Small towns aren't always known for places that make you feel like you've had a night out. Canaan is charming, sure... but Railroad Street isn't exactly Times Square. And then there's Industry Kitchen. Somehow this place manages to feel completely at home in town while also giving you the vibe that you've stumbled into a great little spot in a much bigger food scene. It's warm, lively, and the kind of place where you walk in thinking "quick bite" and leave two hours later wondering why you don't come more often. The food has gotten better and better over the years, which is saying something because it started strong. The menu now hits that sweet spot where there's truly something for everyone -- great apps, excellent burgers and comfort food, and rotating entrees and specials that actually feel thoughtful instead of like menu filler. On our last visit we rolled in later than the normal dinner rush after a school event. No problem. We shared some of their reimagined flatbreads, a salad, and a few apps and it was exactly what we needed. The wings are fantastic. The bang bang shrimp might require a moment of silence. And the flatbreads are the kind of thing you order "for the table" and then quietly hope no one else notices the last slice. If you've been thinking about trying Industry Kitchen but haven't yet, go. It delivers way more than you'd expect from a quiet little corner of Railroad Street. And if you already go? Go more often. Canaan is lucky to have this place. And your dinner plans should probably involve it. I'm looking forward to trying more of their new pasta creations. P.S. Pro tip: ask them to double cut your flatbread. NOPE. JUST NO. Don't come here. 1. The food was seemed microwaved and still took almost an hour. 2. It was 12:30. They opened at noon on a Sunday. AND We had to go the booth into the back of the restaurant to get our server twice! To ask where our drinks were after we order them and 25 minutes goes by for two sodas and we never saw him come back. It was empty. We were the only people in the dining room. There were three men who were sitting at the bar and had a bartender to service them. Before we left two other couples came in and had the exact same experience as us. One of the other couples had to ask where their food was twice and the couple sitting behind us never got drinks so this is obviously an issue they faced on a regular basis. I don't recommend coming here, not for the food, not for the service, not for anything. read more

