While eating our way through Charleston, my husband and I stopped into CO for second lunch because one lunch is obviously not enough. We came at an off hour and pretty much had the run of the place. The atmosphere was nice and trendy. The service was fine. I ordered the Beef Pho, and the best way to describe it was white person pho. The broth lacked the depth of flavor that I've come to enjoy so much from authentic Vietnamese restaurants. It kind of tasted like the flavoring packets from cheap ramen. There were very few scallions and shallots in the broth. The beef, however, was very flavorful and high quality. The accoutrement was also very fresh. My husband had the Chicken Pad Thai, which he very much enjoyed. The bite I had was very tasty. read more

I'm always on the search for authentic, flavorful Asian cuisine. Decided to try CO when I was in Charleston for a weekend trip. So happy I did. Had the curry laksa. Broth was very rich and flavorful, generous portion of chicken and shrimps. The only minor drawback is a huge portion of their dining area has communal seating. Not a problem if you're just out for casual dinner, but might be a bit of an issue if you're going on a date. Great service. Will be back! read more

Went with the family to celebrate my daughter visiting. Had 11 people, separate checks, some fickle eaters and we loved it. Several had never had this kid of food. The Pho was a hit along with some of the curry dishes. We moved around so that we could visit with other relatives at other parts of the tables and it was a little confusing for the wait staff but they handled it with grace under pressure! I really love the feel of this place and have had a Curry Dish and a Pho. I love this place and will be back! read more

Great food here. Love the bartender Jennifer. She's so nice and helpful. Fun girl to chat with.

Bland Bahn mi with mushy tofu and generally disappointing. No sauces available on the table to spice it up. Good dressing on the salad but poor shrimp. read more

Just went to Co for my third time last night. First two times were great and 5-star worthy. However, last night I came with a group of 8-10 people and we had an uncharacteristically poor experience. Positives first: -Great atmosphere. Modern, very cool vibe. -Full bar with some (not many) great beers on tap -Great date spot -Great food, vegetarian friendly -Decent prices Negatives: We were told 25 minute waiting time when we arrived, which turned out to be over an hour. During the wait our group of 8 had to wait, crammed in the corner by the bar where there was NO AIR CONDITIONING. People were sweating. Very stuffy. After finally being seated, the service was extremely slow. My dinner entree was last to arrive... a solid 10 minutes after the rest of my table was served. We ended up at the restaurant for 3 full hours when all was said and done which has to be a record for me. Note: This was during restaurant week, so I understand things get busy. But man. Our table actually had a discussion about feeling compelled to record this poor experience on Yelp. read more

Oh my good lord noodles. We stopped in for a glass of wine and a snack during a shopping trip and had a lovely time. We ate at the bar and ordered the Hanoi noodles and summer spring rolls, which were Fabulous. The bartender was really nice and chatted with us as we enjoyed our time. Definitely worth a stop! read more

Food was fantastic! Great soups and pad thai noodles. The pho was as authentic as we have had in USA, and the Pad thai was excellent. Well worth visiting. Very hip spot with great decor. They are communal tables so you may have to sidle up to some randoms. The service was reasonably good, however on our visit we had a table behind us that was clearly drunk and very loud. The wait staff did nothing to quieten them, but rather kept serving them up shots the whole time we were. read more

I ordered two vegan dishes for takeout. Got back to my hotel only to realize they subbed chicken for tofu on the udon dish. SUCH a gross surprise and super disappointing. I checked my receipt to make sure it wasn't an error on my part. Definitely on their end. The spring rolls were delicious so it wasn't a total loss. read more

First time trying pho and I had their beef spicy pho it was AMAZING! My friend got the chicken spicy pho and enjoyed it as well. We ordered the beef and kimchi dumplings it was so good I was upset there was only 4 because I wanted more! Same with the spicy crab wontons which were spicy at all to me but still delicious. I also had the lychee lemongrass sake fusion, SO YUM! Definitely coming back. read more

I have been to co before and the food is good. However the last time I came was a bad experience. I waited at the host stand for 15 minutes while the host walked around ignoring us. Finally, i grabbed his attention and asked if we could put our names in. He snapped at me and told me that he was low and servers and that i'm gonna have to wait. I don't mind waiting, but he was very rude and aggressive. 15 minutes go by and he asks how many (there's 3 of us) and all he said was yea there's gonna be a wait and walked away again very rudely. no information on how long and put our name in. While this was going on, there was no where to wait or sit and waiters kept walking by us screaming excuse me very aggressively. The Bar tender seems nice but never come here and expect nice service or nice staff members. They couldn't give two shits about you. read more

