For as much money as this organization spends on marketing (billboards, mailers, etc.), you would think that they would actually want to keep the new customers they attract. Well, apparently that isn't the case - they just cancelled an afternoon appointment on me first thing this morning. Keep in mind that I had this appointment scheduled 2 weeks in advance - nothing crazy, just a water heater inspection + flush, but an opportunity to build a relationship and offer recommendations which leads to additional services. They at least offered to reschedule for a later day in the week -BUT- with little regard for the fact that I took time away from my busy schedule to have a set appointment. Needless to say that I won't be using their services (nor recommending them). Don't get stuck like me, take a day off of work to accommodate, and have them cancel last minute! read more

We were very disappointed in the services provided by GRapids. We replaced our entire furnace and it did not solve the problem we had to begin with. It ended up being a wire issue that they claimed was rare to cause the problem. While we would've needed to replace our furnace within the next few years due to the problems they found, ultimately we wouldn't have spent the thousands of dollars at this point in time. After leaving several voicemails asking to speak to management about their error, I was finally able to get ahold of someone. They acknowledged our frustration but denied the request for some kind of reparation/discount. When a different employee followed up to check in, I expressed our disappointment in not getting a discount. She said she'd see what she could do but I never heard back. We understand mistakes happen, just wish they would've taken responsibility for it. read more

I was recently shopping around to add a AC mini split unit into my upper floor and when I put a request in with Grapids, I got a phone call within the hour to schedule a free estimate home walk-through. The person was able to come that morning and walk me through what the cost would be and alternatives for my request. The person, John, was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. He gave me a couple different options and we walked through what would make the most sense financially and aesthetically while the option that I chose was not the most cost-effective, it made the most sense for my home and what my goal was, and he acknowledged that immediately which I really appreciated. A lot of people usually push the higher price point but he recognize the important pieces of my home and what was important to me and acknowledged why that would be the better option for me but allowed me the opportunity to do to really think about it versus pushing the higher price. He did give me a lower priced option that could work for my home but acknowledged that it might not work the way that I wanted to and could change the functionality of the flow of my home and I didn't necessarily want that. Given that level of honesty, I really appreciated that and didn't mind choosing a higher cost option. He and I worked through with the budget and what the cost would be, and based on their availability, he was able to give me a discount for my flexibility, which was really appreciated. They were able to complete the work within the week and the gentlemen that were in my homework, extremely professional, very prompt, and I am extremely happy with the work. They were able to pull all of the permits and provide me with everything that I need knowing that my home is a bit older and requires a little bit more finesse. Needed my house converted from propane to natural gas. Called and was told an HVAC tech would be by to convert the the furnace and water heater. A PLUMBER arrived to take pictures of water heater and furnace to order conversion kits. After a WEEK going by not hearing back, we call and ask for a manager. The manager (Eric) never got back to us as we dealt with the admin(?) saying Eric was in meetings all day...for two days straight, then left for the day at 3pm. Since then they've been back twice with one for an improper install. Yesterday morning she once again had no heat. They said someone would be there 12-4. Nobody came. She called 7 times but they said there's no way to get ahold of the serviceman except eMail. This morning no call explaining anything and finally a call to them only got that someone would (maybe) be there 12-4 again. I was a service manager for 25 years and this is HORRIBLE service. Unfortunately, that promise was not delivered. They did open a permit with the City of Grand Rapids, which is standard practice, but the installation did not pass inspection. It became evident that their team lacked a solid understanding of city codes, and I was told that the system wouldn't pass without major alterations to my home -- something that was never discussed during the planning or quoting phase. The few minor issues they attempted to fix afterward were done sloppily, lacking the professionalism I expected from a company that presents itself as a premium service provider. In short, I was sold on the idea that Grapids would "do it right," but they failed to meet that expectation. For the higher cost I paid, I anticipated a smooth process and code-compliant work -- not additional headaches and costly complications. This company is an example of a get in your door at a cheap price and try to find something wrong so they can charge you a crap ton of money for a service you may or may not need. I called them to have them service my furnace last winter and the tech that came out showed me "issues" and said I need to replace my furnace and that they suggest doing the hvac as well because of course they do $$$. Anyway I called a local licensed professional who came out the day after and not only properly serviced my furnace but also explained what to look out for and informed me that I had a solid 8 to 10 years left on it. read more

Recently noticed a puddle of water on the basement floor next to the Furnace/Water Heater.. Called GRapids Heating and they came over the next day to inspect the Furnace. To our shock, the system was 31 years old (new home owners) and it wasn't worth 'fixing' it at this age (our decision). Our GRapids Service guy gave us estimates on a new Furnace & AC unit, explained the warranty, the installation process and what to expect. Gave us all the details, answered all my questions (I ask a lot of them) and was very easy to talk too. After we decided to move forward, the install was after the weekend, took about 7 hours but we had an electrical issue they took care of as well. The install was done efficiently, smooth removal of the old system and once done, the installer walked us through everything. With the install, the City had to come inspect and approve the work. The 2 City Inspectors were impressed with the work done and also said very nice things about the company as they approved the installation! I called because I needed someone to check my central air because it quit working last fall. Tanner the technician came out asked me how old it was, I told him about 15 years old. He looked it over ran some tests on the compressor and the start coil. He told me the compressor was shot and the start coil tested bad. he quoted me 2200$ to change the compressor and 213$ a pound for R22. He also setup a meeting for a salemen to come out to the house to measure and size a new unit. I searched YouTube and watched a few videos on testing the compressor with a multimeter and my tests found that it passed. so looked up the cost for the replacement starter coil it was about 13$ from Grainger. I replaced the starter coil and It is working great! Beware of companies that want to sell you a complete system just because your ac system is aged. I would like my 97$ service charge refunded! read more