CONCEPT: Owner Festim Arjo wanted Industry Kitchen & Bar to be an attractive setting that offered a wide range of dishes. Since the restaurant opened in 2020 the menu has changed in response to what has been most popular. ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant has a menu that is great for both lunch and dinner and the interior -- a mix of warm woods, reflective metal, and golden light -- offers an attractive and relaxing setting. The interior of Industry Kitchen & Bar has two separate dining areas -- one next to the bar with a long high top table, and another separated by a brick wall with cafe and upholstered banquette seating. This arrangement makes Industry Kitchen & Bar a good dining destination for young families, as well as a spot for adults to gather and sip craft beers. EXPERIENCE: On my first visit I was surprised to find the variety of options, including lobster roll and cheesesteak. Each visit suggests all dishes are well prepared and presented. A favorite of mine has been the Classic Reuben sandwich served with French Fries. The proportion of the sandwich's components are spot on to me. This was one of those pleasant surprise spots that needed to be on the map! We went out for an afternoon drive when our tummies got a little hungry. We searched for the closest restaurant and found this gem. Warm, friendly, and welcoming staff gave us a table right away. The atmosphere, as the business name suggests has an industrial vibe to it with modern touches. It was very clean and fresh-looking too. The menu was expansive with all the usual pub and grill fare. Plenty of beer, wine, and cocktail selections as well. Service was prompt, kitchen pumped out some very hot food reasonably fast. I had the 'chickfila-wrap' and I substituted onion rings. The wrap was great, the chicken was tasty and fresh. The onion rings were perfectly crispy in fresh oil and they gave you a good amount. My girlfriend had the mac and cheese entree and was very satisfied. She gave me a taste and I found it to be very rich and cheesy and the breadcrumbs on it were yummy. The mac and cheese was right out of the broiler I think, as it was 14,000 degrees and melted my tongue (that's a compliment and not a complaint). In summary, find this place if you're coming through Northwest CT as there aren't too many good spots in the region. I'm convinced you'll be satisfied. Parking is a squeeze though. Well, very disappointed! The fact that we order from the online menu and the prices were different when we place the order and then there was no compensation to meet in the middle! How can you have an online website with incorrect prices and not compensate? And that being said we ordered a 14 piece wings and we only got four wings. The rest were legs if you're ordering something like that wouldn't you do half-and-half? And all three subs and I have a picture of mine barely had any meat on them. I had more bread than I had meat. And with all my order was $94 with the correct prices with the incorrect prices I would've paid $78. And there was nothing said about meeting in between. No one could help me. I left my name and number for a manager to call back but no one did. So I'm out $75. Update: the manager called and had voided the sale. A busy Thursday evening in this welcoming pub-type eatery; got a good table. Very nice waitress took our order promptly -- but waited quite a while for the burger and fish & chips (no photos as we were hungry). Meals served on trays were heaping, with fries that could feed an army! Only could get through one-third and told the waitress will be asking for a half portion next time. I'm a little surprised to see a place this modern in Canaan, CT. It's a good thing, and I hope it maintains. They are located next to a community parking lot, and street parking is also available. The immediate interior is the bar, and on the left a dining room with a mixture of booths and tables. Wood is dominant. The menu is fairly standard for a bar (burgers, sandwiches, Mac and cheese, etc), but the food itself is pretty tasty. I will note the spinach and artichoke dip is undersalted, or could at least use dipping chips with salt on them. The appetizer meatballs also have the full NOLA trinity present, and if you have texture issues they are very present. The Farmers Burger was huge, the egg yolk was solid, but the thousand island dressing provided enough liquid to replace the need for ketchup. I was here a few weeks back and really hesitated about posting a review, but I feel I need to. The only good thing about this place was our waitress, a very kind woman who seemed completely embarrassed by the amount of time it took to get our food. I can't even remember how many times she apologized. It was too many to count. There were only two other couples in the entire restaurant and it took over an hour to just to get the appetizer. The food was not worth waiting an hour for. It was the absolute worst French onion soup I've ever had in my entire life. And I'm not exaggerating. No flavor. Pallid broth. Sour cheese on top. I couldn't even eat it. I didn't have the heart to tell the waitress so I actually took it home and threw it in the garbage. My main course was no better. I ordered a Greek salad. The salad came to the table with the biggest piece of feta cheese I've ever seen in my life just sitting unceremoniously on top of my lettuce. They didn't even try to crumble it. It was literally a giant slab. I could've fed three people with it. Parts of the lettuce were rotten and the dressing was completely forgettable. My partner's main course was a joke. It was supposed to be a fish taco. It was literally a frozen fish fillet in batter heated up, and folded between a giant flour tortilla with one or two little strands of cabbage or something pretending to be cabbage. I wish I had a photo of it. Our appetizer was basically fried mozzarella, and when it was brought out to us, it was swimming in a giant bowl of red sauce. You literally had to look for the mozzarella. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is, I would definitely not recommend going here. Save your money and go to an actual restaurant with an actual chef who actually knows how to cook actual food. Not just run a microwave. Terrible experience will never go back. Honestly will not be returning here, EVER. We used to love this place. We ordered some meatballs while waiting for our friends to arrive. One meatball was cooked perfectly (but tasted super weird), while the other was bright pink/red raw meat inside. We sent it back, and 5 minutes later the owner comes over to explain to us that "that's the way it's supposed to be"... and continued on about how he wouldn't jeopardize his business sending out raw meat. Okay, if that's true then why was the other meatball cooked perfect inside? He said he had it sitting under the heat lamp in the back if we still wanted it. We said no, but we were still charged for them. The whole interaction made us feel like we were assholes for not wanting these meatballs. The whole interaction left a worse taste in our mouth than the meatballs did. The drinks take an unbelievable amount of time to arrive, and we only ordered draft beer not cocktails. Then the "boneless wings" (which we've had before when there) were literally McDonalds Chicken Nuggets tossed in sauce. They never used to be like this. It's the only thing I took a picture of because I was baffled. $14 for seven chicken nuggets. If a restaurant is going to cut corners it shouldn't be this obvious to the customer. I would've rather had Applebees, and paid half the amount. My best friend ordered the French Onion soup, and her bread was burnt under the cheese. Soggy burnt bread. Not good. Twice we have ordered take out from Industry. Twice we have been disappointed with the service. Although the food is ok, and it is a nice change from pizza or Chinese food. The first time we ordered, it took over an hour for the food to be ready, but they were busy... so ok... but when we actually got the order home, it was missing 1 whole meal and 2 sides (that we were upcharge for). So, my husband went back, and had to wait another 1/2 hour to get the missing items, with no apology! The last time we ordered, it was over an hour wait after the time given for the pickup. All the employees seem to hide, so you are not able to even ask for an update on the status. You are left to stand awkwardly by the door while waiting for your order. For the prices they charge, you would expect better service. REALLY REALLY DISAPPOINTED. read more

We were in search of a good burger. Decided to give Industry a try. The ambiance was nice. The Bavarian pretzel was tasty. The Moscow Mule was terrible (4 parts vodka plus ice and a splash of flat ginger ale does not make a mule). But what gets the 1 star rating is the side of food poisoning that my wife didn't order. She had the burger and fries. No beverage. When we got home our dog smelled the leftovers and said no thank you. An hour later my wife was feeling ill and spent the night in the bathroom. I had the Mule, so I guess the 4 parts of vodka saved me. My recommendation is if you're going to try the food, order a strong beverage. read more

