Am I allowed to do this? I don't know since I haven't been back since the change in management the summer of 2022, but I feel like I need to say something since my original 5-star review no longer stands. This new review is in no way a reflection on the "modern day cheers" atmosphere that once was the local Vienna Hot Spot run by Chef Jon Krinn, Nick Palermo and Sam Schnoebelen and the entire front and back-of-house staff that made this a place we wanted to go back to time and time again (which we did, like once a month). There is a reason there were several months where this place closed and re-opened, closed and re-opened. Without going into the details, there has been a complete overhaul with most of the people, including managers and chefs, responsible for making Clarity the "IT" place in Vienna no longer working there. Rave reviews from the past 6-years are a reflection of the space they had created prior to the change in management and the closures of late 2022. This new Clarity, well... I can't speak to it because we don't support what we feel have been horrible decisions by new Management... but it seems others can... On a side note, I am not sure if Viktor is still there as bartender, but he makes some truly amazing cocktails, one of the best French Blondes I have ordered, and we constantly debate going for just a quick drink at the bar to say hi and support him, who was always amazing!! read more

We dined here for the first time on Valentine's Day! Good thing we had a reservation because it was packed. We enjoyed some amazing wine with our dinner. I got the beef cheek and he got this fish special. I like that they are constantly changing the menu and coming up with new creative offerings. The German chocolate cake was outstanding. I would definitely come here again to try more dishes. The ambiance is nice but it's a little tricky to get to as it's in the back of an old building that you wouldn't expect the restaurant to be inside of. Had an ok dinner tonight. Opted to dine ala carte instead of the tasting menu. Our server, Josephine, was pleasant and attentive but clearly working at the mercy of the kitchen and bar staff. My thoughts on food, restaurant organization and ambiance: The food was delicious. We both had the chestnut soup. It was delicious but served in way too large of a bowl given the richness. We both stopped 2/3 of the way through. I had the lamb shank. It was the most tender lamb I've ever had. The portion size was ridiculously too big. It could have served 2-3 people. The vegetables served with it were nicely roasted and flavorful. My husband had the schnitzel. It was also too large of a portion of meat and completely missing the spatzel which was a disappointment. We watched with mild humor...and ultimately frustration..at the lack of general organization and process in the restaurant management. The many staff seemed to be tripping over each other...either unclear of their roles or poorly trained. And of course when there is no process. You get experiences like we had where our pre-dinner cocktails arrived as we were about halfway through our soup course. And that was 30 minutes after we ordered the drinks and 20 minutes after we placed our dinner order. Clearly, no one is orchestrating the order food and drinks are served. The ambiance of the restaurant is in desperate need of some textiles or sound deadening tiles. No table linens, carpets or drapes to deaden sound. We were seated in a small dining room that had 8-10 tables. A large big screen TV on the wall playing holiday music was surely intended to be a festive touch. Unfortunately the volume was such that tables were all trying to speak over the music--and ultimately each other--which added to the chaos of the experience. In short, there is no doubt Chef Tracy can cook. But to make this reboot work, she's going to need a partner who can manage and train the staff, put some clear processes in place that reduce the chaotic service and find ways to reduce the overall noise level to make the dining experience as enjoyable as the food. read more

Recently, I had occasion to visit Clarity. It was my first time and I had heard good things about the service and food. To sum up my visit in one word - disappointing. The restaurant prides itself on its creativity but it was anything but. Let me start at the beginning. My party of 3 had 7:30 PM reservations Christmas Eve. We arrived 8 minutes early and we were seated promptly. From that point the evening went steadily down hill. It took 20 mins for anyone to come to our table and offer us water, another 5 to get a basket of bread. We didn't see our server for another 20 mins. At this point we are inside the restaurant at our table for 45 mins. When our server did FINALLY get to us, there were no apologies, Sorry we are really short staffed tonight etc., just ready to take our drink order. We told him we were ready to order our meals and the order was taken. We waited. And waited. And waited. 