The food flavor has definitely changed for the worse and I can only assume that the main chef they use has changed in the last year for the worse The paneer tikka I had last night was hard and inedible - it was either very overcooked or going off and I think a combination of both The lamb and chicken dishes had way too much salt and cardamom.. had to sift through where I could clearly see the cardomom to throw it out, same with the rice as it detracts from the flavor.. or should I say disguises issues. Ingredients didn't seem as fresh as they used to be Wait times another issue sometimes it's within the time you are given.. others it can take 20-30 minutes more which isn't a big deal when the food is great Sadly we'll need to reconsider coming here.. even the kids say the food is hit and miss (for the same meal) and that is really telling. The parking outside could be tricky but lucky it's quiet and empty parking lot after 7pm weekdays. The worst case you can park at HomeGoods and walk over. Dhabewala is very small with only about 10 tables or so, but the food for pickup is excellent. It is now my go to local Indian.

The food is a 'hit or miss' sometimes the food is good most times it's too spicy to eat. Service is horrible: I usually order online and most time it's not ready for pickup on time. In the last few times they didn't even got my prepaid order and I had to wait there for another 30 minutes until they sort it out Last time I asked for refund after they lost my order again and 20 minutes after pickup time, they still couldn't figure it out. Wow this place was fantastic! It is small inside but nicely decorated with great lighting and super attentive service. They seem to do a large takeout business as well. I went with some family friends so we were able to share multiple dishes-all that were very delicious. I think they may have had the best Chicken Tikka Masala I have ever tried. It was so tasty and fresh. They also have some unique appetizers an dishes you don't see at other Indian restaurants. We really enjoyed a cold appetizer that was made with yogurt and other yummy spices. They have so many amazing vegetarian options as well which is always a huge plus. Their Naan bread was to die for and their Aloo Gobi was so tasty I could have had that for my entire meal. Garlic naan, excellent' the tiki masala "oh man". Way way way way too much salt. Tasted like I had put a salt rock into my mouth. Was inedible and unfortunately the only dish I threw out. The food here is excellent quality. If you have to wait a little while, it is because your food is being freshly cooked & you will fully enjoy your experience. My favorite is the "Rogan Josh" with garlic Nam bread. The rest of my family have different dishes & every time the food is absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant. My husband and I came to visit a friend and she brought us here for lunch. The staff showed excellent customer service to start with. We ordered the paan lassi, Shrimp bhuna mirchwala, Chicken Punjab the murgh curry and lamb biriyani. Loved the paan lassi, so different. The curries were good, and the biriyani was amazing. The lamb was beautifully cooked to perfection. They brought boondi raita with it. We asked for pickle and they let us pick what kind we wanted :) We asked for chai at the end and that wrapped up our amazing lunch today. Thank you Rabbani for making it amazing for us! We were good customers for years. Then one day we ordered on their app. After driving there, I stood in their restaurant for 50 minutes. Other people came & picked up their food & left. This a tiny establishment with a nice menu. The food here was very good and the owner was kind and server was great. We unfortunately had our dinner (and many other table's dinners) ruined by an unusual event. A very loud mouthed, foul mouthed young man who was dining with three other men was making it impossible to enjoy anything. This guy was so loud and so foul it was well within range of insanity. We could not figure out why the people with him didn't say anything to him. Maybe they were only acquaintances for a business dinner and they didn't have the guts? We stopped by this restaurant for lunch on our way back from Rhode Island to New York City. Such a great find! The food was amazing, as we expected from our online search. We smelled the delicious spices the moment we walked in the door. Because it was the President day, the restaurant did not offer lunch menu but regular one which was a bit more pricey. I live in NYC and still find the price here is in the higher range. Additionally, the service could have been more welcoming. We observed that a few guests came in without knowing there was no lunch menu because of the Holidays and were informed in a quite unfriendly way. It would be nicer to offer and/or explain to the customers alternatives instead of being a bit grumpy. Excellent. Ordered via Seamless. 1- Chicken Tikka Masala - So good ! Perfect spice level. BIG portion size - packed to the top of the container. Arrived hot & nicely packaged. CTM = the classic "multicultural & mysterious" dish (please see last paragraph for more info). 