Really enjoyable dinner. Really hidden in between Beaufort and Atlantic City, it's surrounded by parked (literally giant parking lot) boats and sits right on the water. The food was great and fresh. I venture to try oysters at times and their oyster app was good. I opted for the burger and it was quite perfect. Patty cooked and seasoned well, came with the perfect bun and nice tasting bacon. Perfect place for a date night or just something away from the two cities. Would recommend. read more

City Kitchen gets 2 stars for offering a different view of Beaufort and for an intriguing menu. We had another amazing meal at City Kitchen this past weekend. The grouper special was perfectly prepared. One friend ordered the bone-in pork chop, and we couldn't decide which was better, the grouper or pork chop. They also offer a delicious beet salad- so large that the 4 of us shared it. An amazing dinner at City Kitchen rounded out an impromptu beach mini-getaway to Pine Knoll Shores. We had never been here but after some research on reviews and a glance at the menu, we made a reservation. The restaurant is a lovely establishment on the second floor of a Marina, with classic decor, a cool bar, and overall good vibe. The experience, from our attentive and knowledgeable server, to cocktails, entrees, and dessert, was nothing short of stellar. Wonderful balanced flavors and textures on the entrees. This chef knows their craft. Even the bread and dipping oil was tasty. City Kitchen will join our list of best restaurants on the Crystal Coast, and we look forward to returning. read more

City Kitchen was great, the drinks and food were quite tasty. I ordered the Chef's Special cut of steak and got it medium doneness. The ends were cooked perfectly, but the middle was pretty rare. Both desserts were amazing (a date & cream bowl and a blueberry/lemon cheesecake). Overall, I would definitely recommend this place and will be coming again. read more

A few things to consider for this restaurant. The front of the house is very important . I called to make a reservation 5/14 and was told 715pm outside and spoke to a very nice accommodating woman on the phone . When we arrived, the hostess was very nonchalant and disregarded my reservation request . Told me 30 minutes if we wanted it outside. I was with two full-time residents of Beaufort who come all the time . We were excited to share sunset on porch with good food and were disappointed by both , especially the service and lack of care provided by the hostess/ manager . After ordering a very simple dish of hamburger steak, which he orders often - was inedible . You could not cut it with a steak knife. It obviously was not the correct ground for that meat . When we told the hostess/ manager of the problem, "she said well it is grass fed top of the line beef , so not sure why ?? if you want me to replace it, you better hurry up because the kitchen is getting ready to close ." Our waiter was very kind and apologetic, but of course had no cards to hold in this case. For such epic scenery and the start of busy season, staff and food are the only thing that matter , so we hope your season gets better because we will not be back until there are some staff upgrades . For customers -in any situation - should be treated with the upmost respect by offering to take the poorly executed item off of the bill -or -offering a future meal - all it takes when there's a mistake made in the kitchen is simple kindness. read more