1 hour and 20 mins after being seated, 35 mins after ordering short ribs and pasta Bolognese our meals were served. During the time we waited, our server was conspicuously absent from our table. Not wanting to make a scene, I looked for him to signal him over but he always presented himself with his back to us. Once we finally received our food, my Bolognese was anything but....there was no signs of meat, no signs of typical veggies in a bolognese in fact, it appeared that they placed a tablespoon of sauce in with the pasta, mixed it up and serve it. I was expecting a meaty hearty sauce like every other time I have enjoyed Bolognese....but apparently Clarity doesn't serve it that way. The two others in my party ordered the short ribs. While the meat was good, the accompanying mashed potatoes were lukewarm at best, just like my pasta. At no time during our waiting did we see a manager nor had the opportunity to request one. We ate our meals, mainly because we were hungry at this point and paid our check. For what we received, what they charged was outrageous - way over priced! As we left, my son, who works in the food industry asked to speak with the Manager. I just wanted to get out of there so I'm not sure if he did but we were met with one of the owners (Victor) outside the restaurant who apologized for the experience. My son didn't hold back and professionally let Victor know about all the issues we encountered. Victor's only excuse was that his partner went with a short staff even though he knew it would be a heavy dining out evening for customers. Overall, the experience at Clarity was dreadful, the food mediocre at best and the service severely lacking. Even though Victor offered us a free meal on him if we came back, all 3 of made the decision that Clarity would not be a place we would eat at again or recommend to anyone who asked. Sometimes things just fall flat, this place left us with the impression that their execution falls flat a lot. I am a fanatic about Foie Gras and order it at every opportunity. The current preparation and presentation at Clarity may be the best I have ever tasted. The searing added flavor, color, and a slight crispiness to the exterior surrounding a melt in the mouth interior. The red pepper coulis added color to the plate and spicy heat to the palette contrasting nicely with the richness of the meat. The bacon and brioche were perfect accompaniments. The caramelized U-8 Day Boat scallop was gorgeous and seated atop a scrumptious chowder containing a cornucopia of flavors. The halibut was thick, perfectly seared, and surrounded by a medley of umami vegetables. I grew up on a farm with free range chickens. The cast iron seared Amish chicken brought back memories of my youth when chicken was richly flavored. The wilted spinach brought a bright color and bitterness that paired nicely with the other flavors particularly the cauliflower emulsion. Our server, Josephine, was knowledgeable about the wine list and the menu. She was gracious, humorous, attentive, without being intrusive. Gotta say this place is good, but not amazing, and definitely not worth the prices. The wagyu wasn't the highest quality I've had, and it had a gravy all over it that IMO kinda ruined it. If I'm paying for wagyu it's because I want to taste the beef flavor, but I guess they had to hide that as far as wagyu goes it was just OK. Everything else, service included, was good. There was nothing that tasted bad, I just think it was extremely "just OK" and very small portions that don't justify the name and price of this place whatsoever. If you want more authentic fancy French dining, go across the street to the charming Cafe Rennaissance, where the owner will also treat you to a comedy routine. read more

I really enjoyed my first time eating at Clarity. We came for Thanksgiving after our well pump broke and we had no water that day. I was excited about the menu but honestly everything was meh at best. 3 ppl at $450 I expect a lot and I got a budget experience. First the pro's- Victor the bartender is awesome. He's friendly bust best of all knowledgeable. He asked my name and gave me his and that little thing went a long way. The Sous vide steak was also pretty good. Also dessert was really good. Now the cons- 2 of us got the shrimp appetizer and it was overcooked and bland. Plus it was served on okra which I advised I was allergic to and didn't realize until I was halfway in. I got the turkey and it was basic. I took a bite of the dressing and got a nasty taste and it was chicken livers. I know lots of people like this but lots don't and it would've been nice to put that on the menu. Service was friendly but slow and for that much money I would hope for better. I like that the menu rotates, this keeps things fun and fresh. The venue itself is pretty small, but cozy. The restaurant has a high class atmosphere with big plates, small serving sizes, and artful topping displays. The drinks took a while to come out, but the food arrived quickly, especially given the size of our party. I enjoyed the Cosmo and Wanda cocktail. The thyme syrup is a unique addition. My scallops and halibut were both cooked perfectly! They