Luckily for me, a quick web search revealed that Yoga-4U was an easy drive from my home. Kim returned my voicemail the same day, and worked me in to her schedule that week. When I arrived at her studio, I was greeted by a personal message on the door, and a lovely area for storing my shoes before entering. Inside, the studio was spacious, clean, and peaceful, with music quietly playing and a water fountain gently trickling. Kim explained a little about restorative yoga, and provided me with a clean eye mask and a sock used for grounding. She also asked whether I was okay with essential oils, which she generally uses during the sessions. I especially appreciated this, because I am very aroma-sensitive. During the session, Kim clearly explained the process of assuming the required positioning, and expertly arranged bolsters to provide the needed support. During a subsequent session, I was having more neck pain than usual. Kim adapted on the fly, changing her plan for the session to avoid placing any further stress on my neck. Kim is a warm presence, a caring professional. I really didn't know what to expect from restorative yoga, but under Kim's guidance, I find it to be very revelatory in terms of identifying the areas of my body where I didn't even realize I was holding tension. They closed the water area every 30 min to allow the next group of people in line in. But before they did that the lifeguards wiped down all areas of the play structures. It was a process but nonetheless the kiddos had a great time. Luckily, I had extra clothes for the grandkids to change out of, otherwise we would have to play in the dry playground while hearing and seeing the kids enjoy the Splash Pad. The playground has their rules and regulation posted on the gates. The restrooms are just outside of the play area, so very convenient. There is nice green grass in some areas and some picnic tables and stationary benches. I believe on of the rules is that you cannot set up canopy's, but I did see people set up a couple. I don't know if they have someone police the area if people are abiding by the rules. It wasn't a bother to anyone but I'm sure there is a reason for having that rule. The play area is nicely padded. The play equipment is nicely spread out where you could really view your littles as they run free with your close eye on them. There are different areas with equipment that is age appropriate. For sure I would return. Plenty of parking, it is clean and the grandkids and I love it here!

Mission Bay's where it's at yo! And that makes this the go-to for some of the best jetskiing you can experience in SD and I'd say SoCal in general. I found the Pilates Passion website and thought what the heck, give them a call. I scheduled my first private session with JD- I was comfortable, not intimidated at all and worked up a little sweat- I was surprisingly sore the next day. JD showed me some really great tips on breathing which I try and do at work and in the car. I've taken sessions with the owner, Anne Marie, as well and she is such a positive guide and lets you know how to maximize the moves to get the full effect- the rear end kicks are killer! I am NOT a gym rat- I go when I have time, sometimes I'll go a few times a week, sometimes less, sometimes not at all... depending on my schedule and mood. I will continue with Pilates because it just feels like therapy for my body. I never dread a session which is a fantastic sign. Some other Pilates studios, especially in the Rancho Bernardo area, are very cold and intimidating but not this little studio. I don't stand for snooty-ness and this place is not like that at all. Give the first free session a shot and maybe you'll get hooked like me. If not, you didn't lose anything and can be proud of not knocking it til you've tried it.

I come out of that class completely drenched and usually go straight home to shower and change. In all the studios and classes I attended before Soul Pilates, I had never experienced that level of intensity and consistency from every class. I really wanted to love Soul Pilates in Scripps Ranch because their concept is wonderful especially…read morethe childcare option. Being the first pilates studio with onsite childcare while you work out is such a thoughtful and much-needed service. However, my experience in the beginner reformer class didn't quite match what was advertised. The class moved quickly into exercises that felt more intermediate to advanced, including the use of multiple props. As someone who at least knows the basics of the reformer, I was able to follow along, but I could see how a true beginner might feel lost. Another thing that stood out to me was that there was no initial check-in about injuries or physical limitations, and there wasn't much guidance on how to properly use the reformer before we began. In the couple of classes I took, instructors also never mentioned maintaining a neutral spine, which is usually one of the most basic and important cues taught in beginner Pilates to help prevent back injury. A friend of mine who attended their pre- and post-natal class also mentioned doing crunch-type exercises that her OB-GYN had specifically advised her to avoid due to abdominal wall concerns. Prenatal and postnatal fitness can require extra care, so that feedback made me a bit cautious as well that the instructors aren't as well versed. Overall, the environment and staff were kind, and I truly wanted to like this place. The childcare offering is amazing and something that makes the studio stand out. I just wish the classes were more aligned with the beginner-friendly description and included a bit more safety screening and foundational instruction. With a few adjustments, this could easily become a fantastic and supportive studio for people at all levels.

The 50 minutes flies by, and you can give it as much as you got, or take it easier on yourself. The weight portion of the class is customizable to your comfort which I love. Boxing is the only thing that lets me destress, and the combination of great music, a skilled instructor, and the club like studio where you can get in the zone is the best work out. I like this location because you can pop into Trader Joes or grab a healthy quick bite form one of the many restaurants in this plaza.
