From the phone call with Greg all the way to the classes and hands on sessions with the instructor Ted. I enjoyed and loved every moment with these guys, truly an experience I will not forget. Big props to Ted for leading the class and demonstrating how to properly learn and ride a motorcycle. Most importantly how to be safe and build skills. As a brand new rider I can't thank him enough for working with me and guiding me in the right direction. You guys rock! I have the skills now to start building up to become a more experienced rider. I will be 100% returning for more intermediate classes. read more

I just finished the URide training beginner class, and I would highly recommend it to new/anyone who considers themselves a beginner or maybe you have a bike already and want some extra practice. I had ZERO experience riding a motorcycle (there were a mix from none to some experience), and after the classes I felt very comfortable operating the bike. Also, the classroom portion was extremely informative. Shoutout to Ted, who was my instructor, he made the class really enjoyable, as he was very kind, knowledgeable, patient, and all around an excellent teacher. I felt safe the whole time - you ride the bikes at OCC campus for about 12 hours over 2 days + a zoom class for 4 hours on 2 other nights, and I met a riding friend in class...Again, 5 stars and am really grateful I took this class. I am excited to get my bike this weekend :)! Thank you so much URide and TED for giving me the knowledge and confidence to get out on the road. If you think you can buy a bike and just ride it home, consider learning all the rules of the road, invest in your safety, and take this class! HIGHLY RECCOMEND. read more

If you need motorcycle training (and you do), URide is the best! From the initial phone call with Greg, you will be set at ease by the easy going, yet professional tone set by all the staff. Greg will set you up with the classes, then you'll attend some online classes, mine were led by Ted. After the first online class, you head out to "The Range" for some riding. This class is geared for those who have never ridden a motorcycle before, so a lot of emphasis is placed on core concepts such as "the friction zone", "head and eyes", and "throttle and brake control". My riding classes were taught by Ted, Mark and Kip. (I retook the riding classes again for more experience after I failed the skills test the first time, which was no fault of the coaches, it was 100% on me.) The second riding class starts with the written test and then builds upon the first by adding in slow speed weaving in which you'll have to manipulate that friction zone, swerving which adds some body control concepts and quick braking. Ted got me to do a couple of stoppies during the quick braking training and that was a lot of fun! After the second class, you'll take your skills test, which is a demonstration of all the skills you have learned so far: slow speed maneuvers, swerving, cornering, and braking. Thanks to Ted and Kip's expert coaching and genuine passion for riding, my entire class passed the test! Thank you Greg, Ted, Kip and Mark for getting me out on the road, I'll be back for the Intermediate and Advanced classes after I get some miles on my new Z400!! read more

If you're thinking of getting a motorcycle, getting your M-class license, or riding on a "dirty" permit, please please please take this class! This course will teach you the basic fundamentals of riding, but also covers a few things such as body position. This information is well worth spending the $350 to get some solid basics under your belt and to keep bad habits from forming in your riding career. Even if you (think) you already have the skills to ride, this class will teach you about situational awareness and how to anticipate better when on the road. Ted is an awesome instructor and keeps the Zoom online classes as well as the riding classes entertaining with his sense of humor. He has a wealth of knowledge and is happy to answer any questions or concerns. The riding range is held in a large parking lot (Lot "E") on the south side of Orange Coast College (OCC) off Merrimac Way... very easy to find! read more

Ted was an excellent & patient instructor! He broke down the instruction into understandable bites. Great course to learn how to ride.

Ted is a lovely teacher! He is very nice and gives constructive feedback. He helps create an environment conducive to learning. I had fun learning from him. The class set up was streamlined and organized. They had motorcycles and gloves/helmets for us to borrow, all clearly organized by size. Admittedly I was god-awful at motorcycling. I ended up not finishing the course at the instructor's recommendation, which I don't blame them for at all. I genuinely don't harbor any resentment about that; I agree that it was an objectively good call. I was slowing down the class and clearly need to practice more independently. They have a policy that allows you to return on stand-by, which I think is very nice for them to offer. What dampened my experience was the other instructor, Mark. He was very knowledgeable on motorcycling and it was his first time teaching a class. He came off pretty judgemental. Although I can understand where he was coming from, I didn't appreciate the way he spoke to me when I was wasn't doing well. I don't expect to be coddled and I know I sucked at it, but there are better/neutral/constructive ways for teachers to give feedback. His demeanor was quite unpleasant and just made me uncomfortable during most of the class. Even though I didn't finish the program, I would say I had a mostly positive experience (sans Mark). I was able to ride for the first time, better understand where I'm at, and I still learned a lot. It also showed that I'm probably better suited for private sessions when learning something new, which is a good thing for me to have solidified. read more

