Been coming here for years now. My favorite go to Mexican sit diwn breakfast. They have everything from chilaquiles, to huevos rancheros, to camarones à la Diabla. Will always recommend this place to everyone I know. Staff is always so friendly, and you know what I actually love that they don't play any music inside. It's nice when the hustle and bustle of the city gets too loud and over stimulating. Their turkey bacon is the best I've ever had and their ice coffee comes with actual coffee ice cubes !! :0 Will and always come back. read more

Well, here I am back six months later! I had the cravings for CJ's chicken sausage and grits! When I tell you has gotten worse OMG! First let me begin with the size of the pitiful little patties they give you. The size just a little bit bigger than a quarter,I kid you not! Two eggs,2pc toast bowl grits, and these 3 quarters size patties! $18. and some crazy odd cents why? I don't know, since they ard trying to ban pennies! By the way don't know what they did to the recipe, but it taste like it has apple cider vinegar in it to me! Just awful I tell you. I will eventually go back, but definitely won't order that. CJ's ruined that great chicken sausage they had,thd presentation on the plate is even terrible, years ago you were giving two thick pieces that looked like big steak burgers patties! If I sound like I'm ranting,it's because I am! My friend had pork chops, one had bacon, and they said it was good. The grits were good though, and my eggs were over medium and had a great presentation. For me presentation is a big deal when it comes to my food! As I've stated before,I've been in the restaurant business as a GM,and I know food! CJ's do better! read more

Solid Mexican based breakfast and lunch spot. I only had chicken patties and it felt like they ground the Hi ken themselves. Sourdough toast and coffee. So I'm probably not the best person to share my experience. However, the door was rotating constantly, so it felt like a neighborhood staple. I docked it one star because you aren't going for the atmosphere. read more

We always come here when we think about having breakfast. There are so many options on the menu to choose from. The staff are always so welcoming and they are always smiling. We always sit at the booths along the wall on the right side. The table and seats are always clean. The tables have so many condiments readily available for us to choose from, hot sauces: Cholula, Red Rooster, Tabasco, Tapatio creamer: hazelnut, french vanilla, half & half Smuckers jams: grape, strawberry, mixed berries salt and pepper, ketchup and A1 steak sauce We always order the same exact thing, every time we come. 1) 3 chicken wings BEST CHICKEN WINGS I'VE EVER HAD! Deep fried to perfection, golden and cripsy outside, fully cooked moist chicken inside. with soft scrambled eggs, waffle (slightly crispy outside and soft fluffy inside) and coffee. 2) 3 chicken wings (I just can't say enough about these amazing wings (my mouth is watering just thinking about this) with eggs over hard, waffle and decaffeinated coffee, 3) bowl of grits with crumbled bacon and shredded cheese with butter. It's so comforting and just hits the spot! Don't judge me. The gentleman who checks us out is always super nice and always asks how everything was. He's such a sweet man. Super satisfied with to-go boxes, our belly are full and we are super happy. read more

We arrived at the perfect time for late breakfast/early lunch at CJ's. It was on 1-10-26 around 12pm and we were seated right away in a booth with no waiting. I ordered the polish sausage and egg breakfast which is always good along with the largest iced tea you will find. Our server was Monica and she is always nice, professional and great service to us. Everyone is there having a great meal and enjoying the food along with company. The staff is always great. read more

Me and my wife ordered breakfast from this restaurant. My wife ordered the food through DoorDash app. I ordered the chicken sausage plate with eggs, potatoes and toast. When we entered the restaurant we were greeted by staff. Staff were friendly and polite. We picked up the food when the food was ready. The chicken sausage was delicious and seasoned well. The eggs were cooked well but the potatoes needed a little more seasoning. The meal was filling and very reasonable. The ambiance is customer service friendly and the menu has some great choices. read more

Just the best. Great breakfasts. Lunches too. Service is quick and efficient. YAY CJ's.

