My sister and I stayed here a couple of nights while on a Brendan tour of Ireland. The building is very unique, pretty old which we were told was once an orphanage. The lobby, restaurant and bar area were all very nice and looked very new. Our room was more dated, not terribly so, but it was okay for a 2 night stay. Only complaint, as others have mentioned, there is no air conditioning so the first night we were so hot, even with the open window. Our room faced what I would call an alley, and 1 morning around 5:00 am someone was out there banging stuff around and making a huge racket, that was annoying. We did request a fan for our room and they did bring one to our room which helped somewhat, we appreciated that. Another downside, The Ballsbridge area is not very close to the City Centre or Temple Bar area, but getting a taxi or a bus is easy. Overall a nice stay.

This was the last hotel I stayed at in Ireland, Great location on the outskirts of Dublin. Bus stop right in front of the hotel, for a quick 10 min drive into Dublin or if the weather is nice just walk.. I made it in about 20/30 minutes. The hotel was under construction while I was there. Lot's of cranes and scaffolding outside but you never really heard anything. The lobby area is smaller then most hotels but it's cozy. A few couches and chairs, beautiful flowers were out everyday as well as two different types of newspapers. My room was very nice, comfortable king sized be, large desk... still getting used to all hairdryers are stored outside the bathroom. You just have to hunt to find it. Bathroom was normal size, great shower pressure. My window had a view of another building.. but I wasn't planning on hanging out here to much! The heater was amazing in the room, within minutes the room was nice an warm. The restaurant is located on the bottom floor, take the staircase down from the lobby. I had dinner here one night .. the beef in Guinness gravy with vegetables...very good! I had the Guinness hop house 13.. perfect pairing for my food. I also had breakfast here each morning, went with the buffet. Lot's of different options here, I usually went with eggs, toast and yogurt. Coffee was especially good here. Their is a small bar outside the restaurant. Only a few bar seats available but there are couches and chairs scatted throughout. I would hangout here after dinner with some people in my group watching whatever sports game was on... rugby, soccer or football and having a few pints! I was very impressed with the staff here, from helping with directions to bringing extra coffee to my room. They just seemed to go above and beyond.

Had a hotel reservation set up for months, confirmed that check in time was 2pm. The day finally arrives and after 20 hours of traveling they tell us our hotel won't be ready until 4pm (it was 11am when they told us that). They told us they'd hold our luggage for us during the wait, and it was piled into the lobby with other guests' luggage out in the open. Once 4pm rolled around, they gave us our rooms. We had two booked rooms together, however they told us one room is on the top floor and one is on the second floor. This isn't what you want to deal with when you just travelled all day long. We get to one of the rooms that we requested two separate beds in, and they only gave us one bed. After they finally fixed everything, we got our rooms. Now I will say, the views were very nice and it was very close to a lot of nice restaurants and bars. Wish our room had more than one outlet to charge phones or even a mini fridge. Bath Tub was hard for an elderly person to get into as it was very deep and the sides were tall. As I said some pros were the views, the location of the hotel and the staff was nice most of the things wrong weren't their fault but I wish most of it went better.

5* for customer service. Excellent staff tonne fair. After reading previous comments was concerned. However the staff couldn't do enough for you. They were so helpful and polite in the front desk, let us check in early, all very straight forward and no faff whatsoever. The bar staff were spot on. A chap there called James A was an utter legend and a funny guy whose service was outstanding. The rest was just average. Nothing bad at all, but nothing wow at all either. The hotel room didn't have a minibar innit, which isn't a problem, just noted that at 3in the morning when gasping for something to drink fizzy pop or water, so on. They did have a bottle of fizzy and a bottle of still complimentary water in the room though. Room service comes with a standard €7 added on to it no matter what you order. But, the food itself is a decent quality and arrives really quickly. The room was clean and tidy and had decent dressing gowns, those freebie slippers, a good iron and board, and lovely pillows! The breakfast wasn't anything to write home about. For €15 (13 if you use the discount card the receptionist gives you), the sausages were not great at all, bread was standard medium sliced white supermarket bread, all other ingredients very standard the orange juice cheap rubbish, and you would think they would have a better quality to offer their guests, this is the sort of breakfast you'd expect in a travel lodge, not keen at all. All in all a lovely hotel, outstanding staff, with a few minor tweaks it could be a really great hotel. More than happy to go back there again, but won't opt in for the brekky!

Poor breakfast. Dated rooms. Unfriendly staff. I don't think a single Irish person works there. They were ALL Eastern European.

