For less money than I paid my last pool service Clear Expectations does more and I don't have to wonder if they've been by or bothered to vacuum the pool. Yep, my previous service felt that getting the debris out of the pool with a net was sufficient, no need to vacuum, or sweep the walls - no wonder the pool kept turning green! I really wish I had changed sooner! Clear Expectations hasn't missed a week and I don't have to hound them to do the work they are contracted for - and the pool looks terrific! I live in the heart of La Jolla in a Spanish-style building with a seven-foot tall fountain in the center of the courtyard. When we decided we needed a professional service to maintain the water and quality of the fountain I first tried different service. After two months of not showing up when he said he would and other major problems (I could go on and on) we decided he was a flake and had to let him go. When I saw the positive reviews of Clear Expectations here, I decided Matt and the staff at Clear Expectations were a good bet. Believe me, as a professional biochemist having formerly run a division of a biotech company, I have very high standards and when I give Matt and Clear Expectations five stars, they've earned it! Matt was incredibly professional; has detailed knowledge of water treatment, the mechanics of pool pumps, and how to best maintain pools and water features; and is incredibly reliable. He even offered advice about changing the way the fountain water is circulated and other ideas to better our experience. I had electrical and plumbing issues on my older pool/spa/waterfall, and have had 2 other pool repair companies out that could not even diagnose the problem....let alone solve them.. After googling and calling several others, I was having trouble finding a company that would come out for an electrical issue. Many didnt have office staff or return messages, and of the ones that did say they did pool repairs on their websites, they actually wouldnt unless they were doing a full remodel. I finally looked on Jandy's website to find an authorized repair company and Clear Expectations was the only one that answered their phone. They were professional, listened to the issues, and set an appointment with me for between 7am-8am. Based on experience with others I have had, I expected a no-show or a call putting off the appointment. Instead, Matt showed up at 7:20am as promised. He was extremely professional, personable,and knowledgeable. Witihn the hour he was there, he not only diagnosed the problems but he ALSO fixed a few of them right on the spot. He then stayed longer and answered multiple questions that didnt even benefit him. They didnt even charge me for the hour! Matt and his team at Clear Expectations clearly went above and beyond expectations on the resurfacing work they completed on my pool. They completed the work punctually and left me with a truly spectacular pool that is a marvel to look at let alone swim in. Matt was extremely attentive to all details along the way and the entire process was excellent. I can honestly say they were a pleasure to work with. I would also recommend seriously thinking about mini pebble over alternative surfaces. They are very professional, and our pool has been super clean and good looking. While my husband was out on the road during the hot summer of 2015, I really needed a help cleaning and maintaining the pool. I am so glad that Yelp had reviews on pool maintenance. It was easy decision to call Clear Expectations after reading some good reviews. There always be some negative ones whether they are legitimate or not. The first phone conversation already gave me a good feel about the business, and the rep who came over completely impressed me with knowledge and professionalism. I received a quote email right away, signed the contract, the maintenance started, and all is well. We've just had lights replaced in the pool by Clear Expectations since Sun Pool & Spa Supply failed to complete the warranty work. (It's a long story to be written on the latter's review...) I've received estimate for the lights the next day, and they were very good at answering all my questions. Clear expectations planned and built a new pool in our backyard. They were professional, on time and were very good to work with. Construction began early in May. We were swimming mid July. My wife and I met with many pool builders. The bids were all fairly consistent. Our final choice came down to the fact that Matt was reasonable and responsive. He was a really good guy to work with. For us, this is very large and expensive project. We knew there would be bumps in the road. We had pool service with Clear Expectations for some time and had communication issues. We discontinued service with ample notice and a week later they sent out our pool technician. Case in point, Clear Expectations does not communicate well with their customers or their technicians. Super impressed with this company. I have been using them for over a year now to service my pool and spa. In that time, the pool has been rock solid. As was the case mentioned by another below...I was recently told my pump broke and because I chose to order one online (not cheap $1,200) and get repairs done without using their company they have since been trying to recoup their money EVERY which way possible including NOT sending the normal pool guy to do the start up which was already agreed to and paid for UNLESS a new increased rate contract is signed. What a shame! Not to mention they quoted me $8,000 for stone repair that I was able to get done for $2,000. AND they wanted $500 to fill my pool. A job The requires putting in a hose and turning it on. It's a Friday afternoon in July and I'm going on 3 months of no pool usage thanks to Clear Expectations. It's Clear they expect their High end clients to pay HIGH COSTS. Bad business. Very Bad. Please save yourself the aggravation. Wow! I just can't thank Shawn enough for being there when I needed service for my rental unit! I had an issue with my spa on Labor Day weekend and after calling numerous places on the 3 day weekend, I received a return call immediately from Shawn! Clear Expectations does NOT do the service that the owner personally guaranteed me. They seem to consistently send a different tech...whom often is in the learning stage. The pool has algae buildup and repeated emails to owner for a remedy go unanswered. I was promised that an experienced tech would be assigned to my pool and that he would not be rotated out...which seems not true. I am on what II think is my 4th tech to date and my pool has never looked worse. The tech spends just minutes at the site. The company has no problem scheduling services (filter cleaning etc) and billing immediately but does not respond to customer issues. They also charge you for the weeks during thanksgiving and christmas for service that they don't provide..so you end up paying for a two week vacation for the staff. I cannot recommend this pool service to anyone. read more

