    Firecracker roll
    Arrianna R.

The roll and drink were both very delicious! The only suggestion I would have is some background music for ambiance. I went on a Saturday afternoon, but there were still a few people in there and just having the extra layer would have made it a truly nice atmosphere. But overall, very good quality and i would love to come back to try more!

Was able to get a reservation here on Sunday for 4, which was a nice surprise. I think the kitchen was just getting started for the evening because it took a little bit to get our food, but we did have drinks to enjoy and our server was attentive. I delighted in my hibachi and my partner relished the udon noodles. As we were finishing dinner, our server heard me mention it was my birthday and he so very kindly brought me a cheesecake. Such a wonderful experience, especially because we decided to grab a bite here last minute.

I've tried eating here twice in the last two weeks and left both times without ever getting food. The first visit, my coworkers and I came for their BOGO sushi. We were seated, ordered drinks, and then were told their freezer had broken the night before and they could only serve soup. Disappointing, but we left understanding. Still, a heads-up before seating would've been appreciated. We decided to try again the following week. Again, seated quickly, drinks came out, and we placed our orders. After 40 minutes, we had no food and barely saw our server. The restaurant wasn't even busy. One of us had to go into the kitchen to get an update, and we were finally told they were severely short-staffed and it would be another 30 minutes. We waited it out, but by 90 minutes, still nothing. Meanwhile, a large party that came after us got their food -- pretty sure they were given our orders. We ended up canceling everything and walking out -- again. Grabbed sushi from Harris Teeter just to eat something. We had planned around this lunch and missed work meetings. Also worth noting: a few of our plates were dirty. I've worked in food service and understand being short-staffed, but the lack of transparency, updates, or basic service is unacceptable. We should've been told the situation up front so we could make a choice. After two failed visits, dirty plates, no food, and a complete waste of time, they honestly owe us money for having to go to Harris Teeter twice for lunch. Won't be back, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Stopped by for a quick bite during happy hour. Pretty empty. Waiter took my order quickly. Did not enjoy the beef and kimchi dumplings. Tuna tataki was okay and salmon carpaccio was so-so. Not pressed to return.

    Yellowtail was perfectly balanced.

Great food, ingredients were fresh, service at the bar was quick and friendly. Very reasonable pricing and happy hour specials to boot. Would definitely dine again.

I wanted to like this place but the food just wasn't for me. The atmosphere was nice. The service was good. But the food was not to my liking. I ordered the Kids pho and omg the broth was terrible. We ordered the Papaya salad with shrimp and that was basically a cabbage salad. What green papaya?! Flavor was good a bit too sweet. It was not spicy at all were not offered to choose a spice level.

Really nice place. Not a huge menu which for me, that's fine. Had the pork and ginger dumplings as an appetizer. They were good. Ordered the Firecracker sushi roll and the Ahi Poke Stack. They were both excellent. Both the server and the hostess were friendly and very helpful. I will definitely go back.

Always super good ! My favorite Bang Bang Shrimp (32) crab Rangoons !

Always super good love the food and fast service. In middle of north hills, super chill.

Green papaya salad. More like coleslaw. We couldn't even select a spicy level

Not impressed. We tried the green papaya salad, the Bun Xao, the Tofu buns and the spicy tuna poke bowl. The bowl felt more like a burrito bowl, they had full slices of bell peppers in there. The flavors of the fish and rice were good, but the peppers were overpowering. The papaya salad was a let down. Most papaya salads are loaded with papaya with a little filler. This is basically coleslaw with a hint of papaya. Flavors were OK, but only comes mild, you don't get the select a spice level. I had a black every bourbon fizz cocktail. That was delicious . Sounded like a great cocktail menu, so it's worth a try. The service was not great either.

Five stars, no hesitation…read more I heard about Sono Sushi through Resy and finally made it in. It's located in downtown Raleigh on Fayetteville Street, right next to the ABC 11 studios, easy to find and a great spot if you're already downtown. The ambiance is great and fits the food well. There's a nice mix of seating, tables along the windows looking out onto the street, high top tables, traditional dining tables, and a sushi bar if you want to sit up close and watch everything being made. It feels lively without being loud, and works well whether you're there for a date night or a more casual meal. We started with the Aburi appetizer, torched salmon belly, ooba, salmon roe, Japanese seabream, yuzu kosho, and ponzu, and it was outstanding. Everything worked together perfectly, rich, bright, and balanced. I also ordered ikura and ebi, even though I meant to order ama ebi, but no regrets there. Still excellent. We shared the Poke Roll with wakame, avocado, cucumber, mango, tuna, salmon, hamachi, and Sono poke sauce, and it was very good, fresh, flavorful, and well composed without being overdone. My wife ordered the spicy miso ramen and loved it. The broth was the star, deep and comforting, and the pork chashu pieces were massive, in a good way. I went with the chicken katsu curry, panko fried chicken thigh with house curry and koshihikari rice, something I haven't had since Little Tokyo in LA a few years ago, and it tasted like home. Comforting, familiar, and exactly what I was hoping for. For drinks, I ordered the "SONO? SO-YES!" entirely because of the name, but also because I love blood orange. Casamigos Blanco tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, coconut cream, simple syrup, and blood orange juice, it was excellent. My only complaint is that I wanted more of it. My wife got the Okinawa Spritz, a play on an Aperol spritz with passionfruit, and it was even better than the original. We finished with the yuzu cheesecake. I debated between that and the ube cheesecake, but since this is a Japanese restaurant, yuzu felt right, and it absolutely delivered. Overall, everything from the food to the drinks hit. This is a place I would happily return to, and honestly, I'm already looking forward to the next visit.