did a better job than many seafood restaurants in this respect. The sunchoke basil puree was delicious on the scallops, they were some of the best that I've ever had. But the fish needed to be seasoned, it was too bland. I saw other reviews mentioning delicious bread. We were not offered any, but this would have helped add to the meal. Bread or more substantial sides (instead of the toppings) are definitely needed, since the portions are on the smaller side. The carrot cake was pretty sweet, but a good way to end the meal. Clarity is where I go when I want a fancy dinner and I don't mind spending a little more money. The menu changes very frequently and always offers something fresh and delicious. The chefs there are masters of their craft, always offering something new and unique. One of my favorite items I've gotten is their scallop appetizer. The actual composition changes each time I go, but the scallops themselves are always cooked wonderfully, with delicious sauce and veggies or broth to accompany the seafood. My other favorite item I've ordered was a duck dish. The duck breast was served with sweet potato wedges (cooked so tender and flavorful), brussel sprouts smothered in some rich sauce, and on the side was a mini duck pot pie. That duck pot pie stole the show. It had a biscuity topping with a rich, deeply flavorful duck base. I wish I could eat that every day. The service has always been nice, but my favorite member of the staff was actually a bartender named Maggie. She kept me and my guest well stocked with hot, house-made bread and made great drinks! Their drink menu is just as unique as their food menu. I usually sit at the bar or their "chef's corner". The chef's corner is like an extension of their bar, but it borders their open kitchen. It's really cool to see how efficient their BOH staff is. Everything is so clean and nice. I recommend Clarity for a date night or a "treat yourself" dinner. The outside pales in comparison to the inside decor for sure; I loved the color scheme and open kitchen. My LO and I decided to try this spot on a weekday (we did not make reservations). (Complimentary) Fresh Baguette (Regular and also Sesame and Sunflower Seeds) - who does Not love fresh, hot bread?? I mean, the regular one was just *muah muah* but the sesame and sunflower seed one was ok. The olive oil they paired was decent; it had a bit of a bitter taste at the end of each "bite" (I'm told that's normal?) Beet Salad - Beet salad was good. The candied sunflowers didn't taste very "candied." I liked that the goat feta wasn't a "kick in the face" kinda vibe. Emilia Romagna Style Gemelli Pasta - the pasta was a bit on the firmer side and less al dente. I was surprised it was a goat bolognese because I didn't taste much gaminess. It was a solid tomato-cheese pasta. Service was good- you can make it as quick or long as you like, but people tend to come here for extended lunches and dinners (Aka business meals or a treat out). Price point was a bit high for a lunch and compared to the quality and portion. When seeing the outside of this place, it seemed a bit uneventful and boring. Walking in was a magical transformation to a cozy, elegant dining experience. I find it so interesting that the menu changes every day and I'm glad they source locally. I ordered the paté and the mussels with green curry as appetizers and the mussels blew me away. The curry was so flavorful and I could eat that with rice any day. The paté was strong and flavorful and I am thankful we had bread to eat it with. I got the duck trio and it was flavorful but a smaller than I expected. It was on slice of duck and the rest were vegetables. The slice of duck was probably no bigger than 2 fingers width which was a bit disappointing. I then got the holiday special of persimmon panna cotta and the texture was a bit off and I did not realize that there was some alcohol in it until tasting it. I LOVE this place and wish I could come again and again. My cousin recommended it as a local in the area and the menu looked great. I popped in for a super quick lunch and sat at the bar. Our waiter was so kind and made great conversation. First off, the bread was some of the best complimentary bread I've ever had. Between the butter/olive oil and the variety of flavors baked into the same overall type of bread, I could literally have that for a meal in itself. The food was so flavorful, perfectly cooked, and well balanced with just the right proportions. It was so good I came back 2 days later for dinner when I was only in town 6 days. There are different vibes between the lunch and dinner crowds- lunch was a bit more elderly and relaxed while dinner was hip and felt more like a great date spot. The service is a bit quicker at night but I would say you definitely should make a reservation for dinner. The highlight asides from the food was the service. We got there 5 minutes before the kitchen was closing and the staff was extremely attentive to ensure we got served. They alerted the kitchen and multiple people checked in while I was waiting at the