Wow, never would I have expected to find such a hidden gem in the coram home Depot shopping center. I was having a hard time deciding what to do for dinner and honestly just wanted some comfort food when I heard about clay oven and the home cooked recipes they serve. After checking their facebook I found that they do a dinner buffet on Thursdays and figured it'd be the best way to try out multiple dishes. From the moment I walked in I was met with the kindest smiles and felt like I was being treated like family. Sometimes in a small setting, I can get a little uncomfortable but here I could feel so much love and warmth that it felt like I was sitting at a big family dinner. And what a dinner it was, not only was it the comforting meal I was looking for but every dish I tried was better then the next. There were plenty of options from multiple Curry's to tandoori chicken, samosas and other apps available. Both meat eaters and vegetarians would walk away with a full heart and belly. In my opinion this is probably the best Indian food ever! The owners are very hands-on with their restaurant and cooking. The food just melts in your mouth. They have very attentive service & staff is very friendly. Interior design & ambiance is classic Indian style with the tile murals, it's very beautiful. The food is delicious. Clay Oven oh how I love you. I've only done delivery, but everything has been GREAT and everything is packed very nicely. Chicken Tikka Masala (I order the mild) -- obviously a must have. 10/10. The white rice it comes with is just as great and flavorful as the flavored rice Lentil soup -- soooo good and warming. Maybe even better than my lentil soup?! ;) 10/10 Chicken over rice -- super and not too heavily sauced. And the rice ::heart eyes:: 10/10 Now I can't wait to go dine-in after reading other reviews. This place is an unsuspecting little nook seated in a typically desolate shopping center in Coram. Walking inside it had my heart; could this be the local Indian joint FOR ME??! Yes, as fate determined. To begin I got classic naan - must've been fresh out the oven, cause it hit the spot - and then the Chana Masala for dips, and it was just lovely. Everything I needed it to be. Next up the main course was Curry Leaf Pepper Chicken and Tandoori Lamb Chops. Both were served alongside a bed of rice, and were exceedingly delicious. Bon G and I have been hankering for the delish taste and aroma of Indian fare. We had scoped out Clay Oven on Yelp awhile ago and decided to give them a whirl last Tuesday. Its located in a large shopping center in Coram right off Middle Country Road. Upon entering we were greeted by the owner and host Lubna.. Such a nice lady, who engaged us in conversation. We expressed our desire to try homey Desi Indian food. She explained various dishes and gave us a appy of Chaat which was incredibly delsh! For mains we got the Restaurant Hunters Goat and an off the menu Lamb dish which was also tasty and wonderful. Lubna can sub any protein with any dish to your likeing as well as the level of burn. I am a big fan of chef Lubna and her restaurants. I have been going to them since she ran a food truck on the side of the road in Port Jefferson Station. People in central and eastern Suffolk are fortunate now that you have a great Indian restaurant nearby! I went opening day and it was good as always. I had my favorite chicken kofta soup, and a lamb dish. They set this restaurant up so nicely too, it is really pretty inside with chandeliers and paintings. I am really hoping people east of exit 64 appreciate this cuisine and support this restaurant. There are not many places that I put on my list of ones that I will always eat at, but Clay Oven with her there I will go out of my way for. And I can stop by Aqua Hut too! If you haven't had Indian food, you do not know what you are missing either. It is one of my favorite cuisines. I believe she is going to run a buffet too, so if you haven't had this type of food, that is an excellent time to try. read more

