Love this place. Great chicken sandwich. My favorite BLTA. Super kind owners. My son loves the burgers.

The only way we learned about this place was from a Pacifica local me and some friends knew from surfing. We were in the mood for something different after getting out of the water and he told us of one of favorite places to get a little grub. This little greasy spoon was in a quiet little strip plaza, and quite honestly I would have had to become hopelessly lost if I were to have the remote chance of stumbling upon this place. One thing I really liked was the fact that they serve breakfast till 3 PM. I had the Hawaiian breakfast which was eggs, corned beef hash and sausage over rice. A very rich and hearty meal but after being in frigid water, dodging the close-outs and dealing with the biting winds something like this is a great way to warm up your tummy. Some friends of mine shared some hot wings which were fried and tossed in a vinegary Tabasco like sauce, pretty good. My friends had some pretty decent burgers, they came pretty well cooked, word of warning the double burger sizes are huge!!! Also their fries are pretty damn good too! Price wise it is a little more then I would normally spend for breakfast, but having breakfast for lunch it is OK, but if you think about it, considering the massive portions I guess it justifies the price. If you need a nice quiet place to unwind and catch up with some friends sitting a booth, it might be worth a stop. read more

Must be a breakfast only place because my dinner was thoroughly uninspired. I had out for a while and it was the evening, The City Grill looked like it might have some promise as a local diner. And that is what it turned out to be, Pacifica's mid to lower end diner. I settled in for a quick meal made up of a Chicken-Fried Steak plate and a Coke. Two items I consider should be square into the wheelhouse of any diner out there. The Chicken Fried Steak plate meal itself came with: * Lima Bean Soup * Dinner Salad * Bread and real butter patties * Chicken Fried Steak with rosemary gravy * Mashed Potatoes with rosemary gravy * Steamed Vegetables. Things they get right: + The Coke. + Clean tables. + Clean Utensils. + Timely delivery of the food. + Friendly service + Low sodium content for people who might be sensitive. ( There was more than one older person present eating that evening) + No blaring TV on the wall. + Lots of easy parking. + Steam Veggies done just right! + Good Dinner salad. + The plate price of $11.95 was good only because of the volume of food served. + The volume of food. You will not leave City Grill go away hungry! Things needing improvement: - Remodel the bathrooms and stop using the space as extra storage. - Knowledge of what's on the dinner menu. Asking me if the Chicken-Fried Steak plate plate is on the dinner menu is not encouraging when it posted hand-written on the welcome podium and also in the menu. - Come around more often to check if I am through with my plates. - Include some seasoning besides rosemary laden gravy. - Better quality/methods used to make the Chicken-Fried Steak. - Better quality/methods used to make the mashed potatoes. - Clean the bathrooms. - The canned Coke price of $2.00 is sort of out in expensive land. - Replace the plastic bill folio. It was dead last century and should not be considered plastic art or an antique! The meal got me through my Hunger even though I left half of the Chicken-Fried Steak itself on the plate. (See pics) That is both a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing is so much food came out that I am sure most anyone would leave well filled up. The bad thing is I left Chicken-Fried Steak on the plate. I would normally have devoured any Chicken-Fried Steak no matter how large the portion. Except for the steamed veggies the quality of this plate suffered all around for flavor and texture. The appearance was just average as well. The Rosemary Gravy simply drowned out every other flavorless thing on the plate. Even when I dug out bits to try without the gray I found them to be bland, bland, bland. Once again, good for the people who need bland in their diet. Boring as hell for the rest of us. The only thing I cannot fault is the volume of food that came out. If you are hungry and don't care about quality then this is a place to go! Since I was out and dirty I had a chance to visit the restroom before the meal. It is both a run down affair needing a remodel, and a storage closet. (See pics) I suddenly felt less of need to stay in here beyond washing my hands. In these points the restroom totally fits into the air of a lower-end diner you might find most any place. If you brings kids to City Diner I suggest checking out the condition of the restroom before they visit just to be sure it's safe. For the staff, clean this place up please! Overall I am not looking forward to any future visit! Maybe one more for breakfast to try out their Eggs Benedict. Even then only because another trusted Yelper gave City Grill good review. I come here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's our favorite place to get breakfast that's within1 minute driving distance. Cindy brings light with warm friendly service. City Grill - My Usual - American Near Me - Pacifica, California

