Go for the workout, stay for the camaraderie! I started going in my mid seventies and the changes to my balance, coordination, and endurance are simply astonishing. The instructors are all knowledgeable and uber attentive to the varying levels of skill in the room. I never feel pushed to keep up with the 30 year olds and there is always an option to do the exercise differently, if needed. Loved this studio. It's been a couple years since I've been here. I've practiced pilates for almost 19 yrs...started with mat in from of the TV;) I am also a former yoga sculpt instructor so I am quite picky with my pilates and yoga workouts. The studio is a decent size. They offer reformer and mat pilates which I like. I took a reformer class that day with modifications due to an injury. The instructor was friendly and helpful. It was an effective workout and it felt nice and cool in there. I stopped going to all in-studio classes after covid hit due to the mandated mask policy and just workout at home. It's rather hard to breathe with a mask but hopefully the mandates will be lifted soon so I can come back. I've considered doing the teacher training program before but didn't have much time due to a heavy work schedule but keeping it in mind for the future! read more

THE BEST! I have been going to Poway Pilates for four years. This is my first, and only, organized class that I have ever loved. Good for beginners and expert levels. An exuberant shoot out to instructors, Sarah and Angella! Different styles, but each bring knowledge and enthusiasm to their teaching. Angella is creative and in tune with the class. I love this place! Needed to try something new and was welcomed by Sarah in her beginners class and she is literally the nicest person I've ever met! Shes also been so incredible for my new mom journey! She was so patient with me when I needed adjustments as my belly grew. And when I signed up for a class and couldn't go because I was so nauseous. Poway Pilates has gone downhill considerably since I started coming 2+ years ago. You will notice most of the reviews are from several years ago when the studio was under different management, and had different instructors. Almost all of the good instructors have left, one by one. The instructor who teaches the majority of classes at this point has no business in a pilates studio. She puts the students at risk of injury with very non-traditional exercises in contorted positions that are far beyond the skill level of the class. Any competent pilates instructor would tell you if you are not strong enough and flexible enough to do an exercise properly, the wrong muscles take over, and thats how injuries happen. I tried to speak to the owner about this several times, and she was not interested. The final straw was while in a class I asked the owner to look at the students struggling with an exercise, as the instructor was laying down on a reformer and not observing students (as she always is, she is never looking out to see if students are able to do the exercises she is instructing), and the owner agreed with me. The instructor then yelled at me, in front of the entire class that "I teach the way I want to teach, and if you dont like it you can leave". So thats exactly what I did. I had been a member for two plus years, and am just trying to keep myself from injured. They dont care, and the quality of the teachers reflects it. read more

I have been going to Poway Pilates for about 4 months now, and I would not be exaggerating to say it was "Love at first sight!" I've been dealing with a back injury for over a year and I'd about given up hope that I would start to feel "normal" again. I went from an active person who would jog or walk several miles every day to laying on a couch getting weaker by the day. Then my husband said I should try Pilates. I saw a groupon for Poway Pilates and it was like a sign! Then I went in and met Sarah (the owner), took a class and the rest is history! My back still leaves me in daily pain but I feel stronger and I enjoy the workouts! There are classes that are geared towards individuals that have back issues which help strengthen your core, arms and legs. The classes have made such a difference in my life that I bought a year membership after a month. I love Sarah and the other women in the classes. They're are all very supportive and friendly. There are other classes as well but so far I've only taken Pilates. I highly recommend Poway Pilates! There are also pilates classes for teens which I think is great! read more

I started out as a Pilates "newbie" at Poway Pilates a few years ago, and I really can't recommend Pilates (and this studio) enough. The owner Sarah, the teachers, and the community of folks that attend this studio make it really special. No two workouts are the same and the teachers are all very attentive even in group classes and are good about reminding you to pay attention to what your body is feeling that day and suggesting modifications if needed. Prior to coming to Poway Pilates, I may have tried one pilates class somewhere else, way back when, but was essentially a complete beginner when I came here. I work late so I always took Jill's Monday or Wednesday classes at 6:30. I have the flexibility of a 60yr old and was concerned I would not be able to do the exercises but Jill was very helpful and most importantly, would correct my posture/form if needed. Although it was apparent I was the newbie in each class, I never felt embarrassed and always felt great after the work out. Unfortunately, I am currently recovering from surgery and am unable to go to classes for the time being. BTW, don't forget to spray and wipe down your equipment after class and I recommend purchasing the socks with grips (they have grips to put on the equipment if you want to go barefoot or prefer to use your own socks). This is a great place for anyone interested in trying out reformer pilates. read more

I went to Poway Pilates when I was on in the San Diego area for work. I took a group pilates class from Sam along with a group kettlebell class taught by Jennifer. The classes were great and so were both Sam and Jennifer. Both teachers were very focused on form when performing specific movements which was fantastic. When doing any sort of functional movement its key that your form is correct such that you can (1) benefit most from the movement and (2) avoid injury. Next time I have another work trip to SD I plan on returning for sure. read more

Jennifer is fantastic as an instructor. She is knowledgeable with how the body should move and how to help you attain more flexibility for the parts that aren't functioning correctly. I started at her studio because I had hip pain, but eventually she showed me why the problem was there and encouraged me to go to physical therapy. She will either try to help you or recommend what the best approach is. That to me is someone with integrity. She cares about your health. I can't wait to go back. read more

I began at Poway Pilates during my time on disability from an uncontrolled respiratory illness. I am not able to do any cardio so my Peloton bike sits at home untouched. I have done mat pilates at one of my employers who offered classes during lunch time. Although I had this background I did not feel comfortable jumping in to a class using the Reformer without proper instruction. (Not only am I a long time athlete, I was a gym rat for years and learned body building from a natural pro body builder). Proper technique is key! I took 5 private classes from Ni who is a world champion gymnast from China. Ni not only understand Pilates from training, she understands proper technique in order to get the best results as well as a good workout. I was ready. I have been taking classes from all of the instructors at Poway Pilates in the year and a half I have been there. What I like best is you can speak to the instructor before class, tell them your limitations and they will help you get the best out of the class for you. It is like having a private lesson with 10 others around you. I feel like I am being instructed with competent, professional people who by the way, make you smile and laugh here and there too. I leave there with a good sweat too! I want to also mention I have found a cheer leading squad at Poway Pilates, from the instructors and the women. This is a place women complement and support other women. There are all ages, sizes, shapes and backgrounds who readily share their experiences and who care. This little Poway studio is wonderful. And if you aren't quite happy with your class, speak up! These women, Sarah, want to help. I highly recommend this place! read more

I am absolutely in love with Poway Pilates! I love the pilates reformers so much, they are the best thing ever! I use to have a lot of back pain because of the type of work that I do, and this is the only thing that has ever really helped. Everyone here is so friendly, and they all really know their stuff. Jennifer is amazing at pushing you and doing some great leg work! I also love Angela as well, she is great at that pelvic floor work! I really can't say enough about this studio. Jennifer is an experienced instructor who cares about your health and well being! Through private 1 hour sessions, she helped me come back from a serious arm and elbow break which required 3 hrs. of surgery and 8 months of physical therapy. I was able to continue the strengthening of my arm after the physical therapy and have been in the best shape I've ever been in my life since I started working with Jennifer 2.5 years ago!
