They ruined my beautiful and expensive suit (dry cleaned) and blamed me that it was from me wearing a purse and/or deodorant, which from the picture you tell me how is that even possible!?!? It's clear to me they used wrong product that made discoloration on my suit. In addition, they didn't even have decency to make it free, they still charged me silly $12! I have not written a Yelp review in a while - mostly because I frequent the same places over and over, and feel that if I do not have anything to add to stellar reviews there's no point in me placing a review. This said... I'm sad to be writing an unhappy review of this place. I had been a customer of Clean Green for many years. I've brought them delicate vintage items to be cleaned without issue, I've brought them items for alteration, I've brought them suits, coats, etc. At most, I've been unhappy with how I've been treated with regards to alterations (the woman who does the alterations is condescending and rude verging on combative, and the work is careless), however I'd been otherwise happy with this shop and continued to give them my business. In general I would have given them 4-5 stars until recently. Recently, I picked up a beloved (irreplaceable, designer) dress from them, which is worn and cleaned about once a year. This was the first time they had cleaned this dress, for in the past I had had Madame Paulette do the work. I wanted to give this cleaner my business, as they are local and have done good cleaning work on irreplaceable items of mine in the past. When I inspected the dress (stupidly after paying!) I realized that they shrunk my dress. I asked what happened, to the same woman who does the alterations, and why they cleaned it if they thought it would shrink. (Note that when I dropped the dress off for cleaning I stressed that this dress is special, and had already been shrunk by a bad cleaner many years prior, and for them to not clean the dress if they thought the dress would shrink again.) Her answer was to blame it on the fabric for shrinking, and she stated that they used the same chemicals as the other cleaners that usually clean this dress (which is not true if Madame Paulette had not shrunk my dress in the past!). When I asked for some sort of help with the dress, and was treated with utter indifference and apathy ("what do you expect us to do, this isn't our fault, it is the fabric that shrunk"), to which I became upset with their lack of caring/concern for ruining an irreplaceable garment. I was berated for getting upset and for "being disrespectful" to her/the shop "as business people of 47 years". They did not offer to help me fix the dress, refund the cleaning costs, or anything else. They simply shrugged when I pointed out the dress had shrunk (as witnessed by the lining). The dress, cocktail (knee) length, is now overall about an inch shorter/smaller than when I dropped it off. Seeing as it had been properly cleaned without shrinkage before, by a very reputable cleaner, and with shrinkage by what turned out to be a not good cleaner, I KNOW that this is the cleaners fault. So now, I'm with an irreplaceable dress that has shrunk, and am short the $18 "cleaning fee" on an item that they should not have cleaned. I will not give them my business again. read more

The owner is super friendly to talk to, and interesting to hear his experiences of opening at green cleaner. I heard about how dangerous regular dry cleaning chemicals are if you are around clothing that emits vapors on a daily basis (not to mention how much worse to work in the direct factory). I did both dry cleaning and tailoring here. The tailoring turned out more expensive than I was initially quoted.. i mean they aren't chinatown prices, but $_$. in the end i am happy with my end result. I had some of the lining of my coat which was falling apart redone. The dry cleaning was good. It would be nice if there were some other way that stapling tags onto the pieces though as all dry cleaners tend to do. read more

I brought two winter coats here. One, which was a lighter color, had a small mark on the arm. Both coats were done within a week and the spot was removed without an issue! The staff were friendly and the turnaround was so quick, I literally have no complaints. A little pricey, it was upwards of $40 to clean two coats, but that's standard for the neighborhood I guess. read more

Back in December 2009, when a friend of mine was throwing a Madmen themed New Years party, I eyed a cute little vintage dress that looked amazing on me, but there was just one little problem, it needed to be taken out a little. Thinking this couldn't have been that big of a problem, I bought it anyway, figuring a taylor could let it out a little with ease, however this was not the case since there wasn't enough excess fabric on the dress to make it work. Many other dry cleaners in the area turned me away, one lady even laughed at me!! Green cleaners saw my desire to make this dress work for the party, and made it fit me like a glove! I would not normally be taking time to review dry cleaner, but no joke, this place is one of the top reasons that I miss living in Greenpoint. I moved to Manhattan in spring 2010 after 5 years in Greenpoint and I am seriously tempted to bring clothes here just because the prices are so reasonable and the people are so nice. First, I love that it's a family business. Everyone who works there is so nice and they remember their customers. I had them clean some rugs for me and I forgot to pick them up before I moved-- months later I came back to get them finally, and the guy working that day remembered me, remembered the rugs, and told me that he missed having me as a customer! So sweet. Second, the prices are really really good. Yes everything's more expensive in Manhattan, but my current dry cleaner is literally twice the price of this place. Clean Green will also help with mending clothes, usually at no extra charge. When I had a moth problem once I brought in a few sweaters and they fixed them right up-- they looked perfect. And-- bonus-- they gave me a great tip on how to get rid of moths for good: wipe down your closet shelves with diluted bleach. It worked! Third, they are green cleaners! And I love green. read more

