Great food, we got the dry rubbed wings and cheese curds. Had the homemade cookie ice cream sandwich it was amazing. Service was good, you wait in line order your food and go pick a spot to sit down. When food is ready server will bring it out to you. Picnic neck tables under the trees and side of building. Dog friendly is always a plus. Need to get there early if you are eating supper, lines starts backing up around 5:00-5:15. We always try to eat around 4:00pm when we are at our place on the Crystal Coast. read more

This place is always packed, so we choose elsewhere to go. However, today we decided to stand in line to see what it's about. It is true that you can't see the menu while in line, but you can go inside and look. Which is not a big deal because while in there, grab a beer from their beer cooler, put one of the koozies on it to keep it cool, and go back and stand in line. You'll pay for it when you order. They also have a server who asks for drink orders from the line (it's much quicker to grab a beer than wait for a mixed drink). We ended up sitting at the bar because two spots opened up. Their mixed drink options are impressive and they are delicious!!! The food is simple while being tasty, filling, and affordable. Onion rings were fried perfectly and not greasy. The food was very fresh and you could taste that. It's been a very long time since my tastebuds have done their seafood dance! The flavors were on point and seasoned. When there is malt vinegar, ketchup, salt, pepper, hot sauce, and the paper towels on a Roll, held down by a fishing weight---yup, I've found my people! Service was amazing! Yum! Food Tried the following: Blackened Shrimp tacos, fried fish tacos , chili, cheese curds, onion rings and fries! All were very excellent and surprisingly the chili was super good! I guess it's an off-season addition. Service: Order at the counter and they then bring your food to you. Very casual environment. Glad we were with friends who told us how it works because it can be a little confusing about the system for drinks and such. Just keep track of your beers and pay for them all at the end! SO dang much to love about this homey little spot and such a big part of what made me fall head over heels for Emerald Isle. This little busy joint on the strip is different from what I'm used to. First when you're waiting in line to place your order, a waitress comes up and askes if you'd like a drink, while you are standing in line waiting. Yes, please! This makes standing in line so much better. Haha. The way they do things is different from what I am used to up here in NY. I walk in, I place my order, I go find a seat. The come out and just start calling your name. They find you, drop off your tray of food and bill, and when you're done eating you walk up and pay. With so many entrances in and out of this place you'd think they would have you pay first. I guess that's the difference between the south and NYC. Haha. This place was so good we came again the next day for dinner!! The line was out the door for dinner but moved pretty quickly. Service was friendly and fast. We got the fried shrimp tacos and soft shell crab sandwich again (our favorites), and tried the Black Sea bass sandwich (blackened), onion rings, Wisconsin cheese curds, a pina colada and modelo. The sides were great. Both days we tried blackened fish and think that they would've tasted better fried, but at least we gave it a chance. We still think the shrimp tacos and the soft shell crab sandwich are the best. This restaurant was probably the highlight of our trip food wise - definitely recommend to those visiting Emerald Isle!! read more

This is my favorite spot on the island. I'm a sucker for great fish tacos, and the Fish Hut has the best fish be ever crammed into my face hole. They're made with fresh grouper, and you can get it fried, grilled or blackened (I like blackened). They also have shrimp tacos, but I don't have a death wish...yet. Went on a Friday afternoon and it was mobbed. I ordered the grouper on a Caesar salad and the others in my party had the tacos. They all raved about the tacos and loved them, however my grouper was like a piece of rubber, I even broke the plastic cutlery trying to cut it. Came here with a group of 8 so we got to try a bunch of their menu and everything was good. Cocktails were meh but I kind of expect that from a place that doesn't advertise craft cocktails. We heard this was "the best spot to get fish on the whole island." We heard this from TWO independent sources, one local and one frequent vacationer. Don't you know, they were right! Don't let the line out the door send you away. It goes quick AND they will bring you a drink from the bar while you wait! The coconut ginger fizz was amazing, as was the Paloma. For food, we tried the blackened grouper sandwich, the blackened fish bites, a small fry, and a small cucumber tomato salad. It was all EXCELLENT. You must wait in line while they serve one by one, but don't worry they come by and get your drink order while waiting in the line. We had the cheese curds and fish bites as an appetizer and both were delicious. Their tartar sauce is chunky and homemade. I had the ahi tuna poke bowl and it was loaded with tuna and tons of toppings. The tacos come with two tacos each and the only downside is that you can't mix and match. We did shrimp tacos, and it came with an amazing sauce. Parking is limited, but there is a bike rack. The line goes out into the parking lot, which is next to a gas station so just be careful for the cars inside is not air-conditioned so make sure to dress accordingly. read more

