Update: I did have someone reach out from the company named Andy to explain their pricing and offered a solution to make things right in my eyes. The pricing isn't by hourly, but by a software they use to find the best rates for the job required. Ultimately, I've voiced my concerns of how that system works and what I think could change but they are sticking with the way the price structure works, as it works for them. I am happy with the solution that was offered to me, and would use this company again, but more so for serious issues that require an expert to come out. When booking the appointment, it was explained to me that it was $85 to have the team come out, and an additional $125 for diagnostic of the situation of my leaky pipe, which could be used towards the maintenance cost. The determination made by the technician is that the pack nuts needed to be screwed tighter, and it took the technician less than 2 minutes to do so. For this labor, I was charged $220, and the charge is not itemized, it is just marked as misc. - and I had no option to just tighten it myself, as it already cost me $125 for the technician to diagnose the issue. Since I was charged $220 for 2-3 minutes of labor, that's about $6600 per hour that they charge. If we did just the $95 on top of the diagnostic, that's $2,850 per hour for their labor. I understand they are a business and I am not saying I expected the work to be free, but for the fact it was an additional $95 for him to tighten the pack nuts in 2-3 minutes is crazy. I asked about why it costs so much / the charge couldn't be a flat $125 since it was a simple solution, the technician told me it was a liability if he didn't charge me for his work, and since he had to screw TWO pack nuts, that's where the extra charge came in. Highly unprofessional and overpriced! I called to have a small piece of PVC drainage pipe replaced for my tankless water heater as it had a crack. They informed me at the visit (was not disclosed when I made the appointment) it would be $85 for the visit to my home, $120 for diagnostics (ridiculous as I told them the problem), and they have a minimum service fee of $210. My estimate was well over $400 to fix a small PVC pipe. I told them that price was ridiculous and the plumber agreed. None of these fees were disclosed prior to the visit and they refused to waive them when they were not previously disclosed stating it is their policy even though they acknowledged customers are regularly not being informed of the fees when appointments are scheduled. I asked for the supervisor's information and was told by the workers they did not have this, I would need to call the main number. I had to pay them to get them to leave. It was very uncomfortable and I can only imagine how intimated the vulnerable population must feel in these situations. I filed a complaint the BBB. Do better Bergsma! read more

My dad's hot water heater needed replacing . He called them he told and he told him that his hot water heater was leaking. It took them 4 hours to get to his place . They said , two guys , that they came from Rockford to Hudsonville , my dad's home . With no hot water heater . So then they had to run back to Comstock Park to their warehouse to get a hot water heater and then come back . So they ran up the bill when they could have picked up the hot water heater on their way from Rockford to his house . The bill is over $3,000 . Hot water heater at Lowe's is 700 . My dad asked for an itemized bill and it says labor $2,900. That's not itemized . He's called three times in 2 days and still has not been able to talk to the manager or the owner . This company is a ripoff . Way over priced, and it took two guys over 4 hours to do the job. I can see why when they were mostly on the road running upbthe bill. The water heater is in his garage, in a utility room. Easy access. Terrible buisiness. BBB says they hsve had 12 complaints in 6 months. How many people havs said nothing. I had a leak underneath my kitchen sink which leaked into the basement. I called Bergsma Plumbing after hours. The emergency charge for an after- hours call was $250.00. The plumber advised me that there was a pinhole leak in the pipe. The charge to fix the pipe was $537.00. (total charge $787.00). I sent two texts to the plumber that same evening advising her that there was still significant leaking (emptying buckets, sopping wet towels) in the basement. She said that it was residual leaking. I came home from work the following day and still had heavy leaking in the basement. I texted and call Bergsma's. They indicated that would try to come out the same night/early morning 2:00 AM to 4:30 AM. I received another text indicating that the technician's shift ended at 6:00 AM, and that the other plumber would come to my house around 7:00 AM. She fixed a cracked pipe and removed the osmosis tank. The labor and parts were $377.00, In a 48 hour period, I incurred additional water damage and expenses when the problem should have been corrected the first evening. My total out of pocket expenses were $1164.00. I asked the plumber to fix a leaky faucet on my laundry sink which totaled $537.00. For the poor service, inconvenience, and exorbitant pricing, I will select another plumbing company in the future. read more

