this is where their bowling alley is. Unfortunately due to COVID, it was closed. You will need singles or quarters to play pool table or the 3 arcade machines (a claw, a shooting game, and a precision/prize game). There's a gift shop but nothing fun for kids and most of the trinkets looked rather dull. Down to the basement you go for the Rec room. They have an air hockey table (that didn't work too well...puck fell dead in some areas of the table), shuffleboard, ping pong table and a giant chess set. Didn't want to touch the chess pieces nor stay long enough to play it... it was in the corner with stacked chairs and rolled up carpet... just gives you un I inviting vibe. Luckily our rooms were less 1800's and more year 2000. Room included: Beds Lamps A good-working AC (but at night we had an ordeal...the AC window gaps were not covered and we ended up killing 40+ mosquitoes that one night alone that kept coming in. We stuffed all window entry points with a towels and tissues and finally kept the bugs out). Electric plugs WiFi worked great! Mirror Dressers Bathroom (shower tub, toilet, sink, plastic cups and small toiletries). Note: no fan... so... you most likely will stink up your room or take it for the team and keep the door closed. Either ways, someone will suffer. Water pressure is good but like most of the water in that area it leaves that sticky layer on your skin. A rocking chair that squeaked so loud that we got agitated at anybody who sat it in. Towels Bed sheets and pillow cases were clean. No safe and the door locks are simple twist locks with keys so we felt semi-uncomfortable leaving valuables in our room and had to carry them on us at all times when we left the room. Hot water, coffee and iced water set up by the bookcase/library foyer. A closet-sized area where you can buy beverages or snacks. FOOD: Fair/Good. A small side salad and piece of fruit was fresh and much needed as everything else tasted it was made from frozen or canned ingredients. See pics of menu. I'm sure the cook does their best with what they've got to work with. I'm just saying... it's good old fashion cafeteria/retreat food and you're going to want a big bowl of salad when you get home. Portions are hearty. Dinner is 6-7. So if you're a night owl who eats late at night, might want to bring some cup o noodles or something to eat. No access to microwave but you can ask staff to microwave something for you. Staff is great and helpful. During your stay you get one waiter who is assigned to serve all your meals there. Be sure to tip them at the end of your stay! They post their suggested tip rates (see pic). GOLF COURSE: maintained fair. No carts and lots of hills to walk up. Some marker were not clear so we played 8 of the 9 holes. Couldn't figure out where hole #4?5? was because it wasn't marked or we couldn't figure it out. Should be clear. POOLS: outdoor pool was 3-5ft deep. Great for kids. It rained one entire day of our stay and we opted NOT to use their indoor pool... it just felt grimy looking at it. Luckily we brought a large iPad to do a movie night in our room and brought our own board games. POND: there's a man-made pond behind the main building. They had frogs and fish and hundreds of tadpoles. There was a long net there so the kids had fun trying to catch the tadpol, looked at it, say "ewww" and release them back into the pond. Repeat. Hehe. An okay stay but we left with no feelings of wanting to return.

I started staying at the Winter Clove when I was a kid growing up on Long Island - I believe an old ad in the "Long Island Catholic" was the impetus. I've now returned as an adult with a family and we enjoy Winter Clove all over again. Realize that its not the fanciest place, the food is okay, but the kids love it (and they are now in their 20's), the activities are varied, there is entertainment, we love the golf and there is a lot to do in the local area (see the Mountain Brauhaus). Lots of places in the Cairo/Round Top area are long gone (Pickwick, Dellwood) but the Winter Clove endures.

