I was with a friend of mine and we sat in at the bar for a cocktail and had the extreme pleasure of meeting Renata, the bartender. Her professional courteous personality overwhelmed us immediately. This review is for the hotel only. I stayed at the Clevelander south beach hotel. I stayed up late the night before until 3am because that is what you do here, it's about the night life. In the morning I was trying to sleep but the hallway outside my room was extremely loud with room service, staff walkie talkies, and most of all, the slamming of doors. Every 2 seconds I can hear a door slam. I finally got up and had to look to see the reason. It is housekeeping. I have stayed at hundreds of hotels in my lifetime and staff are usually aware of keeping noise levels down for patrons, including using door stoppers and closing doors slowly. Not here. I as I write this the doors have slammed 20 times more, VERY loudly. It's nerve wracking, even when awake. I don't want to complain about this because housekeeping is a very hard job that doesn't pay well, and the staff are lovely. But the noise level is ridiculous and this is a management issue. In addition to the noise, the other issue is the room is small and sparse. There is no carpet in the rooms so maybe that adds to the noise issue. When I first walked into my room I was overwhelmed with the smell of chemicals from floor cleaner and there is no way to open the windows to air it out. I'm a single woman traveling alone and the hotel door did not have an internal lock nor was there a "privacy" sign available. I felt very vulnerable and was worried staff would walk in on me during the time they turn the rooms over. Bathroom is teeny, no tub. Just bare basics. Bed is comfy. No bed lamps, coffee maker or ice container in the room. They do have a safe and a small tv. I asked for a late check out and they told me they could let me check out only one hour later for an additional $75.00 fee!!! Overall, a rather unpleasant hotel experience read more

My best friend and I had the day off together and decided to come hang out on Ocean Drive for drinks, sun, sand, and food. Our first stop was Clevelander. It was early, around 11:30 am on a Wednesday. The place was completely empty, maybe one patron at the bar. We got a seat and our server approached pretty quickly. We were provided menus and after a few minutes my friend decided on a mojito and I got the Famous Frozen Rum Runner w/ extra shot. Each were $13 plus $2 extra for an extra shot. The price was reasonable, BUT they automatically add a 20% gratuity, 2% Miami Beach tax (?), and the regular 7% sales tax on that - making the drinks come out to $20 each. Too high, in my opinion. The cups were not even that big at all! The drinks were good and strong, but just too overpriced. We sat and enjoyed our drink and chatted until they were done; then paid our tab and left. Overall, Clevelander has a fun vibe and a good location on Ocean Drive. I would not be opposed to visiting again, but it would be to stop in and have a single drink, and then move on due to those prices. Let's face it, as Miamians we're forced to play host to out-of-town guests more than they host us. Be sympathetic, they might call some ironically named placed like Paradise, TX or Livengood, AK home. We're really the ones living good in paradise. From their LED brightened living rooms, fist-pumpers are going strong at dawn during Ultra and Bravo depicts year-round alfresco dining on Real Housewives. When they finally arrive, the challenge becomes finding somewhere that falls between their expectations and reality. The Clevelander fits right in the middle. If I had a dollar for every time my don't-know-any-better friends were denied access to some over-glitzed South Beach bar because of dress-code violations, I'd probably have enough to buy a pretty sweet longboard. With it I'd kick and push my way down Ocean Drive with my under-dressed visitors, laughing maniacally as I ran over Reef-sandaled toes. Cackling like an evil villain parches the throat, luckily I know the Cleve will let me, my anarchist mode of transportation and sun-burned buddies in for guaranteed good times. It's so many things I can probably tell you what is before I could tell you what it isn't. The beach bar / hotel lobby / pool-party / restaurant has an egalitarian, everybody's welcome vibe that attracts people from all walks of life. You're just as likely to see a sports fisherman in his signature head-to-toe Tommy Bahamas, as you are a Yachtie swirling cognac in a 90-degree weather-defying blazer. The kind of place you can find spring-breakers and off-duty nurses from nearby Mount Sinai Hospital sitting at the same table drinking a Rum-runner out of a fishbowl. There are a dozen frozen drinks at the Game-On sports bar, but my go-to is the Raging Bull, a vodka-energy drink Slurpee that much like in Super Size Me, if I'm asked for a $2 floater, I always say yes. Order a Big Boy Drink and you'll think you've been collectively zapped by the Honey I Shrunk the Kids laser. An 80 oz. flower vase shows up with Hi-Lighter colored straws bobbing in a mixture of Don Julio tequila, Grand Mariner, OJ, and sour mix. You may initially balk at its $75 price tag, but it's money well spent when shared. Plus how much is 24 hours of Instagram stardom worth to you? The next day you'll woke up way too early on a leather couch wearing wet shorts, holding half a cup of coffee that obviously didn't work. If you never want to sleep get a room at the Clevelander Hotel. But who wants to sleep if they have a room that sits firmly in the nucleus of South Beach?! If you haven't been recently, you're in for a treat. They've spent a gajillion dollars restoring it to its Art Deco heyday and journeyed into new territory like a rooftop bar called the C-Level if you prefer highballs to high-fives. Every time I have a friend who is in town they ask, "where should I go in south beach?" Sometimes the list is easier to tell them where not to go, but I always, always make sure they stop at the Clevelander. Ocean Drive is own for its terrible service and mediocre food and while the food isn't my favorite here (if you do eat, pack some Pepto for after) the atmosphere is amazing and the drinks are good. If you catch them on a happy hour your frozen drinks are half off. Even as a local, when I'm here, especially during that time, I feel like I'm on vacation. $15 bucks (happy hour) will get you a margarita/ daiquiri the size of your head! And it's delicious. Probably the best thing about this place is the people watching. My suggestion: get there a little early, grab a good seat, order a big frozen drink, sit back and get ready to laugh your ass off and what you'll see. Oh, and there is a "sexy pool". I don't know if