City kitchen is absolutely amazing. Not only do they have one of the best views in the area but everything is made from local ingredients and whatever's in season. The tenderloin is what I had and it was cooked to perfection with potatoes and crispy onion pieces along with pesto and a steak sauce. It was easily as 10/10. What a delightful location with fantastic views if you choose to eat outside. But even if you elect to eat inside the decor is very pleasing and well appointed. We ate outside with a wonderful view of the harbor and marina area. Our waiter was attentive and great at describing each dish we had questions about and you could sense he loved working for this restaurant which made the ambiance even better. We chose the little gem salad and the grouper and of course ended with dessert. Each dish was scrumptious and the presentation was perfect. The grouper was moist and seasoned perfectly, served over jasmine rice and a fresh corn (local) relish. Yummy! We had the blueberry cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding and we enjoyed both. My wife and I were fortunate to land a table for two without reservations on Thursday a bit before 6 PM. In a well lit seaside location, white table cloths and a courteous staff I felt ready to relax and indulge so I kicked things off with a Barrel-Aged Kentucky Corpse Reviver cocktail! Our waitress was so professional having memorized the details of all the specials and desserts. We were in excellent hands! My beet salad was the best I've ever had with a large row of yellow beets and another of red, sprinkled with goat cheese and candied pecans. My main course was the local favorite Shrimp and Grits. This was beautifully prepared and delicious. We enjoyed the atmosphere and our meal so much that we had delicious desserts, which is rare for us. Tucked into an area with lots of boat docks and on the second floor, we weren't sure what to expect. What we experienced far exceeded those expectations! Service was excellent with a warm greeting from Dylan the host, and even friendlier service by our server Josie and several others who helped everyone with food orders and beverages. Speaking of bevs, Josie was very patient as we asked for more info on the wine menu, which she followed up with samples. The House Cava was not as dry as we liked, so we settled on some glasses of the excellent House Assyrtiko to start. The remainder of the Wine Menu was excellent, with many good to great wines in a range of prices. We ended up getting a bottle of the El Enemigo Chardonnay from Argentina, which went perfectly with our mains. Dylan is not only the host, but also the resident wine expert since he's working towards his Sommelier Certification! Not only was he helpful, but also very interesting and professional. We shared the Beet Salad because we really enjoy both red and golden beets, especially with the goat cheese, candied pecans, and maple-cider vinaigrette over arugula- very tasty! The "Bigs" menu was a mixture of southern specialties, local seafood, and other interesting creative dishes! I'm not a Shrimp and Grits fan normally because it is too creamy and rich for my stomach. However, the addition of andouille sausage and mushrooms with a sauce or broth that seemed more like a roux, and the expertly grilled six shrimp placed over 2 very tasty grit cakes was too good sounding to pass up. I loved it! If I had anything to critique, it might be less salt in the cakes, because the andouille added plenty to each bite! My wife was feeling less adventurous, so decided to try the Roasted Airline Chicken. Some people believe this dish is very simple, but we think that it separates the good from the skilled Chefs. And the Chef prepared this dish with great skill and creativity! He added a mushroom curry and fig chutney to the plantains and jasmine rice, which complemented the chicken very well. We ended the night with a beautiful sunset that was enjoyed by many of the patrons as evidenced by their pictures! Because it was my wife's birthday, Josie recommended we try their specialty, the Sticky Toffee Pudding, which was excellent, and not heavy or filling. They didn't charge us for that, another classy decision. Overall, this has been one of our best meals on the Crystal Coast. And we will certainly be back to enjoy another great experience! read more

The were right, every dish was delicious from the surf and turf special (scallops) and the breaded flounder. The veggie and fingerling potatoes were perfection. We both ordered the specials......I got the steak medallions that had the most amazing dipping sauce and the steak just melted in my mouth. My husband got the snowy grouper special and he just kept saying this is the best he has ever had. The view and ambiance perfectly set the table for a very nice experience. We had 5 diners in total. 1 was handicapped and access was great. We started out with good cocktails and some beers. The servers were very attentive and well trained. Gave us great responses to questions on dishes. That is always so helpful. We started with 2 orders of scallop appetizers. Oh my gosh! The scallops were the best that any of us had ever tasted. We also got pork tacos, oysters and chips. They were all also good. The beet salad was very good and large enough to split. The special grilled grouper dish was fantastic. Perfectly cooked and delish. The ribeye steak special was huge! Almost impossible to eat the whole thing! Great cut of beef! I had the West Indies fish cakes dinner that was excellently prepared. I loved the curry sauce. Of course we got 2 order of the sticky toffee deserts and 1 brownie desert! One of my favorite restaurants in North Carolina. The outside lower bar with the Painkillers to celebrate a nice day on the water or at the beach is one of my favorite traditions with friends and family. The views from the restaurant across the water are worth every penny. The family owned business is just a gem and every dish I have there is great. This week, probably my 10th or so visit, I had Grouper paired with a Chard they picked which was perfect. Our server had four years experience and knew all the details of the menu. As others have mentioned, the restaurant is tucked into a marina area and has nice views of the boats and the water. The hostess was able to fit us in on a Thursday evening before a party with a reservation arrived for dinner, but there was no pressure to hurry through our meal. Our server, Bailey, was attentive but not intrusive, the water glasses were kept full without asking - the restaurant was busy but very well staffed. My husband and I shared the beet salad - it was really tasty and fresh. After we finished the salad, the hostess came over to apologize that it had been plated without cheese (we hadn't noticed, it was so good) and she said she would take it off our bill. We told her it was fine and no problem but it was still taken off at the end. My husband had a fish special - seared, herbed red snapper on jasmine rice - and I had the shrimp & grits. The grits were served as a cake with the shrimp skewered and grilled on top, with mushrooms, tomatoes, and herbs. Everything was really well-prepared, portions big enough but not too big, flavorful and fresh. We were really happy with our experience at City Kitchen and both said we'd definitely eat here again the next time we're visiting Atlantic Beach. read more