This place is a diamond in the rough, not a lot of Indian cuisine around but I'm glad they're close. We had the samosas which were great, food was well prepared and ambiance was laid back. My date got the korma it had good sweet flavor compared to other places I've had. They have a good level of spice with the vindaloo. Decent prices, it came out to about $20 per person. The rough part is the neighborhood, clientele didn't seem to understand it was an Indian restaurant however they did have some "safe" items for them. I definitely recommend giving them a try. Did they change owners? Where is Lubna? They refused to accept a gift card that was purchased by my mother for me, before she died. THIS IS STEALING. We used to eat here together often and it was her last gift to me. One of my close friends and I would also eat here on a regular basis and she spent about $200 a month getting take out for her office. I drove all the way here earlier in the week and was told to come back on Saturday because she would " have to talk to her boss." I drove back again on Saturday as I was told, only for her to tell me they will not take the gift card. I told her that was not acceptable. She eventually told me I could go to Hauppauge and use the gift card. That is an hour round-trip for me. Not happening. They just lost my business and I will be sure to tell everyone else I know who comes here that these are NOT people to be trusted and don't deserve our money. Hopefully, their business is suffering because Stop & Shop closed down. This is a trashy Coram shopping center anyway and they are lucky they're even still there. read more

Not your run of the mill Halal option, this spot really shines for a couple of reasons: Service , environment & decor: - nice accomodating service - decor is unusual and pleasing - restaurant is maintained and clean - restroom is also very clean and maintained including those with desi needs Food: - the naan really freshly baked and its fluffy bite 10/10 elevates the delicious food from the chef -there truly are a variety of delectable natural flavors and fresh ingredients in the large menu , & one thing does not taste like the other which is unusual and fantastic-we have many more menu items to look forward to in future - hats off to chef! -mixed grill had some hits with the family including surprisingly the fish , peri peri chicken, shrimp, chilli paneer etc very alive with different tastes -the goat karahi was unexpectedly good! cant wait to try other karahis another time -be careful eating the small red chillies - theyre the real deal! Buffets no longer a thing, but eating to full and beyond was extremely affordable for our large group of 10+. JazakAllah khair for the great experience to the restaurant owners. This is not a place for people who know Indian food. Paneer tikka masala didn't even taste like it. We ordered dal makhni but it tasted like Chana Dal. Maybe they mixed it up. Veggie Manchurian was too sweet and Samosa chaat had too many "snacks" which you normally don't expect. My advice would be if you are used to Indian food, don't go here. I too am a big fan of chef and owner Lubna and had frequently visited her last Clay Oven establishment at Selden. So it was such a joy to hear from the owner via Yelp that she has now opened a new location in Coram. While the drive is a bit farther for me, certainly I wouldn't miss this opportunity to taste her delicious food once again. We were there for their soft opening mid August. Walking in, you can tell the size of the restaurant is a tad larger and parking lot is ample. I ordered shrimp peri peri stew in which the shrimp was fresh and prepared in this peri peri chutney sauce. My wife got the baingan bhurta which was eggplant cooked with onion in tomato gravy. Both portions are satisfying and came with a large plate of rice. My son got the paneer makhani and the owner knew and remembered that my son loved the large size cheese cubes. We also got 1 nann. The price is certainly reasonable. All in all, fantastic food and amazing wait service. Can't wait to go back and really hoping they have buffet selection soon. read more

The atmosphere is so cozy and inviting, and the service is great. The woman who helped us (Lubna?) was so warm. And with the prices on point, I'm definitely going to be back a lot. I'm hitting this place up for takeout, too. I tired the Gulab jamun dessert for the first time, and was really happy with it. They're described as "fried cheese balls," so I was expecting something crispy or crunchy, but that's not the case. They're fried so delicately that the crust is extremely thin and soft. I never write reviews, but I've also never been served food that is so inedible. I paid extra for the white meat chicken tikka masala, and the meat was so tough I could not bite or cut through it. My wife and I recently took out from the Clay Oven in their new location in Coram. The food was amazing. Not salty, very flavorful with loads of different Indian spices. They prepare the food to your spice level. Mild is just that, very mild. Very reasonably priced as well. We spent $47 and had enough food for 2 nights. We will be back soon and highly recommend this restaurant to all our Bretton Woods neighbors. The Clay Oven is a great addition to our neighborhood. read more