Will not be back. We went last night. We tried to give our young gentlemen server wiggle room since he looked new to the job. Even acknowledging that he was awful. More worried about resetting tables then helping customers who are trying to get his attention. The apps came out quickly but once finished it took a while for the server to pick up the empty plates. Once again had to flag him down to take them. the main meal took an hour to come out. Other tables got their meals before us yet they were sat after us. We ordered chicken Marsala and chicken Fransee. The chef said they were backed up with apps from the bar. But waiting and hour for main meals when other tables with apps got their main meals before us? It made no sense. At that point I just wanted to pack up my food and leave. Then tried to give us a free round of alcoholic drinks. We weren't drinking. All we had was soda. So between bad service and long wait time. We had to pay for everything. The steak, mashed potatoes, asparagus were perfectly cooked. The spicy cocktail that I had was one of the best cocktails I've had in the past year. Maybe the best. I want to give this place more- but I can't. All 3 stars go to the bartender, and ( unfortunately zero for boh). Bartender was nice, checked in with me throughout- without being overly attentive, and generally made the experience more worthwhile. The atmosphere is good, nice, with zero pretensions. I wish the food was as better. My fries were soggy, and my "crab cake" sandwich had carrots in it(can't stretch crab with carrots, that's the truth). It was also cool ( not cold- but cool to the touch) when I cut it in half.My advice to BOH would be : don't serve till your fryers are hot. Fennel slaw Is on too many offerings. Get rid of the crab cake. I want to see this restaurant stay. Great atmosphere, great FOH experience ( for me) , and it's a local establishment. I've been in and out of kitchens for 20+ years and while my food experience wasn't great, we all have off days. I genuinely want to see this place succeed. This restaurant can do better. My husband and I have had some great things here, and some awful. Unfortunately, the bad outweighs the good. One time my husband and I both ordered burgers, medium. My husband's came out raw. Inedible. When he went to send it back the owner (our waiter) argued with him that that is what a burger should be. My husband let the argument go, and asked for a pink burger that is warm inside. He did return with a newly made burger, pink on the inside. After witnessing how argumentative the owner was, I choose not to send mine back. It was a little better than my husband's and I thought I could handle it. I ate half. I paid for that decision later in the evening when I couldn't leave the toliet for a few hours. What is so disappointing is that we have had very good burgers here before. We hoped it was an "off night" but the way the owner handled it was not making us feel any better. Another time we went to "taco night" which included a special taco and half price margaritas. The tacos on the menu were $5 more than their standard taco prices and you didn't get anything extra. Just three tacos, no sides, nothing. The margarita was so weak, which I was surprised because the bartender had been pretty good on previous occasions. I want to like the restaurant. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is good. The hours are better than most nearby restaurants and the drinks menu is typically ok. However the chef needs to get it together. You need consistent food that is hot, crispy and cooked to health code standards. Limp fries, cold calamari, dry chicken and uncooked burgers is not acceptable. If the menu is too complicated then make it a bit easier. This town wants good food over fancy and we definitely don't want to get sick! read more

My husband grew up in Canaan and we make a trip there several times as we love the area and the town. He had wanted to try the Industry Kitchen which we did late afternoon yesterday. First the atmosphere is very nice- modern and fun. We were greeted as soon as we walked in by a friendly young woman and our drinks came quickly. Unfortunately that's where everything changed- we ordered a burger and a wrap. Service was very very slow. So much so that we thought they lost our order. And it was not crowded at all. When the food came, no apologies for the long wait. Burger was over done and the chicken wrap was just ok. Chicken was advertised as chick fila but not really. Fries were good. At no time during the meal were we ever checked on to see if all as ok. And typically when that happens I never blame the waiter or waitress if it's crowded. It was not crowded at all. We truly wanted to like this restaurant but we won't be driving an hour for a meal here again. Sorry cannot recommend. read more

Very cool place in a town that needed this kind of restaurant/bar. We had reservations for 7pm and had to wait until about 7:15 to be seated, but that was ok because we had drinks by the bar. When we were seated, our waiter Christian, came right over and he was awesome. He was attentive, fun, and got every order right throughout the night. As you can see in the pictures, the food portions were generous and the presentation was appealing, which is important to me when I go out. I would have given this a 5 star review but my teriyaki children came out about 10 min after everyone else's meal. Sadly it was lukewarm and the chicken was a bit dry but with that being said, it was very flavorful so I ate THE ENTIRE MEAL. I also taste-tested the other meals and they were delicious. The chili was amazing, the beet salad was huge with a delicious dressing, and the fish tacos were awesome. We will definitely visit again and will request to have Christian as our waiter. read more

I come to Industry Kitchen on the regular when I'm in the Berkshires. Can't say I've ever had a bad meal or appetizer here ever. You definitely won't find another place like this in Canaan, Connecticut. Cocktails are pretty well crafted and their menu items are genuinely very good and made to order. Bar Pretzel, Truffle Fries, Boneless Buffalo Wings and their Burgers are particular winners. Staff is super friendly. read more