front for the rest of my party to arrive to ensure I had been helped. I then had the same server as my first visit and I couldn't believe he remembered me! He really made me feel like a special patron. Sadly we weren't impressed with our first visit. We ended up in a back room, which I can only assume is some sort of overflow, but it had horrible lighting and was not nicely decorated like the front of the restaurant. The waiter seemed flustered, or like he wanted to rush us through dinner. He asked to take our food order without getting our drink order and didn't tell us anything about the menu. We ordered a bottle of wine and told him we would order more later. He came back with the wine, which was good, and took our order. We got a shrimp appetizer, soup and entrees. The food was good but the portions were very small. After appetizers and my entree, I was still hungry. We tried to order dessert but they were out of everything except the chocolate cake and ice cream which I didn't want. So we went home and I ate more once I got home. After spending more than $100 per person, I would expect to at least leave with a full belly. read more

It was so soft and flavorful, even without dipping it in the oil provided (which I think was truffle?) Oysters (4/5): The selection of oysters we got were delicious! It comes with cocktail sauce, mignonette (super sour, loved it), and a jalapeno sauce (very spicy so be careful!) Rabbit and Pork Terrine (2/5): served cold and had a very gamy taste. This one is a more objective opinion but realizing I am not a huge fan of cold, gamy, or creamy textured meat. Sea bass (5/5): So delicious! The skin was crispy, the meat was so soft and tender. The corn was charred and sweet. Beans were cooked but still had a bite. And lastly the sauce had a lot of depth! Duck breast (3/5): The duck was cooked nicely (we got medium), and was very tender. The sauce was very acidic, which I think was supposed to pair with the puree, but overall, the dish seemed to lack a little bit of balance. Flourless chocolate cake (4/5): So decadent and the dulce de leche ice cream was a good balance. Overall, had a good experience. At least the interior was subtle and beautiful enough to be lost in as we waited Service: 2/5 Aside from the shocking lack of knowledge surrounding the dishes and ingredients, the failure to tell the pride of the cuisine, and the tortoise pace, it pained me to be able to compare the conversation here to that of a Thursday night post-work cheap chain restaurant, from both server and manager. Their glimmers of care and effort were eclipsed by their lack of love for their craft. Performance: 1/5 Lacked any information about any stage of the tasting menu, or even before ordering. Not everyone posses the charisma to sell, yet the educative care to share the beauty behind the dishes should at least be there. It was not, even when asked. Server had not memorized the ingredients. Not the beautiful show once seen at our last time here. Presentation: 2.5/5 Nothing spectacular, but still pleasant upon first glance, albeit lazy. If this were not a $125 price point for three courses plus dessert, there would be much nicer things to mention. A manager had told me if I wanted to experience the "performance" , to book a seating at the chef's bar next time. Absurd, for I have no to return. Food: 2.5/5 First course was phenomenal, compliments to the saucier. I wish the same could be said of any of the dishes that followed. I must mention that compared to John's leadership, which introduced surprises of dishes between each listed course, totaling 7-9 courses, this menu felt lazy, with large portions without heart in them. We were super excited to try this place out. It was a somewhat of a special occasion and we were a party of five. When we made our reservation we were given the option of dining indoors or outdoors and we choose indoors for our first experience here. We were graciously greeted when we walked in. The dining room has a really nice elegant feel to it yet in a very casual modern way. It was beautiful. There is a 12-seat bar & an 8-seat "Kitchen Counter" where you are right in the middle of Chef Jon Krinn's action but it is a first-come first-served basis only. We were seated immediately at a nice round-top. Our server. Sophie, greeted us immediately and before I go any further, she was the highlight of our evening! What an amazing server & basically a hostess to our evening. She was a true delight; we had the best evening under her care! We started off with some drinks and a few apps. We then moved on to entrees with a nice bottle of wine, and of course we ended with dessert. The lunch & dinner menu change daily & is posted @11:30 am for lunch & 4:30 pm for dinner. I was taken here for a surprise outing on Saturday evening! When walking in, Clarity is vibrant, open and filled with warm energy. We were greeted with warm smiles and escorted to our table promptly. The booths along the perimeter of the Clarity makes it feel as if you are the only people dining. Even the noise within the restaurant