It is true that you can't see the menu while in line, but you can go inside and look. They also have a server who asks for drink orders from the line (it's much quicker to grab a beer than wait for a mixed drink). We ended up sitting at the bar because two spots opened up. The come out and just start calling your name. They find you, drop off your tray of food and bill, and when you're done eating you walk up and pay. This place was so good we came again the next day for dinner!! The line was out the door for dinner but moved pretty quickly. Service was friendly and fast. We got the fried shrimp tacos and soft shell crab sandwich again (our favorites), and tried the Black Sea bass sandwich (blackened), onion rings, Wisconsin cheese curds, a pina colada and modelo. The sides were great. Both days we tried blackened fish and think that they would've tasted better fried, but at least we gave it a chance. This is my favorite spot on the island. I'm a sucker for great fish tacos, and the Fish Hut has the best fish be ever crammed into my face hole. They're made with fresh grouper, and you can get it fried, grilled or blackened (I like blackened). They also have shrimp tacos, but I don't have a death wish...yet. This is the top spot for fish on the island. Fish Hut was recommended to me by locals and I'm so happy I went with my friends. Do note that it gets really packed so it's hard to find parking (especially with all the signs that warn of towing if you're not there for a certain business). I was recommended to visit during an off time so there is less of a wait. When you arrive, you wait in line and order at the bar. They take your name and order. You can sit wherever (there is a lot of seating inside and outside available). They'll call your name and hand your order to you when it's ready. When you're done you'll go to the pay counter and give them your name. Here's the food we tried: Poke Tacos: These were so refreshing and perfect for a hot beach day. I loved the wasabi sauce they used on top. They were very generous with the fish and the filling in this taco. It came with two tacos, but they were wonderful portions. Poke Bowl: Just as refreshing and delicious as the tacos, but this comes with rice instead of tortillas. I love the mango slaw that came with it. The rice was warm and the fish plentiful. Wisconsin Cheese Curds: My friends are obsessed with these. They were very tasty and perfectly fried. Mac & Cheese: My friend ordered this, it was topped with gold fish which I thought was cute. She didn't say much about it, which led me to think she thought it was just fine. Chicken Wings: We were told they were pretty good and the friend that ordered these devoured them. Fish Tacos: My friend adores these and told me she orders them every time she visits Emerald Isle. There isn't really a takeout option at this spot (they don't have to-go containers or so I've been told). However, eating in isn't a problem when you either come at an off hour or are visiting during off season. The people who work here are really kind and this spot is beachcore at its finest. This is one of the best meals I had in Emerald Isle (as others have mentioned, this is definitely not a foodie town so we were so happy to find this spot). We stayed across the street and noticed long lines into the parking lot every single time we drove by so plan accordingly. Things to know: - While you wait to order, a server will take drink orders and bring you a nice frozen margarita (or whatever your poison) to you! - There is a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, with their colorful picnic tables on a covered porch being the most coveted spot. If you go with kids, choose the table at the very end of the shack and your kids can get an adjacent tiny kids table to dine at. - Definitely check the specials of the day! My husband and I went with the fried red snapper with a side of rice and onion rings while my kids dined on the grilled fish nuggets and fries. Both were well seasoned, perfectly cooked, and delicious. - Servers are mostly high schoolers/college students and they were fantastic and friendly!
