Shopping in Aiea, O'ahu, Hawaii... I was walking back to my car - through Pearlridge Mall - when I passed by Claire's and decided to take a look. Located on the second level, near Macy's, this chain store is known for its merchandise aimed at younger girls. However, they also do ear piercings and I saw some teenaged boys getting their lobes pierced! I used to find more Hello Kitty items, but I think the trend has died down. Sometimes I get seasonal merchandise the day after the holiday when it's discounted. This time, I didn't see anything that I normally buy. Then - I saw the Clearance section and got five $10 items at $2 each. It would have totaled $10, but the cashier said, "It's twelve for twelve." I replied, "Twelve of these for $12?" Yes! Whoa... like a dollar each??? For $2 more, I can get seven more!?!?! What a deal!!! Of course, I had to get them. I can't tell you what they are because I'm going to use them as gifts at the next UYE (Unofficial Yelp Event) on 2-5-23. They'll make Great party favors!!! Ok so, there's a lot of super cute things in this store. MORE THAN it was when I was growing up. However, prices can be a bit high for its value. But, they always have sales and discounts. You just have to make sure you catch them before it's too late. So, what I did for my daughter is, sign up for the emails to be notified each time they have sales, discounts, specials, new & clearance merch. I believe they have a rewards thing too. That... I'm not too sure if I understand how it works tho. We have a $5 off any item, but when I went to redeem it, it didn't give a code or a coupon. So I didn't get to use it yet. This one girl who works there was so helpful to both my daughter and I and she was super awesome. It was Black Friday, we had 3 minutes left and she was patient. THANK YOU! We took about 10 MAYBE 15 minute's. But it made my daughter day because she really wanted to get her friends something from there. read more

Well, I sometimes stop here to see what they have because they have cute items while im shopping in pearlridge. However the main thing i do not like about this place, is that it is very cramped and smells like pee. I'm pretty sure that a kid peed on the carpet and I know they tried to clean it up and get rid of the odor, but its still kind of pungent. read more

‼ Avoid this place for cartilage piercings--lobes only, if anything! I made the mistake of getting 4 cartilage piercings here--3 on my right ear and 1 on my left. My usual piercer is amazing and works at a reputable tattoo/piercing shop, but I strayed after seeing a couple of cute cartilage photos here. Big regret. I asked questions before getting pierced and even told the girl I normally go to a professional. She reassured me, saying they're trained and that "most places don't even train, they just do." So I trusted her. The piercings hurt a lot, but I figured the pain would subside. It didn't. A couple of weeks later, I came back because one piercing was done crooked--the wing back was angled wrong, and I hadn't even slept on it. She apologized and fixed it, and I figured it was just a mistake. Stupid me, I decided to get another piercing on my left ear. I already had one cartilage piercing on that ear (which was fine), but once she added another, both started hurting like crazy. I eventually had to remove them both. Out of the 5 total cartilage piercings, I'm left with 3 on my right ear. All three are still painful, and the wing backs keep going crooked no matter what I do. I had to take them off and use soft rubber backs from other earrings just to keep the holes from closing. I'm out nearly $200, and possibly more if these don't heal properly. I've never had issues with any of my previous piercings--this was the first and only time. Don't make the same mistake I did. Stick to professionals at piercing or tattoo studios, especially for cartilage. Friendly talk and pretty pics aren't worth the pain, money, or risk. read more