And honestly, we were bummed it was saved for our last night. The hotel is situated alongside the canal, a few blocks from city center Dublin and is well placed for restaurants, pubs and/or exploring. The hotel has "old bones", but a lot of modern features and decor throughout the public space and guest rooms. Some of the spaces are still a bit dated, but they are well kept and clean. We were also impressed with the outlets here including the coffee/pastry window and the full service restaurant, which is gorgeous! We enjoyed the restaurant enough to enjoy two meals here in our short time on-site. The rooms were small, but well equipped, updated and laid out well. There was seating beyond the bed, which is always great. bed was comfortable and oddly enough, water pressure for the shower was best we had during our time in Ireland. Its the small things! On-site parking is available via a small parking garage. It is tough to maneuver, especially when multiple cars are moving around, so just be mindful. Service was stellar at the front desk upon arrival, during our stay and then at check out. Overall, Grand Canal may not be the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at, but it was the highlight of our Ireland trip from a hotel perspective, and we would 100% stay again when back in Dublin!

If you come prepared, they have a concierge and a genealogist on site to help you find your ancestors from Ireland. Many famous people and politicians have stayed in these walls as well. That said, this was a truly special time of year when they're getting ready for Christmas! They took such care and were meticulous with their decorations. It was delightful to come home to each evening. Experience: 1. They will tidy your room everyday 2. Turn down service begins around 6 pm (they will get your slipper, robe, bed, water and chocolate ready for nighttime) 3. Their small guest room includes a king size bed that is superbly fluffy. 4. The deluxe guest room has a deep tub for soaking Staff: The entire front desk staff is very helpful, welcoming and efficient. Marta was especially helpful and kind throughout my stay! As for the porters were just right with their assistance. I did always feel bad that I had not gotten any Euro on my trip, but I will mention Karl was fantastic! Always helpful and nice to talk with. Michele in the health center was informative and helped me find all of the rooms for their current gym as it's under renovation. Facilities: They have a 5 star spa on site that includes one of the best relaxation rooms I have experienced in the world. It's the view and seating that make it amazing. They give you a blanket, fruit, spa water -- all while looking over st. Stephen's park... bliss! (I went on a rainy day which added to the ambiance) The facial with Elemis product was my favorite. PRO TIP! if you're from the states and liked Elemis, there is now an Elemis outlet store at Kildare Village, which is a short train ride away. I made it there in 35 minutes. DINING: Again, 5 star experience and the restaurant is always packed. Chef makes superb food and I thoroughly enjoyed the room service of fish and chips. TONS of fish, perfectly battered and fried. If I could give the shelbourne a 10 out of 5 I would.

We arrived from an overnight flight at roughly 9:30 a.m. and they were still prepping rooms but they stored our luggage and recommended a location to grab something to eat which was very good. Upon returning about 45 minutes later our room was ready and we found the room to be meticulous with a very comfy king bed, mini fridge, tv, and ample size bathroom. I saw a few other reviews that stated the bathroom doors would not stay open but I learned that is by design and we just asked for an extra towel that we used to prop the door open when needed. It serves to point out that the entire hotel is under a complete remodel so many of the rooms and features of the hotel are shinny new. They do offer breakfast in the morning and for the evening they do have a restaurant and bar. Just walk out the front door if you want a livelier crowd and more restaurant options The location of the hotel is prime as it offers proximity the River Liffey, plenty of shops, pubs, and attractions. We walked to the Jameson (25 min walk) and Guinness (30 min walk) factories as it also gave us the ability to take in things along the walk. You are close to Trinity College and both St Patrick's and Christ Church Cathedrals. lastly, I cannot say enough about the staff, Anne at the front desk was a warm and inviting pleasure and very professional, Marvin the concierge and bellman was super helpful and pleasantly informative, the house staff was attentive and always looking to make sure we were comfortable. The Brooks comes with my highest recommendation.

Every other property I visited was warm, welcoming, and accommodating. The Gibson was the exact opposite. From the moment I arrived, the staff were cold, unhelpful, and unwelcoming. At check-in, I was handed a key with barely a word and simply pointed toward the lift. No offer to assist with luggage, no information about the hotel, no sense of hospitality whatsoever. Throughout my stay, whenever I passed through the lobby, staff either ignored me entirely or deliberately looked busy to avoid interacting. I even sat in the lobby for a while just observing, and it wasn't just me - the staff treated all guests this way. Aloof, uninterested, and uncaring. Hospitality is supposed to be about warmth and service, but here it felt like guests were an inconvenience. This hotel was the least accommodating, least hospitable, and least welcoming of my entire trip, and it wasn't even close. Ireland is known for its friendliness and warmth - but you will not find it here. Do yourself a favor and stay literally anywhere else. I strongly do not recommend the Gibson Hotel.
