I was SO SAD the Claws in Garden Grove was burned down! It was my favorite crawfish place to eat at since the wait isn't as horrendous as Boiling Crab. But I guess it's worth the drive to Cerritos! Everything is delicious here. The seasoning was good, corn on the cob and sausages were cooked perfectly and the crawfish was fresh depending if it's in season. Claws is now my favorite seafood spot to go to. They have peeled shrimp, yes they peel it for you, for an extra $.50! I would pay way more than that for someone to peel my pound of shrimp. The seasoning is flavorful and not salty, like some other places. The clams are very clean and I haven't experience dirt or grit inside of it. They use a lot of garlic, which I love, but if you don't beware or ask them to lighten up on it. Their garlic fries are AMAZING and so are the sweet potato fries. The only downside is that the wait to get in is always so long, but so worth it. I'll wait an hour for Claws because I love it so much. Super good - Still think flavor is better at Boiling Crab, but, this is definitely worth going if you have a craving and don't feel like driving all the way to Boiling Crab and dealing with the wait. Small place with BIG appeal. We went about 3PM on a hot Saturday and were seated immediately. Wasn't extremely crowded and I realized why when there was no AC. Ordered gumbo and garlic fries for starters - hot and fresh and a nice enough portion to feed two hungry people. I had 1 lb King crab with Cajun seasoning and it was GREAT! Lots of good meat, flavoring was perfect and it was satisfying enough to not need sides. Staff is friendly and keep a watchful eye on your table to have your refills at the ready. Never coming back! I ordered food to go and got my order wrong so I came back. One bag was correct & one was wrong. So he goes ahead and question me what happened, which I explained. He comes back to me after asking the woman that took my order, that they most definitely misunderstood my order so I'm like okay cool I still want BOTH bags replaced because the other one was cold. This was my first experience having a crab boil although I ordered the peeled shrimp with potato, corn and sausage and cannonball sauce. It was so good! You need some fresh baguette to dip into the sauce or they also have garlic bread, but the baguette is way cheaper and the sauce has enough garlic already. It was an addicting flavor that I was craving for the next few days. The hubs had a catfish po-boy sandwich it's huge by the way! It's like 2 whole sandwiches so you can actually share it or save it for later. We will definitely go back. You should too :) read more

First time here and we weren't disappointed. We ordered the shrimp and crab legs. We all got different sauce and spices and we all were satisfied with the outcome. I have been to claws multiple times prior to last night's visit and have not had a problem in the past. We ordered our usual 3lb meal deal that includes 2 appetizers. It wasn't too busy but it looked like there were multiple big parties so I'm assuming that's why it took a while for our appetizers to come out (longer than what we are used to). When one of the servers brought out our bbq wings, she places it in front of me and my adult daughter and walks away. As soon as she sets it down, both my daughter and I notice a piece of hair on it. My daughter who works in the food industry, automatically tells me not to touch it (which I was not planning on) and flags down our server Brianna. She looks at it and apologizes and takes the wings towards the kitchen area. Since the location of our table, was in view of that area, I see that she is showing it to a gentleman who I find out later is their manager for the evening Aaron. He proceeds to examine it and I see him pull the hair out and then looks over to our table. At this point, I am wondering why but am also feeling uneasy about it. In a few moments, our server returns and asks if we would like that replaced with another appetizer or the same but remade and she apologizes again for the inconvenience. Then the unexpected happens as my daughters and I are eating since we have already gotten the rest of our food! Aaron...THE MANAGER, comes over to us with the original wings that had the hair on it and said something like : excuse me I was looking at this and the hair that was found on this doesn't look like anyone in the kitchen or any of our staff's. Are you kidding me? First off let me tell you that the hair found on the wings was black...I have long black hair and my daughters also have black hair. My adult daughter and I looked at him in disbelief and told him that as soon as the server placed it on the table, we saw the hair and immediately flagged down our server! He looked at us and I don't even know what he said but all I know was that he did not even apologize and just walked away after saying our new appetizer should be coming shortly. Frustrated we continue to eat our food while my daughters and I vent to each other the unprofessionalism we just experienced with this so called manager. Who in their right mind would do that? Especially working in the food industry? He pretty much accused us of placing our own hair in the food. But why? We are starving...what would we get out of doing that? Both my daughters work in the food industry...whenever a guest is not pleased with their food, it is remade, or refunded or something is discussed to ensure the guest is satisfied with their visit. Let me clarify one thing, Aaron mentioned that none of his staff had hair to match what was found on the wings but the person who served it did have black hair (although it was also dyed blonde) and I'm not saying that it was hers. Just wanted to point that out. Although that is not the point of it. I don't feel that it was professional for Aaron to approach us the way that he did. I even at one point asked our server Brianna who he was and if there was anyone there above him that I can speak to. She said unfortunately he was the manager on duty. I asked her if she was aware of what he did and she did not know. She apologized for his actions and even mentioned that the hair was wrapped around the wings when he pulled it out. Brianna was very understanding and apologetic. I get it and know these things happen. Our night was going along fine even after finding that hair but got ruined when Aaron approached us the way that he did! read more