Great find! I needed two coats dry cleaned and fixed - the zipper on one was broken, and a button on the other had fallen off. They quoted me a price for the zipper that was way cheaper than another cleaners on Manhattan Ave, and threw in the button-fixing for free. Just got my coats back and they look great. Not only that, they totally went the extra mile with my button-up coat. They not only re-attached the missing button, they tightened up all of the other loose buttons as well (5 in total!) Totally for free, without even having to ask. Great service and reasonable prices! read more

I haven't had anything dry cleaned here, so I'm just posting praise for the tailoring services. Are you a person who has body shape other than a barrel? Cool. Do you have a viciously unflattering bridesmaid dress in the shape of a deflated barrel sack? Yeah, gross, me too. Mine was teal. Enter the tailor at Clean Green, who was recommended to me by several fashionable and wise friends, who all have suspiciously well-fitting clothes. He couldn't do anything about the jewel-toned nature of this dress, but it went from "I look like a beached whale who loves Zooey Deschanel and gospel music" to an impeccably fitted, lean and flattering dress that I felt great in. Professional, thorough (I came in for two fittings before the final product), surprisingly fast, and surprisingly cheap. And it smells lovely inside (yes, I'm looking at you, that tailor next to Schillers that smells like rancid fish tank). Highly recommend. read more

If you have a nice article of clothing that need alteration, DO NOT bring it here. I brought in a newly bought trench coat that needed the sleeves shortened. When they handed it back, there were holes in the sleeves, the stitching was extremely crooked, the loops(like belt loops) on the sleeves were reattached at an angle, areas of the fabric were worn down, and there were multiple stitching marks around the sleeve where they had ripped out the thread(see photos posted). I could not believe they handed it back to me in his condition. When I returned to clean green cleaners they told me that details on the sleeve are difficult to alter because they are factory created. That is Not an excuse for creating holes in clothing and extremely sloppy stitching. If that is the case why on earth would they take the job. I took it to a profession tailor and they could not believe the damage clean green cleaners had done. Apparently if there are details on the sleeve, like buttons, a split seam, etc, the sleeve must be shortened FROM THE SHOULDER so the details remain untouched. After several weeks at the new tailor and $155 spent they were able to fix the stitching and hide some of the holes, they did what they could and did a lovely job. However, the damage is still very apparent on the sleeve. There are multiple stitching tracks around the circumference of the sleeve where the thread was ripped out, it's obvious it has been altered several times. I've been told that nothing can be done about it. On the upside, the owner of clean green cleaners was nice about the situation and did try to fix the horrible job they did, but it seemed to only get worse. Great dry cleaning experience. They did a great job with some very delicate items and I appreciate that the clothes didn't have a strong chemical smell common from other dry cleaners. I also had some items tailored. This was not the first time I've items tailored here, but I think it will be the last time. Not bad but not good either. Stitching a bit sloppy but not enough to make an issue to them about. There are just other choices for tailoring. read more

I feel confident bringing in my Virgin Wool Suits to dry clean and tailor. In fact I have brought in all my vintage 70's Barneys and Hickey Freeman suits, scottish wool blazers, wool overcoat, and even italian silk ties to press. I have full confidence that they will always give me personal attention to tailor to my body proportions and clean my delicate items, carefully, properly. Ok, so I fully realize these are "first world problems," being unhappy with delivery laundry service. I mean, it really is great to not do my own laundry, especially the big stuff, sheets and towels... And listen, they do an ok job. I don't send them my special things but the rest comes back clean and folded and all that. Here's my small gripes that have accumulated over about 8 months of using them: - laundry often does not come back in 24 hours. I've had a 3 day wait before. That's not ok when I'm out of underwear, or worse, leaving on a trip and need my clothes back. The place I used to go to in Manhattan had a same day turn-around AM to PM. I'm not asking for that. Just a reliable 24hrs. - they've lost several of my socks. - they somehow manage to send me other people's undergarments, on occasion. - I wish they would press shirts automatically. I have to put a hand written note in the bag every time I send it out, to specify. I know I know, "first world probs," but maybe they can just put a note on my account that says I always want pressing. Er something? Because if I'm sending my laundry out for someone else to do, it's safe to say I also don't want to do ironing myself. I'm more than happy to pay for it. The owner is very nice on the phone but I just wish they were doing a little bit better job. I'd like to stay a loyal customer, as the other places reviewed on Yelp look bleak. read more

