If you like fried clam strips, this place is really awesome. I can't say it's better than the clam box in Ipswich, I'd say they're comparable. Both are expenses. Both are excellent in the service of both are great too. Even being so close to Ipswich with clams come from, I still really expenses wherever you get plans. That's just the way it is. My mom turns mine like this month, so we went to the Willows to get fried clams watch the water. Her birthday is in another week and she wants to go back again on the day of her birthday to repeat one of her favorite meals. We used to sit on a bench facing the water rather than their outdoor seating. The last person actually bought a lobster roll and said it was very very good. It looked like it had very little mayo and no celery and was pure lobster which is great. It was $28 which is actually a very good price for a good lobster roll so no complaints here. Highly recommend it sufficient, good and reliable.
Delicious food! Came for lunch with my mom and aunt. I had the chicken fingers and they were delicious. We had a lot of questions and they were good about answering. Definitely a yummy spot to eat at the Salem willows! I love the outdoor seating area as well. We sat at a table where we could see the water... nice vibes overall. Would definitely come back when visiting the Salem willows.
We went as a large group twice. Def recommend upgrading to the brioche for the lobster roll (cold with mayo). The clam strips, shrimp, scallops, whole clams, cole slaw, and fries were all delicious too. Their tartar sauce is the bomb.com. The lobster roll beat the crab roll, but the crab roll was still delicious. It's a great place to go and grab a table outside, enjoy the view, and have some yummy seafood.
First, I am surprised that i haven't been here prior, but that's a tale of another restaurant's closing. This is a gem. Great menu- we had steamers, lobster roll, and an excellent grilled cheese. Clean picnic tables with umbrellas overlooking the water. Nice staff, fair prices. Hint: Go to Hobbs for dessert.
Amazing lobster roll. Go for the premium for the extra dollar. Perfect place for the kids, take note it is window service. Set with the ocean just on the side of you. So ambiance is a dream.

The Clam Shack is a seasonal seafood restaurant (but really it is just a shack with no inside seating) located on Salem Willows. I checked it out on a Sunday afternoon in July with my mom. It was pretty busy, with the line wrapping around the side of the building as people waited to order. We ordered a large clam strip basket and a large onion ring. The portion size of the clam strips was massive! They were perfectly battered with a crispy crunch coming right out of the fryer. The onion rings were excellent as well, as they held their circular form and the breading did not fall off, something that tends to happen with a lot of onion rings. They have a number of outdoor picnic tables to sit at or you can get your order to go. The only downside of sitting outside is the seagulls, which have clearly learned that there is fresh food to be had. These birds are daring too, with one of them dive-bombing our table while we were sitting at it in order to steal a clam strip. I'm not sure what the restaurant could do to combat this, considering it sits right on the water, but it did make for a somewhat uneasy eating experience, constantly feeling like you had to be on guard. Ultimately, though, the fresh seafood is worth fighting off the scavengers.
We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon in August and this place was busy as could be! We were initially excited because of the reviews but this will be our only visit to the Clam Shack. We ordered the Clam Bake and a large Onion Rings. The Clam Bake comes with a small lobster, 1/2 pound of steamers, corn on the cob, clam chowder, clam broth and drawn butter. We were going to get a lobster roll as well, but we saw others who had this and none of the rolls were actually filled with lobster meat (~80%). It took roughly 15 minutes for the order to come out and I could understand since they were busy but we were told it's because the steamers take a while to cook. The only problem was the only part of our meal that was cold was the steamers. The clambake lobster and corn was actually fantastic. But the steamers were cold when we got them, the onion rings didn't have any real crunch or flavor and the clam chowder was just ok. All in all, this place is located in a great spot and is convenient, but not worth the hype.
My husband and I shared a box of fried calamari, and the batter was very light, fluffy, and fresh tasting. The size was ample, and the young adult who took our order was kind and efficient. The picnic tables all had umbrellas and were clean, the view of the harbor was very nice, and they had classic pop music playing from their outdoor speakers, which was fun to listen to. We will be back to try more of the large menu they offer.
The Clam Shack in Salem serves up some seriously tasty fried seafood! I ordered the fried clam strips and fried shrimp plate, and everything was hot, crispy, and full of flavor. The line was absolutely insane, which is the only reason this isn't a 5-star review. Luckily, I discovered a life hack--placing an order online to skip the wait. At $30, it's not cheap, but the quality and portion size made it worth it.
This place is a must for anyone who enjoys seafood. I came here on a Monday night after a day of work. Clam shack is just as advertised in the name: a small building dedicated to serving seafood and other fried goodies from the take out window. The staff were very helpful l. they took my order, gave me my ticket, and I sat and waited. And only for a few minutes. I ordered a lobster roll on a buttered brioche roll. The lobster was tender and juicy, and the buttery roll complemented it perfectly. The portion of fries that came with it was generous. And even better, it was a $23 lobster roll instead of the stupidly expensive $50 ones you'll get if you grab one in Boston. Well worth the price. And to top it all off, there's a gorgeous view of the harbor. Whether visiting this area or a Boston native, definitely make your way up here.
Let's face it, fried seafood can taste amazing if done reasonably well. And the Clam Shack executed my Scallop Plate very nicely. Our party of four grabbed a picnic table with a nice ocean view. About 10 minutes after our order, I was enjoying hot and crispy, fresh tasting scallops. They were nicely cooked, and didn't have too much batter, so they weren't overly heavy. Their fries were also excellent, hot, crispy, delicious. The lobster rolls were given positive reviews from my co-diners. The casual Salem Willows environment was perfect, on this warm summer day. The Clam Shack is located in Salem Willows Park, a 35 acre park located on the ocean with picnic areas, a beach, walking paths, fishing, tennis, basketball courts, arcade games, and restaurants. It's a great place to visit, if you not afraid of the Salem witches!

