We stopped in on Saturday night before a show - it was early, maybe 530, and there was one occupied table in an empty restaurant. We were asked by the hostess if we had a rez and did not, so we were told there was only ONE table free and the rest were reserved. When I questioned the hostesss and mentioned we had a show and were only going to be there an hour she said "do you want to see my reservation book?". Um, no, there's no reason to be salty - and we overheard her say it to others as well. Not exactly hospitable; there are nicer ways of saying things. We sat at said "only table" - which was right by the door and next to the hostess stand - and we were immediately greeted by a lovely young woman who seemingly knew nothing about drinks and food. My friend asked for a lighter type of beer, not recognizing the tap selection and was told she should get the ipa (there was a pilsner option and I recommended that since ipas are not light). I asked for a simple marg, rocks salt, and asked what premium tequilas she had and she noted the well and espolon. Those aren't premium; and she mentioned casa Migos - great! Only to come back 3 minutes later to tell me They are out of that and offered some brands i had not heard of, which is fine , but when I asked if they were blanco, reposado or anejo, she had no idea. Regardless of not knowing her stuff, she was lovely and attentive. So now comes the food. We wanted some Snacks to share and ordered the hot honey chicken, tempura asparagus and a special hash brown that was supposed to have crème fresh and some type of roe. Cool - the perfect amount to share in the short time we had. The asparagus were not shaved before frying so you couldn't really pick them up and eat them with your hands as they were stringy and came with a side of mayo. Not an aioli or anything seasoned - just mayo. You had to cut the asparagus into pieces. Could be worse but ya think maybe you could provide a dipping sauce that wasn't a spoonful of hellmans? The chicken was not hot, nor did it have honey, but it was fresh. The hash brown special did not have crème fresh - it was sour cream- a lot of it - and was very crispy, which was great after you scraped off the giant tablespoon of sour cream. Overall the food all fell short in taste, presentation and price (they are not shy on their prices, which is fine if the food, even this simple, was amazing). This could have been such a better experience. Between the salty hostess, untrained waitress (not her fault), and food that was mediocre, we spent $109 before tip. Yep - for 2 drinks, chicken nuggets, fried asparagus and 2 hash browns....I would have happily paid it for great service and great food. Again, our waitress was lovely, just poorly trained and not her fault. The hostess continued to be short w just about everyone who walked in - and we only knew that because our "only seat" was right next to her. Do better Kinsley - even Michael Kosta, who was the show we were seeing at the Assembly, made jokes about having to leave that night because the hotel was charging 13k a night (a joke but we all understood he was talking about the pricing). If you're going to charge top dollar, then be top service. Make it memorable, and not in a way that makes one write a review like this. Hugely disappointing; not recommending and will not be back. read more

Our first time in Kingston, New York. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood, staying at Hotel Kingsley for a weekend was just enough time to explore the hotel and surrounding areas in Kingston. Our hotel room, I cannot remember what number we stayed at, however it was considered one of the bigger suites. Hotel Kingsley had a small casual space when you enter, past the stairs, there are couches by the window. Music by the side, books on the shelves, games available in the same space. Downstairs, there is a bigger area to hangout by the TV with couches too. A small gym is on the same floor, sauna in a separate room. (We didn't explore the sauna because the door was locked). Checking out the downstairs. It was a comfortable, quiet setting. Our hotel room, my favorite part from night one was the bathroom. Huge bathroom, big windows and awesome rainfall shower. The entire space was worth it for a weekend stay. Hotel Kingsley looks renovated. You can see the maintenance is done well and noise was seldom you can still relax and enjoy your stay. read more

The hotel is spread out across multiple buildings in the surrounding area. We stayed at the John St location (2 blocks - 3min walk) from the main Wall Street building. Check-in was easy and quick and you just tap your hotel key at the front door of the off-site hotel. We booked a grand queen with fireplace and it was lovely. The bedding was amazing and super comfortable and the fireplace really added warmth to the room - literally and figuratively. The only downside was the walls were thin and you can hear your neighbors, but it is a historical building from the 1800s. Our stay included a continental breakfast with a spread of fresh mini pastries, fruit, yogurt, and juices along with coffee and tea. read more

Truly miserable experience. My wife and I booked the Hotel Kinsley months before a trip to celebrate a milestone birthday. The day before we were due to check in, we were told that our reservation had been cancelled. After some attempts to rectify the situation, the hotel stopped responding to emails. Their suggestion? That a comparable alternative was the Best Western. After our experience, I'm tempted to believe them. read more

