Man, we wanted to like this place, but we were disappointed. Started off good--space is cool, is seat yourself & we had no problem at 7:30 on a Friday night finding seats for 2 people. The drinks were great--we both had the infused sake. The lemongrass one was good but the cucumber one was awesome. The problems started with the appetizers. It took a full 30 min for them to come out, which is pretty bad for appetizers. They weren't crazy appetizers either--mango spring rolls and the wings. The wings were great, when they came out. Really crispy and yummy. Our main dishes came out pretty soon after. I ordered ramen, which was pretty good, although the broth was lacking depth and the noodles weren't as chewy as I like. My husband's dish, the Korean bowl, was in his words "truthfully awful." And he's not one to bad talk a dish. The beef was burnt and tasteless and the rice was hard, like it was a day old. We packed up the leftovers in the hopes we can salvage it on our own, but we don't have high hopes. I want to try it again, but my husband isn't too keen. It's a shame, as it's a cool space with decent Asian. Maybe just don't order the Korean bowl! read more

This place is good. Great flavors and fun atmosphere, I like the seat yourself option. It just isn't very authentic, that's not a bad thing, it's just something to note. We had the udon noodles and pad Thai. I will say the pad Thai was way better than most I've had and the udon noodles were not over cooked. The chicken was inconsistently sized and therefore cooked. I had one really rubbery piece that was sort of long and thin, whereas other pieces were more chunked. The staff was very tired, and the kitchen was slammed so I understand. read more

Found myself in Charleston unexpectedly for a few days. After reading a nice review, I decided to walk to CO. After placing a to go order, I decided to enjoy a ginger mule at the bar while I waited. It was cold, refreshing & delicious. I ordered the Vietnamese Ramen & the wings, which I thoroughly enjoyed back in my hotel room. I come to Charleston often, and look forward to dining in the restaurant with my family the next time I'm in town. read more

We had the spicy pho and the Vietnamese ramen. Both were excellent!!! Definitely will have to come again next time we are in town.

I come to co all the time because I absolutely love the food here and the service is typically great. Unfortunately, tonight I found myself half of a bug into dinner. You read that correct. As I was eating my dinner, I found the remaining half of a bug. I went to the bathroom sick and vomiting. My group notified the server who was so kind who then notified the ''manager' who was the bartender. She came up and offered zero apology and expected me to pay for the half eaten. I am so disappointed because of the lack of caring and response that I got. read more

I've always loved Co, the food is spot on. They do a great job during covid satanizing the tables after each guest leaves, wearing masks, and blocking certain tables for great social distancing. They also have a scan menu that's easy to use and easy to understand. Our summer fresh spring rolls were very fresh! It was my first time trying the drunken Thai and it was a pleasant surprise. Our waiter was very patient and boxed our left overs for us nicely. Can't wait to come back! read more

I went to this place around my lunch break about 12:30. Upstairs seemed relatively busy so decided to sit at the bar. Service was slow (was there around an hour). I ordered the caramel pork Bahn Mi, portion size was very small. Food was great however, wish I could have gotten two! (would have been relatively expensive though.) Would definitely recommend getting Bahn Mi with appetizer to start. Bartender Josh was very nice and knowledgeable, seems like a great guy. Overall food was great but a tad expensive for how much you get (at least for what I ordered), would recommend coming during slower hours if you don't have much time to eat. read more

Before the pandemic, CO was a staple for me. My first visit back this past October was kind of a disappointment. I had the pho and my nephew had the pad Thai for kids and it seemed both dishes were incredibly spicy. Who makes spicy food for kids? Don't give me wrong I love a little spice, but we left hungry simply because we could not eat what we ordered. Additionally somethings smelled really bad in the downstairs portion of the restaurant and the entire time we were there five or six waitstaff sat in a large booth at the back of the second floor and gossiped loudly while they did side work. They were really loud and used some profanity which obviously would not be appropriate for a five year old to hear. Now that I think about it, was the food over spiced to cover up the fact that it really had no flavor? read more