I've been a few times recently and each time the food was fresh and delicious, the portions were generous, and the service was great. Their burger was very pleasantly surprising, as well as the chicken marsala. Great wine/mushroom/onion flavor, and came with steamed veggies, mashed potatoes/gravy, and a side salad - and everything was fresh and tasty, great deal. Everything was also smooth calling in the order and picking it up. I was offered hand sanitizer, there is lots of space inside to social distance, and the woman helping was on top of cleaning/sanitizing frequently. I will definitely be back. City Grill in Pacifica is a great local restaurant. We have been supporting local restaurants and business even before COVID. We particularly frequent City Grill in Park Mall in LindaMar. The food is it not only great, but the the prices are incredibly reasonable with the generous portions you get. We have had their burgers breakfasts, club sandwiches and BLTA's. I went to city grill for lunch. I saw Chad(server) there and he greeted me. He then said you may have a seat anywhere you'd like. I picked a seat and asked him what're your recommendations. He said to try the city grill burger. I ordered the double and he asked how'd I like the burger cooked. I got it well done. When my food arrived I was happy with how my food was presented and how it smelled. I didn't even have to ask for condiments Chad brought them out for me. The next time I go there I'd like to try out the dinner menu. Overall I had a great experience at city grill. Customer service is A+ I had a great chat with the young fella chad. read more

I've been coming here for years and have never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. My favorite is the Joe's scramble, I've had many of their dinner entrees as well. they give you more food than one person should actually eat however I seem to be part of the clean your plate club when I visit. It's a diner nestled in the back of Pacifica, perfect for quiet breakfast or dinner alone, or a place to bring friends for good food & good conversation. I hope their breakfast is good, because the dinner is not good at all. We have been there a few times just to make sure that it was not a one off thing. Won't be back. Kind of seems like they get pre-made items from Costco and just heat-n-serve. With that you would think the service would be good with all the time savings, but it isn't. Takes absolutely forever to get anything, mind you I am a casual diner, I like to take my time. But not that much time. The only good thing about this place is location. read more

I've been here numerous times and have never been late down with the food I've ordered. It represents classic diner food with a wider variaty of food options. Nothing I've had as been to greasy, overpriced, or overspiced something very common at most restaurants. Its location is secluded but theres plenty of parking. The several times I've been it has never been packed to the brim which is surprising based how good their food is. It actually a real wonder as to why they arent always packed. If you learn more with age, they've learned a lot. Great place for families, retired, friends out for a bite. And although simple decor, they often have hand made quilts that make a wonderful gift for anyone. Service is great. It's pretty quite. The food comes I reasonable portions as to not make you suffer from over eating. If you haven't been recently, go back. If you've never been, it's a high recommendation from me. read more

I've gone to City Grill with my grandma quite a few times. I know she frequents it more, so her suggestion to have a burger was credible. The bacon cheeseburger was in fact tasty. Surprisingly, it was one of the best I've had in awhile (other than homecooked delicousness). Some of the fries were still partially frozen, though- not a big deal. What was a big deal was how poor the service was. The waitress had the nerve to roll her eyes at my grandma when she requested extra mayo for her burger. The waitress didn't think I noticed, but I saw her. My grandma was not being pushy or demanding in the least. She was completely courteous when she asked. So I naturally took offense to this witch, who had a bad attitude from the get-go. Usually I would call someone out with such indecency, but I didn't want to embarrass my grandma; instead, I left a valuable tip. I wrote on the receipt: "I would appreciate it if you did not roll your eyes at my grandma when asking for extra mayo. Thank you." Moral of the story: You may have decent food at your establishment, but service is what boosts your ratings... oh, and maybe even your tips. read more

Let me prop this place up a bit. City Grill is tucked pretty deep into the valley, but don't let that stop you from going there. This place serves really AWESOME hamburgers and hot dogs (both with and without chili). I haven't had anything else here but I don't need to. If I'm jonesin' for a chiliburger, I go here. This is THE PLACE in Pacifica (and a few adjoining towns) for this kind of fare. They are also the only restaurant around that will serve RC Cola, which really goes nicely with your meal. I really like this place. My 6 year old son and I moved out here over a year ago and he goes to school nearby. We stop by once in a while and it is "our spot". He even calls it "our grill". I live down the street from the City Grill and my wife and I eat here 2 or 3 times a month. We usually get one of the specials for dinner. They make a very good New York steak. Their spaghetti is also tasty. My wife loves the seafood, especially the calamari steak. All dinners come with a basket of bread, a cup of the soup of the day and a nice salad. The prices are very reasonable. Breakfasts and lunches are an even better value and are also very tasty. I love the cheeseburgers and fries -- hard to beat! read more