So far so good!!! Finished my first training today. I started the morning out with out any confidence, not knowing how to use gears or really anything. URide Motorcycle Training - Motorcycles lined up at the beginning of class - Driving Schools Near Me - Costa Mesa, California

To be honest, my wife and I initially booked this course because we could not pass the drive test at the California DMV, we both have been riding for years. The rate seemed expensive, but after taking the course I feel it is actually underpriced and well worth the money. My wife and I learned much, much more than we anticipated. Skills that will likely save our lives in a real emergency on the road. The trainers Ted and Russ were very friendly, patient, encouraging and extremely informative. Their instructions were concise, clear, and you learned something with everything they said. I was so impressed, I think I will take the next level course. We invest so much in the motorcycle and gear, but forget to invest in ourselves. This course was the best thing my wife and I could have completed. read more

I had an incredible experience with Uride. I'm not gonna lie, I was shaking in my boots on the first day. I had never touched a bike and didn't understand what a clutch does. I can't believe how much I've improved with a handful of hours of instruction & practice. Ted and Russ were the best teachers! They're lowkey hilarious. I felt like they actually cared about my success and wanted to share their passion. I also love that this is a local, family run business. I spoke with Greg initially because I had the flu and needed to reschedule my session. He was flexible and compassionate when he didn't need to be. I'm truly impressed. And friends - if I can do it, trust me, you can too. read more

Ted and Russ are some of the best people I've ever had teach me in general. They aren't harsh, but they also aren't too nice. They give constructive criticism that comes off funny and light hearted. I will preface my review by saying that i have always been interested in motorcycles, but had never had the opportunity to ride one. I also had not ridden a regular bicycle in over ten years before recently taking this course. I went in to this experience with an open mind knowing that I could either fail miserably or enjoy what I am doing. I'd be lying if i said I was not anxious coming in that Saturday morning at 6:45 for the first day of riding after the prior zoom session. I am a larger guy, but luckily Ted had a 4XL helmet in storage that fit, and he provided me with gloves. He also assisted me in picking a motorcycle for the course that suited my build. Throughout the course, I was coached on how to operate the bike and make maneuvers efficiently by instructors Russ, Ted, and Lewis. In my opinion, it was much easier to learn than what I had anticipated, and everyone was patient with me. I ended up passing the skills test after day two even though I ran over a single cone during one of the tests. Not everyone passed in my class, so it is not guaranteed. I received my paperwork in the mail four days after the completion date. By taking this course, I learned that I do enjoy riding and will pursue my M1. The paperwork will allow skipping the driving test at the DMV as well as provide discounts on insurance and select motorcycle stores. If you are considering taking up riding and have no prior experience I will say it is possible to succeed if you respond to Ted's coaching and have decent coordination. I was very hesitant initially, but am happy to say I would highly recommend taking this class If you have interest in motorcycles or want to learn how to ride one. Thank you Ted, Russ and Lewis. read more

Highly recommend this motorcycle training school. The instructors are very knowledgeable and put a lot of emphasis on rider safety which I think is imperative, I have been riding since I was 10 years old and I still came away with additional knowledge on street motorcycle safety and riding. These guys are awesome. I took the training with Ted and had a great time overall. One of the nice things about this course was their dedication to safety and learning good habits. They are upfront with you in what they will teach, what they won't teach, and what they will and will not tolerate during the course. Ted has a great sense of humor and that was important to me as a completely new rider. If you respect the class, respect the instruction, you will have a great time here. Classes currently are class work on zoom and road classes at OCC. Their riding groups are restricted to 6 during Covid, so you actually get more riding time with the smaller class sizes. They are pretty booked up currently but sign up as soon as possible so you can get the certificate to waive the road test from the DMV read more

