$48 ribeye. Ordered medium rare, came out medium.

Was told a 45 min wait but the hostess said it would be before that and it was only 30 mins. I would rather be early than over the 45. Service was good and the place was clean. Didn't see the waiter as much as we wanted to but it looked like they were short staffed. It took a while for the dinner to come out but I can understand that with the amount of people there for the Big Rock Blue Marlin event. My only complaint was the steak. I asked for medium rare but got medium. It was seasoned very well. Everyone else's food was great.

I came in here and had the Prime Rib Crostini. Was the best thing I have had here. And everything from the service, drinks to the food was amazing.

We decided to stop in for New Year's Eve and take a chance at 5:00pm for a party of 5. Luckily they were able to accommodate. They sat us and we had a very attentive server, I'm sorry I forgot his name as it was a unique name. He continually made sure that we were well taken care of. We started with cocktails which were delicious. Three of us had a Painkiller and one had a Mich Ultra. The cocktails were a perfect start. I then had six oysters on the half shell since they are in season (any month with an r). The others had the Honey Pecan Shrimp. They said they were delicious. For dinner I had a Shrimp and Scallop Scampi dish. First off the dish was delicious with plenty seafood. From my picky foodie perspective I was expecting a few nice size scallops but there were quite a few of the small Bay Scallops. Also, the description was in a lemon caper sauce which was incorrect as it was a creamy Alfredo sauce with no capers. It was very creamy and cheesy and delicious so despite both of these observations, it was a good choice. The whole dinner would have been perfect with some nice warm fresh bread. The ambience is very nice and can be from casual to upscale. It is my understanding that this is another great choice from the restaurant group that owns Red Fish and Table 9. Give this establishment a try if in Morehead City. You won't be disappointed.

Amazing atmosphere, food and service. Beet salad for the win. Lots of fresh seafood, we went with Oysters. Yummy

    Shrimp and scallop linguine

Food was excellent. The ahi tuna burger was tasty. The aioli had just enough kick to be tasty, very flavorful. The fries were hot and tasty and plentiful.. The shrimp and linguine had lots of shrimp and was tasty as well. The service was great. Loved the atmosphere. Will need to go back for the oysters. Sorry for the blue tint on the pictures. No clue.

My partner and I went here for a dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! super friendly and attentive staff who anticipated our every need. They answered all our questions and accommodated our drink preferences. Food was absolutely delicious and we'll be visiting again on our next vacation!

Great spot down on the waterfront in Morehead City right across from the marina. The dining areas are really inviting and you can watch oysters being roasted over open flames while sipping ice cold water served in old woodford reserve bottles. The menu is pretty straightforward for what you would expect in a coastal town with lots of traditional options (shrimp tacos, tuna burgers, scampi, etc). The portions are pretty generous but it is a tad on the pricey side with raw oysters clocking in at $3 a piece and kids options ringing in at $12 per entree. I don't mind the premium if the service is commensurate and I will say that the entire staff did a great job. There was a little confusion after we were first seated and had to wait about 7 mins for our server to come over but after that she was on point. Everything was super tasty including the yellowfin tuna which was cooked perfectly and served over a bed of leafy greens with wasabi and sweet soy sauce. It could have used a side of some rice or something else given the $32 price point but it was definitely great. You can get basically the same thing with the tuna burger for $18 and it comes with fries. Overall it was a great meal and would definitely be a place we will visit again.

Food was absolutely delicious. Only complaint was the slight grittiness of the shrimp scampi. Everything else was perfect. My waiter was charismatic and quite friendly. I loved the service. The ambiance was decent, but no amazing outdoor seating as the competitor's have. Tables have comfortable seating though. I'd you're looking for good seafood, this is a solid choice. Their specials always hit right.

    Cool wall mural

Atmosphere was great and the service was as well! The shrimp tempura appetizer was amazing!! After noting to the waiter we had had less than stellar dinners they served a pasta dish with way overcooked shrimp. We sent them back, and the same was served!

This is one of the best in the area. Service is always good...it is a very nice, relaxed and cassier place. Their charbroiled oysters are a DEFINITE must. Everything else we've had here has also been excellent. It is great for date night and also for larger groups too. We come here often, for nicer occasions and also when we have a craving for the oysters.

Husband was so excited to eat! Yummy ribeye and truffle Mac and cheese!

