What a gem of a place. We were looking for someplace rustic yet refined- and this was the perfect blend of both. Perfect weekend getaway. And we were treated to an amazing jazz band on Friday night! No front desk everything is handled by text it call and that worked just fine for us. Very responsive and helpful. The rooms do not have TVs or mini fridges- but you aren't here anyhow to watch TV. Really comfortable bed and perfect for a peaceful nights slumber. The property is beautiful - plenty of hiking and walking trails. Great locations and amazing views. Do not overlook the stagecoach tavern in the property for dinners- I'll review that separately. Breakfasts were amazing and the same superior quality as the restaurant. Best food we have had in a long time. The staff is more than happy to accommodate you in the private sauna or an outside fire with smores! Looking forward to our next trip here. read more

Buyer beware! I'll break this review up into three parts because there are a lot of moving parts here. Booking/ pricing/ management: We stayed a night at the Race Brook Lodge to see a concert a little while ago. At first glance, a stay here looks a little pricey based on what you appear to be getting. In my head, $200 for a small room in a converted barn is steep. When I went to book it, I was asked to select a "package." There was one advertising a nights stay, a three course dinner in the Stagecoach Tavern, and breakfast the next day for $185. I thought since dinner and breakfast were included, that wasn't such a bad deal after all. Total cost after taxes and fees when I hit the purchase button: $201 Imagine my surprise when I got my confirmation email and took a look at the receipt- $309. I quickly looked at my credit card statement, sure enough- $309. I sent them an email immediately asking what was up with the extra $108. Crickets. Oh well, I figured I could just hash it out with them when we got there. I came to find out that there is no front desk, and everything is handled over text messages, so that made it a little more difficult. When the time came to check out, I got a text asking me to click a link to view my "balance." I clicked it and discovered that they were attempting to charge me another $92. At this point I sent them another email and told them that this felt like a scam, and that I would be disputing the charges with my credit card. They responded right away saying that there was a miscommunication, the "package" was actually separate from the room charge and that they were supposed to let me know of that right after I booked, but someone dropped the ball. They did eventually honor the original $201 price that I was quoted, but if I hadn't noticed the discrepancy or been firm about fixing it, I can't imagine they would have refunded it by themselves. Sidenote: when looking closely at the dinner/breakfast package pricing- it's an absolute ripoff. "Package" dinner: $150 Meals Tax: $10.50 Billed gratuity: $24.00 All in- $184.50. For ONE person. For dinner and a middle of the road buffet breakfast? The "three course dinner" allows you to pick any starter, entree, and dessert from the restaurant menu. If you picked the three most expensive items in each category, it would be $104. Plus a $15 breakfast, you're still not even in the neighborhood of $150. I suppose selecting the meal package bestows on you the honor of donating an extra $31 to the owners of the lodge. Great deal! The Room: We were happy enough with our room. It was nothing special, but it had air conditioning, hot water, and it was clean: really my only three boxes that need to be checked by a hotel. The photos on their website appear to be from 2017, which made me a little weary, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the room actually looked better in person. We stayed in the Hayloft #7 room. The concert in the barn: The concert we saw was EXCELLENT. The barn is an amazing venue for a small show like the one we saw. Everyone was giving each other a respectful amount of space, and there truly was not a bad view to be found anywhere. It was hot inside the night we were there, but when it gets to be a little much, you can just step outside, grab a glass of water and some fresh air, and come back in and still have an amazing view of the show. As far as concert venues go, it doesn't get much better than that. All in all, I can't recommend staying here. I'd go see another show in a heartbeat, but would look elsewhere for accommodations. Our time at the lodge was pleasant enough, but the funny business with their pricing left a really bad taste in my mouth. At my most charitable- I'd say it's bad bang for your buck. At worst, the pricing is intentionally ambiguous. read more

