BUT, be prepared…read more If you're paying by credit or debit card, their processing system prompts you to tip. Right there on the company iPad, that's handed to you by the guys who just fixed your expensive af water issue. Can't remember if it was 10% 15% 20%...or 15% 20% 25%. What I do remember is how freaking awkward it felt. When I go out to eat, get my hair done, or grab a coffee...I know these things are a part of an industry that relies on tips. When I have service guys over to my house (new homeowner, so it's more common than I'd like) I often cash tip a $20 or more depending on the work and time. But to be asked to tip 20% on $500 or $1000 dollars unexpectedly--do that math. Ugh. The guys were great and their work was solid. It's not on them for a crappy ending to the service call. If Great Lakes would have mentioned their tipping expectation in advance, like when I scheduled or when they sent a confirmation, it would have been a better experience. Sharing so you don't feel caught off guard the way I was.

This time, it was the kitchen sink faucet which started spraying all kinds of water from the underside faucet mounting whenever the water was turned on. I assumed the faucet was shot and would need to be replaced, so I called for a plumber. After calling 7 (seven!) plumbers and getting no response from 6 and 1 message that they could come out in about a week, I finally called Cascade Plumbing and they came out the very next morning. The plumber was a quiet old dude, but clean, competent and professional. He was also honest! Instead of up-charging me for a new faucet, he told me that the existing faucet might not have been installed properly (big surprise from Eastbrook.) He explained what was wrong and was able to fix it right then and there. No replacement was needed and the charge was minimal. This company exceeded my expectations. I will be calling Cascade if I need plumbing services in the future!

Usually when I try a plumbing project, I end up messing things up and call a professional. (I was…read moreover confident having changed a flapper valve on a toilet, I thought I could fix a bath tub faucet). Once I was in over my head, I called the company I've used for over 20 years. (purchased hot water heaters, furnace, toilets and multiple faucets from them over the years). I had to turn the water off for the entire house as the bathtub doesn't have individual shut off valves like sink faucets. I told them I had the water off and need their help ASAP. This occurred on a Thursday and they told me next Wednesday was the soonest they could have someone out. I tried McDonald Plumbing having seen their trucks around and in the neighborhood. They put me on hold and came back saying they could be at the house in 45 minutes. Sure enough, they arrived and got me out of hot water.(no pun intended) I also had them do a few other things and found their pricing and professionalism impressive. Simply put, McDonald is my new plumber. I've been quite effusive recommending them as a result.

Even showing us where to get a part on our own so they wouldn't have to charge us. Great service and great pricing! Would recommend!

Update: I did have someone reach out from the company named Andy to explain their pricing and…read moreoffered a solution to make things right in my eyes. The pricing isn't by hourly, but by a software they use to find the best rates for the job required. Ultimately, I've voiced my concerns of how that system works and what I think could change but they are sticking with the way the price structure works, as it works for them. I am happy with the solution that was offered to me, and would use this company again, but more so for serious issues that require an expert to come out. When booking the appointment, it was explained to me that it was $85 to have the team come out, and an additional $125 for diagnostic of the situation of my leaky pipe, which could be used towards the maintenance cost. The determination made by the technician is that the pack nuts needed to be screwed tighter, and it took the technician less than 2 minutes to do so. For this labor, I was charged $220, and the charge is not itemized, it is just marked as misc. - and I had no option to just tighten it myself, as it already cost me $125 for the technician to diagnose the issue. Since I was charged $220 for 2-3 minutes of labor, that's about $6600 per hour that they charge. If we did just the $95 on top of the diagnostic, that's $2,850 per hour for their labor. I understand they are a business and I am not saying I expected the work to be free, but for the fact it was an additional $95 for him to tighten the pack nuts in 2-3 minutes is crazy. I asked about why it costs so much / the charge couldn't be a flat $125 since it was a simple solution, the technician told me it was a liability if he didn't charge me for his work, and since he had to screw TWO pack nuts, that's where the extra charge came in. If you go through this company, just expect a labor cost of $47.50 per minute.
