This is solidly mediocre food and ok barbecue. Today the bread bun was stale, the meat dry, the Mac n cheese bland, and the cornbread seemed doughy. The cornbread was the highlight of this meal, it was piping hot. The barbecue sauces here are jiggley and not my style. They don't have a Carolina sauce. My pulled pork apparently was cooked in vinegar but you wouldn't know it. It was bland and dry. There was visual evidence of a vinegar variety just not the flavors one would expect. The regular bbq is basic, the spicy is spicy basic, and I didn't bother with the sweet bbq today. The sauces seem like they actually have gelatin in them but not a lot. The consistency is solid yet still slightly liquid. Maybe it's COVID conditions and that's why I am unimpressed. read more

We had 1lb of Brisket. it was dry, no flavor. There was no extra juice poured on top of the brisket. The original bbq sauce did not have the usual kick. It was also bland. My husband and I ordered ribs on several different occasions at approximately 4:30 pm. The food hasn't been very good the past several times, but it's convenient and it's been a place that we have frequented for years. We wanted to give it another chance. He tried two ribs (all bone, no meat on them, and tough). I tried one. Same thing. This was supposed to be our dinner. We threw the rest of the rack in the trash. They were completely inedible. It is an excellent choice if you can't decide what meat to get. There is plenty there for two people, with leftovers. They offer catering for weddings, holiday parties, work functions and more. Staff went above and beyond for me. I had a half rack, Mac and cheese, and peach cobbler. For later, don't judge me!!!! Sauces were stocked and the dining room was clean despite the crowd. They were out of cobbler so they brought some fresh out of the oven before we left, along with fresh corn pudding (don't judge!). The food was great and they handled the massive line fairly quickly and still remained pleasant. I am no expert in BBQ, but this place definitely served some delicious food! Reasonable price as well. There are heaps of BBQ sauce choices but the original sauce seemed to be the best. We've ordered from City BBQ for years and, for the most part, the food has been outstanding. Every once in a while, the brisket or pork has been a little dried out but considering the number of times we've had great experiences, the 5-star review stands. Items we've liked a lot include the pulled pork, beef brisket, green beans, cornbread and BBQ chicken. Less popular with us has been the coleslaw, mac and cheese (a definite "no" for the kids), and collard greens. They always give us enough of that awesome sauce to cover our leftovers for sure. I've been told by my family told the buns provided are always fresh too. We recently ordered City BBQ as part of a support your team kind of school fundraiser and it made planning for dinner a lot easier. I wish it was a little less expensive but I don't mind paying a little more for high-quality, consistent food; which is what we've gotten every time we've gone to City BBQ. Some things are definitely dependent on palate and food sensitivities as far as ratings go. In our book, it's a 5/5 and that's recommendation-worthy. read more

The bbq here is consistently good and very well priced. I live for the brisket and would honestly prefer more brisket over some of the sides! The cornbread is great but I say pass on banana puddin if you've ever lived in the south as it's disappointing comparatively. Green beans are pretty good and my husband loves the baked beans. This location has Issues with consistency. This is third out of 5 times when I've ordered a take home tub of brisket and received substandard product. Out of one pound of brisket, there was more than 8 ounces of fatty gristle, burnt crusty pieces, and dime-sized greasy bits that were left over and scraped from the cutting board. People have had great food from there, but I have had numerous experiences where they are serving scraps and charging a premium price. I think I'm finished with City BBQ because the last two times they were reluctant to issue a refund and actually asked me that if it was so bad, why did I eat half of it. read more

They suck with managing orders. Their new set up is easy for grab and go orders. How can food that's already cooked take 40 minutes to put in a container? No concept of FIFO. They just make whatever whenever and throw it in a bag. Food is not warm by the time you get home. $20 for two meats and bread is absurd. Then you have to wait 2 hours to eat. I'm sure they couldn't have an order ready if you placed it two days ahead of time. I'm sure Christmas and thanksgiving is a show. I'll be going up Dickeys or supporting small businesses. read more

Convenient location with plenty of parking in the behind the location. There are not too many restaurants in the area that offer barbeque. So, one does not have too many options. The food ... is okay. I have gone with the 1/2 pound sandwiches, but went with the platter option. I've tried both the pulled pork and the beef brisket. I have had to eat the sandwiches with a fork because they don't stay together well and are messy. Their baked beans have been a favorite side item of mine. They have not had green beans like their online menu suggests as available. The service has been underwhelming. You step up to one counter to place your order. Slide over to the next counter to pick it up. Nothing wrong with the business model, but the staff are less than communicative and more into fellow staff members than their customers. If their staff do not want to be here, why would a customer? The eating area is usually clean. read more