The accommodations were wonderful. We stayed in the main lodge, room 8. It was decorated with beautiful prints and eclectic objects. The bed was king sized with a good quality mattress and clean sheets, bedding and pillows. The shared living spaces included a full kitchen, lounge, bar and 1/2 bath. The atmosphere was whimsical with interesting artwork and carved objects from around the world. Peaceful vibe! The grounds have running brooks, several fire pits, hammocks and furniture nooks to sit and relax to while away the hours in nature. You can hike to a summit with stunning views! There is a very clean in-ground pool to enjoy. Top off your stay with a 5 star meal in the Tavern. No disappointments and a very attentive staff. We will definitely go back and bring friends and family to enjoy the experience! read more

It conforms to its landscape, its botanical variety and place in the Berkshirelandscape, especially for those who apprecoate the Taconic range. The people who work there were all know how to make this work, and are very much part of the place. Our room was very clean, and it seems that each room.is unique. There was a welcoming children's playroom, and the property hasany indoor and outdoor places.to.rest and enjoy the setting. The covered breakfast patio was as charming as the dining hall.Incredibly, Vieix Farka Touré was playing there this week. An odd place. I wanted to like it more- I enjoy rustic cabins and natural settings. However this was run-down, and the unidentified junk lying around was unattractive- like bohemian junkyard. It looked forlorn. The buildings don't appear to be well maintained. The brook is dry for most of the year so there is no babbling brook, and it was too expensive for what you get. The bed was hard as a rock-very uncomfortable- and the pillows were like lumber. The furnishings, if you care about that sort of thing, was like stuff that you find at the curb in most towns. Stained, mis-matched crappy looking stuff- I think that's what they mean by eclectic. Other reviewers mention the warm reception, the buffet breakfast etc. There is no reception in 2024. There is no check-in desk whatsoever. Everything is done by text message and I wouldn't know who works there and who doesn't. No one identified themselves. The breakfast is an extra $15. Not ready on time. Coffee was cold. Good muffins. No amenities that most hotels have like hair dryers, refrigerators, TV's and all that. No air or hair conditioner either. I have stayed in many places for much less money that offered breakfast and actually seemed to want you to enjoy yourself. They seem to think that they are doing you a favor by letting you stay there. No room service- but you can pay $50 to have the room cleaned? And the "complimentary" small breakfast of not- ready- on- time (cold) coffee, tea, toast, muffins- you have a choice of toast- a half slice- or half a muffin. Beyond that one per person it is $2 each for the other half of a piece of toast or the other half of your muffin. That's their hospitality? There are better breakfasts and softer mattresses and comfy pillows elsewhere for a lot less than $180. I think they need a manager to tighten things up in terms of the way the place looks, their attitude, and the amenities offered. read more

I had driven by this place so many times heading to see some family. Loved the look and charm driving by. Ghen we went to stay and it was better than expected. so charming and simple, friendly with so much to offer. They are about to undertake a big renovation which will be great. Stayed just one night & already planning our next visit...planned a quick getaway to the falls & luckily chose this gem..friendly, super helpful staff, gorgeous sprawling grounds, amenities & yummy food. Had a crazy heatwave & gave up halfway to the falls but luckily you can spend your time cool in the pool, games on the porch, napping in a hammock or watch a meteor shower while sipping a cocktail fireside with Ten playing guitar (probably my favorite). We have stayed here twice now, and there is a friendly and relaxing vibe about the place. Every person who works there was friendly and helpful. If I needed something or had a question, a quick text had it sorted. We like to start our day on the Race Brook trail before a delicious breakfast (they tell you where everything is from) and end the day sitting at one of the many little spots they have set up around the yard. Everywhere you go there is an inviting table or a rustic bench or some other spot for sitting and chatting or just enjoying the surroundings. I came up with from Brooklyn with my husband who is a wedding photographer. I wanted to show him around the area where I used to camp as a kid because I think the Berkshires are perfect for weddings. I chose the Race Brook Lodge based on other reviews. Let me say- I am not disappointed. This place is better than I anticipated. It is like going to a camp for adults or families. Hiking, swimming pool, a cozy place for coffee and breakfast, meeting places for groups, hammocks, fire pits, peace and silence....etc The best thing about it is that visitors here seem to be repeat customers and are extremely friendly and kind. People respect the serenity of the place but are also extremely open to conversation. This place seems to self-select for open-minded, nature loving, low key people who love nature, wellness, good food, and good energy. The Stage Coach restaurant has amazing food and a colonial, candlelit atmosphere. I hope this place stays in business for a long time for many generations to enjoy the simple, beautiful life of this area. read more