I have an issue with my brand new pool lights, which haven't work a day since they were professionally installed (they were not installed by Clear Expectations, so no fault of theirs). However, Clear Expectations is the warranty company who is supposed to replace them for the manufacturer. It took over a week to get a call back from them, and I finally spoke to a gentleman there last Thursday. I explained to him that I have been trying to get this issue resolved for over a week, and no one has called me back. The gentleman assured me this was the first he had heard of the situation, he would be ordering the new lights as soon as we got off the phone, and he stated he would be at my house on Monday. He further stated he'd call me on Monday morning to let me know what time he'd be arriving. I had to work on Monday (today), so my dad came to my house at 9:00 am to wait for the pool guy to arrive. At 11:25 am, when I still hadn't heard anything from the gentleman at Clear Expectations, I called and left a message on his cell phone. At 1:50 pm, I still hadn't heard anything, so I called and left another message. I then called his office, and the lady said she would try to call him, since he still hadn't arrived at my house. Shortly thereafter, I sent a follow up text message requesting an update as to when he would be arriving. Finally, at 3:10 pm, I received a text message from him saying he apologizes but he had an employee get hurt and he wouldn't be coming today. He also stated in his text, "I am going to order two new lights". In my return text, I said I accept your apology, but I wish you would've let me know sooner. This is frustrating because my dad has been waiting at my house all day for you to arrive. I also stated that I thought he was ordering my lights on Thursday when we got off the phone, which is what he had previously said. He responded back "My employees are important to my business and they WERE ordered". Well I hope and understand that your employees are important to your business, as they should be, but what about your customers and the time they spend waiting for you to arrive? I guess that is not important? I'm not sure what time the employee got injured, and I understand things happen, however; I would've appreciated a text as soon as he knew he wasn't going to make it to my house, not at 3:10 pm. Especially since he told me on Thursday he'd be calling me Monday morning. And, if the lights were ordered on Thursday, why did you say in your text "I am going to order the lights". That sounds to me like the lights have not yet been ordered. This is my first experience with Clear Expectations, but it hasn't been a positive one thus far. read more

When I called to discuss my wants and needs with a pool cleaning service, the staff was so professional and attentive that I instantly felt like this was a company that would treat me as a close client and just not another number. Since having Clear Expectations, my pool has never looked better (even with all the wind daily we have been getting) and I am constantly being complimented by others for how it looks. I hired Clear Expectations, based on the great reviews, to install a new pool pump. At first they were great, they took care of the installation quickly and at a fair price (for that, they get 2 stars). However, when some problems started arising with the pump, everything changed. I started calling and e-mailing them regarding a leak, at the beginning it took various calls and days of waiting to hear back from them. Finally, they came back to "fix" the leak; but whatever they did, it didn't work. After more than a month, the pump is still leaking and I cannot get them to answer my calls or messages; even though I have e-mailed the owner directly a number of times. My intention was to keep this company as my weekly service, but after my experience, I will definitely look for someone else to do my cleaning and to fix what they wouldn't. read more

I wanted my single speed pool pump changed out to a variable speed, found one on Amazon for an excellent price and then looked around for someone to install it. Found Clear Expectations online and decided to email them for a quote....which came back to me in no time and very reasonable. Matt answered a ton of questions I had over email in a very responsive fashion and also alerted me to a SDGE rebate on the pump I had. I finally had to cut my losses. After having this company remove my equipment, so I could put a concrete slab down and then re-install the equipment, it still took three visits to get everything installed per the agreement. Equipment back in place, reusing what they could and replacing what they couldn't. I found wiring not connected (pump ground), the heater didn't work (bad reconnection of the power lines) and a leaking and faulty temperature sensor (a 20.00 part that they offerred to fix after the fact for over 100.00 dollars!). So I said enough was enough and stopped my service with them. For what they charge each month I should be able to expect better workmanship and attention to detail. While they did solve my Algae issue from my previous maintainers, there was nothing but difficulties when it came to them doing any sort of preventive maintenance or additional work. read more
