I had a truly wonderful evening with my family. Our waiter was exceptional! He guided us through many creative choices from drinks,appetizers and entrees. The menu wasn't the same old thing! We all agreed that the top choice were the crab cakes and the delicious sides accompanying that dish. The chicken pesto dish came in second.Grouper was very good,but not outstanding. The grits in my scallops recipe needed to be enriched with cream and/or butter. At their price point I feel the dish needs to be the best I have tasted! Do not get me wrong,I will be returning for special occasions. So far, Parrott's on 11th is my favorite restaurant in the Beaufort and Morehead City area. Parrott's is a lovely restaurant somehow fit into a historic house just off the main drag in Morehead City. The menu is creative both for food and drinks, and you're definitely going to need a reservation to get seated. While you're there expect top notch service, and food that is really good, but at least in my experience, falling a bit short of the excellence the prices are aiming for. We were all kind of hungry and thirsty when we came in, having spent the day on Shackleford island, and being shut down at every turn by the restaurant we stopped into first hoping to have some appetizers (they were out of everything we asked about). This boded well for Parrott's, we got several apps and cocktails in addition to our mains. Unfortunately, it was really those apps that I felt fell short. Our waiter talked up the lamb meatballs to the point where we were really expecting to be blown away, and ultimately, they were pretty ordinary, and just two of them, making it hard to split amongst 6 people. Same could be said for the pork belly bbq skewers, they were small and didn't thrill any of us. The main courses made up for those shortcomings, a couple of us got the grouper, there was a scallops and grits order, a delicious pesto chicken pasta, and some crab cakes that I ended up being pretty jealous of because they stole the show. These mains were a good size helping, and each robust in their own ways, showcasing creativity and excellence in the kitchen. In the end, for the amount of the bill, you expect everything to be top notch up and down, and it fell short of that to me... but not so drastically so that I wouldn't recommend the place to others, with the caveat to have appetizers somewhere else first. read more

This lovely, unassuming historical building is the home of an amazing evening out. If you see the outside curtains you've found it. You're greeted as you walk in the door. Grouper is not as tender as flaunder and a sauce does help a long way. In this regard City kitchen does a much better job. Also I might add that $52 for a grouper is a bit high in price. How has this little gem in downtown Morehead been kept a secret! Open 10+ years and I'm just discovering it! You owe it to yourself to make a reservation pronto at Parrott's on 11th aka P11! I guarantee you won't be disappointed or leave hungry! The restaurant is located in the historic Bell-Phillips house which was built in 1898. You won't find a huge sign out front, so you'll need to look for the white columns that anchor the grand wraparound porch where you can dine outside if the weather is nice. There is plenty of street side parking. While their bar only seats four, the liquor selection is varied and their cocktails are smooth. I can personally recommend their Painkiller! Seating is cozy but comfortable with two dining rooms, service is impeccable and the menu is impressive...especially when they describe all of their daily specials. We started with the meatball appetizer which was two generous sized, melt in your mouth meatballs. They were so delicious, I could have devoured several of them as my meal! I opted for their lamb chops which from their regular menu. They were the best I've had in years! They were served at a perfectly cooked medium rare and were so tender I could have cut them with my fork. I opted for their special mushroom risotto, and am so glad I did! It was decadently rich and paired nicely with the lamb. To top off your night, you need to try their chocolate cobbler which is similar to a brownie bread pudding. What a lovely place, set in an old house. There is art work on the walls that is available dye purchase. I started with the parrot salad which was very good but unexpectedly tiny. I had a pasta special for dinner with chicken, shrimp and sausage. It was plated beautifully but honestly, it was disappointedly bland. My date had blackened fish over grits which he also found a little underwhelming. The old fashioned was top notch though. Service was impeccable. I'd go back and try it again. read more

