We stopped in at 2pm for lunch and so happy that they were still available to serve. They are always so friendly and welcoming with not rushing. We ordered the chicken noodle soup which had a good peppery flavor and cute little noodles and zucchini Parmesan soup which was so good and creamy. I ordered the sweet potato with mozzarella quiche, who would have thought it would work but it tasted amazing! For dessert, we had a chocolate chip scone with homemade ice cream which didn't disappoint. We always have a wonderful time, love discovering something new each time we visit. read more

This place is adorable. We did not make a reservation during the late afternoon on a random Wednesday, but were still able to get in for lunch. My only issue was that since we were sat away from the main dining area it did feel like the waitress forgot about us a few times. Very long waits between checking in on us. The tea and food were delicious though and we will definitely be back! read more

Perhaps the owner of Clara J's Tea Room could use a refresher course on customer relations. When she was questioning our group of seven seniors about a problem with a bill, she was rude and loud. Our group was accused of someone not paying their bill. Remarks of "Who's going to pay for this" -" I'm going to have to eat this." - "Where am I going to get the money?" were loudly said. I always love a good high tea/ afternoon tea? (I don't know I get the two confused all the time.) Anyways, this place is wonderful. We enjoyed a cozy spot for two by a window. Service was great. And the food was delightful. The tea is $26 and there are only two seating times. We started off with one warm scone each that came with spreads. Then 3 savories and 3 sandwiches. Just cute finger foods. Finally we ended with 3 petite desserts. I was meh, about the desserts, but everything else was good. Oh, and we also got our own little pot of tea that we could get refills on. The menu changes so check their social media for what is current. They offer the proper tea and some al a carte items like soup, sandwiches, and quiche. This place was filled with guests so make sure you call in advance to set up a reservation. we parked on the street for free right in front of the house. read more

What a charming, lovely little place. Located in what appears to be a house in a residential area, this tea house has a great variety of teas. The proper tea is comparable to what I've had in the UK. I'm told that the menu changes seasonally but their signature ribbon sandwich (which is a part if the proper tea and lunch menus) is comforting and delicious. The child's entrees are also beautiful (pictured). The service is always great. My only complaint is there isn't enough Devonshire cream served with the scones and asking for more is an extra charge. This just a great place to go and have a leisurely lunch with friends. read more

This is a lovely little spot in Maumee! We went for my mom's birthday and had the best time at high tea. The house is cute and the service was fast and helpful. We were there for their fall menu and had the cranberry tea- delicious. We loved the ribbon sandwich and the little desserts. It is worth the price. Great place for a special occasion! We went in July for my sis' 85th birthday. Our group's ages ranged from 88 to almost 3 years old. The atmosphere and dynamics were demure, elegant and pampering. The service, presentation and food and beverage offerings were very well prepared and pleased everyone in our group of 10. My afternoon tea or as they refer to it as proper tea was phenomenal. I am an avid fan of this civilized custom of afternoon tea and visited numerous tea shops, hotels and restaurants throughout our country. Clara Js tearoom in Maumee, Oh is among the best! Located in an 1840s home on a quaint street, the tearoom and shop were decorated for Autumn and Halloween. I was greeted by the most personable staff who made the experience so delightful. My proper tea began with a tasty chocolate chip and cherry scone served with Devonshire cream, lemon curd and strawberry toppings. This was followed by a 3 tier tray beautifully garnished. All food was fresh and tasty. My favorite on the savory course was the sweet potato canape. The ribbon sandwich featuring chicken salad was a winner as well! The desserts were delicious highlighted by a mini brownie with fudge, butterscotch and caramel drizzle. I enjoyed 3 teas: celebration, Boston and orange creme. Clara Js is worth the visit! read more

I ordered carry out service from Clara J's and brought it back to Detroit to enjoy with my daughter. Everything superseded my expectations. The sandwiches were beautiful and delicately made. Clara J's was hosting Galentine's tea, and I thought it would be a fun activity to attend. The ambiance was amazing with the live piano, nicely decorated rooms, and cheerful service. The teas were brewed to perfection and each one that we tried had strong, distinct flavors and unlike any teas that I've had at say Starbucks or at home (to be expected). The only thing that I thought could be improved was the food - a lot of reminded me of desserts or small bites that you could buy at like a grocery store rather than the homemade food that we got at Sweet Shalom. For that alone, I would make Sweet Shalom my tea house of choice in Toledo, but I'd still say Clara J's is worth a trip! read more

Drove an hour from Ann Arbor for Clara J's and it did not disappoint! Our whole experience was amazing. Three of us got the proper tea which came with so much food we were stuffed! All so delicious...especially the scones we started out with. The ambiance is so cute and quaint, it makes you feel like you're in a whole other world. The owner was so friendly and her dad plays the piano in the main room filling the air with beautiful music and some great Disney classics. I will most definitely be returning. read more

I have been there around 8 times and every single time I am blown over by the friendliness of the staff, the taste and selection of the food, and the quaint ambiance! My sister and I had a delightful lunch at Clara J's. The atmosphere is very quaint, and the food was amazing. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious--Wild Rice and Mushroom Soup, Fall Chicken Salad on rye bread, Grilled Cheese, and the yummy dessert. We left with 5 small bags of tea to enjoy at home as well. All the personnel we came in contact with were extremely pleasant and very helpful. My family threw my baby shower here and Clara J's took a wonderful moment in my life and made it as close to perfect as humanly possible. The staff went above and beyond to fit the food selections to the shower's theme. My woodland shower had toadstool caprese, snail shaped finger sandwiches and more. They selected teas that were appropriate for my limited caffiene intake. My drink never ran out and I think my baby liked the food as much as I did. It is no wonder this place has three reviews. I attended a lunch about 8 years ago and it was tasty but incredibly tiny in portion. Much like Weight Watchers portions. I went again last week and was starving to death following the meal. Not worth the time, money or portions. What are these owners thinking? It's been for sale for a number of years. This unusual tea room is a real gem and credit to Maumee Ohio. The tearoom was one of the first int he area. It offers tea, food, party accommodation, and great shopping all bundled up into one cool location! If you are looking for a unique lunch this is the place! Excellent tea house and gift shop! I tried Clara J's for the first time over the weekend. I was part of a party of 3 and we all enjoyed proper tea. What a treat! Come hungry if you decide to have proper tea. Firstly, they have a great tea menu and serve Harney & Sons tea, which is delightful. We started our meal with a pot of tea to share and their homemade scones. We then were served proper tea which included a few appetizers, delicious sandwiches, and three mini desserts. Everything was very tasty. We were able to sample of few teas and I think had 3 pots during our visit. I will definitely go here again. It's a nice, relaxing treat for lunch. The proper tea is meant to be savored so the staff does not rush you at all and you can enjoy pots of tea while visiting with friends. For proper tea, you must call ahead and make reservations. Clara J's also serves lunch and you can order off of their menu. On Saturdays, I would still make a reservation if we were just going for lunch. Take a good look around their gift shop after your meal! They have the cutest items. read more
