We were so happy to find Chef Linda/Grounded who share our values around local and seasonal food! Beyond our shared values, Linda and her crew (everyone who worked the wedding AND her office manager, Danielle) blew us away with the delicious food, presentation and service. Excellence all around. We chose Grounded for our wedding catering at the end of an exhaustive search. Then we basically gave them a tent on the flat side of a hill to cook in, so further kudos for Linda's detail and high quality to be maintained in our DIY scenario. There are some people in the food industry who just care a bit more about real food, and Linda is one of those people. Her overall approach and demeanor, and the devotion that she puts into her work is rare and special. We also made the wise choice to hire Danielle (who was our administrative contact) as our day of coordinator, which not only saved us money (and stress) in lieu of a third party, but just made the whole event feel cohesive. Danielle went above and beyond as we (somehow) squeezed our fully outdoor wedding in between heavy rains. By the day of the wedding it felt like we were all on one team, which gave us a lot of confidence with so many things going on. Their attention to quality and detail without all of the negative trappings of the "usual caterer" was refreshing as was the commitment to natural ingredients and local produce. The tasting was so impressive, more like a fine dining experience, and the maintenance of that quality from the tasting at Linda's cafe, to our outdoor cook-tent was a reflection on good staff and their operational stability. Guests loved the brisket and the Coq au Vin (a wedding needs chicken but this isn't wedding chicken). Grounded ruined our wedding. She didn't show up when she was suppose to and said she thought our wedding was Sunday the 1st not August 31st. We had multiple emails confirming the date and every email was subjected "8/31 event". She finally showed up hours late with horrible food that was rushed and thrown together. Many dishes were incorrect and not what we ordered because she rushed to give us something. Because of her EXTREME tardiness everything was ruined and ran an hour and a half late. Worst thing is she is ignoring all of our emails and refusing to apologise or refund us any money. Looks like things will have to be handled in a legal matter. This caterer was horrible. they did a wedding for us, ran out of food, burnt the wedding cake and then after they served the over cooked dry cake, the staff THREW it AWAY. They also served people and within minutes of serving were taking plates away to be cleaned. I was coming from a culinary background and it was hard finding anyone who wanted to help me create the menu I wanted for the day. You really can't go wrong with any of the baked goods and the coffee is A++ What I'm really here to write a review for though is the catering service Grounded provides. Linda catered our wedding over the summer and was essentially the glue that held it all together for us. From the get go, she was enthusiastic, helpful and patient, and put together a perfect menu that fit within our budget. The food was nothing short of spectacular, featuring grilled filet mignon, an incredible mushroom hazelnut loaf (greatest food discovery in years), gnocchi in brown butter and other tasty sides, and all of our guests seemed to agree. We almost did not request a wedding cake and we're pretty glad that we changed our mind about that. My God... possibly the best wedding cake that has ever been concocted. Between that and the small key lime tarts and peanut butter mousse, the dessert was completely ridiculous. And as great as all of the food was, the best part of having Grounded involved with our wedding was Linda and her staff. I was at wits' end by the time her crew arrived, due to typical wedding prep and the owners of the property doing one irritating thing after another, and Linda, like a zen master, essentially took control of everything, told us to relax and enjoy ourselves, and the next thing we knew, everything was fine and we had the best day of our lives. They were as professional as you can get, making sure to follow through on every little detail we had specified and getting each part of the meal out at the perfect time. The dinner service was flawless. I find that a majority of the time, wedding food is about as nondescript as you can get. We really feel so fortunate to have had such amazing food and such great people involved with ours, and it doesn't surprise me in the least to see all of the other positive reviews here. Warning! Do not use grounded! Linda ruined my wedding day. Staff was suppose to arrive at 1pm. At 2pm I called her asking where they were and she said "oh Kim your wedding is scheduled for TOMORROW". Every email had the correct date in it, she completely messed up and showed no remorse! Literally the most important part of our wedding is getting the day right. I instantly burst into tears, her staff was hired to set everything up. At that point nothing was set up. I had to set everything up myself instead of getting ready on my wedding day. I also had to ask guest as they were arriving to help me bring stuff down, it was so embarrassing. Linda showed up at 430! The time the ceremony was suppose to start. Her staff didn't show up until 5-6pm. It was horrible. All the food was cold and thrown together because she wasn't prepared. My whole family felt so bad for me, it was terrible. The worst part is when we asked for a refund she had the nerve to tell me grounded fully fulfilled their obligations. ABSURD! Not that I have any dietary concerns, I just feel better eating clean foods without unnecessary additives. More energy, less upset tummies... You get it. For awhile I just went to Starbucks. But no more! First, the coffee at Grounded is really really good. So is the "day in Provence" iced tea blend. Baked goods are also good, and not overly sweet. Indeed, the cafe makes a great cup cake and donated these to a local museum. But I love the kale quinoa cake with toasted pumpkin seeds over a bed of mixed greens. We needed someone that would cater to the Poughkeepsie area, someone that would work with our budget and of course someone that would cater not only to our guests but also my very vegan wife. We ultimately settled on Grounded because of they're creative menu; Their menu had a pop that others lacked, such as the crustini topped with chocolate spread and chorizo (a personal favorite) or the successful vegan cardamom cake. Grounded exceeded our expectation every step of the way. From the amazing dinner at the menu tasting, to the quality service every couple wishes for during they're wedding day! Warning- steer clear!! We posted the following review on the Knot, and the next day she emailed saying her dog had died in the week after our wedding (including the scanned bill for cremation!? To prove she wasn't lying?) and that she would follow up with us when she could. She never did, despite our emailing asking for follow-up. We were so excited (living in Kingston) to have found such a seemingly awesome caterer. I get that things go wrong on the day but the lack of communication after is inexcusable. Six months later I'm still upset. Our original review (wedding 9/3, posted 9/14): We were so disappointed. They were the worst part of our wedding. From knocking over our wedding cake just before the wedding (3 tiers) and replacing it with a 1 tier, to serving our vegan guest dairy at multiple courses, to over cooking the meat, serving a side as a separate course, they said the tuna tartar would be served on homemade potato chips and they showed up with bags of Lays ruffles, the list goes on. The food tasted nothing like the tasting. We expected Linda to be there and found out two days before the wedding she was "sending her best team" instead. When we emailed Linda after the wedding with our concerns about the our experience (10 days ago) she didn't reply. Silence. Wow. The worst customer service. Such a shame. To be fair- the people working seemed sweet but didn't have guidance. As they entered one of our group overheard them joking about the lack of communication and chaos.
