We waited almost an hour after our appointment time, but it all made sense when we got to see the doctor. Dr. B patiently sat with my grandmother for around 2 and a half hours. She asked her a ton of questions about her hearing issues, current hearing aids, and general activity. She is also the only doctor that has ever spoken loudly and clearly enough for my grandmother to understand. She tested my grandmother's hearing in a soundproof booth, and explained in great detail what her issues are and what could be done about them. I should mention that my grandmother is also legally blind (which throws off a lot of medical professionals), but Dr. B taught her how to use her hearing aids by feel, which was amazing! My grandmother got new hearing aids, as well as a tester pair to use for a week while they were being built. We had some personal issues in the interim, so it took a while for us to pick up the new hearing aids, but Dr. B's office was super kind and flexible! We also got to try them for a few weeks at home before we had to pay for them, which we were able to do over the phone. Fair warning that the office is in the basement of an apartment building which is NOT handicap accessible. There is a ramp to get into the building, but there are two or three small steps to get to the office. The office itself is also small, but my grandmother's wheelchair just barely fit in. My grandmother's hearing is much better, and we are very happy with Forest Hills Audiology!

Dr. Boruhkov provided thorough testing and explained everything in a way I could understand. She was incredibly kind and attentive, listening carefully to my concerns and making me feel comfortable throughout the entire visit. Dr. Boruhkov took the care & time to teach me about my new hearing aides and answered my questions and concerns without judgement. Dr. Roxanne Borukhov and Dr. Kathleen Kalschmid both possess professionalism, knowledge and humor; traits that create an excellent hearing healthcare environment. I was set up with my new hearing Oticon devices. I'm still getting used to them but during my second visit, I received adjustments that made a helpful difference. The ladies at the reception desk are professional, kind and helpful as well. It isn't always that you can find these qualities in my experience. On a side note: On my way to the office, I slipped and fell . I hurt my hand and arm. Kristen at reception, fixed me up with a bandaid, Bacitracin and a cup of water. Dr. Kalschmid checked my arm and hand and talked to me until I calmed down. Dr. Boruhkov did the same. They go above and beyond to make their patients feel seen, heard and taken care of. I recommend Forest Hills Audiology!

I thought it might be allergies since my hearing was just slightly impacted. I made an appointment, and I was happy her office was in my neighborhood. When I arrived, I was the only one waiting. The receptionist was very sweet and professional. The waiting area and bathroom were very clean. The wait to see the Dr was very short. Dr. Z was very kind and explained what she saw after reviewing my ear history. To my dismay, my left ear was filled with wax, ugh. My right ear was fine. The Dr. recommended an ear cleansing that wasn't covered by my insurance. I paid the fee after googling to check out the rates for the cleaning, and it was correct, lol. Baby. that ear cleansing felt amazing. I wanted the right ear cleaned, but the Dr didn't recommend it. Lol. It truly felt like a spa service for my ear. The Dr. showed me all the wax that came out. My left ear really felt clean and clear. Thankfully, I passed my hearing exam with no issues. As we get older, we really have to be thankful for everything that works well physically and mentally. I would definitely return to meet with Dr. Z regarding any auditory issues.

I just finished a visit with Dr Y at Universal Hearing Center and I cannot RAVE about him enough…read more He was incredibly helpful and carefully explained my hearing aids, the options and instructions--Not an easy task as I am a senior woman with very limited technical ability and these were my first hearing aids. To be honest, I had been both confused and frightened. Full disclosure: I initially wrote a negative review. I had not seen Dr Y at the Office, but someone else who failed to provide needed instructions , the office was in the midst of a renovation ( now completed) and there were other issues. Fortunately I later spoke to Gladys at the front desk and she contacted Dr Y, and returned today. Unfortunately, I received no acknowledgment or reassurance, and I did not feel welcomed as I tried to schedule an appointment. When I called back to offer feedback (Gladys), her only response was, "Ok." I then told her to cancel my appointment since I planned to take my business elsewhere, to which she replied, "Not a problem." I have since chosen to work with another local vendor who demonstrated much greater understanding, warmth, and inclusivity.

I was extremely disappointed with my first time visit with Dr. Larry Shemen…read more I had an episode of Vertigo, for which I called for an ambulance to the ER at LIJ Northwell in Forest Hills, and was admitted to the hospital later that day. After a two day stay and extensive testing with clear/negative results (EKG, CT, MRI) the attending doctor at the hospital recommended that I follow up with an ENT as an outpatient. I was referred to "Dr." Shemen by a friend, a nurse who gave him excellent reviews. The "Dr." informed me that I have Diabetes. His comment was based on blood tests from my hospital visit four days earlier, in which my glucose levels were successively 138, 103, and 110. He mentioned that I checked it off as a condition on my 'new patient form' but hid it from my view when I questioned him about it. He clearly does not know what he is talking about and made an arrogant & presumptuous diagnostic mistake. He had no test results in front of him for A1c levels. I informed him that neither my primary care doctor, of 20+ years, has ever diagnosed me with Diabetes, nor did the hospital make any such mention of my glucose levels being high or that I have said condition. He asked what I did for a living, and when I told him my profession was guitar repair, he informed me that I had hearing damage "from being around loud guitars all day," without administering one single test. He also informed me that my vitamin D and B12 levels were low, again without those levels being present in the hospital blood test records. My blood pressure and vitals were never taken during this visit. He looked into my ears with a hand held scope, and told me my ears were fine. He did not administer any tests for my middle ear or inner ear. He informed me that my problem with vertigo was not caused by my ears canals, it was metabolic and that he would not treat me further until I saw my primary care doctor for blood work. I saw my primary care doctor the following day, who dismissed every 'diagnosis' from "Dr." Shemen. My PC reviewed my blood tests from six months earlier; my glucose, vitamin D and B12 and A1c levels were all within the normal range. He commented that they could not possibly have changed so radically in that time till now, so he did not see how that diagnosis could be concluded without current tests for "Dr." Shemen to compare. Needless to say I will not follow up with Larry Shemen, and I hope he eventually gets his license to practice medicine.