My daughter loves this store. She is obsessed with jewelry and accessories. Claire's is the best spot for her to go crazy. There are such a wide range of cutsie little girl things like phone cases, hair accessories, kids makeup, blind bag toys, jewelry, even mini backpacks and wallets. They offer ear piercing service as well. This Pearlridge location is just filled to the gills! No room to really do anything. Once a mom with a stroller goes in, heck with it. You're stuck in the back of the store for the day. I'm definitely not hating on stroller or mom's with them... alls I'm sayin' is that the darn place is Harry Potter's room. A broom closet! For all the racks and shelves that are in this store you'd think they would like to grow into a bigger space. When you first walk in, there are tons of sale signs. The most common one is the buy 3 get 3 free. Of course as all sales states, of equal or lesser value. It seems like a good deal, but hardly ever do you find 6 items in the same price range. So you'll more than likely spend way more than you anticipated upon walking in. I love taking advantage of the sale in the clearance area, but that's another crap shoot. The employees are all friendly. Always young ones so customer service is not their forte. They do the basic, minimum. Ring items at the register, try to help when asked and maybe on occasion let you know the current promos. As long as my daughter is in the tweens she'll be a fan. Me on the other hand, I'll check it out if she wants to but if at all possible I'd like to avoid getting swallowed up by this tiny store... read more

Everything is overpriced and its only worth going when they have their buy 3, get 3 free sales or for their really cheap clearance. On average a normal pair of earrings costs 12.99, even the very small pairs. Go elsewhere for better deals. They offer stamp cards but only full-price earrings count as a stamp on your card. read more

The store was a little bit un organized. I went to get my ears pierced, After I took about 15 minutes to choose which earrings I wanted. They put in the wrong Earrings. This made my husband very unhappy since this was my Mother's Day gift. It's not like they could change the earrings after they put them in, so I told him that it was OK so that he would not make a scene. But instead of being apologetic, the sales girl told me that I look good in pearls. I did not choose pearls because I have several pairs of pearls at home. And They Did not offer a discount for their mistake, that costed me $55 When We Went to go pay for our services, they charged me for the earrings that I had asked for previously not the earrings that they gave me. Then it took another 20 minutes for them to change the mistake on the computer. By then the store was filling up and there was crying children. Got my boys ears pierced here today. I had to make an appointment to get the service done. But with our busy schedule it wasn't a problem. The first time I called they had appointments available that day but we were busy. When we got there the lady knew we had an appointment and helped us pretty quick. The earring prices were really reasonable(I thought it was going to be more expensive). We were there for 20-30 minutes total to pierce all 4 boys ears. The workers there were really friendly and provided good customer service. I would recommend this store to anyone who wants to get their ear pierced. Ok, so when an item rings up for $5.00...just as it says on the racking it is pulled from, how can they say, "oh these aren't $5.00, and a just the piece UP to $8.00?! Well, that's exactly what this location did. When asked about it, she said oh our system is messed up. News Flash, in the customer service industry, you honor the price on the sign and as it rings up. I will never give them my business again. Got my cartilage pierced here in August and the healing process has been nothing short of a nightmare. I don't even know how this place was approved to pierce ears. The jewelry they give you (sterling silver) causes oxidation (turns the area around your skin gray/black) and use a non-sterile plastic piercing gun that destroys your cartilage and makes the hole prone to infection and severe pain when traditionally a sterile needle should be used. The pain that was inflicted lasted for about a week due to the fact that my cartilage was pretty much torn open by the gun. Secondly, the cleaning solution they give you is simply watered down bleach and did nothing to prevent infection in my ears, additionally the cleaning instructions they give you are WRONG and should not be followed. I was told to twist the piercing back and forth in my ear when you SHOULD NOT. Now, three months later I am unfortunately dealing with a serious infection on the piercing in my right ear. I have done everything possible to ensure the healing process went smoothly but it was simply because of the fact that untrained teenage girls have no idea what they're doing. A similar experience happened to my friend as well where she got her nose pierced and it got extremely infected. It only healed because she switched out the jewelry. I'm surprised I haven't seen more negative reviews about the piercing practices here but if you're going to get your ears pierced I recommend that you do it with a trained professional at a much lower price elsewhere. read more

