    October 2020 menu

(This visit was made during the times of Covidious back in October. When things return to a look of normality - your experience likely will vary.) It was a long drive down to the area and we were hungry. There is not a ton of options that are open on a weeknight later in the area so we opted to schlep to the hotel restaurant. Two things worth noting: 1. The older pictures from a different poster show a menu that existed here in the past but currently that menu is well...a thing of the past. I assume like a lot of other restaurants this place streamlined things in an attempt to right size their costs. I included two pictures of the front/back of the current menu. They keep those in a pile at the front desk but you will not find them in the rooms or that I noticed anywhere else on property. 2. On the bottom of the menu it mentions that reservations are required yet the front desk will tell you that you don't need a reservation and that showing up is more than good enough. We were there over a weekend when the hotel was sold out one night and nearly sold out another night yet patronage was light at best. Black Angus Ribeye - Crab Cakes - Chicken Tenders The best part of the meal was the rice blend that they served with all of the entrees. Why? The cakes have too much filler, 1/3 of the tenders were rock hard over done and the ribeye was shizzling with too much grizzling. Two other points worth noting: 1. Everything is served in Styrofoam take out containers so if you're some enviro-hippe you're not going to like this and also it honestly looks like they called the restaurant down the street and got the food from them. Odd. 2. Even though the front desk said just show up, that led to some confusion. There was no one in the restaurant and to get someone's attention I had to pop in to the bar/lounge next store where both members of the staff were kibitzing (maskless of course) with the people they had in there. They tried to have us eat in there but I wasn't having it. Eventually things worked out but clearly we were annoying them. Overall the prices are meh and the food was serviceable. Would I recommend coming here? No and in the future if we come back we'll be looking elsewhere.

Excellent service, friendly and helpful staff. Very tasty food. Well priced and perfect dining option for hotel and conference center guests.

Stayed at the Doubletree Atlantic Beach last night (4/6/18). Had dinner at the Prime 1079 restaurant located in the hotel. Service was great, our server (I didn't get her name) was friendly and attentive. We started with the crab dip appetizer. The portion was more than enough for 2 to share and it had real crab meat. My only criticism is that it was a little bland. I couldn't taste any Old Bay or other seasoning but it was still good. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my mom had the fried shrimp basket. The shrimp and grits was $2 more than the shrimp basket. I don't understand the logic of that. There were 4 shrimp, about 6 thin slices of Andouille sausage, a sprinkle of bacon and maybe a cup of grits. There wasn't any pimento cheese or diced tomatoes as described on the menu. I asked for no parsley to be sprinkled on my food and the server assured me that they didn't sprinkle parsley on the shrimp and grits, just green onion. I told her that was fine. When she served my dinner, she explained that they sprinkled parsley by mistake and tried to pick it off. She offered to have them remake it but I declined, I didn't want my mom's food to get cold because she would have waited for me. The shrimp and grits was like the crab dip, in need of seasoning. It was very bland and disappointing. All was not lost as there were 2 highlights to the meal. The fried shrimp basket was wonderful. My mom got 12 jumbo sized shrimp and a hearty portion of fries, it was enough for 2 people. 12 huge shrimp for less money than the shrimp and grits with 4...made no sense. The shrimp were delicious, nicely breaded and well seasoned. We both added a side of asparagus, the vegetable of the day. We each got 4 large, thick spears that were cooked and seasoned perfectly. We will definitely go back again, the hotel is a great getaway for ocean lovers with spectacular views. Next time, I'll definitely order the shrimp basket, an excellent value for the cost.

I wanted to order room service instead of DoorDash or delivery. Room service always feels so much more high class because of the way it's presented. I am unsure if because of COVID that food cannot be served on a tray in a hot dish with silverware or what because our food was delivered in a plastic bag with plastic containers and no silverware. Worse that a delivery because the tip was $10 already added on plus an additional $4.00 to bring the food up. The man who answered the phone when I called was great. He was funny, outgoing and made me laugh. He was the only part of this whole experience that I enjoyed. The cheeseburger was so greasy and the meat used was not of good quality. My daughter did like the French fries. The crab dip was an average crab dip but the pita bread tasted almost burnt which was weird cause they were cold. The garden salad was a decent salad but once again, I had no silverware. For a fine dining restaurant, I was not expecting a golden Italian dressing either. The crab cake sandwich was good. The crab cake itself was a lot of crab but there was no form to it. I didn't not eat any of the bun. The onion rings were what ruined the whole thing fir me. They were really think breaded and extremely greasy. I was paying for that the rest of the night. I will definitely order DoorDash next time.

Calamari was amazing! Red sauce was very robust!

Marcelo was the waiter, he rocked! Very personable but not intrusive. Calamari was perfect! Red sauce phenomenal! Very disappointed in rest of meal - 8 oz filet was more like a sirloin. It was way over season with pepper, which is disappointing because of the steak house named prime you would expect the beef to be a high-quality that could stand on its own. The grilled shrimp was disappointing as well. Very small and not what you expect at a restaurant right on the ocean. The Mac and cheese was wonderful- just like grandmother made :) No bread was not served with the meal which was odd too.