**This is a review for Char's at the Bavarian Manor, not for the inn itself**…read more We came here for dinner this evening and it was a total disaster. We are visiting with family in town and were told about the new launch of this restaurant and we're excited to check it out. We had a 5:30 reservation and were seated right away. We were a party of 6 adults and a toddler. Our party ordered apps, we got the deviled eggs and the fried calamari. These things took 45 minutes to get to the table. Serving someone deviled eggs shouldn't take 45 minutes, and the calamari was frozen, so we are unsure why the opening of the service was so slow. It was almost as if the chef was deviling the eggs right at that time and for the amount of time we waited she would've have to have been cutting and battering a squid in the flesh which I know was not happening in there. Also, just to note the restaurant wasn't full. There were probably four other tables with diners. At this point, our toddler is starting to get increasingly restless, as it has been an hour and change, and the entrées have not been delivered yet at this time. My husband and I are taking turns to go into the lobby to distract her and get her moving so she wouldn't have a meltdown in the restaurant. We keep inquiring about where the dinner was and we're told several times "it's on its way" or "it's coming soon". Flash forward to 7:30pm. Our entrées were scattered arriving to the table, I asked the waitress where are my child's grilled cheese was and she said that she had forgot to put it in. (She did say she was sorry but when you have a hangry child sorry doesn't cut it) We waited all this time and the food for our baby's meal didn't exist. At this point, she was having a full fledged meltdown in the lobby, and so did I. I expressed great displeasure to the server and told her I needed her to box up mine and my husband's meals as soon as they arrived to the table, so we could leave to go deal with our toddler at home because she had reached her breaking point due to the long wait and lack of FOOD IN A RESTAURANT. We waited for our dinner service for two hours and the quality did not justify the long wait. Water logged canned green beans (the kind you get in a school or prison cafeteria),flavorless mashed potatoes, what looks and tastes like stove top stuffing... and the worst part about the whole experience, was not receiving proper customer service for this terrible experience. Me and my husband didn't even get to eat our meals at the table in the actual restaurant, which we were still charged for fully. My mother-in-law told me they comped the grilled cheese from the check (and again, I wouldn't know because I had to leave) but comping a $10 item that you forgot to put in, in the first place is not enough for the bad experience overall. We will never come back here. The kitchen brigade seems nonexistent or very inexperienced. Piss poor dinner service with even worse customer service.

I ordered Sauerbraten that was served with red cabbage and a potato dumpling. All delicious and tons of meat. Ordered a few apps for sharing including their 5 star potato pancakes. I also ordered the crab cakes based on other Yelp reviews. While they were delicious, they didn't live up to the hype, maybe because I had Authentic German cuisine on my mind. I also sampled some spaetzel off my wife's plate and it was amazing. My wife had the Wiener schnitzel which she would highly recommend and another in our party had the Jager schnitzel, also great. Their German beer selection was great with about 4 or 5 euro pours on tap. So why not a perfect 5 based on my comments. I will say it is a 4 star with an asterisk due to Covid. We were only able to get a 7:30 reservation as that was the earliest available which was fine. Service started good and in the middle of our order, waitress got pulled away to served food to another table stating she would be right back. She didn't return for over 20 minutes to ask the other two at our table for their order. Not a big deal because we were not in any rush. Food was a bit slow but not unbearable, especially with Covid restrictions etc. one person in our party got dessert and a minute after we paid the bill, still with drinks half full, we were told dining room was closing. I get that they wanted to go home but the 20-30 minute delay taking our order is the only reason we were still there. (Side note, the server was very good but something sidetracked her) We will definitely return to the Bavarian Manor and I highly suggest it for a nice meal in a cool area of New York.

Everyone is shocked when I tell them that we stayed inside what was the giraffe house. The rooms are well-appointed, and the communal are spacious. There's a full kitchen for you to use, couches, tables, a coffee bar. But for the people who are here to explore the modern ruins, the real appeal is outside the inn. We probably spent 5 hours exploring all over the abandoned zoo, and I'm not sure we covered everything. Almost everything is open, so you can go into the buildings, inside the fences, even inside the cages. It's spooky, but so cool. And since the inn has only five rooms, we hardly saw anyone while we were out there, since you can only explore the property if you're staying there. It's only about 20 minutes to downtown Catskill, where we went to eat both nights, but while you're on the property, it's completely quiet, except for the creepily atmospheric sounds of the gun range down the road.

