To be honest, I had been both confused and frightened. Full disclosure: I initially wrote a negative review. I had not seen Dr Y at the Office, but someone else who failed to provide needed instructions , the office was in the midst of a renovation ( now completed) and there were other issues. Fortunately I later spoke to Gladys at the front desk and she contacted Dr Y, and returned today. I will Try to Delete that first review , but if anyone sees it, please IGNORE it as its continuation is solely because my technical incompetence. PS --the Office is easily accessible from Manhattan ( for me the Q to the F and then a very short walk -- with the temptation/possible incentive of nearby outlet shopping and reasonably priced restaurants.)

I had high hopes when I made my appointment. I said that I needed hearing aides and provided all…read moreof my insurance information, repeating that I required hearing aids. I explained that I was disable and used a power wheelchair and asked if the office was accessible. They assured me that it was but that I'd need to go to the concierge at the building next door and they would bring me to the office "the back way" . When I got there I was taken up two small flights of steps using a portable ramp (and nearly tipped over backwards on the ramp going up the first steps as the incline was too steep) and was taken to a room the size of a medium sized walk in closed. Once in the room it was obvious that the wheelchair would NOT fit through the door. The owner asked if I could sit in an office chair and they would roll me into the office. I said yes. Only then did they tell me that the were not in network for hearing aids using my insurance, but that they could do a hearing evaluation, and I'd have to get hearing aids somewhere else if I wanted to use those benefits. I asked if I'd need to have another hearing test at the place dispensing hearing aids. They said yes. I told them that I wasn't interested in paying for a test that wouldn't be useful to the process, and that I had been misinformed that the office was accessible, that it clearly was not, and that I had specifically said twice that I needed hearing aids, and was clear in that I used a power wheelchair. The owner told me that "many wheelchairs fit throught the small doorway", but acknowledged that this had been a problem in the past. I was furious, but kept calm and said I had to leave before I became unpleasant, I was so angry. They apologized. I wasted all of a morning and part of an afternoon. On the way out through the back on the ramp again I almost tipped trying to go down the ramp when the ramp slipped down from one step to the next and my chair very fortunately did not tip. I sucsessfully got down the second set of stairs but not without fearing greatly for my safety. It could have ended with a serious injury. This situation was more than inexcusable. First not telling me that they were not in network for hearing aids before came resulted in an absolutely wasted trip, which for someone in a power chair is extremely difficult. Being frankly intentionally lied to about accessibility, and almost being seriously injured by inadequate adaptive equipment and negligence/ignorance on the part of the connecting building staff. I will be making an ADA complaint with the city and whatever government agency are relevant about the audiology/hearing practice as well as the building next door, so that others don't have the same experience or risk injury. This is inexcusible.

The exam was comprehensive, and everything was explained with patience and clarity. When we returned two weeks later for the hearing aids, Audiologist Suzette Xie took the time to gently guide my mother on how to use and wear them, making sure she felt comfortable and confident throughout. The fit was excellent, and my mother can now hear clearly again. Conversations now feel natural, and the simple relief of not having to repeat everything has made a huge difference for everyone in the family. We're truly grateful for the care and attention she received. The office has a very friendly atmosphere, and the staff were accommodating with no attitude, even when I needed to make a last minute change to my appointment that day. SCAMMERS I received…read morean invitation from the Lexington Hearing and Speech Center located in Queens. The letter was very impressive and repeatedly mentioned completely free testing. I took a day off to go there, but upon arrival, they asked for my health insurance in order to proceed with the testing. I wouldn't have gone if I had known this beforehand. This is a scam--they lure you in with a "Special Invitation" and then require your insurance for the testing. Do not trust them and waist your time! I wasted my time on their nonsense, which was very disturbing. The lady I spoke with on the phone was extremely impudent and had no shame in conducting this scam. She lacked basic human values and continued to present their deceitful practices as truthful.

I've found Clare Villanueva to be everything I want in an audiologist. She's patient, takes the time to understand your hearing loss. She suggests the best solution which is not always the most expensive option. When I had some difficulty with an aid one evening I contacted her the next day. Instead of having me wait until the following week, she managed to squeeze me into her very tight schedule that day. I wish all my experiences with doctors had been as productive as it's been with her. She works out of two locations, one just off Washington Square Park in Manhattan and the other in Brooklyn, both easy to reach via public transportation.