Yay, that's how good the food is. I got the Vietnamese noodle, my husband got the pad Thai. The pad Thai was a little bit greasy at the bottom but it was really good. My mojito was perfect too! read more

This would have been a 5 star review but our first impression wasn't great. Apparently they were short one staff member and you could tell the bartender/acting hostess was annoyed. We ended up sitting at the bar thinking we would hang there until a table was ready to find out they didn't put our name on the list for seating. When we mentioned something, she said 'oh, well I already put these people down in front of you so.....' and didn't even offer a solution to make it right even though it was a simple miscommunication. Our food took a good amount of time to come out but she made that right by comping a drink. Food was delicious and came out hot though! read more

I wanted something a little outside the norm and this place definitely delivered! Small space so I can imagine that it would be hard to find a spot during peak times. Luckily i was there on an off night and was able to sit at the bar. First impression was the food was reasonably priced! in most metropolis areas food of this caliber would easily be double. I started with the dumplings which came 4 per order. Then followed up with the XO Ramen. Both were phenomenal! Next time i am in the area i will definitely make a stop! read more

Such an underrated spot. I've been a couple of times- once was more quick bite/appetizer and the most recent time I went for beef pho. It was flavorful, spicy and just what i needed, staff was polite and accommodating and although the restaurant itself is tiny, it has a big city feel which I love. I need to come back more often read more

CO - The curry laksa is tremendous - Vietnamese Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

I'll start with the good.. The playlist is great. The hostess and water boy are also great. And then the bad... 1. Our waiter seemed to be on drugs..total space cadet 2. My friend's wantons were raw..like slimy pink chicken...talk about salmonella..and one of my friends had ordered edamame wantons..which the waiter didn't fix after we asked. 3. They brought the checks before the dessert came..which it never did because we waited so long. 4. The manager did not seem to care that everything went wrong. 5. Pretty sure the restaurant is not ADA compliant.. Tall tables on the lower floor, no elevator, and tables that don't have room for handicap people. 6. The stairs are flaming hot. My one star seems generous for the worst dining experience I've had in Charleston read more

Amazing Thai food! I got the edemame spring rolls and they were probably the best spring rolls ive ever had! Pad thai was amazing, more citursy than most places but i still loved it. The entire table loved their food! Its a little small and you have to be flexible about seating but its worth it! Our waiter Ted was amazing. Couldnt have asked for a better dinner! read more

During a recent visit to Charleston we chanced upon this eatery while walking King street. We only had one free dinner night as we had already booked dinners in advance at some of the more recognized restaurants in the area such as Circa and Husk. This was hands down the best meal we had during our stay and from a price prospective was the best value. Service was attentive and friendly so I need to give a shout out to Sarah. We had the Spicy Crab Rangoon for an appetizer and the sauce on this was so good that we found ourselves using our fingers to wipe off every lick. Both my wife and I ended up on the Spicy Pho with short ribs and once again this was a great and filling meal. So much about what makes a good Pho in my mind is the broth and this was spot on. read more

Delish! I'm so glad I have a Pho place in charleston to eat at now! The staff is friendly, and the food is great. I particularly like the spicy Beef Pho. Also always call in your order. I did an online order and they kinda messed it up. It still tasted good though! read more

The best Thai food in Charleston hands down. Also possibly best curry I've had in general.

Took my wife and kids here for Mother's day. In the interest of full disclosure, my wife is Vietnamese, and a very good cook. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They did have a high chair, but being in such a small space, the only family seating is upstairs. Our 15 month old expects to eat as soon as you put him in a chair, and the food came out almost fast enough to satisfy him. I had the Bun (cold salad with noodles), my wife had the Pho (beef), we ordered the Com Chien (fried rice) for the kids, and at the last minute added the Pork Bun appetizer. The portions were small (with the exception of the fried rice) compared to the other Vietnamese restaurants that have existed around town, and were about 1.5 times the price of what you would pay in major metropolitan cities. I can pretty much forgive this because of the location. The Pork buns and fried rice were my favorites. The Pho was pre-seasoned with Hoisin, and just a little too much for our tastes. The Bun was short on lettuce, and really needed to be in a bigger bowl to be mixed properly. The nuoc mam for my Bun was not nearly enough, but I am confident that they would have brought me more had I asked. The Sirachi bloody mary that my wife had was very good, and the Pork buns were delicious! This is about the only Vietnamese restaurant in town. The Vietnamese cuisine is known for being fresh and cheap. They entrees we had were definitely fresh, but the price will keep our visits to few and far between. read more

CO - Mmmmmmmmmmm - Vietnamese Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

Upgraded to a 5 because we came here twice over the same weekend it was so good. And this being in a town FULL of amazing restaurants.