"A grilled fish dream come true " Fish But Grill has officially unlocked a new level of seafood happiness. How does this not exist in Malibu--or honestly, anywhere else in California?! This is the top spot for fish on the island. Fish Hut was recommended to me by locals and I'm so happy I went with my friends. Do note that it gets really packed so it's hard to find parking (especially with all the signs that warn of towing if you're not there for a certain business). I was recommended to visit during an off time so there is less of a wait. When you arrive, you wait in line and order at the bar. They take your name and order. You can sit wherever (there is a lot of seating inside and outside available). They'll call your name and hand your order to you when it's ready. When you're done you'll go to the pay counter and give them your name. Here's the food we tried: Poke Tacos: These were so refreshing and perfect for a hot beach day. I loved the wasabi sauce they used on top. They were very generous with the fish and the filling in this taco. It came with two tacos, but they were wonderful portions. Poke Bowl: Just as refreshing and delicious as the tacos, but this comes with rice instead of tortillas. I love the mango slaw that came with it. The rice was warm and the fish plentiful. Wisconsin Cheese Curds: My friends are obsessed with these. They were very tasty and perfectly fried. Mac & Cheese: My friend ordered this, it was topped with gold fish which I thought was cute. She didn't say much about it, which led me to think she thought it was just fine. Chicken Wings: We were told they were pretty good and the friend that ordered these devoured them. Fish Tacos: My friend adores these and told me she orders them every time she visits Emerald Isle. There isn't really a takeout option at this spot (they don't have to-go containers or so I've been told). However, eating in isn't a problem when you either come at an off hour or are visiting during off season. The people who work here are really kind and this spot is beachcore at its finest. Everything is perfect for a beach style restaurant- except the seasoning. Family friendly, great price great atmosphere- but we ordered the fish tacos and the blackened fish tacos. Tortillas are fresh, fish quality is excellent and price great - but don't come here if you're used to seasoning. This is one of the best meals I had in Emerald Isle (as others have mentioned, this is definitely not a foodie town so we were so happy to find this spot). We stayed across the street and noticed long lines into the parking lot every single time we drove by so plan accordingly. Things to know: - While you wait to order, a server will take drink orders and bring you a nice frozen margarita (or whatever your poison) to you! - There is a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, with their colorful picnic tables on a covered porch being the most coveted spot. If you go with kids, choose the table at the very end of the shack and your kids can get an adjacent tiny kids table to dine at. - Definitely check the specials of the day! My husband and I went with the fried red snapper with a side of rice and onion rings while my kids dined on the grilled fish nuggets and fries. Both were well seasoned, perfectly cooked, and delicious. - Servers are mostly high schoolers/college students and they were fantastic and friendly! Haven't posted a review in a bit but this place is worth the rave. Food: amazing! Ordered the fish bits fried (option to grill) and sides of coke slaw and cheese curds. All three items were amazing! Great taste and quality. The fried fish were not oily at all! Price: fairly priced at $60 for 2 meals 2 sides and 2 alc beverages. Ambiance: loved the beachy feel and indoor outdoor option. The casual and chill sit where you want and we bring the food to you was great. Beachy decor was appealing. It wasn't busy when we got there but there was a line when we left. Service: great service. The girl at the order counter was great with recommendations very friendly and patient for us first timers. Our drink came out quickly and the beers and sodas function on an honor system where you grab what you want and pay at the end. The food came out pretty quickly and was fresh.
