As the mother of the car purchaser, I am compelled to share our utterly dreadful experience with City Gear Dealership. This was my child's first foray into buying a car from a dealership, and the initial excitement and gratitude quickly turned into a web of manipulation and deceit.
To start, they enticed us with promises of financing through One Main Bank at a monthly payment of $500.00, assuring us that they would refinance the loan with Mocse Bank before the first payment was due, reducing it to $261.00 per month. Regrettably, this was nothing but a bold-faced lie. During the loan application, they pressured my child into falsifying numerous documents to secure approval from One Main Bank. They even tampered with the address on the bank statement and advised my child to claim they lived with me, paying no rent, despite the reality of almost $2,000.00 in monthly rent payments. They also asserted that I would be a co-signer, although the car is primarily registered in my name, with my child as a secondary, when it should have been the other way around. Adding to the ordeal, they ran our credit checks FOUR TIMES, causing significant harm to both of our credit scores.
Furthermore, they never provided a complete contract, and it took a full month for any registration documentation to materialize. When we inquired about the promised refinance, they abruptly disavowed making such commitments and directed us to Mocse Bank. To our dismay, Mocse Bank informed us that a refinance was unfeasible due to an inflated purchase price of $14,000.00. City Gear's claim of a secondary refinance with Valley First Credit Union was pure fiction, as Valley First had no record of such an application. Even if it had existed, Valley First clarified that the proposed payment of $530.00 was $30.00 MORE than the original One Main Bank agreement.
Adding insult to injury, City Gear Dealership refused to communicate directly with my child, insisting solely on dealing with my step-father, a man. Last year, we volunteered at this dealership during the holidays, and they expressed eagerness to "help" my child, recognizing the challenges of being a single mom juggling two jobs. However, this promise has devolved into a nightmare of deceit and deception.
To exacerbate matters, the owner, Sam, distanced himself from any responsibility, claiming that his daughter Nar, the financing manager, handled all financing matters. Nevertheless, when we sought his assistance, he instructed us to contact Valley First, leading us down a fruitless path. We have reported City Gear Dealership's fraudulent activities to One Main Bank and intend to escalate the matter to the State Attorney General, Better Business Bureau, DMV, and other pertinent authorities. This dealership deserves nothing less than thorough scrutiny for its deceptive and unethical practices. Exercise caution and steer clear!
In addition to our grievances, City Gear Dealership failed to disclose the trade-in value of my old vehicle until AFTER the contract for the new one was signed. This lack of transparency is wholly unacceptable and demonstrates a complete disregard for customer trust.
Moreover, their conduct on Google is deeply questionable. Following our initial complaint about the nightmarish experience, the dealership mysteriously altered its status on Google to "permanently closed," only to reappear later. This raises grave concerns about their willingness to manipulate information to evade accountability.
Lastly, it is worth highlighting that Nar, the financing manager, is studying law, yet she operates a dealership seemingly entangled in fraudulent activities. The irony is glaring and further underscores the deceitful nature of City Gear Dealership.
In conclusion, City Gear Dealership's practices are steeped in deception, unethical behavior, and profound concern. I implore anyone contemplating business with them to exercise utmost caution and explore reputable alternatives. This dealership must be held accountable for its actions, and potential customers must be forewarned about the risks associated with engaging them. read more
