It's actually really impressive how bad Cleanly is.
Pros:
- good response time.
- customer service attempts to resolve issues properly.
Neutral:
- generally offer credit for mistakes, which doesn't help if you want to stop using the service.
Cons:
- treatment of clothing is terrible (stains, damage, etc.)
- consistent delivery issues (delayed deliveries, delivered to the wrong place, misplaced items).
- incorrect charges for uncleaned or incorrectly cleaned items.
To summarize my complaints, I'll actually include excerpts of emails I've sent to/received from support@cleanly.com below (chronological order).
1.
Me: I sent a suede leather jacket for dry clean with my most recent order (#XXXXXX), which was not cleaned. I just noticed on your site that you specifically do not dry clean leather -- this is my mistake.
However, I was charged for the item ($13) which was not dry cleaned. Can I receive reimbursement for this item?
2.
Cleanly (after 2-3 day delay of delivery): I'm reaching out to you this afternoon because I'd like to schedule delivery of your dry cleaning items that were not delivered with your order. I'm so sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
3.
Me: I'd like to voice a concern -- I think one of the items I sent out with my laundry actually returned a bit dirtier than when I sent it out.
...
I've attached pictures of the item -- basically, it appears to have small black dots/smudges all over. I am fairly certain this was not the case when I sent the item in, and after some brief testing just now it appears I am able to remove the smudges by scrubbing with soap and water. The item was specified for hang-dry, so potentially this occurred when hung to dry or during the transportation process?
Another question -- for both of my orders so far, I've requested that the items be delivered to my apartment and not the front desk/doorman (I've even added delivery instructions to do so). However, items have consistently been delivered to the front desk. Is it actually possible to have items delivered to the apartment number?
Cleanly: I am so sorry to know that the driver left your items at your doorman. I also feel bad that your blouse was stained as this is never our intention and not at all the sort of experience that we want for you or any of our customers to have with our service.
Regarding the delivery, our concierge should always follow your instructions. To compensate the inconvenience, I have applied $5 Cleanly Credit to your account which you can use in your future order.
4.
Me: I'm sad to be reaching out again so soon, but we've actually had another issue with our most recent order. The relevant number is XXXXXX -- the order was initiated yesterday, 7/__, and returned today, 7/__.
After unpacking the items, I noticed there were some oily(?) spots on some of the items -- two pairs of shorts, and several pairs of boxers. I've attached pictures of the shorts, and can also provide pictures of the boxers if necessary. The items are definitely washed (one of the shorts had some dust and dirt on it prior to being sent in), and appear otherwise clean, but perhaps came into contact with some substance before being transported to us? They were packaged with other items in a plastic bag as usual.
Is there anything that can be done about this?
(Cleanly offered to re-clean the items and successfully removed the stains after washing 2x and dry-cleaning. They also discussed reimbursement plans if the items could not be cleaned completely.)
5.
Me (after clothing delivery was delayed 3 days from expected delivery date): I just received another message notifying me that my laundry is still not done and will be delivered tomorrow. Do you know when I should actually expect my items to be returned?
6.
Me: In my most recent Cleanly order (#XXXXX), I specified some items for hang-dry. However, one of the items was not hang-dried (it was washed and dried normally), and furthermore, I was charged $13.50 for dry-clean of part of the item that was not hang-dried. I have provided a picture of the relevant item and the piece I was charged dry-clean for; please note that the "belt" is literally a piece of cloth, and that after its return it now has pieces of torn thread hanging off of it.
I also found damage on another of my items (torn threads, also), which I can provide a picture of on request.
In addition, I have repeatedly asked for my items to be delivered to my apartment, and they have consistently not been. Only one (out of the 9 orders I have made) was delivered to my apartment, after I asked repeatedly.
Please do not offer me credit, as I do not intend to continue using your service if I can avoid it. Please do reimburse me for at least the $13.50 that I was incorrectly charged on my previous order.
Apologies for the aggressive email, as I'm sure the person who responds to this is likely completely not at fault for these mistakes. read more
