Very Poor quality Products. Purchased a 30 Gallon Water Heater New on 12/10/25. Unit was installed out of the box on March 13th 2026 and did not work. Called store to get a replacement unit after sending them pictures showing the Water Heater had rust inside the unit despite being New. Management refused to replace it Also did a very large purchase order for bathroom vanity units which were damaged and in very bad condition due to broken sinc and misaligned particle board cabinets. Still awaiting replacement. Buy from Lowes or Home Depot!! much better service and quality products.

Hi Carol Ai, I see that you have responded to some posts and hoping you will consider my experience and make some changes. As I type this I am on hold, 23 minutes and counting it is 1:11pm on 10/24/25. I know that the return policy has been changed to require a receipt, no matter how long ago the purchase was, even same day... I wish that you would reconsider this policy as it unnecessarily punishes the good faith customers due some activity of bad actor customers. I know the big box guys will ban some customers for excessive returns, or perhaps you can set a maximum value limit for a return without a receipt. I checked on line and the return policy specifically states "OUR RETURN POLICY (ONLINE & IN STORE) We will cheerfully exchange or refund your purchase (product and a photo ID needed) within 90 days of purchase." As of today I have a can of bondo and a plumbing valve purchased in September 2025 that they will not let me return, even for store credit and even though they still have the city mill skews. I also have my credit card statement showing the purchase, I just want store credit as I know I will be back. Its now 1:17 pm, still nobody picking up. approaching 30 min. on hold. Also, as a bonus request, the parking lot at kaimuki really needs to be repaired and the cat doo doo in the dirt planters is really gross. Please take some pride in this awesome local company that has an incredible history and improve the Kaimuki site, even temporarily if needed as you plan for a larger project. They just hung up...

I was meeting my co-workers for dinner around the corner. I was early and decided to come here to see if there was anything I needed. I'm not a housewares type of person. You can usually find me at Ala Moana. That's more my speed. It was interesting to see what they sold. You can find whatever you need for your house at this place. They sell things for your house, yard and car. If you want to repaint your house they have that too. I was mostly standing by the fans and AC. It was so hot outside that it was cooling me down. They also sell snacks and drinks by the checkout. They actually sell soda and bottled water by the case. It struck me as kind of strange, but what do I know. I don't come to these types of stores very often.

Local kine Home Depot/Lowe's in Honolulu, Hawaii... My non-Yelp friend doesn't go to Kalihi often. I decided to give her a tour of the "Original" City Mill. She was immediately impressed by the free parking lot, which isn't busy-crazy-crowded like the Kaimuki location. I personally like the Kaneohe location, but that's another story... Note: There are also locations in Waianae, Hawaii Kai, and Ewa Beach! We walked through the power tools, paint, automotive, home organization, lighting, household cleaning aids, and furniture departments, then went outside to check out the gravel, fertilizer, lumber, and live plants. My friend ended up getting a paint brush (which she will use as a duster around edges in the house), and she got a tile with two compartments for her green onions (which need tall sides to block the wind). LOL! I'm glad that she found useful items and was happy!

This location is at the corner of Nimitz Highway and Pacific Street. I find this home improvement center to be convenient and much easier to navigate than the two big box stores nearby. I needed to get a toilet plunger. Went directly to the plumbing section, and there they were. Made my selection and went to the checkout. Pleasant greeting and fast service. Enjoy

I went to City Mill to get some screens remade, I even had the old ones to give to them to use as a pattern. That was July 19, and for 4 screens it cost me $215. I called them on August 9 since I had NOT heard anything from them. The screen guy told me he had the metal cut, but it wasn't put together or screened yet. I asked when he would be able to finish it as he had it for 3 weeks already and he said he would get to it tomorrow. I called about 1 PM the next day, and again the guy said he had NOT gotten to it yet. I called the supervisor to get him to get it done and SURPRISE I got a call at 5 PM with a message that the screens were done. I went in the next morning, 8/11, and picked them up and they looked real good, very nice. I took them home and installed the springs to hold them in and tried to install the screens. One fit VERY tightly and didn't need the spring clips to hold the screen in, and the other three were too tall and did NOT FIT. I call the Store Manager about how dissatisfied I was with the terrible service and the huge mess up on the fit. I asked what they were going to do, well she, Ms. Nelson the Store Manager, told me to bring them back in, and they would correct them but no idea when they would be fixed, and I would need to bring them in and I would get no consideration for the long length of time it took them to make them, then to make them wrong, then my time and effort to go down and get them ordered, pay in advance and all the aggravation. Ms Nelson said it is first come first served as to WHEN they get to the screens, and no discount or consideration for the aggravation and time their company caused me to waste using their services. If you have a option, it seems not even a great option to City Mill, THEN USE IT. City Mill is EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL and have a terrible customer service and don't make up for their mistakes, they expect the customer to go out of their way for them to correct their mistakes. The store does have delivery and one of their employees could have come down to pick up their mistakes and see the bad fit and figure out how much was needed to take off to fix, or do new measurements to make a correct set of screens. But no, Ms. Nelson expects me to bring the screens in and do all of the work and she expects to take NONE OF THE LIABILITY OF TERRIBLE SERVICE AND POOR AND UNPROFESSIONAL MANUFACTURING OF THEIR SCREENS. I WILL NEVER DO ANY BUSINESS WITH CITY MILL AGAIN DUE TO THIS UNPROFESSIONAL WAY THEY TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. YOU SHOULD NOT SHOP THERE EITHER. GO TO HOME DEPOT OR LOWE'S, BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PROFESSIONAL QUALITY SERVICES. Just added the photos to show how the terrible work they do at City Mill. While the screens look very nice, 3 out of the 4 that took 3 and 1/2 weeks to do are too long and don't fit. And Ms. Nelson, the manager, said that I can bring them down to fix but she can't guarantee when they would be done and no discount for the shoddy work and waste of my time. And it was all PREPAID 3 1/2 weeks ago.

