Loved the service. Drinks we ordered twice were different each time but they were good. Oniwa, tsunami, rainbow, and the Dillion were delicious. I would return to this location again. We enjoyed our meals and we visited twice in one week! I love the decor as well.

One of the few restaurants i repeatedly recommend to any and all friends. They are consistent with their quality. One of the best sushi spots around. I love love love the otoro spoons. But honestly, everything on their menu is spectacular. I have sooooo many pics of oku dinners from how often i visit. Their service is also great! They're super attentive, friendly, and consistent!!!! They give it a lot of gifts too which makes your experience feel special. Super sultry sophisticated vibes. Ive put on all of my friends onto Oku for years and theyve done the same w their circles. I visit between Charlotte and Raleigh a lot, and both locations are always the same friendly and delish experience. No notes for Oku!! if i could add the 100+ pics of oku dishes ive had, i would. I would rec: garden salad otoro spoons A5 wagyu sashimi!! any! my personal faves are salmon and eel Lobster handroll dillon roll any of their sushi rolls tbh! mont blanc cake

We made a reservation ahead of time on OpenTable. You can walk to the restaurant. There's street parking available. The restaurant was dimly lit with a candle at table. They sat us near a door, so it kept blowing out and was kind of cold. The tables are close together, but you're not on top of the people next to you. There are booths, high tops, and outdoor seating with heat lamps. They play music slightly loud. The staff are friendly and are conscious if you have any allergies (give informed alternatives). The sushi was amazing quality especially the Wagyu (worth the market price around $20). The nigiri is one piece but it's a good portion of rice and fish - a good mouth full. I'd definitely come back because it was so delicious despite being expensive. It's easy to quickly rack up a large bill with the nigiri.

O-Ku was a gem on a Saturday night. The ambiance was upscale and low lit. I started with their version of the lychee martini, Clouds on White, which was beautifully made and easy to drink. Followed by a tequila featured drink which is pictured below. I was able to try the Spicy Tuna Crunch and the Angry Salmon signature maki. Both were amazing but the star of the show was the delicious O-Toro Sashimi, buttery perfection and an absolute must!

Spent an early evening anniversary dinner here. Most of the recommendations we found here were spot-on. We had the rock shrimp and crispy rice apps to start, then the salmon & lemon maki, tsunami roll, and spicy tuna crunch. They provided us with two complimentary glasses of champagne and topped our dessert with a 'Happy Anniversary' chocolate. The interior is elegant but we chose to spend a pleasant time to ourselves outside. My spouse was really pleased to find a cool new venue for a night out, and thanked me for 'finding' it.

This was our first time at this restaurant and our waitress really out did herself. She went over the menu and recommended her favorite items. We tried the Rock shrimp she suggested and it was AMAZING! She then brought us some dumplings as well as dessert to try. We cannot remember her name and meant to ask before we left but if you see this THANK YOU from Angel&Jen. Also want to thank David behind the sushi bar for convincing us to get dessert!

Absolutely one of the best meals I've had in the triangle. The food was phenomenal, and the staff were awesome. Our server, Eric, provided us with the most exceptional service and really good care of us. Not only is Eric awesome but he has amazing taste when it comes to recommending a dish. He even gave me a little insight on the Mamushi Maki! ;) Thank you Eric for being amazing and patient with us. I will definitely be coming back!

Can't explain in words how amazing dinner here was. The service was top north. Our server, Sam, was super friendly and kind and just so good at her job. The food was INSANE. I am salivating just thinking about it. Will be back over and over!

O-Ku is now probably my favorite sushi restaurant! The inside is so cute and photoworthy. The service was perfect from the beginning until the end and they were very accommodating for my friends allergy and the alterations did not impact the taste of her food or her dessert. My waitress was so so nice. The sushi was 1000/10. I ordered the Unagi Nigiri and the Kurama. They brought out a nice dessert surprise since they knew I was celebrating a special occasion. Now I see why O-Ku is so popular!

We started with the edamame and chicken and pork dumplings, both of which were excellent. I recommend the Himalayan salt and truffle oil edamame; it had a generous amount of truffle oil, which I enjoyed. The dipping sauce for the dumplings looks like chili oil, but it's a savory garlic soy that paired well with them. For the pork belly wrap, it comes with three pieces, but for an additional $5, you can get an extra one, definitely worth it, especially if you're sharing. You'll likely want two each. The sauce on the pork belly had a nice balance of sweet and salty, making it the highlight of the meal. I also ordered the hanger steak, which was well prepared, and the potatoes served with it were fantastic, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Our waiter was pleasant and provided great recommendations. The atmosphere had a slightly upscale feel, making it perfect for a date night.

Went here for happy hour with friend. The happy hour menu isn't that great but I love the sushi here. We had a great waiter who recommended the karama roll and it was so fresh and delicious. Also had the tsunami roll that was on the happy hour menu and it was good too.

Pretty good sushi restaurant. This was definitely not the most mind blowing sushi I've ever had, but it was not bad. The rolls did take a while to come out, and I do want to give this place 3 stars but our waitress was so kind and helpful. She ended up giving us free dessert for my friend's birthday and she was very sweet. The interior of the restaurant was also super cute as well.