The Low Country loves sweet sauce. I can appreciate that. But it doesn't play well with this cuisine. Service was exceptional. Atmosphere was lovely. This joint serves a number of dishes pointed towards the horizon of authentic - but it's difficult to see the stars. Beef and kimchi dumplings were delicious to me in the manner that I like really sharply salted spicy anything. The pork and crab spring rolls were good. Too large with not enough fresh lettuce and herbs to wrap them with seems less like an oversight and more like a skew toward the local ideal above the traditional. The "Korean Rice Bowl" is basically a bibimbap with a fried egg instead of a yolk. We had the beef version and sent it back when it arrived smothered in a delicious sauce that there was far far too much of. They graciously remade it with the sauce on the side and I would recommend this dish but not with the beef which was overdone and flavorless. The biggest problem for me was the Bun Xoa - my most favorite Vietnamese dish. Their version is over sauced, adds grilled onions, lacks peanuts (though they brought them at my request) and, with the added protein of their very sweet caramel pork, just didn't come together. The cilantro was all on the stem - but was fresh and plentiful as were the other vegetables. It had seemingly every element to make a great plate of food - but ultimately lacked the brightness of a traditional preparation. If someone asked me to meet them here - I wouldn't say no. But I'd be very careful about my order and probably be a pain asking for details and requesting omissions. read more

This place spoiled me when it comes to their Bloody Mary. I believe it was the Sriracha Mary. It was one of the best I have ever had. It was the perfect balance of spice and the Sriracha gave it a unique flavor. I have had many different variations on this drink but this was by far my favorite of all of those that stray away from the traditional. I have some familiarity with Vietnamese food and I definitely noticed that some of the ingredients were not traditional. Maybe it was to appease the clientele in Charleston. Most notably for me were the ingredients used in the Banh Mi. None of the vegetables were pickled enough (if at all). I was unable to perceive any pate either which is one of my favorite aspects of a traditional Banh Mi. Nonetheless, the sandwich was delicious in its own way. We also had the pork and crab spring rolls that were delicious and had a great texture. However the nuoc cham sauce was dumbed down a bit being a little too sweet, not having enough fish sauce for my taste. So why did this place deserve 5 stars? While I would have preferred some things differently, everything was delicious in its own way. It is a perfect fusion of Vietnamese and popular american cuisine that caters to the palate of the customers they serve. read more

hubby and i have come here numerous times, I think Co has the best beef pho in Charleston area. I have tried phuong, lotus, and mi xao for beef pho. we also always get the kimchee/beef dumplings which are delicious. hubby orders the ramen, which i am not to crazy about. the only thing here that i get alarmed by is when i see a stack of dirty dishes, i hope that this place is clean. i think it's b/c i am not used to seeing dirty dishes outside the kitchen. anyway, despite that, beef pho broth is great and better quality meat than pho in authentic vietnamese restaurants. read more

Came here for a rainy day lunch with a group. We started with the pork gyoza and kimchee gyoza - I only tried the pork gyoza which was nice and crispy. My friends enjoyed kimchee gyoza which was soft with a little bit of soup. I ordered a honeydew tea with the strawberry popping bob (I love popping boba), which was disappointingly warm when I received it, though topped with ice. Got colder as the ice melted but I would not order it again. For my main dish, I was trying to decide between the Vietnamese ramen bowl or the Korean rice bowl (sounded like a bulgogi bowl), and unfortunately chose the Korean rice bowl. The beef was seasoned well but a bit thick for my taste, and had pieces of burnt crust on it. The rest of it was just a bit plain and healthy tasting for me (edamame, bean sprouts, cucumber, shredded carrots) probably since I didn't want to use the sweet/spicy Korean sauce. My friend ordered the ramen bowl which I tried and it was delicious. Wish I had gotten that instead! The rest of our group tried the spicy pho, the curry laksa, and a few of the banh mis (caramel pork, short rib), which everyone seemed to enjoy. If I were in town again, I'd come back and get the ramen! read more

I will never look at a traditional salad again after trying CO's Vietnamese Chicken Salad! The Vietnamese Chicken Salad conisted of cabbage, red onion, shredded chicken, pickled carrots, cilantro, sweet lime dressing, crispy onions, prawn krupuk. I had never had a dish quite like it and I am happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised. And that was just my entree! We arrived just before Happy Hour ended on Friday evening so we decided to order a couple drinks and an appetizer. The CO signature cocktail, basically a martini, was actually quite delicious and apparently very popular during Happy Hour since it is at a special price of only $5.00. They had other options from their guava mimosa, house wines, and select draft beers but the signature cocktail is a great alternative to all the typical Happy Hour drinks. The appetizer we ordered was their crispy pork and crab spring rolls. It did seem to take a bit longer than usual to receive the order but once we did we were again very pleased. The portion size did not disappoint and neither did the taste. From the bed of lettuce and the pickled carrots, cilantro, and dipping sauce served along side, it is a very well composed dish. My husband ordered the Korean Short Rib Bon Mi. Allowing me the privilege of taking a small bite I have to say that it was quite delicious as well. It is a sandwich with braised short rib, kimchee, gochujang aioli, cucumber, pickled carrots, jalapeño, and cilantro served on a toasted baguette. The beef itself was tender and very flavorful with the tiniest hint of anise that perfumed the entire dish. Definitely a dish I would order myself. Service was good, ambiance was inviting and comfortable, overall we had a great dining experience. read more