I say with absolute confidence the importance and value of this training. Back in my day, I rode big bikes on long summer rides. I suppose I rode well, no bad incidents, but here I enrolled in the beginning class to get back the feel of two wheels and a motor. I am glad I did. When we are away from frequent riding, we can slip into a sort of mind view of idealized cruising., Meaning, we mentally feel the connection of riding on the street. NOT true. The mind idealizes; the reality is, things change. Techniques such as counter steering, proper approach for turns; tight turns slow turns handling obstacles, to brake or not to brake in a turn, and why. Such things were not always presented or learned by riders. It may be pure luck no incidents occurred. Beginning class? More than that. This class breaks down the basic fundamentals of riding and handling your motorcycle REGARDLESS of your skill level. Nuances we may or may not have had or techniques newly refined are all-inclusive of URides instruction presenting the ESSENTIAL 'LIFE SAVING, CRITICAL' elements absolutely necessary to safely operate a motorcycle. I know from my own experience that ultimately basics will rule. Advanced training is built on the basics. So I fully trust the staff at URide to have my back. I am far better in all ways, from my having taken their course. Personnel? Kip: I did not train with him, but I watched a few hours of his class. I was fully impressed with his humor and excellent connection with the students and presentation of the course material. Especially impressive were seeing those who were timid, mounting a bike for the first time. I watched these 'cupcakes' evolve from fear and stress to relaxed control with confidence. That is amazing. Ted: My teacher. He is a total chill laid back funny guy, who expertly guided us thru the realities of riding, and potential mishaps. All of the possibilities were covered including avoidance and countermeasures. To know is to act with proper technique, and not be forced to scramble for lack of knowledge. Ted (and Kip) inspire the confidence essential to ride well. It became obvious there are better ways of riding than what many of us may have known or learned on our own. I spoke to old-school riders who never had such training or knew some of the specific skills necessary for our safety. Ted, helped me in a giant way, I think students feel his empathy, and that helps them replace apprehension with the confidence of new skill. Greg: I have to smile. Greg met me head-on. Of all the motorcycle school reps I spoke with, it was Greg who hit me with such a good understanding of my own weakness, and how to approach my training, I enrolled immediately. It was the best I could have done. All at URide care about each of their 'member students.' I saw timid beginners go from timidity to confidence with learned skills. I confidently trust URide as one of the very best MC Riding schools you will find. read more

Fun yet challenging...they say if it excites and scares you at the same time, then you should probably do it. And I did. I was scared because I've never driven a motorcycle yet I was super thrilled to be learning a new skill. The instructors for this class care about your safety and knowledge that they make sure to implement the most important guidelines so you can take them with you once you hit the open rode on your bike. The first night was a classroom lecture on half of the MTC handbook (which you are supposed to read entirely before this class). I'm glad it did. I was able to follow thru the lecture with more understanding and ask the appropriate questions. Ted was a super cool and funny teacher. He made our dreadfully anticipated Friday night WAY better. I mean, who wants to be in class on a Friday night right? But I'm totally glad I was there. You'll learn a lot of tips and rules of the open road. The next morning (Saturday) was riding day! The training started at 7am sharp! It was a total of 5 hours with breaks in between. Our instructors that day were soooooo freaking cool yet a bit strict. Of course they were, dude, they're teaching you how to ride the safest so you don't go hurting yourself! They were always watching everyone's every move too. Eyes up! Eyes up! That's one of the number one rules of riding. I finally got it down too. And the last day of training was Sunday. Another 5 hours of riding! It was all fun. Learning new skills and techniques and the safest ways to ride your bike. Test time finally came towards the last 30 min of riding. Oh boy was I nervous. But guess what? I passed!!!!! I was beyond ecstatic! Now time for some good quality gear and of course a new bike! Thanks to the entire team at U Ride for teaching me so much today! read more