    Ask the Community - O-Ku

    Is this place reservation only?

No, but I would highly recommend one. They book up fast.

    Is the outdoor seating heated?

Are you still offering half-off rolls on Monday, Wednesday and Friday's?

Yes they are (dine-in only though I think)

Do they offer take-out for the sushi happy hour deal?

They did the first time I went there. Got it to go and waited at the bar. But just called and they said no go to the BOGO when calling in. Maybe ordering at the bar To go and having a beer counts as dining in?

Are there any kid friendly options?

I don't recall any kid-oriented selections on the menu, that I'm aware.

Are they open for lunch? I see a few photos of lunch menus posted but no lunch hours.

Ive only known them to open at 5, sorry not much help. But if they do, please feel free to let us (me) know. Happy hunting!

This spot is good for a fancy date night! My husband opted for the lunch special, which included soup, salad, curry, and a side of sushi. He absolutely raved about the curry. I chose the fish wontons alongside the Raleigh roll, which was exceptional; the addition of mango on top was perfect with the lobster tempura for me. I am also always appreciative when a sushi place can accommodate my addiction to add cream cheese to any roll- they made it work! Service was prompt and attentive. The green tea leaned slightly earthy for my taste, but it did little to detract from an otherwise outstanding meal. Five stars, no hesitation…read more I heard about Sono Sushi through Resy and finally made it in. It's located in downtown Raleigh on Fayetteville Street, right next to the ABC 11 studios, easy to find and a great spot if you're already downtown. The ambiance is great and fits the food well. There's a nice mix of seating, tables along the windows looking out onto the street, high top tables, traditional dining tables, and a sushi bar if you want to sit up close and watch everything being made. It feels lively without being loud, and works well whether you're there for a date night or a more casual meal. We started with the Aburi appetizer, torched salmon belly, ooba, salmon roe, Japanese seabream, yuzu kosho, and ponzu, and it was outstanding. Everything worked together perfectly, rich, bright, and balanced. I also ordered ikura and ebi, even though I meant to order ama ebi, but no regrets there. Still excellent. We shared the Poke Roll with wakame, avocado, cucumber, mango, tuna, salmon, hamachi, and Sono poke sauce, and it was very good, fresh, flavorful, and well composed without being overdone. My wife ordered the spicy miso ramen and loved it. The broth was the star, deep and comforting, and the pork chashu pieces were massive, in a good way. I went with the chicken katsu curry, panko fried chicken thigh with house curry and koshihikari rice, something I haven't had since Little Tokyo in LA a few years ago, and it tasted like home. Comforting, familiar, and exactly what I was hoping for. For drinks, I ordered the "SONO? SO-YES!" entirely because of the name, but also because I love blood orange. Casamigos Blanco tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, coconut cream, simple syrup, and blood orange juice, it was excellent. My only complaint is that I wanted more of it. My wife got the Okinawa Spritz, a play on an Aperol spritz with passionfruit, and it was even better than the original. We finished with the yuzu cheesecake. I debated between that and the ube cheesecake, but since this is a Japanese restaurant, yuzu felt right, and it absolutely delivered. Overall, everything from the food to the drinks hit. This is a place I would happily return to, and honestly, I'm already looking forward to the next visit.

The crowd was not bad for a Friday night, though I recommend reserving your table if bringing a large group. We came fifteen minutes after Sono opened. I tried the hot sake on offer tonight, and it was refreshing. It kept well in the jar provided. My sushi roll was presented well. The wasabi has a strong kick to it, and so does their spicy ginger. Others in my group ordered ramen. The bowls are generously sized, comparable to what you'd receive when ordering in a Japanese ramen joint. Sono's broth is rich, and their noodles are done the way they should be. I had the opportunity to visit Japan in 2023. I can say that my meal at Sono brought back memories from the trip, and the food was of the quality I saw in Japan. Well done.

They had the perfect char on the dumpling without making it too seared. The Sashimi plate was incredible, each piece of fish melted in your mouth. If I have to give one critique I'd say our yellow tail was still a little frozen but that didn't stop me from devouring it. Crispy Salmon Roll was light and refreshing and their Rainbow Roll was like no other I've had. Knowing how quickly their tables disappear, I checked for reservations on the drive over, fully expecting disappointment. Instead, a small miracle: an open table. Our table wasn't quite ready "just waiting on a few folks to wrap up" so we lingered near the entryway, watching the ebb and flow of diners. A brief mix-up had us nearly escorted to a table before being pulled back, but within minutes we were seated, no worse for the detour. Our spot was perfect: a front-row view of the sushi bar, where chefs moved with the quiet intensity of people who know their craft is being watched and appreciated. The restaurant hummed around us servers weaving between tables, the soft clatter of plates, the low murmur of regulars who clearly consider this their second home. Our server, whose name I wish I'd caught, was a standout. Attentive without hovering, candid about the kitchen running a bit behind, and consistently thoughtful with updates.