Hotel Kinsley is lovely and charming. The buildings of the hotel are spread apart by a few blocks, all easy to find and in the same vicinity. Check in and check out were both easy and efficient procedures. The front desk staff were nice and helpful during our stay. We found our room (Pearl Street Grand Queen) to be comfortable enough. We loved the fact that the Pearl Street building had the gym. We did go to the hotel restaurant one night and had a great time. Food and service were great. The continental breakfast and the free parking were nice touches. And we really liked being able to bring breakfast items to the room in the provided brown boxes. We did not mind the daily destination fee since we are used to such things at unique locations or hotels. The one and only crinkle was Housekeeping. *On our second day we saw that the floors were not vacuumed. This is important in the winter since shoes bring in even more debris even when they are removed art the door. We had to call and request the room to be vacuumed. *On the third day, there was no back-up toilet paper left in the room and so we had to go down to the gym bathroom to get a roll of toilet paper. (The buildings do not have 24 hr staff.) *On the fourth day the tissue box was empty and the housekeeping person had left the empty tissue boxes in the bathroom without leaving a new box. *Lastly when we got back home, I noticed an unrecognized charge on my card. When I called to inquire, turns out that it was a mini bar charge even though we had not consumed anything from the mini bar. The front desk attendant that I talked to was kind enough to remove the charge efficiently enough: albeit after an awkward exchange where he warned me "...to not be rude!" where I had simply said during the conversation: "...well yes, then go ahead and forward the request to management". That was interesting. Oh well. Kingston is an adorable town and we loved visiting the area. And we would stay at Hotel Kingsley again despite the bit with housekeeping and the awkward exchange over the phone. read more

But, no bottle of water as a welcome? $40 destination fee, which is not documented anywhere on website, for a hotel that doesn't even have a lounge to relax in w parking 3 blocks away. Leaves a bad taste, despite the comfortable rooms. Wish I had known it was part of Marriott group, I could have added to my record & received points. read more

I stayed here and do not recommend it. I had to check in in one building, walk a couple of blocks to park and then another block and a half to the building with my room. No map was given to me so it was difficult to find anything as the street signs aren't visible and you don't even know which way to walk. They should put a map on their website with the buildings and parking lots pointed out and this map should be given to all who check in. The room itself was nothing to write home about. Overpriced for what you get. Could have paid half of what I paid here elsewhere. read more

I would avoid this hotel and stay elsewhere. The price is very high, the room was cramped and uncomfortable, there is no elevator and the common hallways are dingy, as is the staircase up to the room. The bed was awful and I had an allergic reaction to the sheets. When we complained, we were made to feel like we were trying to take advantage of the situation, rather than honestly reporting how dissatisfied and misled we felt. If you want to stay at a dump they call luxury and be disrespected if you complain, look no further. The paper thin walls will be the least of your concerns. read more

The hotel is spread out across multiple locations. We had our Check in on one street but our room was blocks away. Next up we couldn't find the hotel because while there was small signage the bulbs were blown out or not turned on. So on a dark street it was nearly impossible to find. I nearly fell down the stairs trying to get into the building in the dark. If you are carrying luggage, this is treacherous. There is no one there once you get into the building to greet you and no elevator. At night, the neighborhood feels abandoned and creepy, like something from Scooby Doo. (Cue the weird organ). I kept wondering when does Mr. Causegood Creeps jump out. The parking lot is not attached to the building but separated by a bank parking lot. Again, it was poorly marked. Overall, not a lot of thought went into this from the end user point of view. It was a very disjointed experience. I definitely would not recommend. Mid-century, meets Art Deco, you feel like you you've been transported back in time to elegance and class in the style that more of Manhattan should be delivering these days. The interior of the Pearl Street building reveals sumptuous colors and thoughtful curation of furniture and art in the lobby and stairwell. The interior of the rooms is a disappointment after the inside of the building. Some more statement pieces of furniture, artwork, or colorful curtains would make the rooms feel more luxury. Lovely heated bathroom floors, towel warmer, and claw foot tubs on black and white tiles. Reception was friendly and informative. Minibars are stocked with specialty, craft, nonalcoholic and alcoholic drinks. The front desk offered prompt response to all our requests. The Kinsley bar feels like riding on a 1940's streetcar. Cocktail lamps, amber lighting, and tasty cocktails are what you can expect. Loved the "garden party" featuring gin and rhubarb, and the martini which showcases frozen olive oil, with a sidecar of all garnishes, anticipating guest preference. The bartender was a bit surly and lacked the hospitality of other staff we encountered during our stay. read more

