OG Dog - half mozzarella, half hot dog, covered in panko, dusted with sugar, and then ketchup (no mustard for me)
    Jeff H.

So this is a food cart that's attached to the Barn at Hickory Station. I saw it the last time we came here, but decided to pass then (mostly because there was a line in front of the window). This time I decided to give it a shot. The premise is corndogs, with or without a hunk of mozzarella cheese in it. There were several menu options, as well as a build your own. To build your own, you decide between all hot dog, all mozzarella, or half and half. Then you choose the coating: panko crumbs, potato, or ramen. After that, you can pick a "dusting." Sugar, hot Cheeto powder, or cheddar cheese powder. Then you pick ketchup, mustard, and/or mayonnaise as a drizzle over the top. They also have Korean fried chicken, with different kinds of sauces: spicy, garlic, honey BBQ, or buffalo. I went for the OG Dog. Half-Cheese/Half-Hotdog, rolled in panko and "dusted" with sugar, then a drizzle of ketchup. I opted not for the mustard that's suggested, as I'm not a mustard fan. I thought about it a while, thought about how it was a six dollar corn dog, and without thinking, ordered two. I also got a side of waffle fries. What I received was...well, I had to take a picture. The corn dogs themselves were massive. I don't know what they used as a the basis for the cheese, but it wasn't a skinny cheese stick, that's for sure. The batter was coated in crispy, deep-fried panko, and then it was COVERED in sugar. This was no dusting...this was a fried hunk of food rolled in a pan of sugar. Then a very aesthetic back-and-forth pattern of ketchup over the top. My partner, who was eating shrimp, had a half-horrified, half-amused look on her face when I got my tray. She asked what I was thinking; I said I didn't know. But what the heck. Eating this thing is an adventure in just getting it into your mouth. I'm not kidding when I say it was huge. I took a big bite off the top; I got mostly batter, panko, sugar, and ketchup. It was interesting. I don't know how else to put it. I held off deciding just then and went for another bite. Then I got a huge mouthful of cheese with everything else. I kind of expected the cheese and hot dog to be side-by-side but they were not; they were stacked end on end, hot dog near the base of the stick. My partner asked what I thought. It truly defied my expectations of speech. Language failed me. So I said: "The first bite tasted like a sugar donut, covered in ketchup." "Uh huh." "The second bite tasted like a cheese-filled sugar donut covered in ketchup." No kidding, I thought of a sugar donut where, instead of custard filling inside, it was cheese. And the sharp acidity of ketchup. I kept on going. Eventually I got through the cheese and into the hot dog. It was your standard hot dog. Also stuffed inside a sugar donut. My partner had tears in her eyes as I relayed this to her. She asked if it was any good. Truthfully, at the time, I said, "I honest to god don't know." So, she changed tact. "Would you get it again?" You know what, I would! It was so unusual. Common ingredients but put together in a new way, and very well done. The cheese was VERY good, the fry was excellent, not greasy or soggy. The coating was crispy and had a nice crunch to it, and the sugar made every bite sweet, but also savory. And the ketchup, as I said, had a real good acidity to it. Honestly, it had balance. But it also made me think of fair food. But in a good way! I did NOT expect to be having this for dinner when we came into the place that night. The flip side: I assumed it would be a narrow corn dog. After I ordered and sat down, I looked at my partner and said, "I think mistakes were made." After I ordered, I got a glimpse of someone else's and realized that the things were massive. Huge. I was thinking it would be more in size like those frozen ones from the grocery store. In the end, I ate all of one and a little over half the waffle fries. I started on the second one and realized; this was too much. I wasn't hungry and I didn't want to stuff myself. Plus, this food is -heavy-. Very heavy. All in all, very well-done food with a pretty interesting concept. I don't know how accurate it is that these are Korean Style Corndogs, done nationally in Korea, but I can buy the story. I think my kids would get a kick out of this and it's definitely something fun to try. Go into it like a kid trying something new and you'll probably have a good time. But stick to just getting one and go back for another if you want. I'm not kidding about how big these things are.

Everybody loves food on a stick! The Cluckin Dog provides that in spades. This is a food truck located at The Barn. In addition to dogs on sticks they also do fried chicken which we did not have a chance to try. These Korean inspired dogs are coated with a mochi batter and various other add-ons depending on the particular version ordered. We tried the OG Dog which is a half hot dog/half mozzarella stick creation dipped in mochi batter and panko, fried, rolled in sugar, and drizzled with sauces. The Knobby Dog is a full sized hot dog dipped in mochi batter, rolled in potato cubes, fried, dusted with cheddar powder and drizzled with sauces. Both were interesting and tasty. If we can, we'll come back to sample the fried chicken as well.

If you have never had a Korean Corn Dog (KCD), this is the place to change that. The last few years have seen an influx of food trucks doing Korean Friend Chicken. Few of those trucks do the dogs but at Clucking Dog you get the best of both these worlds. At first blush, the KCD is a corn dog who has been working out. Bigger than the traditional American State Fair fried food favorite, KCDs are distinct with the core potentially being cheese versus a beef dog. The differences do not stop there. Batters are commonly potato and, a first for me, Ramen!!!. Then there's the outside. My favorite is the brightly hued, orange dusted exterior, perfect for an Oregon State Beaver-lover to wave. This cheeto-dust helps add another snack favorite to the mix. We went with the all cheese, Ramen, and cheetos dusted treat. Our KCD was perfectly done. The crunch of the outside gives way to the warm ooze of the cheese. The temperature was just right allowing the elasticity of the cheese to stretch and give, expanding to a near two foot long tightrope from mouth to bitten dog. This was a tasty dog and was better than the KCDs I have had in Los Angeles. Do not forgot to add KFC to the mix. The chicken (I had the 5 piece) was a perfect balance to the dog. Once more, it was some of the best KFC I have eaten. Crunch or the outside, tender meat on the inside coming easily of the bone, the juices trapped in the crust waiting to be released on your bite. As a savory lover, the garlic breath was the right sauce, soy, sweet, garlic, brushed on to not drown but highlight the crunch and flavor of chicken.

I returned multiple times with proof of purchase, including my receipt, but was still refused service and denied the food I had paid for. It was not until the fourth attempt, after my wife personally contacted the manager, that I was finally allowed back inside and given my order. As someone who has worked as a General Manager for several restaurant chains, I found this situation completely unacceptable. The level of unprofessionalism, disorganization, and lack of customer service displayed by the staff was shocking. Customers should never be denied access to food they have already paid for, especially when they can provide proof of purchase. This experience reflects poor management, inadequate employee training, and a disregard for basic customer service standards. I hope ownership and management address these issues to ensure no other customer is treated this way in the future. I will be contacting "American Dairy Queen Corporation" for further reviews and discussion Can't believe a fast food joint such as " 2710 PACIFIC BLVD SE Albany, OR 97321" would allow this... this is definitely poor management!!!!!!! Not to mention the altercation I had with a Red headed gal that was the "manager" for this location balled up and threw my receipt at me Very sad I'll make sure to tell All of my family and friends to never dine here again!!! Very sad!!!!

I should have went to a regular ice cream shop to get my monies worth! Also disorganized at the process of making the orders. An employee carried 3 cups with some ingredients in her arms against her shirt to another area to get more ingredients then to go back to the other area I guess to finish. Was not feeling the disorganization and the unsanitary way of moving the product being created!