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Stagecoach Inn 40 years ago and came back to the Race Brook Lodge (as it is now called) for a nostalgic anniversary getaway. The beautiful setting hasn't changed, and it has retained its colonial rustic charm away from the more tourist-infested towns in the Berkshires. Not surprisingly after 40 years new owners have brought a new "vibe" to the Lodge as a jazz venue with an offbeat communal atmosphere, quirky common spaces, and a roaming rooster and chickens: what the Berkshire Magazine defines as "Bohemian Boutique". The property has an assortment of rustic buildings and curious structures, firepits, and tables for outdoor dining. The guest rooms are furnished with eclectic homespun antiques; where one expects a wall-size TV screen opposite the bed, there hangs instead a tapestry. As we were there Sunday afternoon through Tuesday, we missed the regular musical events (and crowds) so it was for us a perfect quiet retreat. We hiked from the lodge along the Race Brook, bought food from a local farm and picnicked in a bower/gazebo outside the lodge by the side of the brook. Our package included an exquisite dinner at the Stagecoach Tavern, one of the gourmet gems of the Berkshires. The staff are friendly, and low-keyed. It makes for a charming and very reasonably priced getaway, even if you're not there for the music. read more

Race Brook Lodge & StageCoach Tavern We came to this cozy and charming rustic getaway to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. It was perfect: Delicious coffee and homemade muffins on the porch by the fire, hiking the Race Brook trail to the falls, skiing at Catamount, warming up in the Sauna, gourmet dinners with red wine in the tavern's private dining rooms & staying up late playing Uno! The staff were beyond gracious and kind and the COVID safety measures were unobtrusive and reassuring. We will be back for my birthday in February! Hugely enjoined visiting this charming lodge for a wedding. Beautiful and comfortable, with a super cozy feel. I wish I could have spent a week longer, hiking up theirs trails, lounging by one of the fire pits, playing with my boys in the little playhouse and playground. The staff were really nice and hospitable, happy to offer info about the area and history. If I didn't live on the other side of the country, I'd have booked a cabin for a stay sometime very soon! I hate giving one-star reviews, but in this case it's the only option. We booked a room for two adults and two kids for $275, and were given a small room with three beds pushed together in a dingy outbuilding behind the main lodge--a room with a non-functioning air conditioner, which was so damp they had to bring in a dehumidifier. The property is well-maintained in front, but at the back is almost falling apart--the most visible feature is a large maintenance shed. The continental breakfast, too, is unacceptable--a continental breakfast is supposed to include baked goods, and the only ones on offer were tiny muffins like you'd buy at a supermarket. It's just not a place I would recommend to anyone. read more

We stayed overnight on a brisk October night with the comforting sound of the Brook right outside our door. We had an exceptional dinner prepared and served by wonderful staff. The deserts were amazing - the ingredients were so thought out (Rose water and lavender.) yum! The dinner space we had was tucked away. The music choice was so relaxing. I can't remember the last time we had such a lovely experience. We sat out front at the fire pit for a while after dinner. That was a nice little space as well - surrounded by beautiful trees and gorgeous flowers. We went for an evening stroll to enjoy all the lights in the trees and found a little hang out spot made from an old shed - so we lounged outside listening to an owl hoot off in the distance. Our room was very comfortable. It was nice to just relax with a magazine and chat. It was the most relaxing sleep we had in a long time! We will be back! read more

