    Parrott's on 11th signage

How has this little gem in downtown Morehead been kept a secret! Open 10+ years and I'm just discovering it! You owe it to yourself to make a reservation pronto at Parrott's on 11th aka P11! I guarantee you won't be disappointed or leave hungry! The restaurant is located in the historic Bell-Phillips house which was built in 1898. You won't find a huge sign out front, so you'll need to look for the white columns that anchor the grand wraparound porch where you can dine outside if the weather is nice. There is plenty of street side parking. While their bar only seats four, the liquor selection is varied and their cocktails are smooth. I can personally recommend their Painkiller! Seating is cozy but comfortable with two dining rooms, service is impeccable and the menu is impressive...especially when they describe all of their daily specials. We started with the meatball appetizer which was two generous sized, melt in your mouth meatballs. They were so delicious, I could have devoured several of them as my meal! I opted for their lamb chops which from their regular menu. They were the best I've had in years! They were served at a perfectly cooked medium rare and were so tender I could have cut them with my fork. I opted for their special mushroom risotto, and am so glad I did! It was decadently rich and paired nicely with the lamb. To top off your night, you need to try their chocolate cobbler which is similar to a brownie bread pudding. It severed with homemade ice cream which is the perfect accompaniment. Treat yourself to a night out at Parrott's on 11th! You can thank me later!

What a lovely place, set in an old house. There is art work on the walls that is available dye purchase. I started with the parrot salad which was very good but unexpectedly tiny. I had a pasta special for dinner with chicken, shrimp and sausage. It was plated beautifully but honestly, it was disappointedly bland. My date had blackened fish over grits which he also found a little underwhelming. The old fashioned was top notch though. Service was impeccable. I'd go back and try it again.

This has to be the first time in years and years that I've dined at a restaurant where I couldn't peruse the menu ahead of time. (which is why I took pics of the menu and will post). But let me say that the reason there is no website with a menu on it is because the menu is almost irrelevant. Because the list of nightly specials was, I do believe, longer than the actual menu. So rest assured if you don't see anything on the regular menu that's particularly appealing, the list of drool-worthy daily specials will absolutely have something that will appeal. Sis recommended this restaurant as one of her favorites. Must make reservations as it is super small, in a very old house. I wasn't sure what to expect (since they don't have a website), but from the minute we arrived (we parked out front, I opened the car door and the most delightful smell led us right on in). We were greeted then lovingly cared for by the most charming Gentleman (Butch). I can't say enough about the food. We each got an appetizer (Jalapeno Cream Shrimp with Grit Cakes for Sis, and their infamous Scallops BLT for me). I was glad to be given the option of 3 or 4 scallops. I chose 3 for $23. Perfectly seared, with a center of tomato and bacon. The sauce was a light miso. Sis's Shrimp was incredibly rich and she took a lot of it home. I tasted it and it was fantastic. For our entrees both of us chose a nightly special. Pork ribs with Cauliflower au gratin, collards and slaw for me and Pistachio Grouper with Mashed Taters and Asparagus for Sis. Again, everything terrific. Very very rich. Portions humongous. If we were to nit pick, she thought her Grouper dish could have used a touch of salt (not on table, but helped with leftovers) and I also could have used a touch more seasoning on the scallops appetizer. But both the shrimp and the ribs needed absolutely nothing else. Both of us also enjoyed a reasonably priced and tasty glass of wine. Yes it was expensive (around $200 with tip) for both of us, but it's worth every penny.

Fantastic food and service! Our new favorite place for dinner. We went on a Friday night at 7, off peak season and it was cozy without being super loud but also didn't feel the need to whisper !

Great Menu and excellent service. Family owned. Nice and cozy atmosphere. Chef specialties, great drinks and delicious meals. Make reservations and trust me you won't be disappointed.

Although we did not have a reservation they accommodated us tonight and we experienced excellent service, food and atmosphere! Highly recommend for any Special occasion! In addition, be sure to plan ahead as prices are higher than most. But you definitely get what you pay for here! Portions excellent, taste incredible, and wine paring perfect!

It was too loud to have a normal conversation. Ambiance = 2. i ordered flounder and my wife got the shrimp burger. She was satisfied with her meal, but it was just OK. Mine was not. The flounder (fried) was soggy and mushy with dark skin underneath. Still, there was little flavor and because for some reason the cook plated the fish on top of the included fries, they were soggy as well. Overall, I got the impression they aren't trying to be anything but a an overpriced mediocre joint in a captive market.