Tried this place last night and had a decent burger, good fries and great onion rings - which alone pushed this from a 2 star to a 3 star rating, 'tis the season, I'm feeling generous - 2 burgers and a couple of sodas set us back $23 plus tip. Looks like it may be a better lunch stop than dinner destination. We ended up with the burgers because the dinner menu did out-price ($12-24) the clean, but truck-stopesque venue. Could be the dinner entrees are up to snuff, but if I'm going to drop $20 per plate, I want some ambiance. UPDATE: Hit this joint again, for breakfast this time, and they served us a decent meal at a good price, everything came out fresh and hot and the coffee was pretty good too. My mother and brother seem to like this place, but for me, a big no. I had the cajun catfish, which tasted like overly salted teriyaki catfish. The lettuce in the salad tasted stale and old. The split pea soup was okay. This place is a pretty long drive from the center of San Francisco to a dilapidated shopping center in Pacifica. My brother had the prime rib and Mom had the meat loaf. I can't believe I let over a year go by without trying this place. It looks like such a dive from outside. But let me tell you, this place is the awesome. It's nothing to look at. It's not fancy. But if you want good food... First of all, I've not seen a club sandwich this big in YEARS! This is how to make them. It was so big, you could hardly get it in your mouth. It was full of meat and was cut so perftectly, I thought you could cut something with the edges! The roast beef sandwich was huge and full of tasty roast beef. The burger was fantastic, cooked perfectly, fit the bun well, and the fries are the way fries should be, hot, crisp and thick. My biggest gripe about City Grill was that they bring out baked potatoes wrapped in tin foil. First of all, potatoes should not be cooked in foil, the oil only adds calories. Spuds in a 350 oven for an hour is perfection as far as cooked spuds go. But to present a baked potato in tin foil on a plate says that you are low class. And even if you are low class, take it up a notch! Take the freakin' foil off the potato before you present it to the table! Finally, I'll add that I was shocked to see how busy they were. Maybe because it was a Saturday, but there were 30 people I saw eating there, and I must have seen about that many entrees going out in to go orders. Good for you, City Grill! Hidden in the quiet valley of Pacifica is strip mall in dire need retail mainstay. The stores that anchor this "mall" is a grocery store and City Grill. My wife and I decided to venture in here for lunch yesterday after looking at some properties. I've read the other reviews about pricing but decided to check it out myself. I didn't think the lunch menu was overpriced at all. The burger I had was cooked to order and very generous in size. Tasted great. Price was decent too. Wasn't crazy about the potato salad, but I'm very picky when it comes to salads. I took a look at the dinner menu and agree that some of the pricing is a little on the high side. I don't think the decor or service warrants any dish over $20. Perhaps a change in the decor would justify the dinner prices. read more

We used to be very loyal to this place, back when it was located at the back of the valley in the corral location, and then when it was briefly on Pedro Point- this was a long time ago, when the nice lady named 'Chum' ran it. But the more recent version(s)- from being understaffed, forgetting parts of the order, and having been overcharged more than once- probably was a mistake both times but... to one time in 06 when I got very sick from the food (people say it was probably the salad dressing and not the steak)- well, I think we have given this place enough chances. Maybe if we didn't have memories of how it was before we wouldn't be as bummed out. I'm sure if you are just going for burgers or something that can't be 'cheaped out' on that badly as far as ingredients, like burgers or ham and eggs, it's probably fine (don't have the chicken piccata). read more

I had an excellent breakfast there last Sunday. It was wonderful that a couple from Pacifica suggested we meet there for breakfast since it was away from Rockaway Beach and the Fog Festival. The place is clean, bright, and the staff was the best. Very friendly atmosphere, and I could tell it was a place with many repeat customers. Portions were large and delicious. All 4 of us had ordered something different from the breakfast menu, and each of us were pleased with our meal. I'll be back next year for another breakfast during the 31st Fog Festival. read more

I can not say enough about how great this restaurant is. The service is outstanding and they are super nice (especially the wonderful lady working the front of house). Considering the prices, the food is delicious and they give large portions. They really take the time to assemble your sandwich/burger neatly and evenly (something that most places ignore- especially when giving take out). Pacifica's local diner. It's a no frills place where everyone knows your name. The parking is a breeze (private lot for the strip mall). The menu is decently extensive with breakfast and lunch and daily specials. My Hawaiian combo came with white rice, your choice of 2 pieces of toast, 3 eggs your way, corned beef hash (from the can) and linguisa (Portuguese sausage). It's a monster plate for somewhere around $8.50. My cousin's plate of strawberry pancakes was pretty huge too. Basically, this place has pretty big portions for a good value. read more

The New Life Christian Fellowship Church Men's group has their weekly breakfast meetings here every Saturday Morning right when it opens. Cindy always sets up our table and has our coffee and water ready every week. We have up to 12 guys every week and they do a great job keeping everything moving. Excellent service. The Rancher breakfast and the Eggs Benedict are fabulous. I have had lunch and dinner here in addition to breakfast every week. For dinner, I like the Fried Oysters, Fettuccine with crab, Breaded pork chops and it comes with soup, salad and bread/butter. For lunch, they have good sandwiches and burgers, milkshakes and floats. read more