The perfect winter weekend getaway! Race Brook Lodge is cozy on even the coldest of nights. Enjoy a book or a board game by the fireplace and sip tea or coffee with family and friends. Everyone is very warm and welcoming. You will feel at home in any of their rooms. I hiked up the nearby trail to get to the waterfall where it is even more peaceful with beautiful views. If you are someone that really dislikes the sterility of corporate hotels and long for something that feels more like a super comfy (and plush) cabin in the woods, you will love Race Brook Lodge. My company hosted a retreat at the lodge and it was perfect, with plenty of spaces to work and relax, coupled with clean beautiful rooms and luxurious beds. We were here when it was snowing so didn't get to experience the farm and gardens, but the little stream running through in the snowy landscape is idyllic! read more

When my husband and I began talking about where we wanted to get married we decided a few things off the bat. We wanted somewhere that provided a beautiful natural setting, a place where most of our friends and family could stay, and a venue where we could host an entire weekend-long experience. With Race Brook Lodge, we got all of that and so much more. I couldn't have imagined every detail coming together as perfectly as it did. Eve and Craig are truly exceptional, they were so instrumental in helping guide us to find the right vendors and the right mix of elements that made our wedding weekend so successful and so perfectly us. They were so helpful every step of the way, always calm and gracious and really knew exactly what worked and what didn't. I can't say enough good things about working with them. Our friends and family could not stop raving about how it was one of the most fun, unique weddings they had ever been to, and certainly the best food. For us, every detail throughout the weekend made it feel special--Friday night dinner on the porch, the local gypsy jazz band, the florist who brought in trees from the woods to decorate the barn, the morning hike to Race Brook Falls, communal breakfasts in the lodge and certainly the late night campfires. Getting married by the brook with all of our friends and family was everything we could have ever imagined, and we will forever be so grateful to Race Brook Lodge for all of their hospitality. We couldn't have hoped for a more wonderful place for our wedding weekend. Over the 9 months we spent planning, we visited Race Brook several times and stayed in a different room each time, each with it's own unique personality and coziness. The dinner at the Stage Coach Tavern was always exceptional, and we loved getting to know Dave and Casey as well as Eve and Craig. I stayed last night in one of the cabins very cute and cozy very rustic quiet feel which I loved! Staff was beyond amazing and very friendly to help me with anything. The dinner was delicious as well the dinner took a little longer then expected to get but the wait staff went out there way to make sure we were satifisied and gave us all our drinks for free. I felt so relaxed with the it being so laid back and just laying in a hammock and listening to nature. Highly recommend if you want a quiet relaxed weekend with good food come stay here! read more

Last weekend I married the love of my life in the most magical place in the northeast. We had around 70 guests from as close as WMASS and as far away as Germany and London. The weekend was full of love, laughter, a babbling brook, campfires every night, hiking up to the waterfall, lounging around on the hammocks, amazing food, amazing people, and the most beautiful weather I could have asked for. Thinking back on last weekend - there is not one thing I would have changed - and I am so thankful that I found the RB Lodge. One of the things that I was most worried about in planning a weekend wedding was the wildcard element of, "will people mix and do their own thing ... because i'm afraid to overbook with activities".... and I really think that the atmosphere of the Race Brook Lodge made it happen. I have friends who never met before that weekend calling each other - inviting each other to their own weddings... setting dinner dates together... and planning vacations together! All we had to do to make it happen was set up a few yard games (cornhole, soccer) and set out a cooler of beers - and the RBL made the magic happen. Eve and Craig were fantastic and patient with my fiance (now husband) and I as we got all of the details together and went back and forth on room assignments, catering choices, wine selections, everything! They were amazing throughout the entire event - always there when we needed help or had a question - and even told my mom to stop cleaning up so much at a few points so she would enjoy herself and relax! The rest of the crew were awesome too. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the yard and rooms are all just gorgeous. Jay was an awesome chef for the reception dinner - my husband and I really wanted to have a lamb dish - but it wasn't on the menu - and he made us a plate at the tasting that was out of this world... and at the same price point. Also we were craving some seasonal sugar snap peas and he made that happen too! No joke - if you're on the fence about having a weekend wedding - shoot me a message on Yelp and ask me anything you'd like. People can't stop telling me that it was the best wedding ever. :).