The accessories and pretty pastel unicorn items are cute. But not really what I would buy myself. I popped in to do some Christmas shopping and just absolutely felt like I needed to get out for some fresh air. Bringing in a stroller would be an absolute nightmare. I wouldn't even bother carrying baby in a backpack. Your space and turning ratio is limited in here. Not to mention the prices have gotten pricey! I used to shop here for friends back in the day...sad to say I was looking for very small gold hoops for my second and cartilage piercing. I found it online for the half the price of what Claire's was selling it for..And With the amount of gifts I had to get, this just wasn't the place to get them all checked off my list within my budget.. Don't get me wrong, the store has a lot to offer and I want to buy everything for them, it's just jam packed, overwhelming and overpriced. Buy 3 get 3, yeah, idk why and idk how but I can't ever find 6 items, more importantly well within the same price range. Went in to buy 2 tiny hoops for cartilage piercings yesterday. The 2 girls working the afternoon shift provided excellent customer service ( which is very rare these days.) I was debating whether or not I should get my daughters ears pierced at a tattoo shop or at Clair's. Thanks to a friend at work, I chose Clair's. His daughter had a good experience so I decided it would be okay. He said they were very kid friendly and she would like it, and she did. She was all good till the actual piercing part. Two girls did it, one for each ear so she could get it over at one time. They were super sweet. She cried initially, (she's 5) but a minute later she was all good. They gave her a lollipop and next thing we know, she's walking around looking for other things to get lol. They triple checked to make sure we were picking the earrings that we wanted. The girl also made sure I was happy with where the placement of the piercings would be. They were awesome! I'm sorry I didn't get the girls names but I wasn't planing to write a review. I haven't shopped here in what seems like years but I made a recent visit because I wanted to get my baby's ears pierced. This review is based solely on that. Being a new mother, I was naturally and expectedly so so nervous to get my baby girl's ears pierced and at 4 months old. I didn't catch her name, but the lady who helped us was so patient with us. Before the piercing, marks are placed on the ears. I swear we had asked the lady a million times to change the marks, but she never complained once or looked irritated. She was also very clear with her instructions about how I should hold my baby during the process. I was extremely thankful that the entire experience went so smoothly. read more

Staff has always been friendly but it seemed like there were too many workers there at one time...and that store is already cramped and tiny! You can always walk away with some sort of deal though, usually bogo 50% and I used to love the 10 items for $5...not sure if that still happens. I did find what I was looking for though--bun helpers (for the hair, not the rump) and because it was bogo, I ended up with two...and some KP lashes haha. So...basically come here if you're looking for "trendy" items or novelty things like bun helpers or the latest boy band merch...I even saw some 50 Shades of Grey stuff, not sure if that's appropriate for the teeny-boppers haha. We came in to buy a TY Beanie Boo for a friends daughter. They had a few different ones to choose from. They also had the different sizes, which was great. But this store is so packed tightly in a little space, I was going crazy. Seems like every time I tried to turn around my purse would hit something (sometimes things would fall off the pegs or get caught on my purse). It is a so tight in there that people can't look at the same things together. For me the real topper of this trip to Claire's is when the Manager starts talking about "being with married men." It is very unprofessional and there are little girls in the store! She was very involved in her story to the other employees that no one said a word to any customers. I've got two daughters and three younger sisters so it seems I've been a customer of Claires all my life. LOL They have great selections of earrings, jewelry, accessories, specialty accesories for proms, halloween, etc. and my favorite is the Christmas holiday goodies. Every year my girls get new jingle bell earrings and light up necklaces. Always friendly employees are quick to offer a little shopping basket. By far, this store has the most friendliest staff. I was looking for a tutu and matching colorful socks to purchase for my next run event but they really didn't have any displayed. But if you're looking for simple and/or gaudy jewelry that won't break your wallet, then this is the perfect place to find everything from earrings to bracelets to rings to hair accessories. I don't know how this place stays open. Went in to look around. Not once was any customer greeted by either of the 2 employees standing behind the register. Both were too busy worrying about their cell phones to even acknowledge anybody walking around their tiny little store. It's a small store with A LOT of items. It's even sometimes a maze to get out. I try to look for a area where nobody is in. Because the other day a claire's worker dressed up as snow white almost ran into me! And didnt even say anything, like I wasnt there!