They don't have a sign outside, but Christine was sitting on the porch waiting for guests and waved at us as we were driving by, so we knew we were in the right place. She has a special knack for identifying who is looking for the show based solely on how slow they are driving! We arrived early and it was a lovely day, so Christine invited us to sit on their porch. We chatted a bit and she shared some recommendations about other things to do in the area. Sean came outside and did a card trick for us while we waited. Once the other guests arrived, we were led into their library for the show. It was truly intimate. The audience included only six people. We were seated in comfy leather upholstered chairs and surrounded by floor to ceiling shelves filled with books and knick knacks. Sean is a former trial lawyer and pivoted his career at the age of 47 to become a magician. He told us parts of his life story throughout the show, making it feel very personal and poignant. He did a variety of tricks, with rope, cards, distraction, and sleight of hand. There was a lot of audience participation, with almost every trick involving one or more members of the group. We also stood a few times so that we could all participate together. Sean is a master of his craft and many of the tricks were truly awe inspiring. The show was fun, engaging, and heart warming. He performs at several venues throughout the area, but I recommend the home show because it's designed for adults. Even if you don't typically like magic shows, this one is not to be missed and you'll leave feeling inspired and intrigued by the art form.

If you don't get to the end of this review and only read one thing: Hiring Sandra was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. She is beyond dedicated to giving you the wedding of your dreams, and her ability to execute and make it ALL happen is nothing short of extraordinary. Every wedding needs a Sandra! We had the pleasure of working with Sandra from the beginning of our wedding planning journey all the way through our 3 day wedding weekend. When we were stumped looking for venues that could accommodate our large guest list AND a weekend-long celebration. Sandra approached us with a "think outside the box" venue: Timber Lake Camp, a beautifully serene summer camp nestled in the Catskills. We were unsure about the idea of a summer camp wedding but trusted her instinct - and thankfully we did. The day we visited the camp we knew it was PERFECT. 500 gorgeous acres with plenty of room to accommodate ALL of our guests, that we could have all to ourselves for an entire weekend - camp cabins, facilities, staff, and all! It truly felt like she had pulled a rabbit out of a hat and that was only the start of Sandra's magic! Throughout the entire year and a half long planning process, Sandra lent us her ear and expertise: she listened to our wishes, concerns, thoughts; guided us through a million different decisions; provided alternative options/ideas to meet our budget; and found the perfect vendors to bring our vision to life. She sat in on our calls with the coordinator at the camp, and even made visits to the camp with us - including one visit during a snowstorm! She also managed our multitude of vendors (including 3 separate caterers!) from the initial inquiries all the way through to the end of packing up after the wedding. When the wedding weekend came around, Sandra stayed on site all 3 days and made every event run smoothly - we felt like she was somehow everywhere all at once! We had multiple events, including our rehearsal, a Welcome BBQ, Karaoke Night, late night bonfire, and activities throughout the camp. If there were any hiccups, we didn't know about them! The day of the wedding, between everything she was coordinating and the multiple vendors on-site, she somehow still found time to check in with us to make sure we were okay. But honestly we truly felt at ease with Sandra running the show. Her professionalism, calmness, and get-it-done attitude made every part of the weeknd run seamlessly! And on top of it all, she made our marriage official by signing our marriage license. :) A total bonus that she is ordained and a special memory to share with her as she was such a big part of our special day! Our guests are still talking about how magical the weekend was. Many specifically commented that even with so many events and activities going on, it was one the most well-coordinated and organized weddings they'd attended. It was definitely a huge effort to pull off a 3 day wedding weekend on a 500 acre camp, but teamwork truly made this dream work! We could not be more grateful to Sandra, her team, and all of our amazing vendors for giving us a wedding better than we could have ever imagined! We can't recommend Sandra and HVC enough.

It's all such a whirlwind of activity. And the logistics at our farm were challenging, to say the least. I also greatly appreciated how, during the actual wedding and party afterward, Sandra and her assistant were there, in the background, keeping the caterer happy, moving tables, shuttling slightly inebriated guests to their cars, (thank you, especially for that. I think I would still find people walking the horse pasture fence, looking for their cars.) And for doing the behind-the-scenes things that rarely are noticed, unless they're not done. (For example, one of the porta potties malfunctioning). Sandra handled that with quiet speed. And mostly I appreciated how she took care of Amanda's mother's doilies, the family mementoes, tucking things away in the pool house for safe keeping. And for a good, general tidying up at the end of the night.
