Total price including re-testing was just over $900.00. When I requested clarification of why the complete housing had to be replaced the service tech and the person I contacted at Ottagan said that the housing's do wear out. It didn't seem right so I contacted Macatawa Plumbing. The service tech came out replaced a small plastic part and saved me over $720.00, including the retesting of the backflow device.

I spent over $10,000 on this "deal", as at that time they were offering a "FREE" a/c unit with the purchase of a new furnace!!! When my furnace only lasted 3 1/2 years, I didn't bother calling them for service. In 2023, I needed the A coil cleaned. One company would NOT service my furnace because it was specifically listed FOR A MOBILE HOME!!!! They sold me a death trap and wouldn't even come out to see what the problem was!!! With a cracked and leaking heat exchanger, ( that had been leaking for awhile since the floor around the furnace was wet, the insulation was wet, and where the water had leaked were white spots where the water had dried and RUST!!!) When they called me, I was told that their service man would have to come out to check it. Told them I didn't need their serviceman to come and check it as two other heating and cooling companies had already told me the heat exchanger was cracked and leaking. Found out later the heat exchanger had a 20 year warranty. THAT'S THE ONLY REASON THEY WANTED TO COME OUT WAS SO THEY COULD TAKE THE HEAT EXCHANGER AND GET THE REFUND ON IT!!! Didn't matter that I could have died from carbon monoxide due to the inferior furnace. ALL THEY CARED ABOUT WAS GETTING THE MONEY BACK FOR THE DEFECTIVE HEAT EXCHANGER!!!! DON'T give this company permission to do any type of heating in your home. They sell these Miller brand furnaces for a reason!!! Right there on the company iPad, that's handed to you by the guys who just fixed your expensive af water issue. Can't remember if it was 10% 15% 20%...or 15% 20% 25%. What I do remember is how freaking awkward it felt. When I go out to eat, get my hair done, or grab a coffee...I know these things are a part of an industry that relies on tips. When I have service guys over to my house (new homeowner, so it's more common than I'd like) I often cash tip a $20 or more depending on the work and time. But to be asked to tip 20% on $500 or $1000 dollars unexpectedly--do that math. Ugh. The guys were great and their work was solid. It's not on them for a crappy ending to the service call. If Great Lakes would have mentioned their tipping expectation in advance, like when I scheduled or when they sent a confirmation, it would have been a better experience. Sharing so you don't feel caught off guard the way I was.