This has to be the first time in years and years that I've dined at a restaurant where I couldn't peruse the menu ahead of time. (which is why I took pics of the menu and will post). But let me say that the reason there is no website with a menu on it is because the menu is almost irrelevant. Because the list of nightly specials was, I do believe, longer than the actual menu. So rest assured if you don't see anything on the regular menu that's particularly appealing, the list of drool-worthy daily specials will absolutely have something that will appeal. Sis recommended this restaurant as one of her favorites. Must make reservations as it is super small, in a very old house. I wasn't sure what to expect (since they don't have a website), but from the minute we arrived (we parked out front, I opened the car door and the most delightful smell led us right on in). We were greeted then lovingly cared for by the most charming Gentleman (Butch). I can't say enough about the food. We each got an appetizer (Jalapeno Cream Shrimp with Grit Cakes for Sis, and their infamous Scallops BLT for me). I was glad to be given the option of 3 or 4 scallops. I chose 3 for $23. Perfectly seared, with a center of tomato and bacon. The sauce was a light miso. Sis's Shrimp was incredibly rich and she took a lot of it home. I tasted it and it was fantastic. For our entrees both of us chose a nightly special. Pork ribs with Cauliflower au gratin, collards and slaw for me and Pistachio Grouper with Mashed Taters and Asparagus for Sis. Again, everything terrific. Very very rich. Portions humongous. If we were to nit pick, she thought her Grouper dish could have used a touch of salt (not on table, but helped with leftovers) and I also could have used a touch more seasoning on the scallops appetizer. But both the shrimp and the ribs needed absolutely nothing else. Both of us also enjoyed a reasonably priced and tasty glass of wine. Yes it was expensive (around $200 with tip) for both of us, but it's worth every penny. read more

First time visitor to Parrott's on 11th but it won't be the last. Food was great and service (thanks Damon) was also. We started with their signature "Scallops BLT". It was supposed to be 4 scallops but because they were small, they gave us a 5th. Sliced in half with bacon and a spinach leaf, these were really good. I had the grouper special. It was encrusted with pistachio and served with yukon gold mased potatoes and asparagus. Fish size was generous and cooked just right. Asparagus was good although maybe a little big for my taste. Normally potatoes are just potatoes, but these were loaded with cream and very tasty. My partner had the duck breast over smashed sweet potatoes and sautéed spinach. Again a hit. The duck breast was cooked just right (medium rare) and although the presentation was simple it was just what she wanted. For desert we split a slice of key lime pie. Damon told us that all their deserts came from Sugarloaf Bakery. It was good with whipped cream on the side and a drizzle of caramel. 2 cups of coffee finished our meal. Our meal was great and Damon did a fantastic job of making us feel special. Be prepared to pay up but this is a must stop for anyone looking for fine dining in Morehead City or Beaufort. read more

What an amazing find in this part of NC! This place is a bit elusive as there is no sign and it is in a 'house'. I have been here every time I come to this area and miss it when I am away! For apps - we had tried the scallop BLT (yes you heard right and the scallops are the buns), the jalapeno creme shrimp (a hidden gem on the main menu!), the Parrot's salad and the bisque. It was all amazing - I wish I could have them every day. Entree wise, though the menu looks small, they have several specials that occur daily. I have tried the duck, the salmon, the lamb chops - from the main menu - all do not disappoint. We also tried a seafood special (a version of a pot pie without the crust) which was delicious. The pork osso bucco was a very filling and great meal as well! Dessert - chocolate souffle - can't go wrong! Key lime pie was also delicious! My favorite part of this place is Lori (sp? sorry if I spelled wrong), George, and Butch. They are so hospitable and you feel like you're at home. I was impressed they remembered me from a visit 1.5 years ago. Safe to say, I will always frequent this spot whenever I am out that way. If you haven't tried it, go! read more

We had such a delicious dinner @pon11th last night! Our server Butch was amazing and so accommodating. We started with their award winning NC shrimp & corn bisque (to die for, chunky & flavorful) and jalapeños creme shrimp (huge shrimps, bites of grits, and just the perfect hint of spiciness). I had their mahi mahi special over grits, spinach, mushrooms, and pineapple salsa/ chutney - omg the portion and flavors! Matt devoured his shrimp and grits. An unforgettable meal! We got desserts to go and while it didn't not photograph well at home, it also didn't last long since we inhaled both the key line pie and chocolate bread pudding (but more like cake+brownie mix). Such a wonderful place for fine dining in Morehead City, and as I mentioned, they were so accommodating even with 2 kids. We made reservations and went right at 5pm when they opened. read more