Ahhh the local place for just about everything is our City Mill! Hardware, furniture, storage, plants, paint, all things needed during the horrible pandemic and yes even snacks City Mill has been my savior in so many ways. This particular Iwilei location is the closest for me if I'm going after work which I needed to do after my work cart that I use for just about eeeeeverything wheel fell off "AHHHHHUG!!" Mind you I bought this cart here as well lol! Everything went everywhere and was in no mood to get on my hands and knees to recover washers and what not to put it all back together....sigh!! Everything here is labeled and so easy to find it was a matter or searching which was the closest one I needed...after two washers and a wrench I did a quick surgery in the parking lot to beside I got everything I needed it was just a matter of minutes and all is finally good...hoooray!!! City Mill our favorite local everything place does stay competitive with the big guys as their website https://citymill.com you can search for anything you're looking for and will list availability and quantity at each location and the prices here are always the best. I was blown that they had items the other guys didn't!! Mahalo City Mill for 120+ years here!

Location Nimitz there is plenty of parking

Thank you Steven and Curtis . Normally I always go in with my husband. This day while he was out of town I went in to pick up a lockbox for a key. Steven was very kind and efficient. The next day I returned as I didn't understand the box . The 2 men made me feel so comfortable and helped with out hesitation. Thank you great customer service and this is now going to be our local hardware store. Now I understand why they have been in business for all these years. Thank you again. City mill you have a lifetime customer with this gal. Great job guys!

I'm not shopping here anymore. Lowe's and Home Depot are right around the corner and they have enough staff walking around the store to prevent theft so they don't need to harass customers about their bags. Why the bag policy is stupid and terrible idea for business customer service: 1. If someone wants to steal, they can just put things in their pockets, or just simply walk out with stuff, you can't stop them. 2. It's discriminatory. If I was a woman carrying a purse you wouldn't make me leave my purse. But I'm a guy with a backpack and so you think you can just profile me as a potential thief? It's offensive to someone who consistently spends thousands of dollars in your store. 3. It's inconsistently enforced. More than half the time I walk in the staff at the registers don't even notice me walking in with my backpack, leading me to assume it's not enforced. And if I knew it was enforced, I'd have to wait for the staff to get their attention to give them my bag. Time is money and that's a waste of my time and therefore money. 4. I have important valuable stuff in my bag that I need in the store, like my cellphone and wallet, notes on a project and maybe a piece of gear that I need to measure against something I need to buy. I'm carrying a backpack because it won't all fit in my pockets, so this is seriously inconvenient. 5. If you don't trust me, why should I trust you? Shopping involves mutual trust. I have to trust that the stuff you're selling is worth my money and now you want me to leave my bag with you? Store staff steal things too! Or another customer can take it, does City Mill really want to assume that liability? I might have my expensive laptop in my backpack, if your staff drops it and it breaks, I'll definitely sue you if anything happens to my backpack. City Mill won't take responsibility for valuables left in a car in their parking lot so they're putting customers in this bad situation. The inconsistent enforcement and liability issue with leaving my bag at the register creates unnecessary and uncomfortable friction between customers and staff and just illustrates City Mill's ineffective customer service strategy and philosophy. To top it off, when they do happen to notice you walking in with your bag and decide they want to enforce the policy that day, the staff act like they think they're the police and treat you like a shoplifter already. No thanks! I'm not in middle school anymore, I'll take my business elsewhere. Aloha!

