Starlight Llama Bed & Breakfast - Llama greetings!

    Starlight Llama Bed & Breakfast

The name says it all!!…read more My girlfriend and I were looking for a cool get away location for a weekend. I had been to Northampton once before and had wanted to go back. Came across this wonderful bed & breakfast pretty early in the search and the name totally sold us. The couple that runs it couldn't be any nicer or more accommodating. They were very nice and helpful in the reservation process and they greeted us warmly upon arrival. Obviously, you have to enjoy animals to want to stay here. We do for sure and were not disappointed! They have a great array of animals, all with really distinct personalities. We were able to say hello to all of them and help feed a few. One of the best parts was enjoying all the sounds they make. My personal favorite is the sound the Emu's make which sounds like a distant african drum. Their donkey also makes a great sound. It's as you'd expect but the timing was great. The donkey acted very much like a dog who just HAD to have attention. :) He got all noisy when he saw other animals getting attention when he wasn't. It was great. Other stars of the weekend included their 2 pugs who make us smile just writing about. The owners make a wonderful breakfast each morning with all local items including fruits, granola, breads and eggs from their own hens. The location was great because we were about 5 minutes driving distance from the main part of Northampton. We also loved the location because of how far away it was from any city lights. The sky was amazingly clear and we got to see so many stars, even with the naked eye. If you have a telescope, bring it! For the first time, I got to see the milkyway and it was beautiful. The rooms were very comfortable and made us feel right at home. We will definitely be back for another visit.

The animals were fun to watch, especially the male peacock as he tried to court the females with his plumage and little dance. The emus made a very interesting noise, and I got to see one of their very large dark eggs. Breakfast was also excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed the homemade French toast. I highly recommend it!

The breakfast is outstanding: there is a cooked-to-order menu (with eggs from their own chickens!) and a beautiful set-up in a sun room overlooking the nature reserve in the backyard. The property has a beautiful pool and my son loved the game room with a pool table. The very friendly owners, also the chefs, clearly pay attention to detail!

A wooded oasis one minute from Fitchburg State, 1.5h by train from Boston!…read more Visiting family in Fitchburg, we wanted to stay close to the center of town, and we were so lucky to find availability at Howarth House B&B! This beautiful wooded oasis is just up the hill from Fitchburg State University. The home is lovely, with three upstairs rooms available for guests. With our family along, we spent time in two of the rooms. The Harvard is spacious and has a great shower with streams from two sides. What a luxurious experience! The Hudson is also roomy with a serene view of the pool and the back woods (and chicken coop!). It has a jetted tub, so very relaxing, and a shower too. The beds are huge and comfortable, with what must be a pillow-top on the tall firm mattress. These might be the most comfortable rooms we've ever stayed in at a B&B! Breakfast is freshly made with several delicious options from a menu where you make you selections the night before. The eggs are fresh from their own chickens! The hosts Sarah and Ryan served us in a well-lit "Florida Room" with a view of the flower-garden. And we saw a hummingbird flitting among pink and lavender flowers! On the first floor, in addition to the breakfast room, there's a kitchenette with complimentary beer and soft drinks and snack bars, single-serve coffees, and tea bags with a hot and cold water dispenser, (and both milk and cream, thx!). There is a large comfortable sitting room, where we spent part of a pleasant evening with the friendly owners, swapping travel stories. And from there is an enclosed brick pathway to a rec room with a nice billiard table. To the left is the clean outdoor pool, or ahead is the open covered lighted porch with a ceiling fan, which has a step down to the pool. We took a few laps, then walked down and around to the patio with a fire-pit and a large jacuzzi. On an overcast September day, the pool was cool but not chilly, and the jacuzzi was warm with easy-to-adjust powerful jets. The chicken coop is hidden downhill a bit further, and there's no resident rooster so you might hear some cheerful clucking but no raucous crowing. It's just 1.5h by MBTA train from North Station in Boston to this tranquil hideaway. The hosts are charming and hard-working, always making improvements, always ready with friendly conversation. The price is of course a bit more than some local hotels, but not at all expensive, and our envious hotel-staying relatives all came by for a relaxing evening of wine on the porch.

The White Rose Bed and Breakfast - Amazing bathroom! (I had my pro camera gear with me so decided to take some nice shots)

It was immaculate, and perfectly cozy and welcoming. Pat (the host) sent flawless directions on how to get there and where to park, and greeted us when we arrived. She told us all about the unit and even offered a suggestion for dinner when we asked about local restaurants (the Yarde Tavern she recommended was superb). It was exceptionally cold outside the weekend we stayed, but we had no issues with heat inside the unit... we were nice and toasty warm the entire time. We loved the included coffee and had several cups during our stay. The notes about the area and even the local water were so helpful, and I felt completely comfortable drinking the tap water. Everything about our stay was perfect... it felt like a home away from home and had amazing little appointments (like extra blankets) that made it feel so wonderfully homey and comfortable. The unit itself is gorgeous and decorated with all the right little touches. The bathroom is AMAZING - I wish I had the same at home! My husband works while on the road, so having a solid internet connection was much appreciated! Often in hotels you have speed problems, but we had none. Outstanding! And having the extra space in the second bedroom where he could set up his laptop was a great bonus as well. As you can tell, we truly loved our experience staying here. I can't say enough good things about it. We love the area and will definitely stay at the White Rose BNB when we come back for another visit. HIGHLY recommended!! Ps. Have breakfast at Sylvester's and browse Thorns Marketplace in Northampton. Get a treat at The Pie Bar in Florence. Have dinner and a movie in South Hadley. Get dinner and donuts in Amherst. All a short drive away!!

It is only the cottage that is available for guests and the price is quite reasonable. Pat, the owner, has thought of everything practical and tied it all together in elegance. The cottage sleeps 2 - 6 people and is really a super large room with a loft but part of the great room is sectioned off by an armoir and curtain with a queen size bed enclosed. The floor to ceiling curtains give a bit of wimsy to the room that is tastefully decorated. Fisher speakers are part and parcel to the entertainment system. (I wasn't able to try them out but the next time we definately will) The leather couch and loveseat were perfect for sitting around and talking until 1am. The dining room table was roomy enough for dinner and glasses of wine. The galley style kitchen was well stocked with paper towels, sandwich bags, cutlery, pans, mugs, wine glasses, bowls, decent steak knives and coffee condiments among so many other things. The palate for the kitchen is a gorgeous red, black wrought iron and stainless steel. The bathroom was roomy and had so many towels! I love that! There was bar soap, and a simple shampoo. Also decorated quite nicely. The skylight brightened the room during the day and allowed for bug-free star gazing at night. The Loft had a king size bed that was uber comfortable, an excess of blankies, a lovely mirror and a table with chairs along with a wing back sitting chair. Lots of rubber coated hangers and an iron and ironing board were in the space as well. Another star-gazing skylight available. Did I mention there was a washer and dryer along with a hand-wash airdryiing set up? Fridge stocked with bottled water too and coffee in the freezer. Lovely and well-kept gardens and a breakfast to die for! Pat is quite accommodating and super nice. Tell her Joanne, Atom and Ron sent you!
