Our entire group loved the tour and locations
Angelica S.

Our group came out from San Diego during the St. Patrick's Day weekend. Bill was ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!! His knowledge and enthusiasm about the local breweries, his dedication to the people behind the breweries and his love of Boston was beautiful and refreshing. Bill could answer all of our questions, get us through town avoiding the St. Paddy's traffic and provide history of the area. THE BEST CITY BREW TOUR I HAVE EVER TAKEN!!! Thank you Bill for a wonderful experience! We will return to visit Boston and hopefully get a chance to see Bill again

Steve (who is also a local teacher) was a great guide, and the tour was a good mix of beer & beer history. Our tour took us to 3 smaller breweries just north of Boston. Highly recommend!

Big thanks to Adrian for our New Year's Eve tour! In addition to having a great sense of humor, Adrian was accommodating of everyone in our group. We live locally and loved touring some of the best local breweries!

Went on City Brew Tour in Boston yesterday as part of a group outing and had a great time. Andy, our tour guide was very knowledgable and friendly. He was also great at fielding any questions we had regarding the tour. The three breweries we stopped at: Night Shift, Bone Up Brewing, Democracy Brewing were all different but fun places to try beer at. Overall I had a great time and would recommend it to others.

Down the Road was funktastic

Chase Gerold- legendary. Had such a good time, learned so much, and tasted so good. I've never felt more productive drinking and learning at some of Boston's coolest breweries. Consider Boston traffic into the mix as far as the timing of your tour. It wasn't too bad and Chase reacted quickly with dinner reservations and passed the time with some interesting history/processes. We'll be back! They partner with some of the best breweries and offer you a growing discount.

This tour popped up in google searching for something to do while in Boston for the weekend and I'm so glad it did. To be honest, I'm not much of a beer drinker but the person I was traveling with loves it so I went along for the ride. We did the five hour original tour and our tour guide Mark was incredible. He made for a fun, inviting atmosphere and was an absolute wealth of beer history and information. We went to Samuel Adams, a large brewery and received a formal tour and tasting in a large group which was great. From there we went to Chelsea Station for a delicious lunch and beer pairing. Our next stop was Slumbrew, a small brewery with a fascinating history. Our final stop was Down the Road Brewery, a place with a great atmosphere and fun experimental flavors! This was a fantastic way to spend a day and I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone, even if you aren't a big beer drinker.

I got 5 oz pours of all of their IPA's and was in heaven. The Really Big Bird and Galaxy Cutting Ties were amongst my favorites. I wanted to try multiple stouts but unfortunately most of their pastry stouts were not on tap. They were only in 18.5-ounce bottles so I could only order one. I got the Macaroon Macaroon, which was a collab with Veil Brewing in Richmond VA (another phenomenal brewery that I have been to). It was dessert in a glass. I had the lady friend with me, or I would have opened and closed this place that or passed out in the corner. I was in heaven. She ordered some spinach and artichoke dip but I don't remember it. It was filler as far as I was concerned. This place isn't about the food; it's about their amazing beer.

We walked in and there was no hostess. The bartenders stood around and did not greet us. We had to go ask for service so that we can be seated (why?) and then once we were seated, it took a while for a server to take our order. Once we got our order, we never got our waters refilled and only were checked on to see if we'd want more alcohol. The menu was alright, though a bit basic. Food tasted fine. Presentation was basic and the little cup of fries seems stingy and unnecessary when there's already a tray. The alcohol was fine. I was pleased they had cocktails in a can (they have a distillery with a wide variety of spirits). No ciders though. The beer selection was good although the menu on the wall was not updated. It would've been good if we could just order from the wall but apparently the drafts and to-go menus are not updated. Overall very subpar service and unwelcoming pretentious vibes. Would not return.

On our bartender's suggestion, we ordered the Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza and it absolutely delivered. The crust was perfectly balanced -- crisp and firm on the outside while remaining soft and airy in the center, exactly how great pizza should be served. The sauce had excellent flavor, and the combination of pepperoni and hot honey created the perfect balance of savory, sweet, and heat without overpowering the pie itself. My wife sampled a flight of four locally available beers and really enjoyed the opportunity to try selections that are difficult to find outside the Boston area. I jokingly told her not to become too attached to them since we wouldn't be bringing them home with us. The atmosphere inside the Tap Room was lively, modern, and unmistakably Boston, with plenty of Samuel Adams history woven throughout the space without feeling overly commercialized. We had a fantastic experience here and would absolutely recommend stopping by if you find yourself in the greater Boston

We ordered the Turkey Sandwich and Reuben. There are way better places to stop for drinks and food.

The Cambridge location is busy around the time we went, which was around noon on a Saturday. There is lots of seating in the front but also in the back which is a little more quiet. The setup is a little confusing for ordering though. There's one big line for food and coffee, but you don't need to wait in that line to order beers. I wish we knew that because we didn't see any signage to indicate where to order what. We also saw a lot of people sitting at the bar eating and drinking coffee, so it took a little bit to find a spot at the bar just to have a drink. I think the bar should be reserved for those looking to have a beer. A positive though is that the beer tasty-- light and refreshing. I thought some of the flavors were really creative. For example, I tried the Chrysalis which I believe had notes of jasmine and honey. Overall would definitely come here again and try their food and coffee next time!

However, I was happy to find that there was a cafe in the back corner that opens in the mornings. So on the way to work, I tried out their cute cafe and got a pumpkin-spiced latte with almond milk. Overall, the coffee was decent and wasn't bitter or burnt (which was impressive since when I visited, the cafe was very new with little experience). This definitely earns them points in my book. I will say that they lose points (in my books) just based on my personal preferences. First off, being a brewery, expect there to be a STRONG smell of beer. Even though I wasn't in there for long, I could still find myself getting a headache and not enjoying the strong smell. I'll also say that the service I received the morning I went wasn't the best, and the man who made my drink definitely did not want to be there. As I've mentioned in other reviews I've done, I rate places HEAVILY based on service and kindness. Overall, the coffee was decent, but there are better places to go on Waltham that I would rather go to instead.