Presentation means a lot to me because I am going to eat that food. Even if it's good the main thing is presentation. No scrappings from the grill (burnt) . Your food is good reasonable price for the neighbor hood. But work on the presentation it means a lot! read more

The food is great and consistent and service is great but the servers except a couple do tend to not be so welcoming and I have seen people being chastised and many times ignored intentionally including myself . Managers are super great but I think they don't see what is out there happening and my feelings are not hurt but I enjoy my visits less . read more

Came here after a funeral service and there was about 10-12 of us on a Sat approx 1-2pm. They were able to accommodate us, which was nice. There's a huge menu that includes Southern and Mexican dishes also Smoothies & Juices. Everyone pretty much ordered something different and all enjoyed their food. My husband got the Chilaquiles and I ordered the Catfish breakfast. The catfish was a bit thin and I've had better; but it was doable! The servers were really nice and handled our group just fine. The restaurant is in a strip mall and parking is kinda tight; but there is parking in the back. It's a cool diner feel that's larger! Yelp gives a 3, if there were half stars, I'd give a 3 1/2. If I'm in the area again, I'd return!! read more

Came in today on a Saturday rainy morning. Why is it in LA that everyone comes out when it rains? LOL In any case, I went with my tried and true. No pics in this review as my dying cell failed me once again-but I did manage to get a shot of the receipt. Service, this time around (the whole crew chipped in as opposed to anyone individual) was spot on as usual. And as the receipt will reflect, you can't beat catfish, egg scrambled well, and tomatoes for what I paid in 2025 in Los Angeles California. Previous pictures in previous reviews pretty much reflect what I ordered. If you value consistency both in terms of level of service as well as quality food, they have it going on here! read more

Restaurant for the community! There is a great vibe with a little bit of everyone from around town. Whenever we visit the area from NorCal we make sure to have breakfast at CJ's Cafe on LaBrea. You won't leave feeling hungry. The fresh squeezed juices are the best! The staff & servers are friendly, helpful & attentive. I've tried so many dishes over the years, omelettes, fried chicken wings, salmon, pancakes, French toast...all delicious. read more

Y'all know I love CJs. I had the 2 eggs add cheese with sausages, potatoes and toast. Everything was flavorful as usual, hot and fresh. Service is always quick and staff are friendly. The restaurant gets busy for peak hours on weekdays and busy during most weekends. It's a cafe similar to others so ambiance is fine for meet up with friends, quick brunch date or work meeting. Can't wait to come back read more

Great restaurant, we have been going here for over a decade now and the staff feel like family. Excellent food, great atmosphere

Variation of food such as Mexican food, soul food and sandwiches with the atmosphere always packed.

This location has been here for some years now and has been very consistent with pricing and quality of food and service . They have a wonderful juice bar that's be always fully stocked! I thought the atmosphere of this restaurant was very nice. There was a moderate level of noise with a lot of friendly chatter. I had five people in my party and the waitresses pushed together two tables for all of us. I got the Greek omelette with grits and toast. To be completely fair on my part, I think it tasted exactly how it should, I simply made a poor menu choice. The overall dish just didn't have much flavor, in my opinion. read more

I have now found another favorite diner-style food place in LA! I love the non-descript style inside and out. It's a simple place with simply fantastic-tasting home-style food. I had the catfish dinner with collard greens and black-eyed peas as my side dishes. The fried catfish was light like it was air-fried or something. It sure was good! Collard greens and black-eyed peas were the best I've had. Nice smoky flavor with just the right amount of bacon flavor. Oh, man. I'm getting hungry again just writing this review. My friend had fried chicken wings with a waffle. The chicken was not greasy at all. These guys know how to fry stuff right. That's for sure! Their extensive menu mainly consists of breakfast items, soul food, and Mexican food. They also have a really nice selection of fresh juice drinks they make right there! Can't get any fresher than that! The staff is great. Super nice. Parking is plentiful and free. I'll be back again...and again!! read more

3.5 stars is just about right. CJ's has a large menu with enough variety to satisfy everyone, from Mexican to American, to soul food and this is borne out by the diverse crowd of patrons. They also have quite a few juices on the menu if you're into that sort of thing. Breakfast is always a sure bet and the few times I've had their menudo it's been just fine, but charging an extra two bucks to add hominy is *not* cool. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous, and the service is always friendly and attentive. Good, if not exceptional, neighborhood joint. read more

I hadn't been here in a while but remembered that I enjoyed my past meal visits. The staff were pleasant and attentive, the place was clean and the other patrons seemed very chilled and satisfied. Parking is pretty easy around CJs. I tried the Watermelon, Strawberry and Mint Juice.... So good and so fresh! I ordered the Pico Burger which I thought was great. The burger patty was "smashed" and well done which was very tasty and how I like it. The Onion Rings were perfectly fried. My wife had a tuna sandwich and had no complaints. I tried some her fries which were fat and juicy in the middle. Prices and portions are good. I'll definitely drop by when I'm back in the area. read more

Chicken was tasty, but the grits, the staple of any good soul food restaurant was grainy and not creamy at all. Asked the waitress if they had any that was cooked better and she was only able to offer me fruit, or somthing different. Last time I'll be here on labrea and Obama.