2- Plain Nan - Delicious & so fresh. Tasted like it just came out of the oven. 3- Aloo Paneer Paratha - Didn't travel well. Some dishes don't do well with delivery. The homestyle Potato curry was great but the flatbread was soggy. I tried to "revive" it in the microwave & oven but was unsuccessful. It's probably much better served at the restaurant. Excellent Raita. Must have forgotten to include the pickle but that's ok. A brief review of chicken tikka masala. The exact origin of this dish is unclear. Over the years I've heard a variety of versions relating to its invention. One of the more interesting stories claims Chicken Tikka Masala's origin is actually British (not Indian?). The apocryphal tale claims an English customer complained their chicken tikka was too dry; in response the chef created a gravy consisting of a can of Campbell's tomato soup, cream and spices. Dhabewala's chicken tikka masala reminds me of the British version I tried in London years ago. Whether it's of British or Indian origin continues to be a matter of debate. Stamford has quickly become one of the best food cities in the Southern NY/Western Connecticut area, and Dhabewala is just one of Stamford's many excellent restaurants. The service was attentive and polite. They did not make any mistakes, which is always a plus. The decor was...interesting. I'm not sure why the names of Italian cities were all over the walls in an Indian restaurant. The wooden floor was strangely slippery. The food was amazing. We had the potato vindaloo appetizer, which came with potato-stuffed naan, which was excellent. We also had chicken biryani, chicken korma, palak paneer, and plain naan. Everything we had was very good, and we definitely plan to return here at some point. In the meantime, Stamford continues to be a fantastic food destination. read more

I decided to try out this restaurant on my way back to Boston from New York. Good: - Fish Fry Amritsari was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The batter was appropriately spicy. Loved it. - Papdi Chat was just fine, won't order it again. - Butter Chicken was decent, not great. I had great expectations after reading the reviews, but disappointed. Could be better: - Parking: The parking space is not quite big. If you are lucky, you will find a spot in front of the restaurant. Else, you might need to walk. - Unavailability: I really wanted to try Dahi Puri but it was not available. He suggested me to try Papdi Chat instead. But, it's not the same. Bad: - Attitude: The staff spoke about how the restaurant business is not profitable and how customers don't buy food because it's expensive. He was speaking with other people and I heard it and felt bad that the restaurant is blaming the customers. I have seen several overpriced restaurants making profit. There are several factors involved including the location of your restaurant, ambience, service, taste etc. It is unfair and irresponsible of the restaurant management/staff to openly blame the customers for their failures. Located in a strip on a busy traffic corner (bulls head), this restaurant is easily missed when driving by. Definitely pull in to try some tasty Indian street food. It's a small operation so you may need some patience when tables are occupied with patrons. However, the food is delicious and a nice change from the other Indian restaurants in town. Recently discovered this place and am officially OBSESSED! It is quick and easy delivery, so fresh, and hot upon delivery. I am very picky with my meat and the meat here is not freaky at all. I ordered the chicken vindaloo and it properly came with potatoes in the recipe. A few weeks later, I ordered the lamb vindaloo. It had absolutely NO potatoes in the dish--just meat! And, the dish wasn't up even (spicy) hot. Indian vindaloo dishes are supposed to be hot. I got the food to go and everything was packed nicely. I got butter chicken, garlic naan, and samosa. The samosa comes with two decently sized ones both are veggie and is so flavorful with the chutney. I really enjoyed the butter chicken! It had a ton of chicken pieces that wasn't dry at all! I've had Indian food in New England, Los Angeles, Seattle, and New York City where I currently live, yet I just haven't had better Indian food in any of those places. While in Stamford, a friend and I felt like having Indian food for lunch and found this gem. The food was spot on and presented nicely. The waiter was very gracious, patient, very pleasant and answered all of our many questions, describing things well. My friend ordered Lamb Kadhai Methiwala (onions, bell peppers and fresh fenugreek.) I ordered Lamb Korma (creamy cashew sauce.) We shared and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The lamb in each was tender. It was nice to share as one was rich and the other less rich with more heat. Both were balanced perfectly with spices. Each lunch plate came out Bento style with a goodie in each section - basmati rice (of course,) Aloo Tikki, a scrumptious vegetable of the day (which was potato with what I believe was tindora a.k.a. Ivy Gourd) and naan. Everything was so delicious that at the time I didn't even think to ask for the various chutneys. My friend and I agreed - we liked this restaurant very much and would definitely come back. Another positive is that it's priced very fairly.