A great place to go for a more upscale meal while you are down at the beach. Started with scallop blt and jalapeño creme shrimp. Both were really good Scallop blt was cooked perfectly. It is a scallop cut in half and used as the bread with bacon in the middle. It had great flavor with softness of the scallop and the hardy salty flavor of the bacon. Jalapeño crème shrimp Very good flavor and well balanced spice to the rich creme. Shrimp is perfectly cooked adds the needed flavor to balance with the creme. Jalapeño adds enough heat to help the other flavors stick out but is not spicy. For an entree I got the osso buco. It was a special for the night. Was served with carrots green beans and red onion risotto. The osso buco was perfectly cooked. You didn't even need a knife since it was so tender but it wasn't over cooked falling off the bone. The vegetables were well seasoned and cooked well. The risotto was rich and but the onions add hardy flavor that was well balanced with the other items in the dish. My friends all got desert but I was too full from everything else. They got the key lime pie, bread pudding, and chocolate cake. All are served with vanilla bean cream or ice cream. Had a double date at P11 [unknowingly] the weekend of Big Rock. We were immediately seated on the porch while waiting for our friends to meet us and placed a drink order, only to be asked to move tables 5 min later because they needed the one we were sat at for a bigger incoming party, we happily obliged. Our friends arrived and ordered drinks and it took at least 40 min for our drinks to even be served. For appetizers we ordered the shrimp served on a grit cake, the scallop BLT, and the pimento cheese - all were great but the pimento was definitely our least favorite. Our friends had the pasta dish, I had the pork chop, and my husband had lamb all of which were great. Our favorite part was the decanted bottle of CAYMUS that certainly didn't disappoint. We had the crème brûlée as dessert which was wonderful and a husband favorite. It did take a while for our food to be served and we didn't actually finish our dinner until 9:30 pm (we were sat at 6:30). The atmosphere was unlike any other, the food and wine was great, but the service and timeliness of the meal certainly could be improved, hence the 4 stars. We were able to get a 5:30 reservation on Saturday by leaving a message on their recorder. The porch was pleasant even though it is a West facing porch. The curtains shielded us from the sunlight. There is pleasant, low key music playing over the speakers. Butch knows all about the nightly specials and doesn't skip a beat. I recommend splitting a plate if you're not real hungry. They do the split in the kitchen with all the sides, as well, so it looks like two complete meal plates. Classy. One person ordered the trigger fish and was very happy. I cannot recommend this place enough! My friend and I had dinner at Parrott's on Saturday night after a couple of evenings of lackluster meals in the Morehead and Atlantic Beach area. We didn't have a reservation and were craving a really satisfying meal -- we showed up hungry shortly after 5 pm and were seated right away. (On that note, I'm sure it's a smart idea to have a reservation at a later time.) We were originally planning to go to Amos Mosquito, and I'm so glad we didn't. The atmosphere is charming and relaxed. The restaurant is in an old house, and we we sat outside on the front patio. I'm from Boston and appreciated the Southern vibe and change in pace :) Service is outstanding. Food is fabulous. Best meal I've had in a very long time. We started with the scallop BLT sliders (how can you say no to that?). I had the crabbed stuffed salmon for my main dish and my friend ordered the Grouper special, which looked amazing. The menu is a decent size: small enough that you know it's well executed while large enough to have options. Oh, and SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! When Butch, our server, told us the options, the list just kept going. I feel the need to go back just to try the other dessert offerings. I selected the chocolate cobbler, which is just as delicious as it sounds and served with homemade vanilla cream and ice cream. It's a shame I couldn't finish it. My friend had the peanut butter pie, which she thought could use more chocolate, but if that's your biggest complaint, things are looking pretty good. I should note that the drinks are excellent, as well. We both had the strawberry daquiri served on the rocks (I think it was a special that night). Perfect for a humid summer evening. Highly recommend getting a reservation as there are only about 8 tables inside. We did see a walk in couple seated due to a no-show so you can always test your luck! We celebrated a birthday and will definitely go back at every opportunity. Rosemary bread to start was fantastic. Drinks were 5/5 - we had the painkiller and the lemonade cocktail. This is the best spot in Morehead. Yes, entrees are on the pricier end, but the food is stunningly incredible. Between the normal menu, specials, and desserts, there is not a single thing on the menu that I wouldn't order. There's always killer cocktails and amazing seafood dishes. The food, the service, they have it all! When we arrived we were warmly greeted by the host who gave us our table and chatted with us for a bit about the area. He recommended their scallop sliders which were immaculate (you read that right: Scallop Sliders). I had the duck breast as my entree and my fiancée had the salmon. It was all amazing. Food was amazing and the staff was super helpful and responsive leading up to our dinner. We were traveling to the area from CT and were there for a birthday. My son ordered the lamb chops and he said they were the best he ever had and cleaned them to the bone. I had the duck. The skin was crispy and the fat was rendered perfectly. I ate every bit. Only negative was our meal took a looong time to come out. We think there server forgot to fire it because they were short staffed. Normally we don't mind but we had a five year old with us and it was getting late for her and pushing the limits. 10/10 would absolutely recommend them and we will definitely go back if we are in the area again. read more