the pool makes you feel sexy, if you have to be sexy to get in the pool of what. I've never been in said pool, but maybe one day. They also have a big dance floor to watch people get their boogie on (yeah I said that). Just go there and have fun and make sure you have a drink in your hand. This may be one of the best if not the best place on Ocean Dr to kick back, go out and have a good time. The vibe here is pretty chill and varies from day to day. During the day, there is a great restaurant that serves some good food at a decent price and during the night this place turns into an outdoor nightclub with some awesome music! What trip to SoBe is complete without a visit to the Clevelander?! While I'd absolutely never stay at their hotel, we had a great time partying it up at night. No cover, outdoor music, right on Ocean Drive, and a makeshift dance floor right over their swimming pool (which, by the way, was FILLED with empty cups and napkins...yuck). Service is fast but there are no prices next to anything, so expect a rude awakening when the bill comes. Oh yeah, and tip is included, which I have serious problems with, but that's the standard down here, so I'll save that for another rant. Stopped off at the familiar Clevelander with my guy on our recent trip to Miami Beach during the day and it was a completely different crowd and vibe. We sat at the bar and ordered a couple fun drinks. I ordered the Miami Vice with a shot of rum "floater". It was perfect for the sunny day and about $13, which is less than most drinks on Ocean Dr. My guy ordered a couple beers and a shot of 1800. This place didn't live up to the hype. My cousins and I went on a Saturday night. Drinks were ridiculously expensive and tiny. I tasted no alcohol whatsoever. The bar attendant was attitudinal and acted kind of airheaded. Music was not poppin'. I guess the dj was trying to be inclusive, but the music was horrible. One minute it was pop. Then it was a hot moment of hip hop. Then it was some strange house-type music. Then it was Latin music. Then there was a reggae mix. This club is definitely one of the most popular ones along Ocean Drive and around Miami Beach. When we we walked by during the day time, it was super packed already and I made a mental note to circle back at night. Come night time it was decided that we would hit up Clevelander after stopping by Mangos. There was a cover fee if we wanted to enter the downstairs area, but luckily they also had a rooftop area that was free. The view from up here is quite amazing at night since you get to see a lot of Ocean Drive and the beach also. There were also lightening storms in the distance, which made for a spectacular show as we were dancing the night away. The music here is a mix of mainstream music with Spanish music. When the mainstream music was on everything was great, but everything else was kind of meh. After we left the rooftop area, it must have been a lot later because there was no longer a bouncer for the pool area. We decided to checkout downstairs also and the DJ here was much more mainstream. The dance floor is a lot bigger and we can order drinks/food downstairs. The rooftop only had a small drinks bar. read more

This past venture to Miami which was my 11th time there made it to Clevelander the first time ever! Wow, have I missed out over the years! Rating on the bar and not the hotel itself but the Clevelander is THE SPOT you wanna go to when you're not too much into the club scene and wanna avoid spending money to go to Mansion and Liv, not too much into the touristy scene and wanna avoid places like Mango's and the Deco beach restaurants. Clevelander is the place you wanna go to when you wanna drink, meet people, don't have to dress up and not worry about being "past your age limit" to be there. Drinks are F'N awesome...had the Deco Beach Margarita and the Carribbean Rum Punch...and was BEYOND pleased. Decent prices, gorgeous bartenders/waitresses. Friendly staff. Hugh TV to watch the games of the day. Cheerleaders, great DJ, bumpin' music. It is all someone can ask for in a Miami hot spot. Not to mention the place is super colorful, no dress code and with the exception of Friday and Saturday nights there is no cover charge! I don't know how I have gone so long with NOT coming here and how ironic that one of the best nights EVER I've had in Miami was here on my last night before heading back home this past Sunday. I don't know the next time I am coming to Miami being that I have to the age where I really wanna venture out to new destinations especially outside of the US, but rest assured the next time I may it back to South Beach whenever that is and whatever age that Clevelander will be my first and last stop while staying in Miami! Sunday night may 6th. Check for stuff on this shift. Had a bad experience here. Me and my friends were here second time, first time was great when we went to the dance floor we told our server and he was keeping our drinks but the second time our drinks were taken away as well as the hookah even tho we told our server that we were gonna be there, we were just going to the dance floor ( service were excellent no complaints about that, girl (Brit) was amazing and she was fighting for us) but manager was so rude. He told me right in the face that "we are so annoying cause they're about to close" and he just could get us 20% discounts which is not valid for taking away more than a half drink and half drink. The only thing they're telling us is they are not responsible for tables and everything that's going on there but they should be responsible cause at least we gave a heads up. Moreover how could they not be responsible if they position themselves as a bar with the dance floor. And like how do you imagine going to the bathroom with drinks and hookah? My group felt very accommodated, and we enjoyed taking advantage of the many hotel amenities (i.e. free drink vouchers, free bike rentals, free coffee and croissants every morning, free towel rentals) . Do not let pictures fool you into thinking this hotel is nice. It is the smallest, dirtiest hotel I've ever stayed in. The pictures online make this place look like 5 star suites, when I saw the room in person I was so sad and depressed. The rooms look like some kind of foreign hostile. We booked a double bed suite and our room was the size of a smart car. The sheets weren't cleaned. The flooring in the room is concrete. The bathrooms are old and outdated. Although she was nice we didn't get our food until 8pm, at this point we were committed. Food was mediocre at best, guacamole was disappointing, bang bang shrimps good but only got 6 tiny shrimps for $18... overall overpriced, you can't pay based on service because they collect up front 21%, 7% tax, 2% tax #2.