Vegetarians take note: this place is amazing. The TOFU BUNS were interesting because the bun is fried rather than soft. I'm not a fan of Vietnamese soft buns so this was interesting to me. It was a little greasy, but the crispy rich texture was worth it. The insides were a little sparse with only one thin slice of tofu. However, this was nothing that a dunk in the amazing house sauces couldn't fix. Speaking of which, the sauces are to die for. The sriracha sauces is spicier and less sweet than typical sriracha, so if you're looking for heat this is it. My favorite, though, was the Singapore sauce. Perfectly balanced with smoky, spicy and sweet flavors. I will definitely be buying jars of this on my next trip to Charleston ($12/ea = a little pricey. Had to think about it, but now that I have, I think it's worth it). TOFU BAHN MI - The bread is what makes this sandwich. Again the insides are too meager, and have almost the exact same mix of ingredients as the tofu buns. Grilled tofu, shredded carrot, pickled cucumber, cilantro and sliced jalapeno. The insides could've been almost anything as far as I'm concerned. I was in this one for the bread. Perfectly crispy outside with a soft light and airy inside. The stars of our show, however, were the edamame spring rolls and the tom gha ka soup. EDAMAME SPRING ROLLS- I would never have ordered this without the waitress urging me to do so. I would've assumed that the edamame would be whole beans, which I am not a fan of. It wasn't. Perfectly crispy, fried, layered spring rolls, with a mash of vegetables inside that were almost a creamy consistency. The dipping sauce that comes with the spring rolls is sweet, but we used the Singapore sauce and it was fabulous. TOM KHA GA - this soup is fast becoming one of my favorites. It has a coconut broth with flavors of lemongrass and some sort of citrus (lemon? Lime?). Amazing. I actually could have done without the tofu in this dish. Next time I'll ask for broth only. It's that good. read more

Usuay I avoide "fusion" Asian places with different cuisines mixed in the menu, especially in the south. But two friends who live in Charleston highly recommended this place, so I came on Wednesday early evening. (Just after 6pm). This was a bit of a let down due to the service, but then tried it again the next day and the second time was much nicer experience. Food ordered: tuna taco (8), pork belly bun (7.5), kimchi and beef dumplings (6), summer rolls (7), and bun cap with steak. * Dumplings were good, and the kimchi sauce was interesting, but the filling was a bit tough. And very small (4 dumplings). * Tuna taco was fresh, well flavored. Something you would expect from a "fusion" place * Summer rolls were the best - fresh, flavorful pork, minty and herby with nice sauces. * Pork belly bun - not bad but not worth $7. The pork was good but not flavorful enough (if you have tried really good ones at dim sum places, you know what I mean), and the condiments were a bit lacking. Bun was pillowy and good. * Bun xao: mine was missing the spring rolls. The order got to my table too late so I had to take it to go, and somehow they disappeared while getting packed into the to go container!! The noodles were also kind of sad. Added beef was tough, not the nicely grilled sweet beef you expect from a good Vietnamese restaurant. * Laksa noodle - per the server's recommendation on the second visit. It was very yummy! * Malaysian wings - not as tasty as the description read. It was more like the "Thai" wings sold at every Thai restaurant, with the Thai sweet.chili sauce. Service: This was the not so great part on both visits. Leaving things out from the dish and putting it in the to go box? Not acceptable. I think need to hire more and better people. Also they need to communicate better between the servers and the people carrying foods, as they kept delivering the dishes to the wrong table. The dishes took too long, and it was hard to get a hold of my server - again , because the didn't have enough people for the volume of people they had. Vibe: Urban cool. Darkly lit. Bare brick walls, minimal decoration. Little smelly..(not the smell of food, but "dirty mop used for wiping the floor" Kind of smell.. Overall the food was good (or at least above mediocre) for a place serves a variety of different cuisines. I'd definitely try other things another time, if the service would be more consistent. read more

My first experience at a Vietnamese restaurant and it was not a disappointment! We were seated right away (they let us choose where we wanted to sit). We ordered pork & Ginger gyoza and edamame gyoza which were really flavorful. Although I'm not huge on curry, I ordered the Curry Laksa based on the description and waitress' recommendation. It was SO amazing. The flavors were incredible, perfect amount of spice, and the noodles were cooked to perfection. I was also impressed that they had a separate menu for vegan/gluten free. Not a large menu, but a separate one nonetheless. read more

CO - Curry laksa - Vietnamese Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