To my surprise, there was no wait and plenty of available seating. The restaurant is much larger than it appears from the outside, with a spacious dining area and a beautiful covered outdoor section overlooking the water. Watching boats cruise in while eating fresh seafood is a pretty tough way to have a bad meal. Atmosphere - 5/5 Southern Salt absolutely nails the casual coastal vibe. This isn't a place where anyone is judging your wardrobe choices. Think shorts, a polo, and a healthy appetite. The waterfront views and incoming boats create the perfect backdrop for a relaxed meal. Cleanliness - 4/5 The only minor issue was that our outdoor table was still slightly wet from an earlier rain despite being under cover. Not a big deal, and I almost feel guilty mentioning it. The restrooms, however, could use a little TLC. They're overdue for a remodel and a deeper cleaning. Nothing alarming, but enough to notice. (Urinal looked like it has been out of order for years.) Parking 5/5 Parking is free for patrons, which is always appreciated. The lot across the street was partially full when we arrived, so I could see it becoming a bit of a scavenger hunt during peak hours. On a Monday, though, it wasn't an issue. Service - 5/5 Our waitress, Isabel, was exactly what you hope for when dining out: friendly, attentive, and genuinely pleasant. She kept our drinks topped off without us having to ask and even brought a refill of the hush puppies. Any server who delivers additional hush puppies is operating at an elite level in my book. Food Quality - 4/5 The seafood was excellent. The flounder tasted fresh, the shrimp was grilled perfectly and seasoned well, and both were exactly what you'd hope for from a waterfront seafood restaurant. The hush puppies deserve their own paragraph. They were phenomenal. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and dangerously easy to keep eating. If they sold them by the bucket, I'd have questions for myself later. The cocktail sauce and tartar sauce were also noticeably better than average. My one small complaint was the fries. They weren't quite fresh-from-the-fryer hot. A touch more salt wouldn't have hurt either. Still perfectly edible, just not operating on the same level as the seafood. Value - 3/5 Our total for two meals (with waters) came to $65.06+ tip paying cash. Given the quality of the food, portion sizes, service, and atmosphere, I thought the price was reasonable. It's certainly not cheap, but compared to nearby seafood options, it feels like a solid value. One useful tip: Southern Salt charges extra for credit card payments, so bring cash if you'd rather keep a few extra dollars in your pocket. Final Thoughts Southern Salt delivers exactly what most people are looking for in a waterfront seafood restaurant: great views, friendly service, fresh seafood, and a laid-back atmosphere where nobody is trying too hard. Aside from fries that didn't quite reach their full potential, this was an excellent experience from start to finish. Overall Score: 5/5 I'd gladly return for the seafood, the waterfront views, and, most importantly, the hush puppies that somehow managed to become the star of the meal.

Unfortunately, several sanitation observations during my visit kept an otherwise excellent meal from earning a higher rating. The dining room was noticeably warm throughout the evening, making it somewhat uncomfortable during the meal. On the positive side, every member of the staff we encountered was friendly, welcoming, and eager to help. We also had the opportunity to meet the pastry chef, who was personable and clearly passionate about his work. The meal began with the house rolls, which were outstanding. They were warm, incredibly soft, buttery, and practically melted in your mouth. The Shrimp Napoleon was an excellent appetizer and easily one of the highlights of the evening. The shrimp were well prepared, the flavors were balanced, and the dish had wonderful depth. I'd rate it an 8/10. The deviled eggs had good flavor overall, although the filling leaned heavily toward mustard. The egg whites were somewhat firm and gave the impression they had been prepared well in advance and refrigerated. While enjoyable, they weren't nearly as memorable as the other dishes. The meatloaf was exceptional--without question one of the best I've ever had. It was tender, flavorful, and complemented perfectly by a rich, savory gravy. The green beans tasted remarkably fresh and were cooked beautifully. I added a side of cheese grits, which were creamy, cheesy, and absolutely outstanding. Portion sizes throughout the meal were generous and represented excellent value. Dessert finished the evening on a high note. The Key lime pie was outstanding, with a perfectly balanced tartness, smooth filling, and excellent crust. It was one of the best restaurant desserts I've had in quite some time. Where the experience suffered was in several sanitation and food-handling observations. During service, I observed an employee visibly sweating, wiping away perspiration, and then continuing food service. A fly was also discovered in an iced tea, and from my seat I was able to observe that the tea had been poured from a communal pitcher that was being used to refill multiple guests' glasses. One observation was particularly concerning. While seated near the service area, I watched an employee package a guest's leftover meal. During the process, the container slipped, partially opened, and the food fell onto the kitchen floor. Rather than discarding it or replacing the portion, the food was simply picked up, placed back into the container, and boxed as though nothing had happened. As someone who pays close attention to restaurant operations, moments like these raise legitimate concerns about food handling standards and overall sanitation practices. Floyd's has all the ingredients of a destination restaurant. The food is genuinely excellent, the staff is welcoming, and several dishes are worth returning for. However, consistent execution extends beyond the plate. Food safety and sanitation are just as important as flavor, and the observations from this visit make it difficult to award a higher score.
