    The 2013 annual pedicure
    Marcus J.

The pedicure was good. Other than that I wasn't too pleased. As a bit of background, after I returned from my second and final Iraq tour, my wife convinced me to get one pedicure a year. That was 2005. I missed the 2012 pedicure, but I've still been a nail salon customer enough times to know the difference between a good and bad experience. When I first walked in the door, the employees all looked at me with a "what do you want?" expression. I said I'd like a pedicure and the lady told me there was a long wait. Guess it was too close to closing time on a Saturday, never mind the fact Father's Day was the following day, and this pedicure was my gift to myself. When I sat down in the waiting area, the smell of acetone hit me like a freight train. I know nail salons smell of acetone, but this place reeked in a way that made me wonder if the ventilation was adequate (remember this is my 8th pedicure, not to mention the dozens of mani/pedis I've accompanied my wife, mother, and sister to over the years). After sitting for awhile, I look up and see the price list on the wall. The fact a pedicure costs $25 might have been okay if the salon were in a more upscale part of town, or if I had felt like a welcomed customer when I entered. By that time, however, I was suffering from an acetone-induced headache and didn't want to risk trying to get to another salon before it closed, so I bit the bullet. Like I said earlier, the actual pedicure was good. The employee doing my feet even used the razor that looks like a teaspoon, which apparently nail salons in other parts of the country are forbidden to use due to state health & sanitation laws. I tipped her $5 and paid upfront. On the way to my car I took out my phone to look for a site for next year's pedicure.

    Remnants from the cuticle disaster.

So I read the reviews before I went to Classy Nails. Most were positive, a couple were not. Let's just say, I did not have the best experience there. First of all, the facilities look as though you transported into the 1970's with the tables, decoration, etc.. For the amount that they charge, you would think they would be able to update at some point. Not only did it seem to be very out of date, but the overall cleanliness was not as good as it could be. Kind of felt a little grimy. After the initial impression from the shop itself, I was then greeted by 4 employees, all without a smile or a hello. Instantly, I felt unwanted there. I got asked "what do you want" instead of as the initial greeting. This was definitely off putting. I got a shellac manicure and a normal pedicure. The pedicure was fine. I enjoyed it and the massage was great. However, it wasn't until the manicure, when the lady that did my feet switched me to another employee that things started to really go down hill. First, I was changed over to an employee that clearly did not want to be there. How did I know this? Because he told me. Multiple times. He had a very negative attitude about being there and reminded me how much longer he had to be there. After this, things were okay until he started cutting my cuticle. I have had many manicures and have had many people cut my cuticles. Never have I had someone cut my cuticles to the point that they bled and then, blame me for the fact they were bleeding. After he cut the cuticles on my right hand, he tried to tell me that I have something wrong with my right hand's cuticle and that I should stop touching them (I don't touch my cuticles unless I am getting a manicure). After this fiasco and immense pain, it was time to paint the shellac. However, they only have 2 machines and two people were using them already. This was totally fine with me. I was fine to wait. However, he got up from our table, had my follow him to the machine, and then proceeded to tell the other manicurist to hurry up and finish quick... All whole me and the other customer were looking at each other very confused. To say I felt uncomfortable is an understatement. The rest of the appointment went fine. It was your typical shellac experience. However, overall, especially for the amount that I paid ($70 total), I would have appreciated a different experience. I got my nails done on July 3, it is July 7 and my shellac is already chipping. I got a French tip and the white, which is supposed to be painted opaque, was painted with spots that were still see through. Looks very odd. Overall, not very happy with this experience and I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I came to this nail salon after seeing it on my way to the mall. I have never been so pleased with the service I received. I got a full set mani and a pedi and both were great! I got my mani by Kim and she was so nice and welcoming. She really made sure my nails looked great for graduation. I will definitely be coming here from now on.

They obliged and the service was ok, the staff was kind, but never offered to trim my nails to make them similar lengths just filed/buffed - and it's $25 - which seems excessive considering - but that isn't my biggest issue. This place is filthy. My hands smell of mildew from the hot towels they used. The shelves in the back near the sink are rotting from the water leaking out of the towel warmers. There's lime build up all over the sink and dust everywhere. This place hasn't been thoroughly cleaned in a VERY long time which raises concerns about proper sanitation with their drills, polishes, and anything else that doesn't get wrapped and sanitized under UV light.

They were able to take appointments for quite a way out, as well as booking appointments for soonish; I booked a pedicure with Tim right before my trip abroad, giving myself maximum time to grow out the ingrowns the last place gave me. Big place, with lots of stations and lots of professionals. Clean, light and airy. The massage chair pedicure stations faced a large flatscreen tv showing the Olympic Games. Nice! Tim didn't give me much time to soak, but was very careful not to cut my nails too short, and not to file them too much in the corners. My podiatrist would approve. Didn't take off enough callus on the ends of my pinkie toes, but that's a hard area to reach. Massage of the feet and calves with lotion was relatively brief, but used a nice lotion that didn't reek of artificial scent, like the last place. Did a beautiful job painting my nails. Fast, efficient, professional, and no pain. I was happy. Afterward, relaxed by the good experience, I asked about a manicure, and ended up seeing Tim's colleague Linh, who was awesome. She told me about gel builder, to armor my weak and brittle nails without damaging them, and I signed up. We left my short nails the color the gel builder comes in -- a nice, natural pink. Maybe now I'll actually be able to grow them out past my fingertips, without them snagging and tearing! I love how strong and smooth they are now, which is helpful in making jewelry! I booked a follow up for a month from now. I look forward to trying out more of their services!

It took close to an hour and 45mins for a service that usually takes 45-50mins max. The person servicing my mom was extremely slow to do her nails because she didn't know what she was doing and this was even confirmed by the owner. Because it took so long, no massage or lotion was included like other customers. The owner and another staff member coming to work in pajamas with extra long acrylic eagle talons for nails was definitely a red flag & I should of seen this coming. The owner was forcing my mom to basically pay $100 for a very sloppy, lumpy & time-consuming manicure. After some time of arguing, she decided to lower it to $75 (still an overcharge) because of miscommunication, and didn't even apologize. The owner was extremely reluctant to see the problem from another person's point of view & stood firm on her pricing with a sense of entitlement. Apparently, she's very proud of the mediocre work that comes out of her shop & demands full payment, even if that means ripping off customers. And never once were we expecting a free or discounted service. We just wanted to pay what was fair for the low-quality that was given. I found them to be very unprofessional, unreasonable, hostile and overall a huge lack of customer service skills. Continuously talking over people in a louder voice doesn't make your claim any stronger or correct. Instead of turning a negative to positive experience to create a repeat customer, the owner opted to give major attitude to a senior customer with broken English, knowing there was a lack of communication on your businesses behalf and that was disappointing. Very ghetto, to say the least. If you're going to charge premium pricing, a premium service needs to follow. No one in their right mind can look at these sad nails & genuinely feel they got their money's worth.
