The indoor space is pretty wide open and would make a good study spot. They also have a few tables outside but is fairly loud because the shop is located at the corner of busy streets. In regard to the vanilla bean coffee, it was okay; not the greatest or worst I've had. Overall, the space and vibe i get is an upgraded Starbucks feel. Good customer service and mediocre coffee.

When I made the reservation, I clearly stated that it was for a birthday lunch and that we would be bringing a small 5-inch round birthday cake. At no point during the reservation process was I informed of any cake-cutting fee, nor was it disclosed anywhere that I saw when booking. After being seated and reviewing the menu, our waitress approached the table and said, "Just so you know, we charge a $30 cake-cutting fee." I politely explained that we would not need anyone to cut or serve the cake, so the fee would not be necessary. She then informed me that it was restaurant policy and said she would have the manager explain it. The manager came to the table and doubled down on the charge. He explained that they used to charge per slice but that "it started getting a little crazy," so they now charge a flat $30 fee. He even tried to justify it by saying it was a better deal because their desserts cost around $50 each. I explained that this was not a deal at all and that I had never heard of such a fee being imposed simply for bringing a small birthday cake. More importantly, I told him I was completely unaware of it because it had never been disclosed during the reservation process. I made it clear that had I known about this additional charge beforehand, I would not have chosen to book this restaurant. The manager compared it to a corkage fee. I responded that corkage fees are a widely known and standard practice, whereas charging $30 for a small birthday cake is not something most customers would reasonably expect, especially when it is not communicated in advance. As a result, we chose to leave rather than begin a birthday celebration feeling blindsided by hidden fees. Fortunately, we went to The Cheesecake Factory right up the street, where we received excellent service, enjoyed great food, and were not charged a fee for bringing a birthday cake. I want others to be aware of this policy because it was not disclosed upfront and could result in unexpected charges. While they may have every right to have such a policy, customers should be informed before making a reservation, particularly when the restaurant has been told in advance that the occasion is a birthday celebration. Thankfully, they did not ruin her birthday lunch, but they certainly put an unnecessary damper on what should have been a happy and memorable occasion.

Food here is consistently really good BUT need to address portion sizes vs prices. Paid $13 for a carne asada salad that I swear to you was about a few fork fulls. Ordered two and right when I picked up the bag had to do a double take because of how light it was. I understand the cost of things right now but business owner should really reconsider the cost vs product (food ratio) here. Oh, what can I say about Classic Burger that everyone doesn't already know? My favorite off the menu concoction is cheese fries with spicy red peppers (normally on the Smoke Shack burger). Don't forget to check out the locally themed concretes at each location - they're clever and delicious! If you venture outside Redondo Beach to the Hermosa Beach location the lines are not as overwhelming. read more

Their menu has great options overall, and the lunch box is a solid value for the price. The homemade onion rings are especially good. The only issue I consistently have with this location is the fries. I've never received crispy fries here. There is now an option to request "crispy / well-done" fries when ordering online, but it doesn't apply to all menu items, and it still doesn't seem consistent. What I usually receive are soft, oily fries that end up tasting more like steamed potatoes, which I personally can't enjoy. I don't think most people would prefer fries served that way over crispy ones, so I really hope they can improve on this part of the menu.