To my surprise, there was no wait and plenty of available seating. The restaurant is much larger than it appears from the outside, with a spacious dining area and a beautiful covered outdoor section overlooking the water. Watching boats cruise in while eating fresh seafood is a pretty tough way to have a bad meal. Atmosphere - 5/5 Southern Salt absolutely nails the casual coastal vibe. This isn't a place where anyone is judging your wardrobe choices. Think shorts, a polo, and a healthy appetite. The waterfront views and incoming boats create the perfect backdrop for a relaxed meal. Cleanliness - 4/5 The only minor issue was that our outdoor table was still slightly wet from an earlier rain despite being under cover. Not a big deal, and I almost feel guilty mentioning it. The restrooms, however, could use a little TLC. They're overdue for a remodel and a deeper cleaning. Nothing alarming, but enough to notice. (Urinal looked like it has been out of order for years.) Parking 5/5 Parking is free for patrons, which is always appreciated. The lot across the street was partially full when we arrived, so I could see it becoming a bit of a scavenger hunt during peak hours. On a Monday, though, it wasn't an issue. Service - 5/5 Our waitress, Isabel, was exactly what you hope for when dining out: friendly, attentive, and genuinely pleasant. She kept our drinks topped off without us having to ask and even brought a refill of the hush puppies. Any server who delivers additional hush puppies is operating at an elite level in my book. Food Quality - 4/5 The seafood was excellent. The flounder tasted fresh, the shrimp was grilled perfectly and seasoned well, and both were exactly what you'd hope for from a waterfront seafood restaurant. The hush puppies deserve their own paragraph. They were phenomenal. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and dangerously easy to keep eating. If they sold them by the bucket, I'd have questions for myself later. The cocktail sauce and tartar sauce were also noticeably better than average. My one small complaint was the fries. They weren't quite fresh-from-the-fryer hot. A touch more salt wouldn't have hurt either. Still perfectly edible, just not operating on the same level as the seafood. Value - 3/5 Our total for two meals (with waters) came to $65.06+ tip paying cash. Given the quality of the food, portion sizes, service, and atmosphere, I thought the price was reasonable. It's certainly not cheap, but compared to nearby seafood options, it feels like a solid value. One useful tip: Southern Salt charges extra for credit card payments, so bring cash if you'd rather keep a few extra dollars in your pocket. Final Thoughts Southern Salt delivers exactly what most people are looking for in a waterfront seafood restaurant: great views, friendly service, fresh seafood, and a laid-back atmosphere where nobody is trying too hard. Aside from fries that didn't quite reach their full potential, this was an excellent experience from start to finish. Overall Score: 5/5 I'd gladly return for the seafood, the waterfront views, and, most importantly, the hush puppies that somehow managed to become the star of the meal.

Step one should be the same for everyone. Get there when they open at 4:45 because damn does this place get busy quick even on weekdays. When I rolled into the parking lot at 4:40, I had probably 15-20 already at the door. Step two, if you get there at open, consider bar seating. Clam Chowder - Scalloped Scallops - Key Lime Pie I'll just keep it at this. Is anything I ordered going to reinvent the culinary wheel? No, and one could argue that the only negative here is that most everything is on the pricey side. But with that said, everything was extremely consistent, everything was brought out perfectly timed, my cup never runnethed (sure, it's a word) empty and the bar staff are all excellent conversationalists. Also one big upside, the ambiance. The bar area is kept dark as it should be in any bar type situation and the music selection was mostly a fantastic mix of classic R&B and Blues. Can't tell you the last time I enjoyed seafood while listening to John Lee Hooker (well, I can and it would be never which is why my mind was sort of blown). Groaney, groan, groan on some of the pricing but the overall situation here is worth the five stars. I get the hype and I get why it's always busy. Also, kudos to the owner who was up front and making sure to thank every single person that walked by/out the door. Very classy.

The menu is creative both for food and drinks, and you're definitely going to need a reservation to get seated. While you're there expect top notch service, and food that is really good, but at least in my experience, falling a bit short of the excellence the prices are aiming for. We were all kind of hungry and thirsty when we came in, having spent the day on Shackleford island, and being shut down at every turn by the restaurant we stopped into first hoping to have some appetizers (they were out of everything we asked about). This boded well for Parrott's, we got several apps and cocktails in addition to our mains. Unfortunately, it was really those apps that I felt fell short. Our waiter talked up the lamb meatballs to the point where we were really expecting to be blown away, and ultimately, they were pretty ordinary, and just two of them, making it hard to split amongst 6 people. Same could be said for the pork belly bbq skewers, they were small and didn't thrill any of us. The main courses made up for those shortcomings, a couple of us got the grouper, there was a scallops and grits order, a delicious pesto chicken pasta, and some crab cakes that I ended up being pretty jealous of because they stole the show. These mains were a good size helping, and each robust in their own ways, showcasing creativity and excellence in the kitchen. In the end, for the amount of the bill, you expect everything to be top notch up and down, and it fell short of that to me... but not so drastically so that I wouldn't recommend the place to others, with the caveat to have appetizers somewhere else first.