The guy working behind the counter for some reason wouldn't give me a quote on the price (not even a ballpark figure) and there was no one else around. I had already shlepped 6 heavy items of clothing so I decided to just go for it. When I came to pick my stuff up, I was disappointed. The bill was higher than I was expecting. The stitching on the clothing I got tailored was loose and not as professional as I was expecting. Terrible experience. Just moved to the neighborhood and the first time I came here 4 of 10 dress shirts came back with a huge tear in the same place on the left arm. New shirts, no wear, and saw the holes in the arms through the plastic before taking the shirts off of the hanger After taking them back, rather than offering to pay for new ones, it was suggested that I created the holes through standard wear. While I was trying to explain to the owner that I have never had a hole in any shirt (let alone four in the same place), one of the women working at the store was screaming at me that I was trying to cheat them out of money and that she would not repair the shirts. After this, the owner agreed to fix the shirts, still insinuating that they did not damage them. I picked them up a week later and the minute I put my arm into the first shirt, it tore in the same place where the cleaner damaged them. In summary, out four shirts and was screamed at in the process. Miserable experience. read more

This place was recommended to me. Unfortunately I will have to go elsewhere. The owners are nice however nice can go so far. I pay for a service and expect things to be clean & to smell fresh. Instead my clothes come back smelling like a dank basement & stains that should've come out are still visible to the eye. Now I will have rewash everything. My first experience with them I was pleased partly because of the convenience factor ( delivery pick up & drop off) and didn't notice my clothes had any issues. It wasn't until I used them the 2nd time around to wash my linens, towels & blankets. That is when I noticed something wasn't quite right. Everything looked liked it was shoved in the dryer to make it look like it was washed (1 blanket still had upchuck stains from my child) I learned a valuable lesson long time ago w/ laundry service & started to separate my clothes into color coordinated bags. I do this partly to make it easier for the person & I feel bad for being lazy for not wanting to spend hours doing my family laundry. When I noticed the stain was still on the blanket, I called and spoke w/ the sister. She said that it was probably because they use environmental safe laundry soap. I said can use more soap the next time??!! Ok call me old fashioned give me that bleach for my whites, Tide & Snuggle & call it a day. Back to the granny cart to haul my laundry I sure will miss the pick up & drop off service this place provided. Hand laundry for my shirts has been solid without a button broken or a shirt shrunk yet. For the past two washes, I have clothes come back that ARENT mine. This is concerning and raises a red flag on if they throw everyone's clothes in together in the washer. I am now paranoid that some of my clothes are missing. I expected better service especially since I pay almost $20 for laundry with expensive clothes that could be missing. I had been using Green Apple Cleaners before moving to Greenpoint. I knew I wanted to go with a dry cleaner using a nontoxic process for cleaning, since I had a baby on the way. I was so happy to find this place, which is so much more affordable than Green Apple and also green! And the service is one of those quintessential New York experiences, where the city feels small as the shop owners know you. I don't think I've ever needed to find my ticket as they just know who I am when I walk in the door. The service is fantastic and they're just genuinely nice, awesome people. This place is one of the reasons Greenpoint quickly felt like home. Our clothes have always come back in great shape, and we drop a lot of dry cleaning off for my husband. After having serial bad experiences with several of the other wash-and-fold and dry cleaners in the neighborhood, I really couldn't be happier than I am with Green Cleaners. Clothes come back promptly, smelling fresh and not destroyed by over-drying, and their prices are very good. What more could you ask for? I'll tell you... when a set of my sheets were accidentally picked up by another patron who never returned them, the people at Green Cleaners resolve the issue to my satisfaction with no complaints, foot dragging or hard feelings.