This place sucks. I know because I'm from California. I order the five spice pork belly, and my gf ordered the caramel pork. The portion size was awful. I had exactly six pieces of pork belly on my sandwich, and CO gave me sparing amounts of the carrot slices, cilantro, etc. Let me remind you that it was $8/9 for a vietnamese banh mi. Are you kidding me? In San Jose, the most expensive banh mi is $3.50. If this place has a little more competition, it would be out of business. Overall, CO was expensive, and the food sucked. There were too many hipsters eating there, too. I didn't come to Charleston expecting to see hipsters everywhere. P.S. Please take off those pictures of Vietnamese women. They're an eyesore. read more

I really really want to give this place 5 stars, but I cannot. Knowing how much it costs to make real phò, I can't see spending the amount they charge on a bowl. If the prices were lower, I'd probably be in there at least once a week or more. The portions and price are not industry standards. I've eaten from a LOT of vietnamese places. My likes: The atmosphere is great. If they needed more business to pull in revenue for the area, they could probably rearrange to add some more tables. There is an upstairs area that I didn't get to. I sat at the bar. The service was friendly when they would actually acknowledge me. My beer should never be empty for a long time. Also, I was brought my phò but had no utensils for a while. My dislikes: An overabundance of noodles, and not enough chicken, basil, onions, or sprouts. The price was outrageous. I have seen another reviewer also comment about this and say that it's probably the location. I disagree. In downtown San Francisco where rent is not cheap, I can get a super large bowl for about $7-9. So why do they charge $14? I could have 2 bowls in some places. I don't expect it to be as good as I make at home (I'll throw all kinds of yumminess in it from the Asian market), but I expect it to be as good as any other place or much much better for the price. It's not an expensive dish to make. If they lowered the price and fixed a few of the flaws, they would probably sell a LOT more and make that much more revenue. It's simple supply and demand. Lower the price, demand will go up. Right now it's just set at a price point that steers me from going back ever. This is unfortunate, because I really really love phò. I'll continue my Charleston quest to find excellent cheap phò. I can't wait until this place becomes diversified. read more

Good food, bad service. Went in for happy hour which Charleston City Paper reports starts at 3pm. We arrived at 3:57pm and were told happy hour starts at 4pm so we'd have to wait. We asked for menus so we could at least be ready to order when the bell struck, though I've been at happy hours before where the staff is happy to put in food and drink orders when it's that close and just ring it in to the computer at 4pm. Whatever. We then sat at the bar with our hands folded on top of the menu until around 4:06pm. It wasn't busy. In fact, two employees were standing a few feet in front of us. One of us knew we came in for happy hour, so he should have been on us right at 4pm. Even worse is at around 4:03pm that guy told the other guy we were there for happy hour. He pulled out his phone, so I'd assume he'd see it's past 4 and take our order. Nope, he started texting his friend. We finally put in our order, two $4 bites each and a $4 beer. It's a tough call as a server whether to get the beer right away and delay the food, or put in the food order and then pour the beer. Not sure what our waiter did, but he disappeared for a few minutes and came back to the bar. I guess he had to tell the kitchen staff directly our order? I don't know. OK, so then you should pour our beers, right? Nope, let's grab some glasses and pretend to clean them for five minutes before making eye contact with us and realize we never got our beer. I told my friend 50% chance he'd ask us what beers we wanted again. But no, he rememberd, so at around 4:13pm we finally got our beers. Pretty slow service for a bar with literally 2 other people in it. As a friend said, I guess it's easier to give good service when you're busy. The food came out pretty quickly after that, and it was really, really good. If we got good service, this might have been a 5* review. But the service was so bad, I almost walked out the front door when it was clear it was going to be painfully slow. I tipped lower than what I ever tip in this scenario. Hopefully this will be a wake up calls to the guys working to get their act together. read more

I like this place well enough. I was in with a friend for lunch. She Ordered the Yakisoba for $14, and I ordered the Lemongrass chicken Bahn Mi for $8, and we split an order of Gyoza for $5. Everything was delicious, I mean really, and truly delicious. Sadly that is where the positive experience ends. Our server was very cool, nonchalant, and a bit slow to take our order, get our meals out to us, and refill our water glasses (as a mater of fact we had to ask a different staff member twice for water). The food here is a bit on the spicy side, so a quick refill on the water is a must. As well, the prices are frightfully high for the portion sizes. I understand that this restaurant sits on King St. and they have a very high overhead, but seriously you can get all of the above mentions foods for half the price and all of the deliciousness elsewhere. If you are just walking on King St. , and happen upon CO, it might be worth your time to stop for lunch: After all EVERY restaurant on that block is overpriced, so you won't really do better elsewhere. I just do not feel that the exorbitant prices and lack of service are worth seeking this place out. I will not be returning to Co. read more