Whatever plans you have to eat in Salem, give them up right now and head over to The Clam Shack at the Willows. The sheer volume they put out from the tiny kitchen is impressive and the food is unbelievable. My mother and I had steamers and lobster rolled (all for $55! That's insane!!). The steamers were huge and perfect. The lobster rolls were monster and had just the right amount of mayo. What makes it an even better experience is the location. Sitting beside the ocean destroying steamers is a wonderful experience. My mother said hello to the owner, who remembered her from years past and he was so nice. Go now and tip the fantastic teenagers well. read more

We never really review too many things while on vacation because we are too busy vacationing...until today! We took a trolley tour of Salem and spotted this little gem while on the tour. We decided to have a snack before leaving the area, and that's when I remembered the cute little spot on the water named Clam Shack. We ordered a Lobster Roll and a small box of fried Clam strips. The price was extremely fair and OMG...the food was the best we have had the last 5 days we have been traveling from Bar Harbor down to Boston. The owner and staff were so very nice, and the park-like setting on the water was just beautiful. The Lobster Roll was THE BEST we have ever eaten, and the small box of Clams were of a generous portion and delicious. Do yourself a favor after witch hunting and go try this place, or skip the hunt and go straight there. It's pretty wicked in a great way! read more
Spent the day in Salem coming in from the Boston Ferry. Found this place on Yelp and took a $6 cab from the touristy area downtown. I'm glad we made the detour. The food was good, it's in a park on the shore. People were nice. Very low-key with picnic tables outside. You have to realize it's an actual Shack outside, but I was content. It was a fun little detour and we probably wouldn't have seen this other side of Salem had we not gone here. Clam strips were tasty. Get the Brioche for the lobster roll. It is worth the couple extra bucks! Disclaimer-- my husband kind of looked at me wondering why we went out of our way and paid $30+ dollars to eat at a shack in the park... It's probably more of a 3.5 but rounding up here. read more

Great clam roll. You have to ask for tartar sauce so make sure you do - it is delicious! I switched out the fries for cole slaw and got a side of onion rings. Worth the trip! read more