Called for service and had someone over a week later. I mentioned my pressure tank was making a thumping noise where pressure is bouncing from 40-50. plumber came out and told me it's a pressure switch but he doesn't carry those on the truck so he'll have to run to hardware store. after the new switch it installed it is still thumping so he FaceTimes someone to troubleshoot they end up releasing some pressure from the tank and the thumping quit. they told me I must've over pressurized it and its been happening. I've been living here 5 years and it has never done this. Presure switch - $365. I confirmed they're about $50 at the store. labor - $85 24 hours later we are thumping. I was optimistic to have someone seem eager to come help us right away with our broken dishwasher. Said they would arrive between 10-12...they texted 10 mins ahead of time to say they were on their way, got to my house by 9:25. so that was a frantic rush with my kiddos. To my surprise, TWO techs showed up (always just had one in the past from other companies) even though my text notification only named one tech, Kyle. Seemed to be more focused on my loud garbage disposal then the broken dishwasher that's damaging my kitchen floor from leaking water...After about 40 mins, no resolution to my problem. I was told probably better off just buying a new dishwasher to avoid the cost of moving the dishwasher out to check the lines. Thank god I decided on a new dishwasher because I was shocked to find out I was charged $295! Looking back at the invoice, I see a fee of $85 to come out & was charged for BOTH techs which was $210 (& why wasn't I notified of the cost of the 2nd tech?? shady) for about 40 mins and NO resolution! Prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable. The tech they sent was great. This said I give them 4 stars (3.5 would be more appropriate) instead of 5 because they were VERY pricey. We purchased a kitchen faucet and it was marked up at least 3x. I know this because the tech showed us their cost. We also needed 2 sink drain heads installed as 1 of them was leaking and we were told we'd need to replace both because of the way the two sinks were plumbed. We decided to live with it because they wanted over $800 to sell and install these. This is a boat load of money for two retirees on a fixed income. So they fixed one leak with the new faucet, but they priced us out for the sink head drains so we still have a leak. I am not saying they are dishonest but they get their money for sure. $85 to show up and an additional $185 to diagnose the issue. The $185 is taken off the price ONLY IF you decide to use them. At that point you are sort of locked in financially and of course this is by design. If you do not decide to use them you are out all that money, which is why we had no choice but to overpay for the installation of a faucet. Again, I am not saying they are dishonest, but they are pretty darn expensive. All this said I was happy with the finished product, but probably would not use them again just because of the way they structure their pricing. read more

Took him less than 10 minutes to replace fill valve and inside tank parts ( said we didn't need a new flapper ) We he told me the cost I almost choked 390.00 dollars. !!!! well he left and all night toilet flushed by itself. I called and they sent Josh. He said flapper problem ! Didn't replace-it and said I owed 85 service call. I refused to pay. He said he had car problems but couldn't call the office or the customer to give me a heads up, for that reason that's a huge strike against them. I don't know what this says about the company but if he was my employee, I would be livid. just spoke with the manager that didn't sound very apologetic. He just told me he was going to have my review removed because I wasn't a customer. I still can't believe somebody can't make a phone call with all the cell phone today he even had all the information wrong. He thought he called me, but I had to call the office to find out where they were at after listening to the manager because I got a text to call them. I was very happy with Noah and his ability. We had an emergency situation. I was unable to get anyone on the same day. Bergsma offered emergency service for that evening. I was so anxious to get the job done that it never occurred to me to ask the cost. 100% my mistake, and I will never in my life do that again! I don't know if Bergsma has exceptionally high pricing or if this was price gouging due to the emergency situation. As it turns out all we needed was a cartridge. When Noah gave me the price I nearly cried. We are retired couple on a fixed income and we're given a quote at $888 to replace a cartridge. They did end up bringing the price down to $725. My husband and I had our own business, he repaired gas fireplaces. Never in all of the time that we had our business did we ever charge such ridiculous prices. I know the cost of running a business. I also know how to treat your customers right. This was a literally less than a 20 minute job with a part that cost less than $30. I was curious and got online to see what the average cost would be for a job like this. On average, it cost between $200 and $400 to replace a shower cartridge. I feel cheated and I could never ever recommend Bergsma. read more

I had them come out to replace a hot water heater. They said the cost would be $850, but it ended up costing over $1,100. The hot water heater did have some code compliant issues, but the up charges seemed on the high end. The water heater wasn't installed level, and I pointed it out to the owner. He didn't seem to care and never addressed it. I then had them come out for a sump pump replacement. They charged $450 to install (30 minutes) a $125 pump. On top of that, they charged a trip charge, diagnostic charge and the replacement of the sump, and adding a 30 foot section of reverse osmosis line cost $850. Around noon the Sunday of Memorial weekend (5.30.21) I called these folks for help when my basement flooded. Roots had grown into my main sewer line backing it up for the first time. Bergsma came and augured my line and charged me $500 - I cried. I was told it would last about a year- it did not. Almost 8 months to the day Sat. 1.29.22, around 1:00 in the afternoon my basement flooded again. This time they charged me $630 to do the same thing - I'm still crying. The cost went up $130 in 8 months. The gentleman who cleared my drain spent less than an hour at my place both afternoons. Based on being told this would last about a year I had planned on paying another company $99 to augur my line in early April, unfortunately I paid Bergsma over 6 times more than that because I made the mistake of trusting them. Feeling rather exploited I called and asked them for help with the cost the following Monday. They refused to refund a cent. They think charging over $500 an hour, and increasing their cost by more than 25% in 8 months is fair. They felt no responsibility for the sewage flooding my basement again 8 months after their first visit when I was told I should be good for about a year. They unapologetically charged me a week's pay for an hours time. read more