Cute hotel in Kingston. We booked a standard room for a last minute getaway. The room was simple but nicely decorated and comfortable. The hotel is in a building that used to be a bank, with the reception desk located in what was the vault. One of the bonuses of the building was that we could open the windows but found the ally next to our room to be a little noisy. read more

This review is for Pearl St location on the first floor. Room consistently smells nice when you walk in. Cute and nicely decorated. Bathroom was chic and bath products smelled great. Front desk was very nice. Our wifi didn't work so they gave us another portal. However, the walls are thin so you can hear everyone else walking in and out, slamming doors and footsteps in room above. You can also hear all cars driving by and people talking out on the streets at night. Fireplace and TV were both not working. Room was kinda dark and could use another light source. Bed was uncomfortable, you could feel the kinks as you slumped in. Would consider other options if we're in town again but other than noise and certain things not working, this wasn't a terrible option. read more

Great service and location but small rooms. Our one-night stay in quaint Kingston was nice. The restaurant bar was fantastic, we had delicious mocktails and dessert, and they kindly accommodated us without a reservation since we were guests. The hotel is pet-friendly, which is a bonus. However, the room was very small for the price, which is obviously because of the lack of options in the area. We could barely walk around the bed! This is normal for European rooms, but for American hotels, our room was very, very small. Now, it wasn't astronomically priced, by any means, and this hotel has the most modern accommodations in a 1-hour (driving) radius. read more

Due to car issues, I was never able to make it on my Hudson Valley dream vacation. Each day after our check in day passed, I called the front desk at Hotel Kinsley and explained the car situation as it got worse and worse. The front desk, especially Dan, could not have been nicer or more professional. Today we found out our car was not going to be able to make the trip, so I called Chase Rewards to cancel the trip. Hotel Kingsley agreed to a full refund. After a few days of horrible luck, I am EXTREMELY grateful to Hotel Kingsley right now. We will make it back here when our car is back in order. read more

Room 302. On trend furnishings. Super clean. Nice sheets, pillows, and towels. Quiet. TV had HBO. Snowing outside but room perfect temperature upon arrival. Don't miss the free continental breakfast. The pastry is to die for. I ate mine in my room. Some nice shops within 2 blocks. The hat store Blue-Byrd was my favorite and I bought a beret $-$$$. Followed by Magic Mercantile $$$-$$$. Don't miss Kingston Bread + Bar. Incredible French- style pastry and bread at goofy cheap prices. Do not expect to rely on Uber. The prices were astronomical. Pre-booking wasn't available at any time we checked. The hotel has the number of taxi cab company but I decided to drive myself. Nearest parking is metered and right outside hotel. Coming from Philly I was surprised the meters only took nickels, dimes, and quarters - no credit cards. Funny, the hotel is a re-purposed bank but the front desk didn't have change readily available. Was honestly surprised I even had cash in my purse. Somewhere 2 blocks away is a parking lot? Be prepared to deal with parking meters and you'll have a lovely time here. read more

I asked two different desk clerks to have the manager call me and yet he found it easier to ignore the problem. While the hotel and its accommodations are more than adequate, its billing policy contains a series of hidden charges. My $169 room rate turned out to be $255.56 after a series of ambiguous charges. A fee of $25 was tucked into the "tax and service charge" fee and then a "service fee" of $14.99 was added. If that was not enough, they then charge a $27 "destination fee" which they claim covers the parking and breakfast. I arrived at the hotel just after midnight and parked on the street. I returned my room key and departed the hotel just before 5 am yet I was charged for parking and breakfast. The additional charges (net of hotel tax) increased my stay by $67 which, if included in the original "bait price" would have sent me elsewhere. This form of DECEPTIVE PRICING is reprehensible. read more

I have mixed feelings about my recent stay. I booked a king room with a fireplace - Pearl street location. The room was tastefully designed and large, bathroom was spacious and the tub a beautiful detail. But traffic noise during the week was unbearable - not the serene getaway I had hoped for. There is no coffee in the room which is sad especially off-season when many shops are closed. Breakfast was very minimal for such a pricey hotel - only a few mini croissants, fruit and stale bagels. Coffee was not good. Morning front desk staff was wonderful - he recommended hiking trails that I truly enjoyed. I wanted to relax in the sauna after the hikes and called 30 min ahead for it to be set up; as instructed. But when I arrived nothing was set up. The sauna was cold, no towels etc. Restaurant was closed and evening staff didn't make good recommendation for alternatives. Two places were also closed and one was more of a dive bar than a restaurant. All in all, a beautiful hotel but there are service shortcomings that are unacceptable for a hotel of this price class. read more