Vegan options! CO has their own Vegan Menu, which is smaller than their normal menu, but nonetheless nicer than most restaurants. The restaurant smelled amazing. It smelled clean and I'm sure there was some kind of fragrance in the air. The walls were clean and had a few large black and white pictures. We sat upstairs towards the back. The seating is communal. There's the bar seating downstairs along with a long high table and a small 2 seat table in the window. The 2nd floor is where most of the seating is located. They have long picnic type tables and 2 seat tables. Now for the best part, the food! We ordered the Edamame spring rolls. They came out cut in half on pieces of lettuce. Definitely different and delicious! My toddler loved them! I ordered the lycée tea. Yum! Doesn't need sugar because lycée is pretty sweet itself. Sadly, I left my to go cup behind. I really wanted the rest of it. We ordered the vegan tofu fried rice and the pad Thai. Both were delicious and the portion size was pretty standard for the price. Whenever I order pad thai, sprouts usually come with it but not this time. The fried rice had the sprouts. I wanted to try the strawberry spring rolls but decided to wait for something else. They aren't vegan and come with a Nutella dipping sauce. I'm not vegan, just to set the record straight but my hubby is. I heard they may be opening up a location in Atlanta. We loved the modern vibe and didn't mind sitting at a community table. What was super disappointing is that at 6 pm on a Sunday , they are out of Bahn Mi (that two in our party wanted to order ). This is a staple of Vietnamese food, and what a lot of people come to try. What goes wrong in planning your menu that's this happens? Really very disappointing. What we did order was amazing. Had pork belly sandwiches , shrimp curry, shrimp tacos and curry laksa. They were all super delicious. The specialty cocktails were all great. The bathroom was disgusting , smelled like old cat urine. There are tables pretty close to the restrooms, unsure how they could eat with that smell. The strawberry spring rolls were so so delicious! Wow!!! Honestly didn't want to give a review on this but I'm a bit sad and so disappointed with everything about this place. Don't get me wrong, but I'm writing this because I seriously thought to myself after I walked in, WOW what a beautiful place... but everything else about it SUCKS! Let's see.... I arrived, and door was locked, there's people inside, waiter walked by, didn't helped me, so I called, the girl talking to me came to the door and opened it for me, well my bad, the door was not locked, it was just super heavy. Lmfao! But that wasn't just it, the waitress said, sit at any table, um, OK, kind of weird we had to find our own table. no table downstairs, we walked upstairs, all table was dirty. Washed clothe on 1 and the others dishes still there. Oh, waitress came up and said which table? Really? OK fine sat down, ordered, waited more than 1 hour for our food, oh we order fried rice Togo, that came out really quick. Luckily me and son was not in a rush just hungry but waited that long was ridiculous. Food was way too salty. I think they must of accidently pour a jar of MSG in it. We ordered the Vietnamese Ramen. Tasted like those microwave Noodle bag or bowls. FOR THAT PRICE??!!!!! Fried rice also was way too salty, rice was sticky rice not regular rice. Holy fk that was salty. For that price, shrimp should of been grilled and not frozen from piggy wiggly. I gave a 2 because the place was so elegant and nice... food didn't match with it at all. I'M sorry food sucks. This my family's second time at CO, and we enjoyed it just as much as we did a year ago. We had the pork belly buns as an appetizer. Unlike your typical bun, these had less hoisin sauce (which I LOVED). A even though they didn't have as much sauce, they were still delectable and had good flavor. For dinner, I had the curry laksa and it was delicious. The curry broth is not too heavy, and they give you big portions which is also a plus. I also ordered a green tea with tapioca and did not enjoy it as much as I had hoped. The tapioca pearls were a bit hard in the middle as a result of not being fully cooked. Overall, it was a great experience. The staff was very friendly and the service was prompt. At the end we tried to get their spicy Singapore sauce, but sadly, they were out. Came in here today for 2nd lunch after sharing some brisket at Smoke BBQ down the road. At first I let my parents order and decided to sit this one out. When my moms Vietnamese ramen came out I knew I had to try this. I did - and immediately ordered my own. The pork broth was out of this world, and there was great great pulled meat and pretty good pork belly. Doesn't taste exactly like ramen broth since it doesn't have miso or shoyu, but the saltyness of the broth is reminiscent enough of ramen broth that it really works. This was nice and hearty, and delicious even on a hot day. Thank god for AC! Bathroom is nice and it is private. Service was good as well. Though we were the only knew here during the afternoon.
