So relaxing! From the retro lobby to the sparkling pool, Silvanus Lodge is a haven. Steele has put so much of himself into this property, and it shows. He makes every guest feel taken care of in a very genuine way. I'll be back!

What a surprisingly fantastic few days--Steele takes impeccable care of the lodge, the grounds are glorious

The room was cute with some very nice touches - a decorative chest with extra blankets topped with a welcome candy; extremely plush bathrobes and a first rate hair dryer. It felt like some care went into the planning. Which made the downsides quite surprising. They are as follows -Leftover bottles, half-consumed - in our fridge from what I assume were the last guests. -The breakfast pastries were truly abysmal. Croissants so hard and tasteless that we could not eat them. I understand continental means light however some granola and pastries that didn't feel like bricks would have been nice. Very odd as brunch the day before was so good. We bailed immediately an went instead down the road to Mom's Country Cafe. -Dinner not nearly as impressive as brunch. I had read the negative reviews about the service but most seemed to be from a Thanksgiving debacle last year so assumed things had improved. The one waiter (for what looked to be at least 25 diners) was working his tail off and truly did the best he could in am impossible situation. Why they did not learn from the Thanksgiving experience is hard to understand. But kudos to the waiter for juggling this with a smile. Our wheatberry salads were ok - passable but nothing special. -Inconsistencies in the check in process as well. Check in is at 4. We arrived around 1 and were told by the young woman at the desk to wait till at least 3:30 which was fine but felt odd as it seemed like there was hardly anyone else staying there. They do offer early check in for $50 which IMO is ridiculous and unwelcoming. We went for a hike and returned around 3. The now gentleman at the desk told us our room was ready. In fact he said "the text letting us know how to access our room key is our signal that the room is ready." Interesting because I received that text at 1pm. The staff is friendly for the most part though front desk staff exuded some false sincerity and it seemed like our questions were a bit of an annoyance.

The sconces and head board were cute and they have a nice little basic TV. Also the porch outside the room was nice to have so that you didn't feel as if you were trapped in a room.... Ok now the not so good is the shower and bathroom---- it's clean and new so that's GOOD. It's just the design - no one wants to touch fabric/ vinyl shower curtains , the floor is grey so it has a prison feel and the whole bathroom looks like they got them off the shelves of Home Depot or Lowe's . Not my cup of tea... feels cheap and not comfortable ;( I really disliked the bathroom situation and the towels, while new, were designed with freying edges . Which made them feel dingy ;( I won't come back but if you are in a pinch and there is no place else to go you won't be disappointed .. just know what to expect.......... If the owners are reading this... please take cues from other boutique hotels in the Hudson area. Make it cute - use better products-- use tile and glass and upgrade the place.... Also don't wallpaper the place yourselves, it shows ..... the place looks like it will fall apart in a year or two ;(

The only minus is all the seating with cushions could use a good deep steam cleaning. Everything else was All Plus's! Three of us were staying in a room. So it was a bit crowded. The room was beautiful! The drinks in the refrigerator (different types of iced teas) were complimentary. Plus they had the real nice coffee maker - The Nespresso. Breakfast was also included and you went to the onsite cafe- provided your room number and we were all set. Right outside our room was two chairs in a table for enjoying outside. We got unlucky with weather our 2nd and final day / night were downpours. But The White Hart had Monopoly so that took up three hours of our time. If we would have gotten better weather they have a front lawn with many chairs and corn hole. Along with deck all around the hotel for playing board games or cards Hope we get to visit again soon!

ORIGIN: Hart is an old English word for a mature male deer,…read moreand a white hart is prominently represented in English folklore. The White Hart itself has some history. The building dates back to 1806, with use as an inn soon thereafter. LOCATION: The White Hart is located in the center of Salisbury, as for centuries, a great place to stop when crossing New England. The town and its surroundings are also worthy of being the destination, as there are many natural attractions, as well as cultural institutions in the vicinity. CONCEPT: Today the White Hart welcomes travelers and local residents alike, with sixteen rooms, two restaurants, a wide porch, and ballroom. There is something for everyone. EXPERIENCE: The White Hart has artwork scattered across the building. As I waited for a garden fundraiser and talk to begin, I walked through the entrance floor and marveled at the variety and number of prints on the walls. A reception was arranged in the bar/lounge area next to the ballroom. Many thoughtful details could be found in the cheese board display. Most unique and striking was the use of a vase of forsythia branches to cast dappled light on the table.