I think it was just at the height of rush hour and they were doing their best- I would just pad your expected time here because it is quite popular. Loud environment, concrete floors with no rugs or anything. LOVED the Gyosa!!! Like table slapping good. Some of the best I've ever tried. Ordered the Grand Piano and Umi Kazan rolls, both good with shrimp tempura but the Grand Piano was far "denser" with the blue crab in the middle. The Umi Kazan was my favorite with the shredded crab on top. I liked the assortment of options and how you could customize if you wanted. Also ordered a Malbec wine- quite good. Our waiter was very accommodating, just slammed for the dinner rush. I'd definitely return! The neon koi fish and paper umbrellas were stunning.

This spot is good for a fancy date night! My husband opted for the lunch special, which included soup, salad, curry, and a side of sushi. He absolutely raved about the curry. I chose the fish wontons alongside the Raleigh roll, which was exceptional; the addition of mango on top was perfect with the lobster tempura for me. I am also always appreciative when a sushi place can accommodate my addiction to add cream cheese to any roll- they made it work! Service was prompt and attentive. The green tea leaned slightly earthy for my taste, but it did little to detract from an otherwise outstanding meal. I would gladly return and recommend this spot to groups seeking high-quality sushi in a polished setting.

The sweetness of the sauce makes this a perfect plate. The vegi in this dish is also good paired with the same sauce. Overall this is one of the best lamb and for the price it is so worthy. The Ajisay is also good. But not something extraordinary though. The most disappointment is the love boat. The sashimi does not taste fresh at all. The texture of the tuna makes you feel that it has been in the fridge for few days. The same for the sushi. I thought they would have special fish but just regular tuna and salmon. We substituted the rolls and had to pay $5 extra. I think it is good decision because we enjoyed the Volcano. It is crunchy and abit spicy. The pink lady was also something we never had before so glad we tried it out. We have been to Ajisay a few times but this time it is 50/50.

Knowing how quickly their tables disappear, I checked for reservations on the drive over, fully expecting disappointment. Instead, a small miracle: an open table. I booked it before the screen could change its mind. Upon arrival, the host greeted us with the gentle chaos that only a true local favorite can produce. Our table wasn't quite ready "just waiting on a few folks to wrap up" so we lingered near the entryway, watching the ebb and flow of diners. A brief mix-up had us nearly escorted to a table before being pulled back, but within minutes we were seated, no worse for the detour. Our spot was perfect: a front-row view of the sushi bar, where chefs moved with the quiet intensity of people who know their craft is being watched and appreciated. The restaurant hummed around us servers weaving between tables, the soft clatter of plates, the low murmur of regulars who clearly consider this their second home. Our server, whose name I wish I'd caught, was a standout. Attentive without hovering, candid about the kitchen running a bit behind, and consistently thoughtful with updates. His honesty made the experience feel more intimate, more human. Cocktails arrived first, followed by a parade of sushi and small plates. Everything was fresh, balanced, and deeply satisfying, the kind of meal that doesn't need theatrics to make an impression.

The restaurant is "cute," with neon, sushi cats, and TVs. Quiet when it's empty, loud when there are large tables. Both the tonkatsu and shoyu ramens tasted fine if a little too salty. Salt was, in fact, the primary flavor. The broths had nowhere near the richness and depth of flavor that should have been present. The noodles were appropriately bouncy and were well cooked. The appetizers were also just okay. It's hard to screw up edamame and they didn't. They were served hotter than usual which was actually very nice. The furikake fries are overrated. The fries themselves are good and beautifully crispy but that's due to the light coating of cornstarch or rice flour on the fries. That helps give them that extra boost. The furikake itself doesn't stick to the fries and just falls to the bottom of the dish, adding absolutely nothing to the fries. The restaurant seemed understaffed. The server did his level best but was spread too thin. All in all, decent food but Miso Ramen by the bus station is much better.
