Instructors are nice, patient, and really try to explain skills in basic words so everyone can understand it easier. The two classes go by fast and are pretty fun. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I really enjoyed Clutch Motorcycle Training program. It was nice to finish the Online In-Class course at home and attend the riding classes. Everything was thoughtful and safe. People at the office contacted me for required documents before the riding class to make sure I submitted everything. The gears I rented was in nice condition. Instructor Jennifer was fun and caring. Riding a motorcycle is really dangerous. Beginners can underestimate how important it is to be aware and constant about safety rules and state of mind. Jennifer really made sure everyone is focused and awake by being really loud in the very early morning. It should not be easy for the instructor to guide and teach everyone who are already adults. I wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle like a decade ago. I never got around to it, and then life happened. Recently I decided that I wanted to inject some new activities into my routine and Clutch Motorcycle popped up on my Facebook feed with their course. On impulse, I signed up! Shout out to Chelsey, Brian and Kevin- really focuses on safety - easy bikes to learn on (BMW 311 naked Bike) - can be for anyone with literally zero experience - only riding during morning or nights (it can get really hot in full gear midday) - as a student, I felt supported through the entire process - CHP endorsed and monitored - passing means certificate for the driving portion of the DMV test Overall, i recommend this to anybody who's curious about motorcycles or knows they want a motorcycle. Complete and absolute beginner with 0 experience in motorcycles. Only drive a car w a Class C license. I took the EMTC course - online modules and 2 days of riding. I had Jennifer as my instructor. She was great! She is upfront with you first of all, and will be direct with what you needed to work on. I appreciate her honesty, and she'll call you out on what she sees you need to work on. Overall recommendation, do not get into your head and panic. The anxiety is what caused me a lot of my faults. Trust what you are taught, listen to the instructors. Main lesson points learned from Jennifer: turn your head (into the direction you want to go), keep head up (avoid target fixation), clutch/throttle control is you best friend here. I was terrified to move the throttle thinking I was topping 60mph (when it was really 15mph). Got my 1st bike and I'm still nervous to take it out on the street, but the foundations I learned in this MSF course gave me the confidence and skill to practice in a controlled-environment before heading into the street. read more

I took my first every course yesterday and today. It was a two day class. Day 1, you are in a classroom with Carl at LB BMW motorcycles for the morning, ride at the range for 4 hours, then return to review more of the motorcycle handbook and take their written test. Day 2, you are only on the range and they run exercises and eventually take the driving portion, which if you pass, substitutes for the driving portion at the DMV. The teachers were pretty patient. I had Jennifer, Brian, and Aaron. They were all very good. The only problem is that the class had 12 people in it. I didn't understand why because I paid $ to be in a class of 6 people. This was a problem because everyone was going slow and there wasn't enough room to shift gears and go faster. Not to mention, I paid to be in a smaller class to get more attention since I have never ridden before. I did ok the first day and passed their written exam. Day 2, I ended up with a foot cramp and was sent home because I couldn't complete the exercise and because of that they wouldn't let me continue. I was really upset because I just managed to learn to shift gears and then they send me home. They need to take more time teaching people how to shift gears!!! How on earth can you learn to ride on the street if your teacher doesn't spend time on it and makes sure everyone can shift properly? Anyways, back to the exercise-I asked if I could do it during a 15 minute break, but they said no. :( I'm a teacher and am on Spring Break. I really needed to finish today but I wasn't allowed to. I emailed and called Clutch to reschedule but they haven't gotten back to me, and all because of a stupid foot cramp I have to rearrange my life (Day 2 is 5 hours). Another suggestion is to divide the class into levels, or have people return on a Monday to do makeups, or offer private sessions for people to make up Day 2. I was on exercise 15 and only had 2 more hours to go!!! It was just really frustrating that this had to happen. I really wanted to pass and buy a motorcycle but I guess that will have to wait. Advice: as for shoes, wear something that is light and covers your ankle like high tops. I wore big boots and they just weren't right for a beginner rider. And don't wear boots with elastic on the sides. I wore my Blundstones Day 1 and they made me change them. I would still recommend this school though. The instructors are fun and encouraging. They have a great set of bikes to use, and good incentives if you finish a course with them (for buying a motorcycle and other cool stuff). I just wish I was told that I had to finish at least half the exercise to continue. read more

I'm 54 years old and have always wanted to take motorcycle riding lessons, but never had a chance to ride a motorcycle in order to learn. I signed up with Clutch for their beginner class which I took this last weekend with my son. Kevin, Brian, and Tony were fantastic instructor's and helped us out as much as they could. They were very patient and full of helpful guidance. Unfortunately, I got over anxious/nervous during the final testing and did not pass. Called again to see what I could do to get in and test again. Marna at Clutch was a sweetheart and talked me through many things to help me out the best she could and she got me into another class just today. Jennifer and Tessi were the instructor's today, and again, they were very patient, very kind, and very helpful in making sure everyone learned the best they could and made sure everyone was safe. I greatly appreciated the attention and the help getting me through the class with a passing score the second time around. Very disappointed in this place. I know NOTHING about riding nor have I ever ridden a dirt bike, this was the reason I decided to enroll in this course. I am a visual person and I have to see and have someone explain to exactly what I have to do and riding a motorcycle is no joke. FANTASTIC course. I had never ridden anything on two wheels besides a bike and was super nervous to start but this class was so so good. The two instructors Brian and Jennifer were amazzzzingggg. Super knowledgeable, very experienced, great at conveying instruction, extremely good teachers. They did a perfect job at getting people started who have never stepped foot on a motorcycle. I never in a million years thought I'd be able to ride and though I still have a long way to go, I feel confident that I can get better after the basic skills that they taught me. I highly recommend this school, Clutch in Long Beach. I loved it. The teachers were so nice and accommodating. I got to ride a Yamaha V-Star 250 Cruiser and a new all-electric bike by "Zero". I passed the course and can now go get an M1 endorsement at the DMV after passing a written test. The best part is the motorcycle riding test at the DMV is waived, because what we are taught meets (and probably exceeds) the DMV's requirements. I can't believe how much I learned! They gave us so many skills to remain safe, such as stopping short during a turn without wiping out, swerving around unexpected objects, and slow turns and u-turns. The teachers were professional and pushed us to be our best, they were so encouraging. I loved all my teachers there. I have little to no experience riding (tried to get my license 25 years ago and mostly spent my time on the back of my husband's bikes) and I'm 50 years old and I am so happy I took this class. And it was sooo fun! I plan on taking more classes with them. read more

The 5 stars are for Amanda who is the business owner. My learning journey was bumpy. Without any riding experience, in the first day, I was kicked out in about half way because I did not turn my head enough. I felt it was a harsh call. I knew I needed to do better. I signed up 3 private lessons with Amanda. She was great. Weeks later, I took the 2-day lesson again. I felt I did good. However, I failed the test at the end because I did not drive fast enough during the sudden stop test. Well, it was a harsh call. I was going to take another private lesson with Amanda but she was out of town. She encouraged me to just take the test again. A few days later, I attended the 2nd day lesson. With all the practice, I felt more confident. The two instructors were Kevin and Richard. If I had them in my first day of riding, I would have passed. They were very patient and no yelling. I encountered a total of 6 instructors. My preferences start with Amanda, then Richard, Kevin, Ashley, Aaron, Jennifer. I would avoid Jennifer because she was dramatic, yelling...Somehow, some of them liked to yell across the riding range. Yelling could make students more nervous and non-productive. Overall, it is a good learning experience. I will go back to take some advance classes with Amanda, hopefully. read more