Super helpful, creative eye and always available for advice. The rooms were so beautifully decorated. All set with the cutest fridge and snack station with everything you'd ever want. The bathroom was super well lit and also decorated so uniquely. The Alander is located in the center of a ton of activities and super close to the Berkshires. Also a lot of great hikes available. They also have a gorgeous firepit that we took advantage of at night. Not to mention their restaurant - The North Star. Delicious and convenient. I would absolutely stay here again and have already brought it up to family. Put The Alander on your list!

For check in, they send you a code to use on the electronic key pad. We had booked two rooms. Got code for one room. Tried to call them as there is no reception, got VM. There was a message that AFTER you enter the room there is a phone number to call so we did call from the one room we could access and it went to the same VM. We waited till there was someone at the restaurant and she was able to call the mystery people from this hotel and get our second room code. The bathtub was filthy. The ceiling had spots. See photos. And we were treated to an amazing jazz band on Friday night! No front desk everything is handled by text it call and that worked just fine for us. Very responsive and helpful. The property is beautiful - plenty of hiking and walking trails. Great locations and amazing views. Do not overlook the stagecoach tavern in the property for dinners- I'll review that separately. Breakfasts were amazing and the same superior quality as the restaurant. Best food we have had in a long time. Booking/ pricing/ management: We stayed a night at the Race Brook Lodge to see a concert a little while ago. At first glance, a stay here looks a little pricey based on what you appear to be getting. In my head, $200 for a small room in a converted barn is steep. When I went to book it, I was asked to select a "package." There was one advertising a nights stay, a three course dinner in the Stagecoach Tavern, and breakfast the next day for $185. I thought since dinner and breakfast were included, that wasn't such a bad deal after all. Total cost after taxes and fees when I hit the purchase button: $201 Imagine my surprise when I got my confirmation email and took a look at the receipt- $309. I quickly looked at my credit card statement, sure enough- $309. I sent them an email immediately asking what was up with the extra $108. Crickets. Oh well, I figured I could just hash it out with them when we got there. I came to find out that there is no front desk, and everything is handled over text messages, so that made it a little more difficult. When the time came to check out, I got a text asking me to click a link to view my "balance." I clicked it and discovered that they were attempting to charge me another $92. At this point I sent them another email and told them that this felt like a scam, and that I would be disputing the charges with my credit card. They responded right away saying that there was a miscommunication, the "package" was actually separate from the room charge and that they were supposed to let me know of that right after I booked, but someone dropped the ball. They did eventually honor the original $201 price that I was quoted, but if I hadn't noticed the discrepancy or been firm about fixing it, I can't imagine they would have refunded it by themselves. Sidenote: when looking closely at the dinner/breakfast package pricing- it's an absolute ripoff. "Package" dinner: $150 Meals Tax: $10.50 Billed gratuity: $24.00 All in- $184.50. For ONE person. For dinner and a middle of the road buffet breakfast? The "three course dinner" allows you to pick any starter, entree, and dessert from the restaurant menu. If you picked the three most expensive items in each category, it would be $104. Plus a $15 breakfast, you're still not even in the neighborhood of $150. I suppose selecting the meal package bestows on you the honor of donating an extra $31 to the owners of the lodge. Great deal! The Room: We were happy enough with our room. It was nothing special, but it had air conditioning, hot water, and it was clean: really my only three boxes that need to be checked by a hotel. The photos on their website appear to be from 2017, which made me a little weary, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the room actually looked better in person. We stayed in the Hayloft #7 room. The concert in the barn: The concert we saw was EXCELLENT. The barn is an amazing venue for a small show like the one we saw. Everyone was giving each other a respectful amount of space, and there truly was not a bad view to be found anywhere. It was hot inside the night we were there, but when it gets to be a little much, you can just step outside, grab a glass of water and some fresh air, and come back in and still have an amazing view of the show. As far as concert venues go, it doesn't get much better than that. All in all, I can't recommend staying here. I'd go see another show in a heartbeat, but would look elsewhere for accommodations. Our time at the lodge was pleasant enough, but the funny business with their pricing left a really bad taste in my mouth. At my most charitable- I'd say it's bad bang for your buck. At worst, the pricing is intentionally ambiguous.