wasn't overwhelming even though it was busy. We decided to do the tasting menu with the wine pairing + an order of chicken wings. I was pleasantly surprised on how filling the tasting menu was. The menu had the following items: Tuna Tartare Crostini - great quality tuna over avocado. A nice way to start the dinner. Chicken Wings- Meaty Chicken Wings that were not overwhelmed with batter. The sauce was a little too light for my liking, however, it was not messy at all. Kampachi- This was my favorite fish of the evening. Maybe a little over seasoned but was absolutely delicious with the vegetables it came with. Branzino- This giant filet of fish had potato chips on top and a puttanesca vibe to it. Mixing all the flavors at once was a must. This yielded a fun explosion of flavors with every bite. Venison- Sadly, this was my least favorite dish. It had a beautiful presentation, but my meat came out well done. I was fighting to chew through it and ended up not finishing it. Crème Brûlée- By the time I had gotten to this point, I had already written Clarity off. However... this dessert was probably the best dessert I've had at a restaurant in ages. It was an experience in every bite. The wine that was paired with it made it even better. I was so pleased with it that I ordered a second helping of the dessert and a secondary pairing of wine to go with it. I would return here solely to have this dessert and wine pairing again! This restaurant never disappoints. This is one of our go to's for when we have a celebration. It's tradition that my husband takes me out for dinner on the last day of school. He took me here since we always leave satisfied. We typically get the tasting menu because we like when the chef makes the decisions for us. It was a four course dinner with a few extras added in. I've included the menu of foods as well as pictures. My husband wasn't sure which wine he wanted so they let him have a taste of two so he could decide. Clarity Is a gem! If you want some variety and something different to eat and never experience the same thing twice this is the place for you! I have reviewed this restaurant before but I didn't elaborate in detail on my experience. Chef Jon and his staff are amazing! From the time we came in to the restaurant to the time we left, we felt taken care of. Every person that came to our table was knowledgeable and friendly. The food is cooked perfectly everything just melts in your mouth. We ordered quite a bit of food and drinks and were so pleased that we did! I also want to add if you are a bourbon drinker you have to check out clarity's bourbon. It's quite amazing. Check out my pictures below. It was such an excellent experience and cannot wait for my next meal. I also would like to add that they all wear masks and the tables had these beautiful partitions that separate the tables so that you feel safe while enjoying your meal. Amazing hidden local spot in the area! My friend and I sat at the bar and was immediately greeted by the bartender who was very attentive to us! We stopped by for birthday drinks and even ended up getting desserts. I would describe the restaurant's ambiance as an upscale local restaurant! This place was good! The service is great, the decor is nice, and the food is delicious. I went on Valentine's Day and got the tasting menu 150/p. I put 4 stars bc I think it's a tad overpriced. 20 for a cocktail and 150 for 4 small courses and a dessert. The first course was well done. Fried fish was crispy on the outside and the inside was light and delicate and it came with a nice slaw. The pea torchon and caviar was goood. I've never had caviar before but I found out I'm allergic to peas. Oops. The A5 melted in my mouth and the potato and sauces they had with it went with it really well. The potato was really nice and crispy. The chocolate covered strawberry was a chocolate covered strawberry. The champagne sponge cake was soaked and it was so good. I loved it, even if it was a tad on the sweeter side. Overall a good experience and I recommend trying it! read more

Glad I ordered the bread bowl. We are not rushing back...ever. We were not impressed with anything. We ordered the Chef's tasting menu with the wine pairing. All in all, $400 for bread and wine; which would have been fine if I was in Italy, but I was not. Two of the dishes I took one bite and just said no. The first was the squash flower, all I could taste was grease. The next was the tuna, where the seasoning mix in the tuna over powered anything else the dish was trying to accomplish. I gave the tuna to the hubby, he will eat anything. The duck was tasty, but again nothing spectacular. The Chef did not come to the table, which we have noticed at several restaurants when we have ordered the chef's menu. No biggie, I don't really care if I speak to them or not. The waiter was kind and did offer a halibut in place of the tuna. I said I was fine, because who replaces tuna with halibut????? All in all the dinner was very disappointing. I feel two stars might be a little much, but it was higher than a one. read more