My wife and I took our five year old daughter to Emerald Isle, NC for the week. We spent most nights eating-in, as our AirBnB had a grill and the weather was perfect for BBQing. We ate-out three nights, and two of those nights were at City Kitchen -- 40 minutes away -- because it is just that great. Feeling a little restless, we ventured out of Emerald Isle to Beaufort for a quick day trip. A Google search for "best dinner in Beaufort" found City Kitchen at the top of a Trip Advisor list. Yelp reviews confirmed their choice. We didn't have reservations, but Karen -- who manages the front of the house -- found an outdoor table for us. I should also acknowledge in the age of Covid that, indoor and outdoor, the restaurant was adhering to social distancing rules: staff was masked the entire time, patrons had to wear masks until seated, and tables were appropriately distanced. Our server, Chase, was a great guy and very personable. Another staff member brought out an Etch-a-Sketch for my daughter to play with -- a new (old, unbeknownst to her) technology that she became obsessed with immediately. For starters, we had the charred okra and burrata salad specials, and for our mains, I had a NY strip and my wife had the grouper special, which were all amazing. Genuinely amazing, and legitimately enough to get us back for another visit on their own, but to seal the deal, the desserts -- which we came to learn were made by Karen -- were the finishing touch. We had the brownie cheesecake and, at Chase's suggestion, the house special -- sticky toffee pudding. There are no words. Bury me in sticky toffee pudding when I die and drink your weight in wine at the wake. We made a reservation for two nights later before leaving and I'm glad we did because I think we got the last table. For our second visit, we had a tuna sashimi starter and we both enjoyed a different (curry style) grouper special for dinner before sharing the blueberry cobbler dessert. Again, my wife and I typically don't order dessert, let alone twice in one week, but when you know, you know. We live 500 miles away, or we'd be back again next week. Their food is great. Getting a reservation is painful. The restaurant is not on Open Table so you must call. Catching someone to answer the phone is a bit dicey. I recognize the staff is busy; so am I. The ability to book online would be quite helpful to diners. They only have one table for six so it is next to impossible to get in if you have 4+ in your party. I plan ahead; I know when I will have out-of-town visitors, so I can call & call & call until someone answers a month or more in advance if trying to get a table for 6. However, they will only take a reservation 30 days ahead of time. BUT, if you're fortunate enough to finally get in, the food is delish. read more

Always good and a nice view. It's not in downtown Beaufort so I wasn't sure about it. Turned out to be great and we've been back a number of times. I could simply sit and order each of their appetizers as dinner. Don't because you miss the main courses. Probably the top restaurant in Beaufort. One BIG complaint (since I'm writing in October). They use to have an incredible Pumpkin Martini on the menu during October. I heard it's been discontinued!!! #1 thing I want to see in a restaurant review is "Was the food good?" YES!! read more

The owner/hostess was extremely rude. This made the entire dining experience uncomfortable at best. Certainly her lashing out at our party when we arrived and constant glares ruined the generally good food and service. One exception to good food were the raw hamburgers my wife and son received. Exquisite meals! On our 2 day stay in Beaufort, last Wednesday evening we dined here. So wonderful we went back Thursday night! (forgot to take photos Thursday but another spectacular meal!) But even More Spectalular was Josie!! She is so Lovely! We wanted to see her and experience again service that both of us have Never experienced before and we worked in NYC for years and dined in many upscale spots.