I went to Co for the first time last Tuesday with my friend and sat at the bar to watch an NBA game. I got the "beef pho mandu" appetizer and "bún bò hue" entree. Both were fantastic. The portion size of my entree was huge; it probably could have fed 3 or 4. The bartender Sam was very nice and helpful. She was keen to never let my glass of water get empty. The manager came by to see how our meals were and gave me a detailed answer and flavor profile after I asked him how to best incorporate the included side of red cabbage, bean sprouts, etc. into my dish. He later had to deal with the antics of a crazy pregnant woman who was trying to dine and dash, and he handled it with a sense of politeness and professionalism I would not have been able to muster. He later apologized to us for having to witness her tantrum. I'll definitely be back! Also, a review in the sidebar tells me "Heather M." is "pretty sure the restaurant is not ADA compliant." Welcome to downtown Charleston! Nowhere is. As for her assertion that "the stairs are flaming hot," I'm not sure how that's possible or how one would even be able to draw that conclusion without being barefoot. A glance at her other reviews - and the grammar and language therein - immediately compels me to not give much weight to her opinions anyway. read more

Absolutely lovely!! Jenniffer was our server and she was the most accommodating and friendly server I've ever had downtown Charleston!! 45 minute wait between appetizer and main course, still waiting for the main as I write this. Both noodle dishes. This is honestly pretty pathetic. Food (the app we got almost an hour ago) is decent but no one greets you upon entry it's rather odd. read more

Thee food here is good. The chicken lahksa was very tasty and flavorful, something you can't find in traditional "Pad Thai"/Pho places. The infused sake is very cool as well. The bubble tea is good; a bit overpriced considering how much ice you get in one for $3. Honestly, my biggest issue with this place is the service. It's seat yourself, which is OK, but makes it so easy to be ignored. We called ahead for an order and they didn't start making it until we got there. Maybe would be back, but wouldn't bring anyone here on a date for that reason. read more

I hadn't been to Co in years and I actually had never eaten here. We started with the pork and crab rolls. I usually don't care to mix proteins but it worked out ok, they were hot and fresh. We ordered the Beef Pho and the Bahn Mi with Pork Belly! Everything was hot and you could tell that it was made to order. We sat at the bar and the bartender was knowledgeable about the wine and menu! The Pho was good and way too much to eat at the time. Good thing Pho is even better the next day. It's a small place and I didn't go upstairs but they had the game on the TV downstairs so all was right with the world! It's in a good location and I will make sure that I go back before another few years go by! read more

Went to CO last night with a group of 10. I checked the website earlier in the week to see if they took reservations but saw that they did not. When we arrived and asked about a table, we were told there was a reservation, however the manager on duty really went out of his way to get a spot for us. Upon sitting, our server, Ted, couldn't have been more amazing! Not only did the food come out very quickly, but the split checks at the end were perfect! Would highly recommend CO and could not have asked for better service all around! Also, many great options for non-meat eaters! Thank you! read more

Sometimes the wait staff can make up for the food... not in this case. Coming in from Tampa we were hoping trendy would add a new flavor to some classic meal but we'd highly recommend keeping it traditional vs whatever is going on here. The curry was watered down and the flavor didn't pop at all. My wife and I shared spring rolls, I had to ask them to be removed from our check, no flavor and these should be served with a peanut sauce not the sauce they're using. The Pho, thumbs down, Korean bowl, thumbs down. Lastly, the waitress had to go up and down the steps to get items and didn't seem overly excited to get us sauces that should be already sitting on every table to begin with, sauce (Sriracha)and hoisin sauce. Not sure if the management should put some general stock upstairs or what would help but our kids had to wait 10+ minutes to get sauce and we had to ask twice. No one greeted us in and the waitress did nothing to make us enjoy our experience or make us feel welcome. Lastly the I ordered at mojito and it was far from good, think they left out the simple syrup but at that point we didn't want to keep saying anything to our waitress so I just drank it. They need to bring in an Asian food expert to try all of the dishes and take the feedback to heart or people will be wasting money on overpriced trend. Talking to local shop owners on that strip, they recommend going to chains because these places are tourists traps and they don't go there. 2 stars is honestly too generous here. My family loves going to dinner and if we get an experience, meaning good staff and friendly fun or good food it's a win, this was lacking both and they need to re-evaluate what their trying to accomplish, if the goal is sucking out cash from tourists, mission accomplished. Forgot to mention, appetizers came out 15 minutes after the rest of our food... read more