On-the-go place to grab things we need to improve the tiki nest. This might be an old store in the island but still I find it helpful and convenient. Not all the time though as they have smaller selection of products. Service is fair enough. We've crossed good employee and sometimes, not-in-the-mood ones. That makes life fair enough so as this store. Every time we returned our purchased in here so far we didn't encounter problems. They assisted us promptly. And if we raised questions by far they were helpful. Prices is I think fair enough. Depending on what you need. I think what other customers like in here is the ample parking space for them. Just like us, we don't have any problem for parking every time we did a quick visit. This store amazes me the 1st time though. Serving over a 100 years among patriots? That's not a simple joke! It takes hardship, loyalty & dedication to serve people. This business is pretty doing great! Way to go! This is still one of my fave place to shop for improving things at home. Mahalo & HAPPY JUANDERING fellow yelpers! www.juanderbandit.world

Today it was a simple just some acetone as I wanted to wipe off paint and the basic store bought stuff just won't do it and as small as this shop seems to be they do have it all and was very easy to find than the larger ones as it literally took me a minute to find it and a minute to reach to the register without a wait and was on my way faster than taking the needed pics to show off this great Kailua location. If needed staff is very easy to find here but as I knew exactly what I wanted it was okay and parking in the back is spacious with short walks to the automatic doors is just nice to have a quick spot to find exactly what you need without being lost as I finished my project so easily. Shout out to Kayli for all her help last night…read more So the other day I was cooking dinner for my dad & when I went into his refrigerator, I noticed it didn't seem that cold? But when I checked the freezer, it appeared that it was working properly. I asked my dad if the fridge was okay? And he in turned told me that it was, so I really didn't think anything more of it. Several days later, after shopping for some food for my dad, when I was putting some produce items into his fridge, I again asked him if the refrigerator was okay, then he finally told me "maybe something was wrong". I rechecked the settings on the refrigerator, rechecked the vents from the freezer, seals on the door, and everything appeared to be okay. Being that my dad's refrigerator was 11 years old (I remembered buying it in 2014), I guess it was time for a replacement. Luckily for me, November has rolled around and since a lot of folks will be feasting towards the end of November, "Black Friday" sales have started & Home Depot has their big "Black Friday" sales event for the entire month of November. At first I went to Best Buy, because I purchased the refrigerator & stove from there back in 2014, but upon arriving there, I couldn't get any help so I left the store & headed across the street to Home Depot. Upon lookin' at the fridges, I found a fridge that would fit in my dad's kitchen space & looked for a clerk to help me. Luckily I came across Kayli, and she was so helpful in processing my transaction. Timing was just right for me, as the delivery of the refrigerator was FREE due to the Black Friday sales, and I only had to pay $50 bucks for the removal of the old refrigerator. The refrigerator I purchased was in stock, so Saturday they will deliver it to our house. How's that for great service???!!! Much MAHALO Home Depot, and Kayli! You really helped us out of jam, as I realky needed a running refrigerator, especially since Thanksgiving is just around the corner!

It currently sells furniture, lumber, building materials, key making, propane refill, paint, jalousie cutting, electrical, tools, plumbing, window screen service, and more. How did it get its name? Prior to WWII, Chung Kun Ai owned the only rice mill in HNL and the largest in HI; hence, the name City Mill. After the war, City Mill focused mainly construction materials, but kept its name. While it cannot compare with the size of the big box retailer hardware stores and may be a little more in cost, we shop at city Mill due to the following reasons: * Local expertise and service. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable with the local unique needs and can offer advice and guidance on projects that must meet local building codes. While there were periods of staff shortages during and after Covid, we've found staff in their red aprons to be very helpful. For specialized projects and making of keys, hubby tends to ask older employees or seasoned workers, as they seem to know more and appear to focus on details. And when I was browsing through the aisles, several red-apron dressed staffed asked if I needed any help. Nice! * Community focus. City Mill partners with local community organizations and provides donations based on request. Via the Chung Kun Ai Foundation City Mill has given back to University of HI agricultural programs, Palama Settlement, Food Bank, churches, scholarships, and more. * Convenient locations. With 8 stores across Oahu, City Mill offers convenient access for residents and saves time and gas to having to commute to the big box retailers. * Curated selection. While City Mill's inventory is not as diverse and expansive as the big box retailers, its product selection is carefully chosen to meet the needs of homeowners. If you're undecided on what you're looking for, it's a good starting place to see what is available. They even have educational toys and inflatable pools (seasonal). City Mill also carries some of the home storage containers and kitchenware that new venture that the Ai Family started called Simply Organized in Kahala Mall. The layout of the store is well organized. * In-store pick up and delivery. Online ordering with in-store pickup and delivery make it easier to get its product. They also use the latest technology to track their inventory. * Community events. City Mill's Facebook page features events and promotions that highlight their products and connect with the local community. There are garden expos for demos and meet vendors, Father's Day Keiki workshop, anniversary specials, how-to workshops, product expos, hurricane preparedness, and more. * Energy efficiency focus. City Mill has partners with HI Energy to promote energy-saving products and rebates, such as water-saving tips. Hours of operation are daily from 7a to 7p. Located in the ewa end of HI Kai Towne Center anchored by Costco, Ross Dress for Less, and McDonalds, lots of free parking available that are shared by its tenants. As City Mill is by itself, parking is always available, esp when you have to purchase bulky items. You can use a separate exit when purchasing garden supplies or lumber. It is assuring to have a City Mill a couple of miles from my home! No need to spend unnecessary time and gas to drive to town to a big box retailer! And with helpful customer service, City Mill provides us with our home improvement needs. Support local!