The bartender was busy working and singing in between taking orders as she prepared drinks for customers. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and offered the specials before we placed our order. We love to sample the menu when we travel and the vast menu of tapas gave us the perfect opportunity to try just about everything. They had a smaller wine selection, but there was something for just about everyone. Our waiter was very attentive and offered suggestions on what to try if we were torn between several menu options. The Spanish lamb meatballs, truffle honey pork belly and rosemary beef were the tapas that stood out as the most flavorful and making us each want just one more bite. The Spanish meatballs were glazed with sriracha which caused me to pause before ordering. However, I'm so happy that we gave them a try. They had a bold flavor, but the whipped feta and cilantro were enough to balance the heat. The truffle honey pork belly was sliced differently. We have only had this cut into cubes at other restaurants in the past. The way that they slice the pork belly is so much better. The pork belly was served with cheese grits. We don't even like cheese grits, but could not get enough of these smoked Gouda grits. The rosemary beef with asparagus and mashed potatoes was perfect. The beef was tender, the asparagus cooked to perfection and who doesn't love mashed potatoes. We visit the crystal coast about twice a year and always try a couple of new places. We look forward to coming back to Circa 81 each time that we visit!

Yo, the internet homies steered me wrong! Shame on y'all!…read more I got the shrimp burger with smoked gouda mac and cheese. The shrimp were criminally overcooked, and the mac needed salt in the worst way. They didn't salt the pasta water (or salt it enough), and the mac was really sad, as a result. My friend got the soup of the day combo, which were were told was a "white bean and basil soup", but I'll be danged if it didn't come out with the most garbanzo-y looking white beans I've ever seen in my life. She said it tasted like they dumped rotel, chickpeas, and pesto into a pot and called it soup, and not in a good way. My wife got the smoked wings. She said the flavor was good, but they were brought out lukewarm and very lightly sauced (she's an extra saucy kind of lady). We got two cocktails, a cherry limeade slushie and a Kill Devil Hills Pain Killer. We were told the cherry limeade was made with just cherry mixer, lime, and vodka, but it definitely tasted like it had coconut in it, and my wife hates coconut. The Pain Killer I got was acceptable, but we ordered it with our food, and it didn't come out until I'd almost finished my dinner. The vibes in the place were meh, but fine (especially if the food/drinks were good), but the tables were extremely sticky across their entire surface, so either someone sucks at cleaning, or the finish on the tables was failing and needed to be sanded down/refinished. We did get a side of sweet potato fries that were pretty dope, but they didn't make up for the disappointment of everything else. 1 out of 5 stars; do not recommend.

To my surprise, there was no wait and plenty of available seating. The restaurant is much larger than it appears from the outside, with a spacious dining area and a beautiful covered outdoor section overlooking the water. Watching boats cruise in while eating fresh seafood is a pretty tough way to have a bad meal. Atmosphere - 5/5 Southern Salt absolutely nails the casual coastal vibe. This isn't a place where anyone is judging your wardrobe choices. Think shorts, a polo, and a healthy appetite. The waterfront views and incoming boats create the perfect backdrop for a relaxed meal. Cleanliness - 4/5 The only minor issue was that our outdoor table was still slightly wet from an earlier rain despite being under cover. Not a big deal, and I almost feel guilty mentioning it. The restrooms, however, could use a little TLC. They're overdue for a remodel and a deeper cleaning. Nothing alarming, but enough to notice. (Urinal looked like it has been out of order for years.) Parking 5/5 Parking is free for patrons, which is always appreciated. The lot across the street was partially full when we arrived, so I could see it becoming a bit of a scavenger hunt during peak hours. On a Monday, though, it wasn't an issue. Service - 5/5 Our waitress, Isabel, was exactly what you hope for when dining out: friendly, attentive, and genuinely pleasant. She kept our drinks topped off without us having to ask and even brought a refill of the hush puppies. Any server who delivers additional hush puppies is operating at an elite level in my book. Food Quality - 4/5 The seafood was excellent. The flounder tasted fresh, the shrimp was grilled perfectly and seasoned well, and both were exactly what you'd hope for from a waterfront seafood restaurant. The hush puppies deserve their own paragraph. They were phenomenal. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and dangerously easy to keep eating. If they sold them by the bucket, I'd have questions for myself later. The cocktail sauce and tartar sauce were also noticeably better than average. My one small complaint was the fries. They weren't quite fresh-from-the-fryer hot. A touch more salt wouldn't have hurt either. Still perfectly edible, just not operating on the same level as the seafood. Value - 3/5 Our total for two meals (with waters) came to $65.06+ tip paying cash. Given the quality of the food, portion sizes, service, and atmosphere, I thought the price was reasonable. It's certainly not cheap, but compared to nearby seafood options, it feels like a solid value. One useful tip: Southern Salt charges extra for credit card payments, so bring cash if you'd rather keep a few extra dollars in your pocket. Final Thoughts Southern Salt delivers exactly what most people are looking for in a waterfront seafood restaurant: great views, friendly service, fresh seafood, and a laid-back atmosphere where nobody is trying too hard. Aside from fries that didn't quite reach their full potential, this was an excellent experience from start to finish. Overall Score: 5/5 I'd gladly return for the seafood, the waterfront views, and, most importantly, the hush puppies that somehow managed to become the star of the meal.

Bahia has probably the best food I've had from any of the current crop of Atlantic Beach places. Every dish I've tried so far has been excellent. One in particular needs to be highlighted. The crab dip is possibly the best I've ever eaten, anywhere. You need to try it. Pro tip: Be prepared for the generous amount of butter and oil in and on the food -- it adds to the richness and is definitely a good thing, but you'll want to be careful if you're planning on performing microsurgery or wiping your eyeglasses. There is unobtrusive but good quality live music, which is always a plus (and seems more well-considered than the solo guitar dudes repeatedly playing "Free Fallin" at the neighboring restaurants and bars).
