The City Hotel is not a hotel any longer, but a cafe and lounge. Pass under its warmly-glowing, welcoming Art Deco neon sign; walk through a short hallway, its cream-colored walls decorated with vintage photos of the hotel, its founder, and his family members; and savor an atmosphere of a 1940s cafe with walls covered in dark wood paneling matching wood and tiled low ceiling, and an inviting group of four red-vinyl upholstered benches installed in a corner, three of which having three sides forming open rectangles with curved corners, and the corner bench forming a semi-circle, each bench providing snug seating with friends, or even if one is alone. Three tables with four chairs each stand in a row nearby to accommodate guest who prefer to have more elbow room than the benches might provide. The unpretentious, time-worn wooden 3-sided bar, its varnish rubbed away in places by decades of patrons' elbows, nevertheless stands reliably like a loyal, time-tested friend while the bartender working behind it attentively and cordially serves you your favorite beer or spirit.