I really love the way everything tastes at Claws. I have had the clam chowder and fresh french bread which was excellent. I have also have the shrimp with Cannonball sauce and it is super good. However, unfortunately, I can't go back because I looked at my shrimp closely and noticed that it is not deveined. When I asked them about deveining the shrimp or if they had any deveined shrimp they said no. So that was my last trip to Claws. I wish they would update it so they have some deveined shrimp. I was SO excited to see there was a claws by my house since I used to go to the one in Anaheim. I really wanted some gumbo but didn't feel like driving to sals gumbo shack so I yelped nearest gumbo and they popped up. Now dont get me wrong , I'm no food snob so I was prepared for at LEAST some decent gumbo. This gumbo was GROSS! IT actually shouldn't even be called gumbo being as its just some thick gravy with NO FLAVOR at all and shrimp and other things just THROWN in. I ended up having to doctor it up when I came home with ACTUAL gumbo flavorings to be able to eat it. It also had some strange sweet flavor. I even asked the server if it's really alive before i ordered and he said yes it is. $13 for their so called "live crawfish" might as well order the frozen one for $8. I always get a lb of shrimp, 1/2 lb of sausage & corn in lemon pepper & garlic butter, non spicy. It's no Giovanni's but it beats driving down to the OC to boiling crab. The Parmesan garlic bread & baguette are great for dipping in the sauce. read more

That's right I give this place 1 star but I would give it 0 if I could. Although This place is very good, what I experienced today was not even worth a star it was unacceptable. I've been to this location one time before and nothing seemed wrong. But today I walked in ordering a to go order talking to the hostess named CINDY. She seemed very nice but as her co hostess came back to the register, CINDY stopped me from ordering to harshly critique this trainee, she basically yelled at her in front of me and in front of all the customers. I personally thought it was rude and that the situation could have been handled privately and nicer. After CINDY yelled at this trainee she turned back to me with the worst attitude. Customers beware!!! Found a piece of jagged metal in my bag of shrimp! :o I am a long time customer. This visit was the worst ever. I ordered the 3 lb. Meal Deal of peeled shrimp in separate bags on Thursday. When I was about half way through it, I found a piece of jagged metal (nickel size) in one of my bags of shrimp. When I called the waitress over to tell her I found a piece of grey metal, she tried to say it was a piece of the clam/oyster shell. I told her I was confident it was not a piece of clam/oyster shell because of the color. She immediately took the piece of metal to show her manager who was in the back. Shortly after another waitress came out and apologized. She asked if I wanted another bag of shrimp. Never mentioning they had confirmed it was a piece of metal until I asked her if they had determined what it was. She then went on to say that it was in fact a piece of metal that had broken off of one of the buckets they use. I was outraged! I asked how she could guarantee me that the rest of my food was not contaminated. She said she didn't know but could replace the bag I had. I told her that wasn't enough and only then did she say she would ask the manager to come out. Talk about not owning up to your mistakes. Only then did the manager come out to apologize (and not sincerely)... and told me there was nothing he could do but replace the one bag that contained the piece of metal or refund me for only 1 lb. ($14.50). After complaining some more about the severity of the situation and how this wasn't simply a piece of hair, that it was a piece of metal that could've resulted in a catastrophe had it been accidentally consumed. The manager seemed apathetic and said all he could do was offer me an extra 10% discount. He said anything more than that, all he could do was apologize. I succumbed to his proposal. When he finally brought out the check, he told me that he could not give me the 10% after all because it was too much money, and subtracted the potatoes instead. Unbelievable.... anyway, if you care about having a responsive restaurant that actually cares about its customers, please avoid this place. They do not care about their customers. The managers are pathetic. Will never return. And lastly, please make sure you check your food or you or your kids might find yourself swallowing a piece of metal!! read more