What an amazing experience we've had with Grapids! From start to finish the process was wonderful. Todd came out within hours of calling to get a quote to upgrade our furnace and add AC to our home. Our furnace was over 20 years old functioning but a bit of a head scratcher. Additionally we needed to upgrade our electrical panel. Grapids was able to subcontract that for us too. Tyler and Eric came out the very next day (bright and early) and spent the day reconstruction our HVAC system. Prior to their arrival we decided to add a humidifier to the unit. The office was seemlessly able to add that to our work order. Todd swang back out to check in on the progress and make sure we were happy. Throughout the day several members of Grapid came through to bring supplies and check in. The stars of the show were definitely Tyler and Eric who worked until after 7pm to complete the HVAC job. They worked well together and I could overhear them as I graded papers upstairs. They treated each other with respect and humor. It was so refreshing to have work done in our home by such wonderful people. They even took the time to FaceTime with my husband who was at work to show the final product and answer all of his questions. Without hesitation I will recommend Grapids (specifically Todd, Tyler and Eric) to anyone! Would not recommend. They say they will call and reach out and they do not. They do not share information about their products until after install, it was a terrible experience from beginning to end. After all was said and done they charged me over a 500% markup on a hot water heater purchased from Lowes and then added labor on top of it with no added value. This company is a scam. Came out due to a sewer back up and offered "the best fix" promising a liner that is guaranteed for 50 years with limited damage to my yard. Just a small hole that they will leave as they found it and it might need a little seed. The price was huge but they convinced us it was the best option. Crew showed up on time and quickly let me know the job I was quoted would be impossible without cutting into my basement floor and moving the stairs. They offered to replace the pipe which would be quicker and easier. I did agree. They tore up my entire yard but did the job very quickly. Left by lunch telling me they had another job and left my yard a complete mess. Told me the job was a flat fee and still the same price despite not installing the $7000 liner and labor taking half the time. Re wrote the quote up charging all the items to match the price they wanted and forged my signature . City inspector says it's still not fixed and they did a terrible job so now city contractors are coming out to fix the mess they made. What did they do to make up for their mess? Their strategy is to get to you first, scare you with absurdly high prices, and then say, "we've got a gap in our schedule tomorrow, if you can help us fill in this slot, we can help you out with a big discount" That big discount will get you to a price that is still 5k higher than the next guys starting bid, but you won't ever get to see that guys bid because you've already got your problem solved, so you stop looking. Let me tell you a story about Grapids Heating & Cooling. Seen them at the Home & Garden Show and I got a 90% off coupon for a furnace inspection. Ok cool we just moved on our house let's try it out. They came out and inspected our furnace no problem. Told us it was manufactured in 2002 and it's now 2020 so yeah 18 years old. Paul(technician) said it could last for longer but furnaces only last around 17 years so we might need a new one soon. The furnace could last or it could go out tomorrow, you never know is what the he said. By the time you put a lot of money to keep it alive you could of just bought a new furnace. So wife asked him how much would a new one cost. Paul replied that it's not my department and he scheduled a guy to come out and tell us about new furnace a couple days later. So guy came he showed is soa mvideos and told us about air purification and some germ killing light as well as humidity adding feature to furnace. I don't know. We went to basement he seen furnance and mentioned it was way too big for our home. He took some measurements and he headed back upstairs. As we walked upstairs I heard him say "Hopefully I can get you something under $20,000." I was like hold on that's a lot for a furnace, I didn't think they were nearly that much. He said no but you wanted to add the central air and all the other things. I was ohh ok forgot about that. Well he gives us a quote for $15,000. I was like wow that still a lot. He "pulled some strings" got to to around $12,000. I said that still quote a bit as I am doing my budget for ally expenses on my calculator. He gets it down again after calling his "boss" and gets it around $100 a month. But it was for 20 years at some interest rate that I forgot but I have interest program on my graphing calculator and I'd be paying $16,000 for it all. I knew I couldn't afford this so I told wife let's do it we can handle it. Got denied and his attitude changed. He asked if I have him right information. Wife seen his computer and the look on his face. He thought he had us but thank God we got denied. I did my math right and knew my debt to income was bad with this deal. Anyways his demeanor changed and he left. My wife and I celebrated. Well in less than a week after that, ourfurnace went out. We don't have money for a new one so wife asked around and a family member said they could help me out since they know a little. Well long story I opened it up looked at it and seen two wires going in goingato a rubber cover but only one on other side. I reconnected the wire and put everything back and what do you know the furnace started working fine. Kinda weird we had no issue with our furnace and after they " inspect" it, a wire gets loose somehow. So we looked up reviews of them and we weren't only people "duped". Again, they did not send us the quote on paper but rather had someone else run those numbers for me over the phone. My house is only 2600sqft. So I called 2 other places and both places quoted me about 4K to replace the AC central unit. I'd stay away from this business unless you want to pay more than double. read more