Staff is friendly and smiling every time they take your order. The food is awesome!! Always hot whether you pre order your food for delivery of waiting to eat dine in. The restaurant is very clean and spacious. I see a lot of families here so it's good to bring the kiddies too. Just a warm, casual place to eat and enjoy. TV watching while you sit and eat is available as well as a nice outdoor and spacious patio out back. Plenty of parking in the rear. Might I add that the side dishes are YUMMY!! Stopped at 8:20 tonight (Sunday)...they close at 9pm but you wouldn't know it as they were more interested in their closing routine than cleaning the eating area. It was filthy and walking the floor, I think I found what looked to be one clean table. The person waiting on me appeared to be the manager on duty. She had no customer service skills. The greeting was not friendly, there was no thank you either after paying or getting my food...just an angry stare. Apparently I was a burden coming in a half hour before closing. Looking for a place to eat after a day at the Columbus Zoo. Drove by City Barbecue and decided to check it out and so glad we did! Ordered the sampler with chicken, pork, brisket, ribs, cornbread and got Mac n cheese as our sides. It was so good! Everything was delicious! All and all a very good fast meal, that doesn't feel like fast food. I had the pulled pork sandwich with the sweet sauce, it's was very good. I also had the corn pudding and their cole slaw which I love and both are always consistent in taste and great. The Hubs has the brisket and he said it was quite tasty. We had a great experience here. Came for lunch and there was no line. The lady at the cashier offered to walk us through the menu and encouraged us to try samples of anything we wanted. I ended up ordering a half slab of ribs and Mac n cheese. The ribs were super tender and the order came out right away. There are tons of different BBQs to choose from--all which are delicious. I'm a Southern boy, weaned on BBQ and a low carb/half carnivore for years now. City BBQ is 100% bona fide and serving up some excellent food. In general the restaurant scene on our recent trip to Columbus was outstanding and our lunch visit to this City BBQ location by the Zoo was a highlight. I must say we were a bit confused by the menu options...which are a bit confusing...but with a helpful counter person we found our way to a combo plate of essentially all the meats in a portion to feed 2 with 2 sides. It was "rib day" or something and so we got a few rib bones to try those. Perfect. All the meats were excellent and was very happy to get a genuine hot sausage link. I thought the ribs were perfect and were fall off the bone and well barked. We like our BBQ w/out sauce or a bit on the side and their "Hot" BBQ sauce added a nice kick. We got green beans and fresh cucumber/pepper/onion salad. Both of those were really good and surprised at how good the green beans were - very tasty. They have a ton of drink options. I live in South Carolina with a lot of good BBQ around but have to tell you Columbus, you're doing just fine in this department as well and particularly as a counter/essentially fast food option, City Barbeque is an excellent choice that I wish we had in my area. I have ordered so many times from this location...normally very good....tonight...it sucked...ordered pork bbq (1 lb) with extra sauce...no extra sauce....they assured me it would be there......also ordered green beans...75 % bacon pieces, not much green bean....and so salty we couldn't eat it...I would pass this on using their website, but you can't find where to leave feedback after their website upgrade...it says to leave it based upon the location # on the receipt...only....no location # on the receipt....I would rather have given the feedback directly, but I guess they might have decided they didn't need that feedback....too bad....one of my favorite places for cayyout... read more

Many times while judging local BBQ competitions my fellow judges and I have discussed City Barbeque and have all come to the conclusion that the only people who enjoy eating here are people who know absolutely nothing about BBQ. This chain has the worst ribs I've ever tasted, extremely salty and overdone. They call it St. Louis Style....I've been to St. Louis and had ribs there and they weren't awful like these. Their sauce comes from a giant jug which they pour into little cups...it's not made by a pitmaster like at a real BBQ joint. The sides here are also all industrial...cooked in large batches and reheated at the restaurant. The sad fact is I've never, ever smelled a smoker inside the restaurant or outside the restaurant. Drive by some of the better, authentic BBQ joints in Columbus and you can smell their smokers a mile away...now that's real BBQ. I'm assuming that a "pitmaster" and I use that term loosely...probably some minimum wage worker....cooks these ribs, briskets, chicken and pork at some big factory and then they ship them to the restaurants to reheat. If you want real BBQ try Hoggy's, try Ray Ray's Hog Pit, heck, try the Liberty Tavern on Saturdays--you'll defintely smell their ribs cooking outside. If you want the McDonalds of BBQ and you aren't a BBQ snob like me then eat here, you'll probably enjoy it. read more

Ok, you have won me over City Barbeque. I will allot another star for some foodie satisfaction. I have been back two times since my previous horrendous visits, and the food quality has been fresher, the staff is still... meh, but they're working on it and overall the experience was pleasant. Both of our recent experiences took place on Saturday evenings, so perhaps that is the key time to be there. The meats both times have been really good and not dry like previous visits. The sandwiches were sloppy and had to be eaten by fork, because it was too much for one bun to handle. I recommend couples share a platter, which usually includes multiple items and a couple sides. City BBQ does well to fill ones belly. I also discovered a new favorite... their Texas Sausage. Put some slaw on that and YUM! While I imagine.... no... I know it's probably not the best BBQ in Ohio... it's still good for fixing a nagging hankering for all things meaty and BBQ-ey without the long distance travel. Keep it up, City BBQ! read more

Curb side pickup is often long delayed....15-30 minutes if you come during peak hours and order on the app - plan on waiting much longer in the parking lot.