First of all, I'm an accountant. Why am I saying this? It's because typically a person going for their M1 licenses are well, bad arse bar type people. But I'm letting you know that anyone can get their M1 license as long as you're determined to get it. This was definitely out of my comfort zone but I wanted to try it out as a spontaneous bucket list thing. Day 1 (zoom): You don't need to read the hand book prior to the session because the instructor (Ted) will go through unit 1-5 with you. Video does need to be on all the time but you're not required to have your mic on all the time. At the end of each unit, there are questions he will ask that's going to be the same ones in their guidebook. Ted won't call on you; he'll ask the class as a whole and some people will answer most of the time and others may not answer at all. Ted won't grade on participation which is great for those who are anti-social. Just as long as you listen to the answers he explains. Day 2 (riding): Wake up early and get there 15 minutes before 7am when class starts. You're sign a waiver (I didn't read it but that's the only way they'll let you ride haha). They have you go into their storage room to try out helmets and gloves, if you didn't bring your own gears. (Your own gears are not necessary). They do ask that you have shoes that cover your ankles and they will check that. But if you don't then they may have some spares to borrow but that's more limited in supply. Make sure you're wearing long pants without holes and long sleeves and slightly extra layer like a removable jacket because it does get cold in the morning (but it'll warm up in the afternoon). Your instructors (mine was Ted and Kip) will go over some rules and a brief overview on the exercise. I've never ridden a motorcycle at all so it was a brand new experience. Just FYI, when you choose your motorcycle they have lined up, you're sticking to the same one for the next day of riding. They start you up easy by telling you how to start it and operate it. Throughout different exercise, they'll stop you and explain the exercise, everyone will get on and they will so a visual demonstration without turning on the motorcycles and then when no one has questions, they'll have you start the motorcycle and practice it. Each time you drive pass them, they will give you feedbacks while you're riding. They'll point and say "Aim" or lift their hands to increase your speed. I'm very amazed with how they are able to give feedback to each person every time the riders passes them. Very efficient. You'll have about two 15 minutes break then they'll start the exercise again. By the end of my first riding day, I was NOT looking forward to second day because the fact that I had to wake up early again and then it only got harder from there because their last exercise required something called "counter-steering" and it was about pushing your handles the same side as where you want to turn confused me. So that exercise made me feel defeated. But at the end of the day, there was a debrief and I told Ted I wasn't understanding the push method and he said "we're doing more exercise on it tomorrow" which was probably why I wasn't looking forward to next day. Day 2 (zoom): After riding, we had to go back to our computers and similar to the last zoom, we went over units 6-9 (didn't go over much on the remaining 9+ units). At this point, anyone who didn't read the book or go over it, should because their multiple choice exam is the follow day. It's important to read their guide and not the DMV's handbook because there are some things that counteract with each other that you don't want to get wrong on the exam. Day 3 (Riding): They ask that you come in 30 minutes before class start to start on your exam but if you don't finish, you can take the remaining during break. Multiple choice is 50 questions and an 80% is required to pass. If you don't you can retake it again the following weekend. The multiple choice exam and be taken unlimited amount of times without cost. After the exam, we did more practice on different types of exercise. Around 11am after our last 15 minute break, comes the skills/riding tests. This was one of the most anxiety I've gotten in awhile. But luckily Ted said that if we fail the skills test then we can come back next week for more practice and retake the exam at no cost. Even though the website says $150 for retake, it all depends on Ted because ultimately it is his class. Riding exam does consist of 4-types they test you (which I will not say), but as long as you don't put your foot down, miss a cone, run over a cone, or stall, you should be able to pass without issue. For me, I put my foot down on one of the course but still ended up passing because I didn't mess up majorly on the other parts of the exam. Even if you mess up big, just keep going. Conclusion: Kip and Ted made this course fun, funny, and educational than I thought I could get out of this. read more

I took the beginner URide course with ZERO knowledge of riding or "on-bike" experience. I can not say enough how valuable this class was for me to gain basic knowledge, skill and confidence on a bike. Worth well beyond the $350 enrollment. The instructor, Ted, was awesome. He's a wealth of knowledge with over a decade of experience and is always willing to answer questions. He never belittles anyone or has any kind of authority complex, but instead has a great sense of humor while caring deeply about each students well-being and safety- which I greatly appreciated during my time there. I took the Motorcyclist Training Course at U-Ride and would highly recommend this place to others! The classroom portion was done over zoom due to Covid and it was okay. There was never a dull moment, they are both overall great instructors. I came into the course having zero experience on motorcycles. Didn't even know how to start one up before the course! Afterwards, I felt confident that I learned the skills necessary to practice on my own in a safe manner. Price: 10/10 Price wise, it's pretty comparable to all the other Motorcycle courses that I looked at around orange county. Instruction Quality: 10/10 No complaints about instructions on the course. I'm going to start off by letting you know that before taking this class I had zero, zip, zilch, nada, absolutely no riding experience whatsoever. Most I've traveled on two wheels was to middle school on a bicycle with a saxophone bungee tied to the back of it. URide's class was awesome! The two instructors I had for my classes were Ted and Kip. Both of them are extremely knowledgeable and great instructors. If you've never been on a motorcycle before the controls can be a bit daunting at first. Trust your instructor's guidance and by the end of the day you will feel more confident and comfortable operating the motorcycle you're riding. After you sign up you'll be emailed a safety handbook and the dmv handbook. I would suggest reading through the safety handbook before your first class. I found it helpfulI to have a general understanding of what we'd be learning about prior to diving in. The class room was taught by Ted and he offered a wealth of knowledge to everyone about safety gear, riding techniques, and the fundamentals of motorcycling. When partnered up with Kip on the training course I feel that they could literally teach anyone how to operate a motorcycle and do so safely. Riding the bikes in the parking lot is a blast! Specially once you get the rhythm down of each exercise and start to pick up a bit of speed! By the time the class was over I had passed both the written and riding exams. I spent all weekend on motorcycles with my class and it was so much fun. I miss the class already! Pay attention, be safe, and have fun! read more