I am such a fan of the Clam Shack at Salem Willows. It's one of our favorite summer stops and we bring family who come to town for a visit because the seafood has always been amazingly good. It's not cheap, but the food had always been delicious and plentiful. We ventured out of our house for the for take-out food for the first t ime in two months because of the Covid lockdown and chose this place because we knew we could do take-out and eat somewhere on a picnic table or bench nearby. They opened for the season May 15th, so they've been up and running for a couple of weeks already. We called in our order, paid by credit card and picked it up at the window, it was ready when we arrived at the scheduled time. The eating area with the picnic tables was still closed because of Covid guidelines which we sort of expected. There were lots of people hanging out waiting for food, but appropriately distancing. We got fried whole clams, fried shrimp and onion rings. The food was still hot. The clams were really chewy and rubbery. Very disappointing because they have always been fabulous. The shrimp were not even fully cooked. They "looked" cooked and were golden, but they were still translucent and undercooked. And the onion rings were excessively salty, even inedible. This was a trifecta of disappointment. What a huge let down. I'm not even sure I'll go back again. After all this is New England and you can spit and hit another seafood place with better fried seafood. An extremely disappointing outing. read more
Came here for lunch with some friends and it was fantastic. I had the lobster roll. It was delicious!! A generous amount of lobster at a very reasonable price ($15). It is normally served on a regular roll- for an extra buck you can get it on a brioche roll. DO THAT!!! It was soooo good! Also awesome was the atmostphere. The kid working at the counter was friendly, the service was relatively quick, they had a great play list going (lots of throwbacks) and you can't beat the view. If I lived in the area I think I'd be here all the time. read more

Well after a six-hour drive I was excited to try one of their lobster rolls. It was good, a little bland and certainly would be my number 1 on my New England's tiniest lobster roll list LOL. I would not return I've had much much better. read more

Absolutely wonderful food at a great price! View overlooking the harbor can't be beat, especially at sunset. Came with a large party and everyone was very pleased with their food, from Steamed Lobsters to Crab Rolls and Clam Strips. Highly recommend! read more

We were originally going to get take-out but since it was nice and there were picnic tables available, we decided to take advantage of the breeze and scenery by the water. Good seafood and large portions. Some of the better clams I've had around here (Salem/Peabody/Swampscott) lately. read more

We absolutely LOVED everything about the Clam Shack! The location is awesome with fantastic water views and lots a shade trees to enjoy your meal. The food was excellent! This is random, but they have the BEST tartar sauce I've ever had in my life. Hubby ordered the haddock with fries and says it was perfect. A great sized filet that had just enough crispy breading and was very tasty. I had the clam strip basket that was equally delicious. Again, the breading was just right and the clams were cooked perfectly. The fries were good and both meals offered good portion sizes. We brought our three dogs who enjoyed the view and very dog friendly atmosphere. read more

Stopped by here last weekend after taking the kids to the Salem Willow's arcade. The line was a little long but not too bad, I waited about 25 minutes to order. The customer service was great they are really friendly and funny. The food is amazing. The menu is full of delicious seafood. I tried the Haddock dinner which came with fries and coleslaw. It was baked and just the right amount if crispy. The tartar was so good, with lots of onions, I think they make it. They have a few picnic benches with umbrellas to eat at (for their customers only ). They give you a number with your receipt and when your order is ready they call it over the speaker so you can take a little walk and enjoy the view while you're waiting. There is no indoor seating. read more

I literally still have butter on my hands as I'm typing this, hahaha. So, I was feeling a little bummed out because I spent nearly a week in Salem and hadn't tried a lobster roll. I figured, oh well, just not meant to be right? So my gf and I were buying candy from Ye Olde Pepper Companie, when we overheard the sweet, loveable lady behind the counter recommend the Clam Shack as the best lobster roll in town. My gf looked at me and said we're gonna get you one before we fly back. We took a Lyft down to the Clam Shack, asked the driver to wait, ordered a lobster roll with butter on brioche, and hopped back into the cab and off to the airport. It was delicious! Amazingly good and came with fries too. Eating your first lobster roll in the back of a Lyft, heading to the airport, is maybe not everyone's idea of the perfect lunch, but it genuinely was. If you are anywhere near Salem, go get a lobster roll from the Clam Shack. Employees were super friendly, food was delicious, and it was very friendly on the wallet too! Thanks Clam Shack! read more