He was not pushy whatsoever on sales (because what a nightmare to have a pushy salesman in a stressful financial situation). This company is a joke. We had them come to do a yearly checkup on our furnace. We were not/nor have we had any issues, just wanted their "tune up" they proceeded to fill out a very long report on everything that was wrong with our furnace. Next day their sakes girl comes, gives us her pitch and when we said we want another opinion, she became VERY pushy. I bought their Groupon furnace & ac TUNE UP, which states verbatim: "Technicians survey the home's heating and air-conditioning systems, CLEANING and inspecting ALL COMPONENTS for safety and efficiency". B4 making the appointment, I confirmed with office that this tune up DOES include complete cleaning including Evaporator Coil which I pointed out was the whole reason I bought the Tune Up. She assured me full cleaning (including evaporator)was included. Tech (Tanner) cleaned not 1 single component. Even tried telling me the cleaning only includes 1. A cosmetic wipe down of the OUTSIDE of furnace housing, which anyone could do themselves for free in 60 seconds if it wasn't an absurdly pointless thing to do. 2. a spray down cleaning of AC Condenser outside....and he did neither! The best part was when Tanner showed me a [phony] pic of inside my water heater. My well needs to be redrilled and is so full of iron & manganese right now, that if u submerge hand in 8" of water. U can't see even a shape of it. Tanner shows me pics of a badly corroded bottom of a water heater (which is well over 50" deep) crystal clear water with no hint of red, and b4 I could say anything he goes on to assure me its a real pic saying "See, look at the time stamp of pic." Nothing was cleaned or tuned, it was the basic, foot in the door, inspection most companies do free in hopes of upselling additional repairs or brand new unit, and their advertised price of this so called "Tune Up" is $268! On that note, he listed over $1,500 worth of furnace parts he claimed were bad and tried to convince me to completely replace, or let them repair, my 95% efficient furnace that already works great. RUUUUUUUUN from these lying crooks cause if they'll try this on a fairly rough looking Construction Contractor, I can imagine how badly they rip off much easier marks... read more

On 6-23-20, this business was contacted for a service call to check out an ac unit. After "thorough" inspection, they determined the problem and quoted upwards of 5 thousand dollars to "fix" problems with the ac. On 7-20-20, I had a small, reputable company evaluate and fix the problem for less than a tenth of what these money hungry misers quoted. Paraphrasing Warren Buffett: "Honesty is a very expensive gift. Don't expect it from cheap people." Apparently, GRapids Heating is cheap, greedy, and doesn't know their butthole from a hole in the ground! Keep away from these guys at all costs! read more

My heat went out in New Year's Eve. My father and I did everything we could possibly do to fix it on our own with no luck. After calling Grapids, within 2 hours they had a tech to our house. The fee was only $49 to get a diagnosis. Rich was professional, personable and very knowledgeable. He gave us temporary heat until the parts he needed came in, within 3 days we were back to normal. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 simply because 1. The company tries to up-sell you on everything under the sun. I could tell the tech felt mildly uncomfortable doing it, but it was clearly required and 2. The repair cost an outrageous amount. While no heating/cooling repair is cheap, I find $800 for a part that cost $225 retail and took a whole hour to put in pretty high. After having a technician out, he would not even give me a quote unless I had a 2nd meeting with the Sales Manager, and he tried to tell me I needed to upgrade my 9-year-old furnace, etc. Nice try! The sales manager called me and went round and round with me about why he personally needed to come to my home to look at my A/C condenser in person to get measurements... when his tech was already there for 2 hours doing that! We replaced our furnace, water heater and air conditioner within a 3 year period. The ac was the last straw for us continuing our business with this company. They quoted us a ridiculous price for a new ac unit, when we said we would pass, they came down $2000. We went ahead and bought the new ac, but a few weeks later found out that even though they deducted $2000, they were still $1000's over other reputable local companies. My mom wanted quotes for a new air conditioner so she had Shafsma over for an estimate. She also called Grapids. The next thing I knew we were getting a new furnace and air conditioner. I am not impressed with the new furnace at all, but was willing to live with it. I did have a question about humidifiers attached to the furnace, so I called and spoke to the receptionist. I told her we had just purchased a furnace and air conditioner from them and I wanted to ask about why my mom was told we couldn't add a humidifier to the new furnace. I was very specific about calling me, not my 89 year old mother and gave my cell phone number. I have not heard a word. It's been three weeks. I'm actually relieved now that Grapids hasn't called back because I want Shafsma or Jacobson's to take a look at the new furnace. A warning flag to me is the vague website that doesn't really say anything about the brands of furnaces they carry. read more
